  1. Greg says:

This looks like a slam sunk, but as you know Suzyn…

  2. Tom Zig says:

I wonder how the game thread comments would be if the Yankees had already lost 16 in a row and were facing King Felix.

and Banuelos has struck out 89 batters in 89 innings while giving up exactly 89 hits. Kinda cool.

    • YankeesJunkie says:

RAB would have been shut down about 10 days ago.

    • CBean says:

I wonder how the game thread comments would be if the Yankees had already lost 16 in a row and were facing King Felix.

Empty because most of the readership would have already jumped off a bridge.

  3. Brooklyn Ed says:

FACT: On this day, the Nady/Marte traded happened 3 years ago.

  4. YankeesJunkie says:

CC versus an anemic Mariner offense should be delightful to watch especially as there are at least 3 lefties.

  5. Xstar7 says:

Apparently the Nationals are already comparing Bryce Harper to Jackie Robinson.

    A little batshit, no?

    • Ivan says:

The comparison makes no sense from a baseball talent stand point and certainly from a historical standpoint.

      • Xstar7 says:

They’re not comparing the two talent wise, but in terms of the scrutiny they face.(Harper being extremely highly touted, getting on the cover of SI already, and that enormous signing bonus.)

        Still batshit insane.

        • Ivan says:

Yes it still is insane, heck its even more insane when you delve into it

A much better comparison would to compare Harper to lets say LeBron James when he was a basketball prospect.

          • Guest says:

Now, that is an apt comparison. But its been made before, so I guess the Nationals are trying to be different.

        • Guest says:

It’s actually more batshit insane when you compare them scrutiny wise rather than talent wise.

Talent wise, Jackie robinson was a hall of famer who played the game at an incredibly elite level (albeit for a relatively short burst of time…didn’t break into the majors until he was 28 for some reason…I forget).

It’s ridiculous to compare any 18 year old talent wise to one of the games greats, but if there was any teenager to do that with, it would be Harper. He’s got a ridiculously unusual skillset. Sick, even.

But to compare them scrutiny-wise…GFTO. NOW.

Jackie Robinson underwent more strain or scrutiny than any other athlete has ever had to bear, all while facing untold slings and humilitations from his fellow Major Leaguers, AND with the hopes of an entire race tied to his back. (I’m black, I can speak for the people. It’s cool).

Bryce Harper…yeah, he’s got none of that.

        • bonestock94 says:

          That’s pretty much offensive

    • YankeesJunkie says:

      Bryce Harper=Jackie Robinson with grit

    • pete says:

it’s batshit crazy and completely random, but the kid did put up a .436 wOBA in A-ball at age eighteen

    • MikeD says:

I can’t think of a single reason to make that comparison. Forgetting the whole little ol’ color barrie thing he helped to shatter, but they are not similar type of players.

I don’t even want to know why they think that. I just want to marvel over it and let it rattle around in my head for a while just trying to guess why they’d make that comparison. Even if they were similar players, just the idea they picked Jackie Robinson is crazy. Pick any other player but Jackie Robinson!

  6. Mike D. says:

Does anyone know the lineups for AA and AAA? Or where to find them usually?

  7. Kevin G. says:

I think it’s time to find a new picture for games CC pitches

  8. MikeD says:

What’s this? YES is about to talk about CC and WAR, and no David Cone in site?

    Hell = skating pond.

  9. Ivan says:

I can never in a million years imagine the yankees losing 16 straight games. Can you imagine Yankee fans reaction if that were to happen.

I can see it now Mike Axisa game thread post would say:

“The Yankees will have a lead in the 8th/9th inning when it is all send and done”

  10. StanfordBen says:

Vegas has the Yanks as approximately 75% favorites. I say this to point out that people shouldn’t go completely insane if the Yanks lose, for the same reason you shouldn’t go completely insane if you lose two consecutive hands of blackjack (around same probability).

  11. #24!!!! says:

Woah! Bob Lorenz just said WAR and sabermetrics. Interesting…

  12. Jesse says:

If the Yankees lose this game, I’ll cry.
CC Sabathia should pitch a complete game shutout in this one, no doubt.
Fister is good, but he’s no CC or Justin Verlander.
And the sawx have a weakened lineup tonight with no Kevin Useless or Jacoby Dingleberry.
I smell the Yankees closing the gap to just 1 after tonight.

