Game 79: CC for the sweep
ByThe Yankees have yet to win five games in a row this season, which is pretty remarkable when you consider their overall record (AL best 47-31, +110 run differential). They’ve got several things going for them today after winning the last four, starting with CC Sabathia on the mound. The Yankees are also 22-4 (!!!) in day games, so that’s another thing they have going for them. There’s no Alex Rodriguez or Curtis Granderson in the lineup though, those two guys are just getting routine days off before playing three DH-less games in CitiField. Here’s the starting nine…
Brett Gardner, CF
Nick Swisher, RF
Mark Teixeira, 1B
Robinson Cano, 2B
Jorge Posada, DH
Andruw Jones, LF
Eduardo Nunez, SS
Ramiro Pena, 3B
Frankie Cervelli, C
CC Sabathia, SP
Today’s game starts at 1:05pm ET and can be seen on YES locally or MLB Network nationally. If you’re stuck at work, you can listen on WCBS 880. Enjoy.

Jeter will be in Trenton Saturday and Sunday and will report to the Yanks on Monday.
Great. Haven’t been this excited since last root canal.
I’m legitimately excited for Jeter to return. I can’t stand seeing Nunez in the field.
Right. They have had difficulty surviving without the Cap’n.
Sure they survived, but Nunez hasn’t exactly been lighting the world on fire with his .247 BA and 9 errors.
That was sarcastic. They haven’t survived, they have dominated.
Look, I’ve been as frustrated with Jeter as anyone. But he’s just indisputably better than Nunez.
Plus, getting Nunez out of the lineup will improve the bench.
We shall see how the team does when he returns. See how many games he strongly affects.
So our C lineup for CC. I like our chances.
Brew Crew flat out NOT hitting this series. that scares the shit outta me.
They need to pick it up this weekend.
Too bad playoff games are never during the day…
There are playoff games during the day. Just not our playoff games for ratings purposes.
The Brewers and Braves will get dibs on that 1 p.m. slot.
Exactly
We played some daytime playoff games last year… I distinctly remember games 2 and 5 of the ALCS being during the day… The Phil Hughes clunker and the CC Sabathia win.
Yes I was in a client meeting in Texas during that CC game and was very glad that CC kept me from getting completely mocked by my clients.
I think I’d like the lineup better with CC hitting
And Posada will have to bat right handed. We are doomed.
+ regression time. Works for all except Jeter.
Hey, Mike.
The new RAB commercial on YES said you guys liveblog during every game. I’m guessing they were misinformed?
Does anyone know how much minor leaguers spend going through scouting reports and stuff? Would that have any discernible effect on how well pitchers pitch because in the majors, most of the time, there is a lot of info on every hitter in order to attack them? Same applies, the other way, hitters with info on pitchers? How much of that is in the minors?
This lineup hurts my eyes
So we’ll probably score like, what, 10 runs today?
But yeah. Ouch. No Grandy, No A-Rod, no Martin.
nothing better than winning the first two and having CC on the mound for the sweep.
ahhh you just can’t predict baseball Suzyn…
maybe i should have put “potential”, didn’t mean to imply it’s an auto-win, just that it’s a nice luxury to have your ace on the mound for a game where you’ve already won the series.
Hopefully the jinx did not take effect.
thoughts on the six man rotation that Girardi said they are considering?
Personally, give CC the most amount of starts possible, the rest can settle itself.
Sounds like Girardi blowing smoke.
fine with it I guess, as long as it doesn’t mess up CC or take away from his number of starts. Might be easier to just replace Gordon and send Nova to AAA for now to refine his off speed stuff.
Ideally we have a 12 man rotation. No one will ever have an excuse to be injured.
Choose a different name please.
I was going to, then I realized I could just register the name and make it mine. I’ll take that option.
SLAP FIIIIIIIIIGHT!!!!!
That’s what Theo would do, since he has so much depth.
We like to call this the ‘Mitre Effect’.
With an arm like that, you HAVE to slot him in for starts.
No six man rotation! Ever! (unless it September and you are guaranteed to go to the playoffs). The thought of six man rotation just bothers the hell out of me. Pitchers are fine on a five day rotation and to give more starts to lesser quality pitchers is just idiotic. Drop Nova or Garcia to the pen it is not that hard. No wonder no teams have any players on the bench when they are being utilized such as 6th inning lefty and 6th starter. No! If anything I would much rather see pitchers going every five days and skipping over the fifth starter more often.
