Posada told Yankees he wanted out
ByVia Bill Madden, Jorge Posada told Brian Cashman that he not only wanted out of Saturday night’s lineup after being demoted to ninth in the lineup, he also wanted out of the Yankees as well. “It was just something said in the heat of anger and frustration,” said one of Madden’s sources. “He didn’t want out, and doesn’t want out. He was just frustrated and said a lot of things.” Posada apologized and this is all in the past now, but sheesh, Jorge was pissed, eh?

Jesus man.
What if Girardi laughed at him and said ok?
http://gifsoup.com/MTUxODY5
dont play him for a week and he will start crying again
Why on earth would anyone in the Yankee organization tell this to Bill Madden?
Seriously, what would the purpose be?
These “sources” need to be found and given a stern talking.
My guess is it’s Randy Levine.
I’ll bet it was Cashman. He seems to have some loose lips these days.
The only thing that makes sense is that they are trying to make Posada look bad. These guys talk to the media way too much… I’m starting to dislike the way the FO handles their business.
I almost see it as refreshing. These selfish millionaire players need to get called out on their bullshit once in a while.
Ah he was just upset and said what all married men have said after a long marriage
well i think his real marriage might make this one better
not if he loses the rest of the 13M.
People say stupid things when they’re pissed. See: Last nights game thread
Check tonight’s game thread, too.
To bad the Yankees didn’t grant him his wish
let him go. geeesh
Union would have a fit. Unlikely to happen. Otherwise the yanks might end up paying a couple million a year as a settlement for 20 years à la Bonilla and the Mets
Why would that happen? The Mets CHOSE that path with Bonilla to save money then. Releasing Posada would just entail eating the salary.
wow just wow.
my respect for him is dwindling fast. i tried to tell myself that this was all okay, but i’m finding it harder.
first of all, jorge has to realize that he’s hitting .165. Also, he has to realize that lineup spot is an entirely overrated concept that doesn’t matter that much.
He basically just needs to come to reality. i’m sick of this diva behavior
All this Posada stuff is good for the team. It takes all the attention away from how bad ARod and Tex are performing.
He’s a whiny little baby and should have been DFA’d yesterday. He’s become a cancer in the locker room and as you can see, the team is struggling as a result.
The team is not struggling just because of Jorge.
You know jorgie, Montero, according to reports is ‘bored’ in AAA. How about we bench you and get youthful enjoyment from your replacement. For $13 million a year, my team wanted me to clean toilets or sell beer in the stands, I’d do it in a heartbeat with no ifs, ands or buts about it
he’s actually “bored in Scranton”… which I totally get
Even Michael Scott and Deangelo Vickers got outta there
God do I get it. In-laws live there and I’m bored of that area after a couple hours.
(And not because of my in-laws. They’re great. But going to the Scranton WB area is like stepping in a time machine and hitting 30 years ago when you meant to hit 300 years ago.)
Major ego
Catchers who, last year, Po had a better fWAR than and are still catching (300 AB):
Wieters
Martin
Montero, M
Pierzynski
Suzuki
Hundley
Barajas
Paulino
Cervelli
Snyder
Rodriquez
Avila
Doumit
To say nothing about the Salty/Tek clusterfuck in Boston.
Giveemhell, Po. It’s probably personal that Girardi has convinced others that Cervelli is that much better.
Last year. Ridiculous. You deserve better.
+1,000
On the flip side, it shows how bad most catchers are in MLB right now.
Thank you Big 3.
It’s not a matter of being an overpaid diva or any of the other disrespectful nonsense people are saying on here. It’s about a team treating an outstanding career athlete with respect. Sure his batting average is down and he is struggling to find his zone. Lets not forget he has switched positions.
Why is it that it is okay to disrespect Jorge by dropping him in the line up but we leave Jeter in the lead off since day one and he wasn’t hitting shit! Still isn’t all that great.
Don’t get me wrong… I like Jeter and respect all his accomplishments. But fair is fair. Jorge won those World Championships too. Let’s not forget all the accomplishments that Jorge has too.
This team, under the way it is constructed, won’t make the playoffs. Why is Cashman afraid to send up players from SWB. Andruw Jones is a bust, Ayala ain’t cutting it, also, Soriano needs to go. This team is old, unenergetic and doesn’t have any fire. Start looking internally for players Cashman, before you ship em away for a big name old timer.
And just how would Soriano go away?
That latin temper. And what is going to be worse is the media is not letting this go. Buster Olney has a perpetual hard-on to write about this case.
#Machismo
The story gets worse by the hour.Time for Jorge to ride off into the sunset.
The front office is doing their best to make Posada look bad… Seriously.. Two days after it happened and now this gets out…
Fire Kevin long
Someone (me) is starting to think Kevin Long put his mouth on your mom.
Fire the guy who fixed the best player on the team? You’re high.