  13. RichYF says:

@twitter conversation about WW. As a 27 year old, the whole idea of generalizing “twenty-somethings” as “10 year olds with walkie-talkies” and saying “I’m an adult in the real world and have big boy things to be worried about” offends me. Then I realize what quite a few of the 45+ year olds at work call me..

    • Mike Axisa says:

I didn’t see the WW post but I saw the Twitter conversation. Resorting to call people “ten year olds with walkie-talkies” just says that Steve is in over his head.

  14. OldYanksFan says:

Losing 16 games in a row seems statistically almost impossible. When you consider the M’s #1 and #2 pitchers, it’s quite unbelievable.

    • Mike Axisa says:

The Mariners were essentially a .500 team before the streak, so the odds of a .500 ballclub losing 16 games in a row is 0.00153%, or one in 65,536. Unless my math is wrong, which it might be (just 0.500^16).

  15. Greg says:

The Nats have just picked up Jonny Gomes from the Reds.

  16. Sheepmeister says:

I would really love a cash ninja trade for a number 2 starter. I know he can’t make other GMs do that, but I would love to see someone no one thinks is available (ie billingsly or kershaw) and just snatch them out off the trade market and the first think you hear about it is that the trade is already done.

  17. Nuke LaDoosh says:

David Sims and Mike Blowers…should be interesting.

  18. Karl Krawfid says:

    Keep it going CC

  19. Bronx Byte says:

How significant would signing Cliff Lee for heavy $$$$ have been ?
    He’s 9-7 with a 3.06 ERA

Freddy Garcia is 9-7 with a 3.23 ERA

Bartolo Colon is 7-6 with a 3.29 ERA

    Yep !

  20. Will (the other one) says:

Fun fact: CC is currently on pace to throw a 27-pitch perfect game.

  21. Nuke LaDoosh says:

OMG what an inning for CC

  22. bonestock94 says:

Thanks for making me download a completely worthless 700 MB update, Apple.

  23. Mike Axisa says:

    I don’t think CC broke a sweat.

  24. Xstar7 says:

7 pitch first inning for CC. I can taste the CGSO already.

  25. nick says:

Montero just belted a double a shade to left-center-field off of Pat Misch in Buffalo, hit it so hard Golson couldn’t score from 1st.

  26. Joel says:

@ the SWB game and Montero just ripped a Double to Center.. Unfortunately my iPhone camera is cracked -_-

  27. Joel says:

@ the SWB game and Montero just ripped a Double to Center.. Unfortunately my iPhone camera is cracked.. For Shame..

  28. baravelli says:

Seriously, I give CC a solid 10% chance of throwing a no-hitter tonight. Does that sound about right?

  29. MikeD says:

Jeter slow on picking up that pitch. He’s old.

  30. Greg says:

Curtis has got to cut down on his k’s

    • Mike Axisa says:

Not really, that’s just who he is. There’s very little correlation between strikeouts and offensive production. An out’s an out.

      • Greg says:

That’s the same thing I say about Robbie Cano and hs agressiveness. That’s who he is.

        • Mike Axisa says:

Well that’s different because Cano gets himself out on bad pitches. Granderson walks a lot and works deep counts (leads the league in pitches per plate appearance), strikeouts are a byproduct.

  31. Greg says:

    They are swinging at everything.

  32. Ivan says:

Not even the 2003 Tigers lost 16 consecutive games.

  33. Karl Krawfid says:

Change up away. Do it CC.

  34. Karl Krawfid says:

    Wooo Chavey!

  35. bonestock94 says:

Hooray for defensive competency at 3B!

  36. Stratman9652 says:

Making this an 18 game losing streak with a perfect game would be amazing.

  37. Mike Axisa says:

    Welcome back, Chavy.

  38. Pasqua says:

Chavez doing his best Nunez impersonation, just for laughs.

  39. Karl Krawfid says:

    Not dropping the back knee.

  40. Greg says:

That was a breaking ball. He’s starting to come around.

  41. 1stbase says:

    tex getting his avg up

  42. Xstar7 says:

    Plate discipline, Robbie. Get some.

  43. karel capek says:

Nonsense post about David Cone and Buster Keaton.

  44. Grit for Brains says:

The price on Jimenez hasn’t dropped at all, writes ESPN’s Jayson Stark. He says the Rockies require “three sure-thing young players, including one pitcher who goes into their rotation immediately.”