They said on the pregame show that Colon is a go for Saturday.
So, assuming he remains healthy and Hughes comes back soon, what do they do? I know they’ll option or DFA Gordon, but then do they send Nova to the ‘pen and Noesi back to AAA, or do they send Nova to AAA and keep Noesi? I personally think it would be the latter.
Noesi goes back down. Gordon DFA or phantom arm injury to the DL.
Nova is there to stay,he is not going anywhere.
I tend to agree. Garcia could be an effective option as a long man for the Yankees.
Nova is doing JUUUUST enough to keep his rotation spot.
the red sox got 0 WAR for $15M out of mike cameron, now that was a shrewd signing
I think that’s mainly due to the injuries, but, yea, gave him too much money.
I can see Crawford’s contract ending like Cameron’s
Crawford will still be a couple years younger at that point than Cameron is now.
But obviously that deal is off to a shaky start.
yeah, yikes. and i was (among many) hoping for the yanks to sign him. good thing they went thames instead. i think it was him, right? so thames/jones >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>2 yrs of cameron
amirite?
I would call this the Yankee’s B- lineup
but our A- bench.
CC+A-bench=confidence
Mets hatre aside, I seriously feel bad for Willie Harris who lost a child last night. My condolence goes out to the Harris family.
Wow that’s terrible. I do the same as well.
didnt know that. sucks man.
yeah not liking a team has nothing to do with real life stuff. idf like to think that even if papelbon had something like this happen to him everyone would be a human being about it
Agreed.
Wow, I didn’t realize that’s why. What a terrible, terrible thing to happen.
Honestly can’t think of anything worse, as a parent. I don’t even know how I could go on if anything happened to my son. Definitely condolences that direction.
jus saying guys, if you’re listening online, Uecker is calling the game from Milwaukee’s side. worth the price of admission
The Yankees have brought back Sergio Mitre. http://espn.go.com/blog/new-yo.....nkee-again
where have you been?
that is soooooooooooooooooooooooooo 14 hours ago!
Rarely will ESPN be the firs to break a story, just a heads up…
http://riveraveblues.com/2011/.....kee-51352/
OH WHAT??? No Morgan??? *cries*
Nice FB by CC their.
I still lol at the Johan Santana trade.
Kay: Phillip Humber is pitching well for the White Sox.
You really are reminding us of thet???
reyes led off the game with a double against verlander, i hope we can contain him this weekend
then of course he gets doubled up
The entire Met hitting squad are hitting at a ridiculous rate. Still think that Reyes and the entire Met team is playing way over its head offensively.
Me too.
They scored more runs in each game against the Tigers in Comerica than the Yankees did in their entire 4-game series there.
WTF that means “cut the mustard”????
Hot dogging it, I believe.
To paraphrase Lando, that deal is getting worse all the time.
Boston’s 4-5 today is Pedroia Varitek, lol.
Pedroia is fine because he has been on fire, but Varitek is lol beyond belief.
Are the Yanks and Sox both conceding today’s games?
CC with back to back Ks… and the perfect game is still in tact.
jinxed
Uecker: “Through the hole… and a base hit for Braun. and thereeeeee goes his no hitter”
love that man
One of the greatest baseball voices of all time, no doubt.
Is Darnell macdonald really the best option Boston has?
Yes?
MacDonald>Cameron>>>>>JD Drew>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>A-Gon
as a RF, of course.
Jeter would of made that pl…never mind.
Sox 5-9 hitters
5 Varitek
6 Reddick
7 Sutton
8 Scutaro
9 Lester
Enough to make me want more interleague play.
LOL. $165M payroll baby!
/DisadvantagedAgainstNLTeams
i bet a-gon is missing the padress lineup
I am not sure that 5-8 starts for San Diego…
Pirates maybe… and they still woulda lost 2 of 3 to them.
The strike out pitch is working again today.
CC looks really good. Just smoked the Brewers with some Fastballs there.
I just turned on the radio 90 seconds ago and yelled ‘shut up!’ twice already.
They insist the Yanks and Sox will be in a bidding war for Prince.
“I never would have heard of Ontario, CA except we fly there sometimes”
REALLY!!!!???!!! So that means you HAVE heard of it!
Wait, that’s WCBS?
Yeah, John and Suzyn.
How much cannabis have they consumed today?
Really? They are so f’n dumb.
Yankees and the Sox won’t touch Fielder with a 40 foot pole.
i disagree. I thin the Sox would consider him to replace Papi if he decides he deserves more big money.