Offer Posada the LH pinch hitter role as previously discussed. Call up Jorge Vasquez from Scranton to DH. Don’t put the pressure on Montero replace Posada yet.
Move Gardner to leadoff, swisher bats second Cano third, A-Rod, Tex, Granderson, Vasquez, martin and jeter. Jetes is killing us with no bat discipline and one acceptable game a week. Start treating these guys as employees, which they are and tell them what to do, egos be damned.
Swisher second and Jeter ninth ? Appears to me that your boy Swisher is doing a lot worse than Jeter, or practically anyone else for that matter. Maybe your boy Swisher needs to bat ninth or ride the bench for a while.
We’ve all loved and respected Jorge, and the Yankee organization took it upon itself to pay him well and in pinstripes as long as possible. That’s why I’m puzzled why he decided to vent his frustration outward, no less on a national broadcast night.
The dwindling of a star is always painful, but a good part of this mess is self-inflicted by Jorge. His performance and attitude have both hurt the team. Sure, leaking this info adds to the hubbub, but it doesn’t excuse his actions.
Posada won’t last the year.
I assume by now someone has done this hypothetical, but can we look at the flipside? If Jorgie isn’t pissed about hitting .165 and isn’t pissed about going from a borderline HoF career to hitting 9th, he’d be accused of apathy and check cashing and probably worse. Passion / pride / self-confidence goes both ways, its not always a positive.

Hitting .561? I’m up for that.
Well played.
Amen.
The Amen is to Mr. Delaware’s first comment not Ultimate 913′s comment.
Him and his buddy Jeter should just retire. They can’t do much to contribute to the team right now.
You and everyone else shitting on guys who gave us an awesome decade and a half and who will shit on Mariano if he has a bad 2 weeks and doesn’t want to relinquish his closer role, just move to Philadelphia. There you can boo the fuck out of great players who you’re done with or you’re mad at for a few hours or whatever. Its a badge of honor there; Yankees fans are better than that sort of thing.
If it was a bad slump i wouldn’t complain. It’s beyond just a bad slump, it’s aging. Get used to it. Jeter is here taking up money and year for other 3 years. If you honestly think he’ll suddenly find it again, well good for you, but reality is what you see now is what you get. Whats best for the team is for these players to realize they no longer are who they used to be and side step their ego and bow down gracefully.
Your beef is with Cashman and the front office for signing them, not Jeter and Posada for not “retiring gracefully” or whatever you want to call it.
Exactly Mr. Delaware.
Too bad Cash didn’t have retirement form handy for Posada to fill out.
Do you assume he didn’t simply because Cashman didn’t mention that in his mid-game gossip session with the press?
(Not that that would be a bad way to draw a conclusion.)
Jorge bitched out of the lineup during a pretty gd important series vs Boston. I guess he should get a pass?
Well, I would say this is as much our (the fans’) fault as anyone’s. If we were more of a Yankee fan than an idividual player’s fan, this never would have happened.
No company would ever tolerate an employee with an attitude, especially someone who’s well-paid, so why would should the Yankees? I can’t believe people were actually backing up Posada yesterday. Those people should lose their Yankee jersey and buy a “Team Posada” or “Team Jeter” uniform, cause they sure as hell are not Yankee fans.
You or I may not be able to play baseball like these players can, but I know there are loads of talented players out there who can. Time to let these all-ego, no-skill players realize that.
I’m watching the Mets with a line-up of players that nobody wants (except Beltran and Reyes) who are up 1-0 on Josh Johnson. They may not be good but they play hard every game. Our Yankees look totally lost. AJ with his big league stuff and little league brain is the leader of the pack tonight.
Ehhh … the Mets have been playing well as of late. 1-0 lead? I’m gonna go watch that now.
What the fancy fuck does this even mean? 1 run in 5 innings against Johnson versus 5 runs in 5 fucking innings against Price? My dear god, what is happening? Do the smart people leave in these situations? Does the fact that I’m still responding reflect poorly on me?
Now it’s 1-1. Some guy named Stanton evened it up with one swing. I think they drafted him. That’s OK we have Soriano instead of a draft pick.
Clearly Cashman’s fault.
Buster Olney reports that in the shower Posada told his soap they were not on the same page anymore. Buster will now tweet this for 10 more hours or so until he comes up with something new.
Per YES Network Randy Levine has signed John Flash Flaherty to be the Yankees DH because he has Heart.
Can someone give me a rational reason why Jesus Montero shouldn’t be DHing right now?
Posada is a 39-year-old part time DH that sits against lefties and flails against righties.
cause posada might throw a fit again
Only about 13 million reasons.
Jesus! Jesus! Jesus! Jesus! Jesus! Jesus! Jesus! Jesus!
You people call yourselves fans? Yankees fans? Real fans don’t talk like this about their Team… Yes, I said Team. Talk shit about one or two and you are talking shit about them all. When their slump is over and they are back on top you will all be singing a different tune. You don’t deserve to call yourselves Yankees fans.