Sounds like 1 but not 2 of the B’s along with Montero and Nova would be good to get it done.

  45. Greg says:

    Hook line and sinker.

  46. Xstar7 says:

Another nice play by the Zombie.

  47. ultimate913 says:

Sorry, Mike, but I’m gonna ruin a bit of your DoTF.

    DBJ went 4 for 4 with 1 2B today.

He’s now hitting .333/.470/.510 on the season.

I didn’t think such a “bad” draft pick would be doing so well at his first shot at the pros.

  48. Xstar7 says:

    Jorge ain’t dead yet

  49. Erica says:

    Sweet sideburns, Chav.

  50. first time lawng time says:

Question for you all: how do you argue with someone that picthing to the score is dumb and that pitchers don’t (or shouldn’t) do it?

  51. Steve S. says:

Reds deal Gomes, call up (1B) Alonso…..is that a deal I smell cookin?

  52. MikeD says:

Brooks Robinson, Scott Rolen and Mike Schmidt? Maybe Buddy Bell.

  53. karcotte says:

Brooks Robinson. No idea after that.

  54. Ivan says:

Boy and I thought Jeter looked shot, Ichiro looks alot worse.

  55. joe says:

    Nettles ?

    • MikeD says:

Nettles only won two, although he should have won more. Robinson was continuing to win them on pure momentum, although in fairness Brooks will still a great thirdbaseman, but Nettles was at least his equal and probably had surpassed him for at least the three prior seasons. ,

Nettles and Bell all crossed with Robinson. Any other time period, Nettles and Bell could have rattled off ten straight gold gloves.

      Robinson, Schmidt and Rolen.

  56. Phide Dawg says:

Brooks Robinson, Mike Schmidt and Scott Rolen? Clete Boyer?

  57. King George says:

    Robinson, Ripken, Schmidt?

  58. Cy Pettitte says:

this is so epic to watch

  59. Xstar7 says:

    12 up, 12 down

  60. Kevin G. says:

    OMG!!!! he JINXED IT!!!!!1!!!!IIII!!!

  61. Greg says:

Got to score a run off Fister to avoid an Andy Hawkins situation.

  62. 1stbase says:

cc broke gameday to much lol

  63. Guest says:

    Jinx alert:

Great pitcher in the prime of his career in the midst of an epic hot street + terrible hitting team in the midst of a historic slump = Pontential memorable pitching performance.

  64. MikeD says:

I HOPE the Yankees can score a run.

Didn’t Fister pitch a good game or two against the Yankees in the past?

  65. CBean says:

Please, some run support for CC.

  66. Pat D says:

    Wow, Curtis.

  67. Karl Krawfid says:

    See Grandy can do that.

  68. Erica says:

  69. Cy Pettitte says:

    wooooooooo Curtis oppo bomb

  70. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

Curtis Granderson is your God now

  71. Nuke LaDoosh says:

maybe all the Big Stoppa needs

  72. Jack Merridew says:

She’s gone! Put these clowns away already.

  73. Mike Axisa says:

That was so fucking sexy. Oppo bomb.

  74. MikeD says:

Wow, not the type of HR I expect from the GrandyMan!

  75. Stratman9652 says:

    That should be enough.

  76. Greg says:

The Grandyman goes opposite field. There’s the run we needed.

  77. Xstar7 says:

Opposite field homer for Grandy? Is that the first time he’s dine that all year?

  78. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

  79. swishers fauxhawk says:

I look forward to another Michael Kay rant about jinxes tomorrow.

  80. CBean says:

  81. Kevin D. says:

Damn, Grandy really just went Oppo Boppo.

  82. Simon says:

    The Grandyman can!

  83. jon says:

    teix with another pop up

  84. Avi says:

Montero singles. Now 2-2 on the night.

  85. Naved says:

Montero with another line drive and he is now 2 for 2. He is heating up.

    • Guest says:

How dare he ruin the narrative.

I think the odds are pretty high that he will be on a MLB roster on Aug. 1.

  86. Guest says:

So…do we think the MSM knows that the Yankees key players aren’t old? In fact, they have a core that’s completely in its prime?

A-Rod and DJ are not the center of this team anymore.
CC, Grandy, Cano, and Tex are.

  87. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

I just saw the same big lightning bolt that Kay did.

If the My9 curse strikes again, I’m gonna be PISSED

  88. Xstar7 says:

    8k’s already!