With the season Ortiz is having, I thik the Sox bring him back for one more year.
for how much though? I would re-sign him for 1yr/$6M but does he want 2/$25M? Boston has been known to be shrewd with their own.
BG stole off a lefty? madness
Nice swipe by Gardner! Now his SB% is up to 3%.
The Yanks should run all day on this guy.
Dum da dum dum..
Wow.
Haha, the Brewers defense is just the gift that keeps on giving
swisher!!!
Double Steal!!!!
Nice double steal! Gardner is up to 4%!
double steal!
Err, Teix.
RBIs for Robbie!
3 for 37 with RISP now 4-38 well done Cano
Ooo wee!
Ribbies for Robbie
Booyah
Nice read by Robbie to take second, too
Robbie picks them up
Can’t complain about that. Great hit by Cano!
that should be all CC needs
Yay Robbie.
Beautiful hitting there by Cano.
Wolf doesnt look like a guy with a 3.20 ERA
Don’t his other stats not back it up?
Eh, they don’t support a 3.20 ERA but 3.20/4.07/3.99 is still solid.
he sure looked real solid out there today.
That is an NL 3.2 ERA.
oh yeah, its like dog years
NL ERA : AL ERA :: Canadian Dollar : American Dollar
Montero, Vazquez and Whelan named to IL All-Star team.
How can I listen to the game if I’m in the office and not a MLB Audio subscriber?
sign up for mlb audio?
stick your head out the window with an AM antenna dude.
I meant is there a website that I could go to? No need to be dicks, dicks.
You got a smartphone?? Its pretty easy if you do
Wow, that was not even close.
34 pitches
Got to enjoy when the opposing pitcher throws 35 pitches in the first inning.
so the Phil Coke the starter experiment has officially ended
Coke is 1-8 with a 4.91 ERA after allowing seven earned runs in four-plus innings against the New York Mets on Wednesday night. Left-handed rookie Charlie Furbush will move from the bullpen to the rotation.
DFAd? i smell a reunion!!!!!!!!
No, just moved back to the ‘pen.
The Yankees have been killing the Brewers on pitch count all week
i thought these guys had mega pitching?
Way to go Nunez
Yeah, that didn’t sit well with me.
1 hit 2 runs 36 pitches
Oh, Nunez. Swing at the first pitch when he’s walked 3 guys.
ummm he trained with Cano this off-season, right?
Joe and I on IM just now…
me: 35 pitches!
Joe: wonder if they can get him to 50
me: not with these three guys coming up
Joe: was about to say
me: i’ll be shocked if he makes it to 37
hah!
Joe: hah
classic.
Daniel Murphy homered off of JUSTIN VERLANDER. I’m feeling a little less confident going into the subway series…
CC’s got to keep that pitch cout down.
That will help.
Asked and answered
Nice double play by Pena.
CC is looking fairly sharp this afternoon.
wow, CC is in full blown Beast mode today.
He Gone!!!
/White Sox Anouncers’d
Only 1 K that inning. Failure.
Going with the Mets…
6. None of them.
Yea, that was my thought, too.
Looking at the opponents. I think the Mets have impressed me the most, looking at what they’ve done.
with pena in the lineup its like a national league lineup
soooooo disadvantaged! damn you NL!!!!!!
-Youk
Let’s fucking help Randy Wolf! Good shit guys!
Looking at our lineup, I think it was the right choice.
If the pitcher didn’t suck then yes I would agree.
never too soon for small ball. atta boy Pena!
who else cant wait for RA Dickey face?
meh, its no Brian Wilson Beard…
Uggh..Dillon Gee
“Kay approved stats?”
Oh, lord.
Well, “Put that one on the left side” just isn’t enough…
lmao at “Kay Approved Stats”
That guy gets a +1
Yankees are 6-3 in games where Cervelli gets a hit.
yankees are 12-5 when CC pitches
OK, so after the big 1st inning, sounds like we are gonna give Wolf some leash
Sterling dry humping these not-homerun calls kills me.
that’s so Nunie
Nunez’d
Cant blame Nunez there. Tough play
yes, but why make it worse and risk an extra base by making a horrible throw
Nunez with another errant throw. That never happens.
hes got the range you gotta give him that
Everyday shortstop
Nunez should not be allowed to throw the ball. Run it to first.
Jeets waves at that.
Maybe a token “pasta dive”.
Oh Nunez
From Gameday, it looks like CC is getting squeezed
That was not a Nunez error. That was scored a base hit.
