Mitre to the DL, Logan recalled, Aceves throws
ByVia Ben Shpigel, Sergio Mitre has been placed on the disabled list with an oblique injury apparently suffered during batting practice. Boone Logan has been recalled from Triple-A Scranton to take his spot. Mitre hasn’t pitched in 11 days, and he was probably just getting some hacks in before the Yanks head out for the road leg of their interleague schedule next week. The Phillies have a lefty heavy lineup, so chances are Logan will get some action during this series. Sigh.
In better injury news, Alfredo Aceves, battling back injuries, threw 30 pitches this afternoon. Marc Carig says the Yanks’ look took the pitches from “flat ground at about 70 percent intensity, and Aceves said he “feels normal.” There is still no timetable for Aceves’ return.

say it ain’t so
Ugh.
Mitre’s arm went into atrophy.
Agreed. What’s he sitting out there for? Couldn’t we use his roster spot, for somebody Girardi would, like, put into a game?
Can’t demote him without exposing him to waivers, though. That’s the rub.
What the $$***$
I dread the fact that the Phils are coming in ice cold, never ever a good thing. All they need is one Boone Logan inning to dust themselves up.
Is it too much to ask for a couple of CGs this series. CC just needs to get color blind and think the Phils are wearing Oriole orange. Lets go …

I know you’re saying they’re “due” but I’d much rather them come in ice cold than on a 20 in 25 stretch or something.
True.

I dread nothing. We’re gonna kill ‘em. And then, we’re going tubing.
Lol.
I fear for dr mrs the yankee’s sanity after this news (the Logan part).
Who can blame her? Horrible. Is he at least out of options so we have to cut him next time we don’t want him in the majors (which I can’t imagine will take very long.)
No, you only use one option a year. It’s a shame too.
Boone doesn’t come back until Season 6. The Yankees are screwing up the story.
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALT!!!!!!!
Spoiled…
Maybe if we just move Yankee Stadium so Boone can’t find it…
Nooooooooo!!!
/sobs uncontrollably
We’re going to win…but Logan seriously?
I can see it already sometime this week: “Logan deals to Utley. The pitch, swung on and hidden deep to right field, it is high, it is far, it is gone!” That or him walking both Utley and Howard. Cue vomit.
I can see it too.
That homer that Logan gives up to Utley to change an 11-2 victory into an 11-4 victory is going to be really annoying.
bingo
Yeah. That’s going to piss me off. It’s going to make the Phillies look like they have life.
There’s a word for that. It’s called “KrukBaiting”.
A 10 gallon trough of pulled pork simmering in barbeque sauce is also known as “KrukBaiting”, by the way.

That sounds more like “Everyone*Baiting”
*Everyone who’s not a vegetarian.
The main difference being, everyone who’s not Kruk would share that trough of pulled pork with others, and they’d use a napkin.
Ah, OK. Civilized. ICWUDT.
not to be confused with kruk ‘bating which is most likely eerily similar
Well played.
It’s funny cause hes fat!
Let’s only hope.
I do not hope… I DO!!!!!!

Holy crap- Logan’s numbers against lefties are pitiful. What does Albaladejo have to do to get a callup? He is still better than Clippard.
Albaladejo is worth more than 2.0 WAR?
Well I’ll be damned, call him up!
In my best Nancy Kerrigan voice:
WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY?????
He has only walked 2 in 13 innings since being demoted, maybe he’s straightened himse……….AWWWW, who am I kidding?
The Yankees basically just told Albie that he needs to get every better he faces in AAA out or else he will never be recalled.
Boone Logan is the definition of “I’m left handed, so I am not yet looking for another career”.
See also: Jamie Moyer, who probably would have pitched in a game where the Yankee Dandy was in attendance if interleague play would have existed in the 1980s.

Come on, would rather see Alby, hopefully after the Phillies series Boone is gone, but that won’t be true.
Whats the point of even calling him up, he comes in, walks all the lefties and then Girardi takes him out to replace him with someone else. We are better off letting Mitre pitch with his injury…
/kidding but not really
At least Park and Robertson are throwing the ball better, there recent numbers (D-ROB 2ER, 11K in last 11.2 IP) (Park 1ER, 11K in last 7 IP) take bit of the sting away from Boone Logan being back up
For me, the only real sting in Boone coming up is that there’s guys I’d rather see (Melancon, Albaladejo) and it seems obvious that he sucks so what does Girardi/whoever see in him? I don’t think it’s going to affect the team all that much.
Welcome back, Boone! I, for one, am glad to have you back.
So is this move retroactive and he could come back in 5 days? Or does it not matter and it will be weeks…
Injured taking BP? Can we stop the nonsense of pitchers batting, running bases, etc.? It is not 1870.