  89. Guest says:

    42 Strikes. 11 Balls.

    Straight. Gangsta.

  90. Pat D says:

Am I the only one who keeps hearing a noise in the background?

  91. jon says:

  96. Simon says:

    I need to go take a shower….

  97. Jack Merridew says:

    lol, slowroll.

  98. Xstar7 says:

    CC is dominating these motherfuckers.

  99. Pat D says:

    Cervelli just called that strike.

  100. Guest says:

There are so many records in play right now.

  101. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

I bet Eric Wedge hates his job right now.

  102. BigTimeBartolo says:

oh my god oh my god.

    this is freaking AWESOME

  103. Mike Axisa says:

CC Sabathia is better than you.

  104. swishers fauxhawk says:

    Straight. Up. Dealing.

  111. Cuso says:

    Damn, Chi-Chi

  112. CC’s current FIP for this game is -0.87.

  113. Esteban says:

Typical CC padding his Ks against bad offenses.

  114. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

I’d be shocked if we don’t get a rain delay at least.

I’m in uptown Manhattan and I’ve seen 5 or 6 lightning bolts in the last 10 minutes. That bodes poorly.

  115. Alfredo says:

i hate all of you watching this game because unfortunatley i can not watch it. i am very Jealous.

  116. swishers fauxhawk says:

It’s only a matter of time before we start breaking out the Wells and Cone footage.

  117. Dropped Third Superstar says:

  118. Cy Pettitte says:

    fuck you rain, go away.

  119. CBean says:

no come on weather, don’t fuck over CC.

  120. bonestock94 says:

  121. Mykey says:

This is so frustrating that it’s going to rain right now. Ugh!

  122. Xstar7 says:

Please don’t fuck this up for us, Mother Nature.

  123. Chris says:

Montero is 2 for 2 with another double!

  124. Stratman9652 says:

There is a storm rolling in… Its name is CC Sabathia.

  125. Esteban says:

  126. Simon says:

    Shut-up Kay dont ruin anything!

  127. Jack Merridew says:

Everyone wanted to bury Posada again but back he comes. Just staring his hot streak.

  128. Justin says:

Quick! Get the Chinese Olympic anti-rain technology!! Don’t delay this game!! Not with how CC is dealing!

  129. MikeD says:

Thunder now arriving north of the city.

The one perfect game I saw (not like anyone should expect to see one, let alone more than one in person) had a rain delay. David Cone.

  130. Cy Pettitte says:

  131. Xstar7 says:

    Zombie Chavez!

  132. Esteban says:

  133. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

  135. Greg says:

Seattle’s intentionally giving up runs to get CC out.

  136. Bartolo's Colon says:

am the only one who’s pissed that there are no outs yet?

  137. Dropped Third Superstar says:

anyone know how long its supposed to rain?

  138. swishers fauxhawk says:

  142. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

The downpour just started in Washington Heights

Please, please, PLEASE let it roll through quickly

  143. MikeD says:

Tonight: Scattered thunderstorms during the evening. Mainly clear skies after midnight. Gusty winds and small hail are possible. Low near 70F. Winds W at 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 40%.

  144. Phife Dawg says:

There’s a couple of green globs heading right towards the Bronx:

    Uh oh.

  145. Jack Merridew says:

They cannot have a lengthy rain delay during a perfect game. CC’s dealing, let em play through any rain.

  146. Xstar7 says:

Derek Jeter is going to hit a grand slam. You heard it here first folks.

  147. Mykey says:

    Screw it, play through it.

  148. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

From now on, I demand that My9/YES includes a “Posada cam” inset every time Jorge is on the bases.

That replay of him “running” on the Gardner single had me cracking up.

  149. Chip says:

Wow, Posada is the slowest baserunner I’ve seen in some time

  150. Xstar7 says:

Please no rain delay, please no rain delay, please no rain delay

  151. OldYanksFan says:

I undersatnd how you get a name like Goldsmith, or Carpenter, or Plumber…. but HOW do you get named ‘Fister’?

  153. Cy Pettitte says:

    fucking weather.

  154. IRF says:

  167. BigTimeBartolo says:

    Fuck, please resume play soooooon

  168. Frank says:

Unfortunately, I think this delay hurts CC. He’s in a hell of a groove.

    • MikeD says:

Not good, although David Cone said he had better movement on his pitches after the rain delay in his game. Not that I’d be counting on that.