Jeter must be the official score keeper. Helping NunEEEEz feel better about his play.
I’m sure the “6-man rotation” will work itself out. Hard to believe we will have too many turns with Colon, Hughes, and Garcia effective and healthy at the same time.
Or you know, not go with a six man rotation which is just a terrible idea.
I don’t think it is a terrible idea if you keep CC, Phil and AJ on regular schedule and give the older guys a little more rest. The question mark is Nova…
CC, AJ, Colon, and Phil should all be going on regular rest and either Nova or Garcia should not be in the rotation. No reason to go messing around with a six man rotation. Have your five best go.
Where was that?
I hope Kay isn’t serious about putting Bartolo in the BP
seriously. what would they be saving him for? he’s on borrowed time and a 1 year contract. Ride him hard in the rotation while he’s effective.
Kay isn’t the smartest guy in the world…sure he has a large vocabulary but he says some stupid stupid things every single game.
He tends to slip into the “I’ve seen it with my own eyes” knod of narrative, which allows him to call Garcia a good pitcher and advocate for Colon in the ‘pen because of his “stuff.”
Wait, you don’t want our 2nd best starter pitching fewer innings more than likely in lower leverage situations?
CC Threw a 96 mph heater down the middle and didn’t get the call.
Ump must have blue eyes.
I have blue eyes! I’m getting offended!!
Nova a reliable starter? Okay then.
how is this a tough call? Hughes, Colon > Nova, Gordon.
and its not like nova would have to be released send him down and work on his shit
someone is going down eventually
I agree, but remember Phil Hughes hasn’t pitched very effectively in the Majors since around June of last year, and has not been remotely effective this year. I think it’s too soon to bank on him as an effective starter. I understand being optimistic, but I think (if you’re being realistic) you have to think of Hughes as big question mark until he proves he’s effective, instead of vice versa.
+1
I think that might have gone foul with one more bounce.
Bad luck. Can’t be playing that deep on Gomez though right?
This idea (perpretrated by the MSM) that Freddy Garcia is a good pitcher needs to stop. He’s “pitched well” because he’s “pitched lucky.” To me, it’s just a matter of time until that luck runs out, as he is a smoke and mirrros kind of pitcher, relying on location almost entirely. That Kay would support Colon’s move to the ‘pen because his stuff “translates” there is about as dumb a comment as you can make.
Did you look at his stats from last year?
I’m not trying to say that he has been without success, but it’s no secret that Garcia relies solely on his location. If he’s not able to put it where he wants to, he’s probably screwed. That, to me, is dangerous and will always make me (and others, I assume) leary when he takes the mound every fifth day. I understand keeping him in the rotation until (and if) he sucks beyond repair, but I would never say he “needs to stay” in the rotation, as Kay and Flaherty seem to be saying.
Garcia has been lucky, but his peripherals are still solid for a back-end starter (4.06 FIP, 4.17 xFIP).
Yes, definitely. And that’s totally fine. I’m not advocating that he be dumped. As a matter of fact, I’d send Nova down before anything else (clean and simple solution). I just don’t like this idea that he is must-have in the rotation, which Kay is suggesting.
I thought the MSM’s plan was to criticize the Yankees for any reason? Wouldn’t that mean they’re saying Freddie sucks?
Heh. Maybe I should amend that: YES Network, not MSM.
I’m not sure I have as much faith in Nova as Kay and Flash do. He’s been getting better, sure, but sending him down to the minors while he’s got options wouldn’t exactly be a crime against humanity.
That said, I’d bump Chief from the rotation before I bump Nova
but nova can be sent down, freddy cant
exactly. Freddy is fine for a 5th starter, it’s not like they’re gonna let him start any playoff games.
Indeed. Ride the Freddy train until the luck runs out and stash Nova away in AAA. No need to reinvent the wheel in making the decision, though Kay seems hellbent on doing so.
True, but I wouldn’t be in favor of releasing Freddy. I’d rather put him in the bullpen instead of Carlyle/Mitre/whoever today’s token long man is.
Kay’s opinion that his stuff won’t translate to the ‘pen makes no sense to me. If you can throw strikes, you can be a long reliever.
Nah, between the two it’s a wash. Nova is more flexible in terms of what you can do with him, so I’d throw him in the pen or to Scranton.
Garcia: 4.06 FIP
Nova: 4.5 FIP
Where the hell is CC’s change up?
