Dickerson leaves game after getting hit in the head by pitch
ByChris Dickerson left tonight’s game after being hit in the head by a Mike Gonzalez fastball in the 15th inning. Bryan Hoch says he’s on his way to the hospital for a CT scan, and we’re all hoping for the best. Dickerson was down on the ground for a few minutes, but ultimately walked off the field under his own power, so hopefully that’s a good sign. Scary scary scary.

Girardi just said that you have to assume he’s probably got a concussion. Sounds like he showed signs that he did.
It’s VERY important to take a better safe than sorry approach. Concussions aren’t obvious, but if they aren’t allowed to heal, with proper rest/treatment, they can become chronic and devastate performance and careers.
If we have to 7-day DL him, it becomes an unfortunate roster pinch since Golson and Parraz are both on the minor league DL. And Ramiro’s not eligible to come back yet either, I think (which we could have theoretically done and moved Nuñez to 5th outfielder.)
Kevin Russo? Justin Maxwell? And DFA Molina for one of them? Or 60-day Hughes, retroactive to April 15th?
Pena can come back up if he’s replacing an injured player, though I would just go with the natural outfielder in Maxwell.
Ah, that’s right, thanks.
My money’s on Peña, then. No 40-man move needed.
Just gonna put this out there, Brandon Laird played OF in the Winter didn’t he?
Laird’s 2011 line is still only .221/.254/.305, though. Probably not the best time.
Thats true, although he has been hot lately. Pena is a much better option. I don’t think Maxwell and obviously not Mesa will make it because of the OF depth in both levels.
Guess you figure Maxwell has already gotten the call to pack his bags.
And CC should throw one in Markakis’s back tomorrow to show that we ain’t just gonna sit back and let them take out one of ours.
Because after letting the go-ahead runs to score, Gonzalez intended to put another guy on base.
The target was low and away. He clearly released the ball too soon and that’s why it was where it was.
The Yankees still owe the Orioles a hit batter for Russell Martin HBP.
Fine.
But there’s no reason to retaliate for what happened tonight.
If he does, he better do it in the later innings…guaranteed if the Yanks hit anyone tomorrow the pitcher gets tossed.
Maxwell callup?
All this is girardi’s fault
Nice that we have 3 OFers in AAA better defensively than Swish (and another in AA). The way Swish has been hitting (and certainly with risp) they can’t be much worse at the plate.
I just know Showalter was behind that pitch…
getting hit in the head can ruin a players career and this is the second this month. the yankees pay their players to much to allow this to happen, pitchers need to start hitting back and showing the other team it will not be tolerated.