  169. Simon says:

…I’m off to the G.W., any one care to join me?

  170. MikeD says:

This has the feel of a quick storm.

  171. Justin says:

Someone best be playing catch w/ CC in the tunnel. David Cone style.

  172. MikeD says:

Russ Salzberg not as tall as Yogi. Who knew.

  173. King George says:

    Interesting…it’s heating up.

    • Wooderson says:

i love ubaldo but i sooooooo do not wanna give up montero. like…for anyone. except maybe larry–i mean felix

  174. KenC says:

  175. Greg says:

    We need weather updates ASAP.

  176. Monteroisdinero says:

Put this one on the left side. Let’s switch to the SWB game-2 hits and a sac fly for Montero.

Have CC come back on 16 hours rest and pitch for Hughes tomorrow.

    • first time lawng time says:

Hahahaha that would be hilarious if they did that.

Somehow, I have more confidence in CC pitching in 16 hours rest than Hughes pitching.

However, the Mariners are terrible an Hughes had a good start against Toronto, so I have some faith in Hughes keeping the Yankees in the game.

  177. Cy Pettitte says:

    Andrew Miller: nope.

  178. Monteroisdinero says:

    Royals 7 Sux 5

  182. Karl Krawfid says:

    Man fuck life.

    FUCK IT.

  183. Greg says:

    If we lose this game…

    • first time lawng time says:

THEY WILL NOT LOSE THIS GAME, GREG. I promise you.

      • TheLastClown says:

I was hoping he meant if we lose this game, like us commenters, if us commenters lose this magical pitching performance in this game….

I’m not sure what he was alluding to with those ellipses, but CC or no CC, these Mariners don’t look too capable of winning dry hay right now.

        *Oh, it makes sense*

  184. Steve S. says:

    When the lighnin stri-eeeeks
    Caint you hear the thunderaaaahhhh

  185. Naved says:

CC is going to be done for the night.

  186. Stratman9652 says:

Looks like the tarp is coming off.

  187. Greg says:

What I would do is let him go out there, give up a hit and then take him out.

  188. JPHX says:

    Tarps coming off

  189. jon says:

    BryanHoch Estimated re-start time 9 p.m.

  190. Kevin G. says:

I would expect something like this to happen to the Mets, not to us.

  191. Dino Velvet says:

Just saw the commercial for “Moneyball” — it looks terrible.

    • AaronGuielWithASmile says:

If you were Paul DePodesta, how pissed would you be that Billy Beane’s being played by Brad Pitt while you’re being played by Jonah Hill?

  192. Andy says:

More rain just out to the west. I’m surprised they’re taking the tarp off. It’s going to start raining again. Totally sucks.

  193. #24!!!! says:

I’m not sure if I dislike anything more than My9, truly.

  194. Jack Merridew says:

Let’s go, CC. Finish the perfect game.

  195. Chip says:

Whooooooooooo, more CC domination will be had!!

  196. first time lawng time says:

Any chance CC breaks his career high in SO? What about him getting 17+?

  197. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

CC on the bump, viewers thankfully spared from Russ Salzberg’s tour of Jeter’s new house.

    Let’s do this CC!

  198. Justin says:

Come on CC, Mow them down!!

  199. Xstar7 says:

    You got dis, CC.

  200. nick says:

Jesus just went gonzo- three run blast. 3 for 3 tonight, 4 RBI.

  201. mbonzo says:

MONTERO!!!! 10th homerun of the year. He’s hot, please call him up.

  202. They Might Be Giants says:

    When it rains it snows.

  203. Chip says:

    And Montero just went boom

  204. Cy Pettitte says:

eerie similarity to Cone and Cone is in the building tonight.

  205. Stratman9652 says:

I think the rain is just pissing him off.

  206. Avi says:

    Montero 3 run homer!!

  207. Alfredo says:

montero is 3-3 today with a 2B, HR, single, and a sac fly. he has 4 Rbis. this kid is getting hot!

  208. jon says:

    booo strike out streak broken

  209. Karl Krawfid says:

    Montero goes Deep.

    What a day.

  210. Dino Velvet says:

    Oh, fuck, the tension.

  211. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

    What, no more strikeouts?

    This guy sucks.

  212. Xstar7 says:

CC is keeping the dream alive.

  213. TheLastClown says:

  214. Justin says:

Anyone else want the Yanks to go down 1,2,3 every half inning from now until the end of the game??