CC – 2
Prince – 0
Hell yeah CC!!
Beware The Beast!!
CC crowns the Prince
Awesome.
That pitch count is worrying me though
ill take 6 innings from CC as long as he strikes out 12
Was that a classic pitch-around with Braun or what? Like CC’s saying, I KNOW I can get Fielder.
I think it was more a case of I KNOW I don’t want any part of Braun in a 2-0 count, let’s start fresh with the next guy.
But great pitching against Fielder either way.
Note to Cervelli: it’s the top of the 3rd.
Settle down buddy.
By the seventh he’ll rip off his own arm and eat it.
That kid with the long hair from the Verizon commercial goes to my High School…
Step aside, Bautista
Teix! holy shit he is a monster.
the 300 Teix Message!
300 Tex Messages!
congrats to teix
leading the league on your 300th
Great question in KLaw’s chat.
“Johnny (Boston)
Can we get off the dodgers story please?? Nobody outside of LA cares, Keith.
Klaw (2:04 PM)
I don’t think that’s remotely the case.”
Says a lot about people in Boston, methinks.
I don’t care.
I don’t care about the Dodgers.
McCourt bounced paychecks to non-player employees this week. That’s awful. Just take the team from him already.
Seriously. LA deserves its storied franchise back.
Damn right they do.
Cole Hamels likely out of the game, hit by a line drive.
If it’s serious, then this is going to be very, very interesting.
the ball knocked the glove of his hand
shouldnt be anything that effects his career
Interesting. I live in Phillies area, and so I can’t see their games.
The Brewers SS really Jeter’d that ball.
Cameron was DFAed? Yankees should give him a shot at a bench role.
Ha.
pass.
Nope.
Grats big Tex
Tuned in just in time to see Teix’s 300th!!
Quick & dirty on the 1st two runs?
cano 2 run double to left center in the 1st
Ribbinson.
I forgot how good of a CF Gomez was.
remember when he robbed a-rod of a homerun over the “baggy” back in 2009 when he played for the twins, that sucked, but obviously the yanks still won
Cervelli! being useful!
Yanks auto win with Cervelli’s second hit of the day.
Blooper!
wow, look at Cervelli being useful
Montero who?
Haha, poor Ramiro can’t catch a break.
Philly big 4 down perhaps to Halladay, Lee, Worley, Kendrick
Where was Hamels hit?
according to twitter, the hand. ouch.
non-pitching
Made the play and finished the inning (got one more batter), so that bodes well for him.
Robbed
That was a hell of play, but the 4 run lead should be enough for CC.
Man, they’ve got more hits than the Brewers? I wanted them to win but get outhit again.
Flaherty is awful in the booth. His voice, and the useless things it says.
And on top of that, he barely even bothers to conceal how much he hates Kay.
Hating Kay isn’t a bad thing in and of itself, but it makes for some painfully awkward broadcasts.
I really hate games with Kaye and Flash, they really get on my nerves with some of the asinine things they say. I hate how Kaye always has his talking points, it’s like he is trying to turn the game into an add on for his radio show.
The best booth is Singleton, Cone and/or Leiter, in my opinion.
Can’t wait to hear Cone and Leiter.
Kay is at his best when he is setting up, Cone, Paulie, Leiter or Singleton. Days like this he is doing play by play and there is just no chemistry here. Boring and he doesn’t extract anything interesting.
One has to Soriano.
Pretty much yeah.
The Other two, I have no idea.
Maybe A-Rod?
A-Rod is surprising just because it has been such a long time since he has been a SB threat.
CC throwing more 4 seamers lately
Makes sense, he hasn’t been able to get his changeup in there for strikes today.
Plus, with a 4 run lead you can afford to attack hitters a little more directly.
No I mean in general. If you look at his starts from early in the year. He was throwing way more 2 seamers.
CC is seriously in beast mode.
CC-Completely Cruisin’
Kind of a misleading question, no?
Wouldn’t it be “Name the 4 times a Yankee’s gone 15/20 by the ASB”?
Sori don’t count as two players.
times and players are two different words.
I love it when I have reading comprehension fails.
thats why they said times and not just yankees
How could they do that in the shift? Were they not in the shift?
lefty pitching, Tex hitting righty, d plays Tex to pull
Oh that useless asshole.
Ain’t that America?
Pudgy little white girl stuffing spun sugar into her face….
(sigh)
Woah. Don’t hate on the spun sugar.
Meh. Not my cup of tea. Wasn’t even too into it as a little kid.
