The Blue Jays didn’t win last night’s game as much as the Yankees lost it. Not only did they not hit with men on base, they didn’t even bother to put together good at-bats. A sixth inning error on a Little League caliber rundown resulted in the two runs that ended up being the margin of victory. But then there’s this little factoid: Toronto is 8-1 in the first game of a series this season (they blew a seven-run lead in the one loss), but they’re just 5-12 in all other games. Hopefully that trend continues today. Here’s the starting lineup…

Yea, used to be if the Yankees weren’t playing on FOX and weren’t playing at 7 PM or later (which they never do for a home game, of course), I wouldn’t see it even with Extra Innings.
So I was quite happy when that was changed.

It has to do with the Mets being on FOX at 1pm and the Yankees not wanting to play at 7pm on a Saturday.

The way I see it, Burnett got burned on the misplay, but was lucky on the pitch he threw to Bautista. In other words, it should be 1-0.

Based on what just happened with Rajai Davis in center, I think the sun was in Granderson’s face, and he got a bad read on the ball.

Anyone else mildly surprised that Cervelli is not in today’s lineup? He was just called up yesterday, today is a day game after a night game for Martin, and Girardi did say he wanted to get Cervelli in a game right away. This seemed like a logical game. They are going to have to develop a schedule to rest Martin if they don’t want him to break down.

Pitch F/X had all those outside pitches to Teix in the right-hander’s batting box. Is it on the fritz or is the ump drunk?

The ump is probably having some trouble picking up the ball with the light/shade transition, but no, those pitches are definitely in the other batters box. It’s awful.
It was really bad. And supporting your hypothesis, I thought that he really did seem to stop with the outrageous calls once the shadows were gone — although I didn’t connect the two until I read your post.
The umpire definitely has a wide stoke zone.