  215. Sheepmeister says:

I heard it was raining bullets in NYC which makes me think:

Jim: Oh don’t shoot him, you’ll only make him mad.

  216. Kevin D. says:

CC did not strike out the last two batters in that frame. He is clearly not sharp.

  217. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

Yankees trying to speed things along for CC

  218. Greg says:

Good strategy. Get CC back on the mound quickly

  219. Guest says:

    Stop with the rain.

I’ve never been happier to see two outs on two pitches.

Every Yankee hitter needs to swing at the first pitch.

  220. Feim says:

Let’s go Si-Si! You have to get the No-No!

  221. Has there ever been a perfect game with no fly balls?

  222. Jack Merridew says:

With Eduardo Nunez on the bench CC has a great shot at perfection.

  223. Xstar7 says:

C’mon CC! You only have to get through their lineup one more time.

  224. Avi says:

If the Yankees trade Montero for Ubaldo they’ll regret it for the better part of two decades.

    • AaronGuielWithASmile says:

I dunno. Montero is as close to a sure thing as there is at the plate, but if he can’t catch I don’t see where he fits with the Yankees long term.

A-Rod will be a full time DH within a few seasons, and Tex isn’t going anywhere for a while.

    • Steve S. says:

Odds are you’re wrong. Even top 10 prospects only succeed 2/3 of the time, and “success” needs to be defined. For him to be a 2.5 to 4.5 win player, odds are 2-1 against that.

Delmon Young was a huge prospect, and it took him 5 years in the bigs to have 1 good season. Phil Hughes was the #1 pitching prospect in baseball, and his career has been spotty. So was Edwin Jackson, who the Yanks aren’t even interested in. To be fair, lots of stars were also highly rated prospects. But this assumption that Montero is guaranteed success at the MLB level is just foolish.

      • Avi says:

Look at only the following criteria:
Only top 10 prospects who are hitters and have succeeded to montero’s level at triple A at his age and don’t strike out a lot. I bet the odds go way up.

        • Steve S. says:

Sorry, but his SO rate is around 23% this year, and has almost doubled as he’s climbed the ladder from High A.

          • Avi says:

It’s still much lower than other top 10 prospect hitters you busted (such as Brandon Wood). The point is if you look at only the things I listed above I bet the odds are better than 2 out of 3 that Montero succeeds.

            • Steve S. says:

No, you want to muddy the waters until the stats show what you want them to say. It was extensively researched, and those are the facts.

              • Avi says:

Muddy the waters? Are you refferring to me pointing out that Montero isn;t a pitcher and therefore much less likely to bust due to injury. Are you referring to the fact that Montero has succeeded at the highest level of the minors (triple A) when many other top 10 hitters didn’t prior to playing in the majors? I can hear that point a bit on the strikeout rate, but if you go back and look at the top 10 prospects that where hitters you’ll see that many of the ones who busted had high strikeout rates in the minors, higher than Montero’s

  225. a.hinds says:

i should mute my tv, right? because michale k is fucking annoying right now.
    so i should mute it.
but i dont want to jinx it
    did i just jinx it?

  226. mbonzo says:

When your mistakes are swing and misses by hall of fame players you know you’re having a good night.

  227. Cy Pettitte says:

Ichiro looks like he’s trying to hit a piñata at the plate

  228. Cy Pettitte says:

  229. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

Give that man a standing ovation

  230. Ray the Anti-Handle says:

  231. Pat D says:

  232. Greg says:

    I blame John Flaherty

  233. Karl Krawfid says:

    That sucks :(

  234. Jack Merridew says:

Damn, I wanted to see him do it.

  236. xnyles says:

    BOOOO mAN !!!!! FUCK NATURE!!!!!!

  237. Kevin G. says:

Fuck you and your stupid moustache.

  238. Xstar7 says:

    Fuck Brendan Ryan.

It was fun while it lasted.

  239. Bartolo's Colon says:

wasn’t it in the 7th inning one out when hairston booted that ball in baltimore when pettite was going for a perfect game in 2009?

  240. Guest says:

Man, perfect games are hard to do.

The record for most strikeouts in a perfect game is 14. He would have had a shot.

  241. Justin says:

Guess we’ll just have to go back to the boring job of counting K’s.