I don’t think I’ve ever eaten cotton candy. One of those things when I first heard about it as a kid it just sounded disgusting.
Hard to imagine anything made basically of pure sugar as disgusting. Gets a little too sweet as you get older, but I loved it as a kid.
I think it’s because I knew what cotton was, so I just couldn’t put the two words together.
I can’t believe the no-hitter magnet can actually still get a ball over the fence.
& more fail.
Did Michal Kay just call Yuniesky Betancourt Rafael Betancourt?
That’s raycess
True or false: Yuniesky Betancourt is the worst everyday player in baseball
I think its between him and Aaron Miles.
What about Phil Coke, Ian Kennedy and Austin Jackson????
only 12th worst this year by fWAR
Figgins, Pierre, and Ibanez tied for worst
That’s actually a pretty awesome bobblehead.
almost his best bobble head
http://cgi.ebay.com/C-C-Sabath.....106wt_1110
Holy crap that thing’s magnificent.
that bobble head looks like CC got hit in the nuts with a comebacker
Gotta give Brewers fans credit, there were a ton of them at all 3 games of this series.
I had no idea that there were so many of them / they traveled so well.
CC is mixing his fastball and change up very well.
Yankees are 3-0 when Cervelli gets a hit and Sabathia starts.
CC dealing!!
9 K’s through 5, CC doing his DRob impression.
I will be at the game on Friday night, what the chances jeter hits 3000 that night?
As in tomorrow? 0%, and I’ll go further, 0% chance you see him. Or are you referring to a week from Friday against Tampa?
next friday against tampa
pretty signifcant, I would say. 5 games to get 6 hits? truely feasible.
I think CC was muttering this as he strode off the mound:
When CC’s pitching this well, you might as well pull a Jim Tracy and pull the starters. This game’s as good as over.
Fortunately today all of our backups are already playing.
CC has a good chance to surpass his Yankee record of 10 Ks today.
Back-to-back games with high strikeout totals for Sabathia.
Anyone know CC’s career high for Ks?

bad brewers defense is bad
HA fail!!!
Again: the Brewers defense is the gift that keeps on giving.
Brewers defense Fails again
Lol Brewers
The Brewers have committed no errors in this series, but they have committed several crimes against adequate defense.
I wanna see Andruw crush something
watch him after the game when he eats a bag of cheetos
Do the Brewers play this sloppy defense against other teams?
Judging from the difference between Greinke’s ERA and FIP coming into Tuesday, I’d say yes.
Oh it’s all so obvious now!
SAD must be contagious!
LOL someone get a gif of that
Might be time to get Eduardo Nunez a chinstrap for that helmet.
But it hit Gamel in the head.
The lulz.
I was thinking double sided sticky tape.
Love whenever Nunez’s helmet comes off
Is it too much to ask for Nunez to get a helmet that fits?
Not if it gives us a laugh every time he runs
His cap doesn’t fit either. He has a small head.
/awaits jokes
I hate when they make a pitcher throw 30-something pitches in the first, and then he’s <90 at the end of the fifth.
But we got 4 runs off him.
fist pump!
Nunez is the Buster Keaton of the Yankees.
Wowwww what a throw and pick by Cervelli and Tex
Well, turns out he was safe. But hell, I’ll take it.
That is worthy of a fist pump.
Yay Tex and Cervelli
I’m surprised Cervelli didn’t throw that into right field. CC is mowing ‘em down.
Ryan Braun is good at hitting baseballs
I wonder how many runs have scored when batters reach on K’s this year.
Umm…that’s an awkward pause.
Though I’m not too surprised that Flash doesn’t have many friends.
There’s always awkward pauses when you have Kay and Flaherty in the booth by themselves.
The utter lack of humor or lightness of any kind doesn’t make for great buddies.
He’s only friends with other marginally talented back up catchers
CC thought that was gone.
97 on the 95th pitch
11 ks!
11 K’s!!!
CC = Cruise Control
Congrats to CC for setting a high for Ks for the Yanks.
So…a pitcher has never had 5k in an inning right?
Seems unbelievable, with all the innings in history. I hope to see it one day.
That’s a tough thing to do.
best chance to see it would probably be any game where Cervelli is catching AJ
Exactly. How many pitchers with a nasty, very-difficult-to-catch putaway pitch have thrown to subpar catchers in history?
Probably a lot.
Calling Cervelli a “subpar catcher” is a compliment.
The sample size lessens considerably if you say “atrocious excuse for a baseball player squenched behind the plate”
lol true.
Well yeah if you are in the MLB you should be able to catch pitches unless your name is Cervelli.
This is clearly his best start of the year, and it could be approaching his best ever in Pinstripes depending on the next 3 innings…
he likely won’t pitch beyond the seventh
Lester is mowing down the Phillies.
Helping to prove my theory that the Phillies’ offense kinda sucks.
Cliff Lee disapproves.
Well, they are old. Maybe it’s not warm enough out.
Cliff Lee disapproves once again. The Yankees are old according to him.
The Yankees are old. But the Phillies are actually the only team that is older.
They are pirates, not soldiers.
/Santa Anna’d
12!!
Honestly CC is making this look to easy.
12 K’s
Doesn’t it say a lot about John Flaherty that his first reaction when he heard people talk about what a nice guy CC is was “they must be lying!”?
I wouldn’t believe it.
Mainly because I’m a cynical grouch.
Will this be the first 5game win streak?
13 KKKKKKKKKKKKK
I really hope CC comes out next inning.
Dear Milwaukee:
You should’ve offered me 7 years.
Sincerely,
CC Sabathia
CC is good at baseball
13 baby!
13!!!
[Just remembers there's a game this afternoon...]
What’d I miss?
Oh… wow.
13 K’s by CC
nunez is such a good luck charm. whats the record now with nunez playing? it is really up there. they will start losing again when jeter gets back. yeah jeter will hit more singles than nunez but how many routine groundballs will turn into singles? prob even more than before the calf injury.
Obvious troll is obvious.
obvious jeter fanboy is obvious
Nope. I think the Yankees are basically the same team with either Jeter or Nunez. Very little difference. You just beg to differ.
ok we disagree, thats OK.
The difference is about 50M over the next 3 years.
That’s it.
…which, of course, matters to you not.
SSS
totally better than Jeter. glad you were here to clear that up for us.
youre welcome
Do you think CC owns the NL?
CC is going to get to pitch one more inning. Even though we’re winning by four, it still pisses me off they let Randy Wolfe stick around this long.
CC can tie Cliff Lee for most Ks in a game this year if he can strike out the side.
It’s funny that Lee lost that game
If he strikes out five of the last six batters, he can tie Guidry for the Yankee single-game record, and break if if he strikes all six batters out.
Of course, that’s not going to happen, since strike-outs, since he’ll probably be yanked for the 9th.
Broken sentence. I was going to say strikeouts usually require a higher pitch count, so he’ll be pulled.
does anyone know where Uecker goes in the middle innings? always disappears for like 1.5 – 2 innings…
Afternoon delight?
Maybe Hughes comes back and gives CC an extra day.
What 13% voted for the Brewers???
Tying run comes to the plate for the Phils in the 7th, 1 out…
Why the hell is Drob warming?
Because it wouldn’t be a Yankees game without DRob warming.
dry hump!!!
I kind of miss the D-Rob dry hump counter.
damn you
YES Network suitsanonymous random blogging complainersThey’re not going to let CC go much longer and if the Brewers get on the board?
im sure gonna miss seeing nunez out there when jeter gets back. i dont know what it is about him but he looks like a total badass. i think its the scruffy look.
Truly, you have a dizzying intellect.
Wait ’till he gets started!
startedgoing!…dammit.
Hell of a game by CC!
CC getting a nice hand
Is this his record?
Damn you Ryan Braun!!!
Big man! Hell of a job!
Great job by CC
Yeah, I just gave CC a standing ovation from my living room
/imighthaveaproblem
You & me both, homie.
is that chew CC just put in his mouth??
donut
Zz straight up killed it today. Excellent job, ZZ
CC has raised his K/9 all the way to 7.36 or so from 6.86 before today.
there goes CCs 11th win. Boone is in
only for one batter. He can’t blow the game in one batter
if anyone can…
I hate you Boone.
I’d rather have CC pitch righty than bring in Boone.
Just a little too quick, Prince.
They should have sent a-rod to the bullpen to give logan a pep talk before he came out
Prince is on everything man.
Need to get something down and away.
Boone!!
Heh. Logan K’s Prince.
Fielder has done nothing this series.
That works. Yeah.
And Boone says, relax big man- I got this
Boone is heating up for the second half of the season. He still sucks though.
Cheers to Joe for trying his damndest to get Logan going again.
Great job. By Boone. I thought he’d eff it up for sure
Yay Boone!
Meh I woulda liked to seen him finish it, but it’s the conservative call. I’m okay with it.
If the bases were full I wonder if Joe would’ve still put Boone in.
I always knew John Axford would end up pitching in Yankee Stadium one day…
Definitely should of kept.
Fellow Golden Domer.
Why did the Yankees just release him?
Axford does a nice job filling Milwaukee’s “reliever with silly facial hair” quota
I think we should predict/expect torrents of HRs from all the sluggers that face the Yanks.
Worked some sweet voodoo on the Prince.
Mitre!!!!
Please not Mitre. It’s only 4-0.
There is hope for the Brewers, Mitre is warming up.
CC’s start today was the most dominant start by a Yankee since…
Colon’s SHO.
Big bad Bart-o
Fritz Peterson’s first night home with his new family?
RJs 1-0 game over the Sox in 2006. Giambi HR FTW!!!!
(Damn I wish he had a better glove!)
Damn I had no idea axford threw 98. Holy shit
Brewers suck dick
Mitre might be in to set up the save situation for Mariano.
The NL is awesome!
Y’all need to quit hating on my boy Booney
Are we in for THE EXPERIENCE today?
DE-FENSE clapclapclap
DE-FENSE clapclapclap
Fucking Varitek has hit two home runs today. And the Magic Elf hit one, too. Who was it that was laughing at those two being the 4-5 hitters?
Thank you for reminding me why I hate you, Phillies.
They still took the series.
I still hate them.
Red Sox were being shut out until Hamels had to leave after being hit by the line drive…
I hate whoever hit that line drive.
Adrian Gonzalez
Does that help his WAR then?
Heads must roll.
Game was over once Hamels had to leave. Philly bullpen looks really rough because the middle guys are now closing so current middle guys are so-so.
Jeter’d
Great job cervelli!
Nice RBI thanks Cervelli.
Clutch Cervelli. This just increases the chances we’ll see you know who.
Ha Cervelli with 3 hits. But this means we’ll probably see Mitre…sigh
3 hits, 2 RBIs for Frankie?
Am I dreaming??
he’s really clutch. Michael Kay told me so.
DPHW2OARISP
Designated Pinch Hitter With 2 Outs And Runners In Scoring Position
He’ll make up for it with three throwing errors on his next start, dont worry about that.
Was anyone else hoping for Noesi?
Nothing against Ayala. He’s pitched great this season.
Noesi just threw 50 pitches a day and a half ago. He wasn’t coming anywhere near this game unless something terrible happened.
You’re right. I totally forgot that was in long relief. I just caught one of his innings.
If you caught a milestone homerun ball, what would you ask for in return for giving it to the player?
A different ball, signed.
Same and the opportunity to hand it to him
A night with the Mrs.?
Seriously though, I’d start high. Why not?
Game-used jersey signed? Game used bat? Try to ask him to get a few others to sign as well?
Ask for the world & negotiate.
I would see whats offered. 300 HRs is a big thing, I would probably trade it back for another autographed ball. Maybe throw a bat in too, just bc that would be awesome.
If you told me Braun was going to hit .700 this series, I would have envisioned a different three games.
what happened to Mitre?
he was just getting some work in since he wasn’t needed today
Now Adrian Gonzalez, that’s a guy who knows how to win. Can’t hit the pitcher? Well, hit him with the baseball and knock him out of the game!
19.2 IP, 21 Ks, 0.00 ERA, 0.76 WHIP, 2 Ws. I’ll take that.
/nobody cares about my fantasy team
Yankeeeeeeees!
CC leads MLB in wins until the Tigers – Mets game is over.
These guys just can’t lose during the day. Must be the warm sun rays which brings out their inner Megatron.
absolute tanks in the day, possible soldiers at night?
Their arms get ripped off when they play at night. Especially when it’s against Boston.
Guess no one on this squad has blue eyes.
Oh Teix & his special balls…
Someone’s gonna have to go up a cup size if he plans on keepin #300 with his other special balls
These guys just can’t lose, period. We will win the Mets series, win the Indians series, and take 3/4 in Tampa. CC-Bartolo-AJ-Phil-Freddy is the best rotation in the AL.
Could you find Doc Brown and use his Delorean to go back in time to about March. Then post this on all of the “sky is falling” posts back then when Cashman sucked and could only find trash like Bartolo Colon and Freddy Garcia to fill our rotation. Heads might explode across time and space.
NBA lockout? WTF.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