  242. bonestock94 says:

  243. jon says:

yikes bautista got hit in the head with a pitch

  244. Jeff says:

    //Stand Ovation for CC//

  245. a.hinds says:

im sorry. its not as bad as when i blew game seven against arizona (yeah that was my fault) but still….

  246. Kevin D. says:

Fuck you rain. I will never look at you in the same way.

  247. Dino Velvet says:

    This is all Javy’s fault

  248. mbonzo says:

    Terrible Royals… wtf was that?

  249. jon says:

well if he strikes out every other batter he faces at least he can tie for most strike out all time in a game

  250. tom says:

All right, at this point, we can make it a rain-shortened game if we want.

Splendid performance, but we’ll always wonder if it could have been more.

  251. Stratman9652 says:

Woulda been nice if the ump would have got the fuck out of the way there.

  252. Karl Krawfid says:

    14 ks damn

  253. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

    No perfect game?

That’s fine. 20 strikeouts would be suitably historic.

  254. bonestock94 says:

    14 K’s through 7 is completely absurd

  255. Xstar7 says:

    Career high in K’s.

    Screw this weather, man.

  256. Chip says:

Damn, CC is definitely setting himself up for the Cy Young this season

  257. Bartolo's Colon says:

remember in may or june, everyone was worried because cc’s strikeout rate was low, that doesn’t seem to be a problem anymore

  258. jon says:

    on the bright side?

the yankees just saved themselves an extra 2m a year when they resign him in the offseason

  259. Cy Pettitte says:

14K’s through 7 and only 84 pitches is absurd.

  260. Avi says:

Call me a cynic but I don’t think it’s a coincidence that CC is having a monster season in an opt out year.

  261. Sheepmeister says:

so odds CC strikes out the last 6 for a one hitter and 20 Ks

  262. MikeD says:

He’ll have to strike out every remaining batter to reach 20.

Guidry’s Yankee 18K record is within reach, and if I remember correctly, Guidry’s 18Ks are still the A.L. record for a lefty.

  263. Pat D says:

Would anyone here say that you’re “born a Yankees fan?”

I mean, isn’t that a choice you make?

    • I’d say you make the choice to remain a Yankee fan, but you can certainly be born one. If you’re born into a family of Yankee fans, you tend to become a Yankee fan before you really know what that is.

    • first time lawng time says:

I was born into a family of Yankees fans. I chose to not to be not a Yankee fan.

    • TheLastClown says:

My family’s an all-NY sports fan group.

I didn’t have a choice of what my Dad was watching on TV growing up. Or my Uncles for that matter.

Of course one of my cousins rebelled & became a Tigers fan *Cowboys & Bulls too*

It’s very analogous to religion, in that you have a familial predisposition to something and would need some type of specific stimulus to make a change.

This response might be shallow & pedantic, but I consider myself a ‘born’ Yankees’ fan.

      • Frigidevil says:

Same story here, my dad grew up rooting for those teams so I did too. Only exception is I thought since I lived in New Jersey I should root for the Jersey teams, so I was a Devils and Nets fan instead. Also my grandpa had season tix for the Nets, so that made the ‘betrayal’ easier :P

    • bonestock94 says:

I didn’t make a choice. It was on TV every night and I went to a bunch of games pretty early on. I even got a Mattingly signed ball was I was really young. I was essentially born a fan.

    • MikeD says:

I could have and should have been a Met fan for reasons I won’t go into.

So I think the Dear Lord for Making me a Yankee Fan.

  264. Cy Pettitte says:

    seriously? fuck you rain.

  265. bonestock94 says:

    Oh for fucks sake

  266. Jack Merridew says:

Well with another delay CC may have been done anyway.

  267. Dino Velvet says:

oh well, with this additional rain delay, it wasn’t gonna happen.

  268. Chip says:

O hell, here we go again

  269. Justin says:

oh god, please not another Slap-Chop commercial during this rain delay. That was an insult on top of the delay.

  270. TheLastClown says:

Well at least now we don’t have to have any belly-aching about risking CC’s *or anyone else’s* health by prematurely removing the tarp.

  271. bonestock94 says:

lol, even rain delays are sponsored at NYS

  272. Chip says:

Montero now hitting .292/.351/.446 as a 21 year old catcher in AAA. Time to call that kid up (in 5 days of course)

  273. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

    Well, damn.

Let’s just go Robertson to Rivera and go home with a win.

Please, please don’t make us watch Russ Salzberg do a water tour of Tampa.

  274. mbonzo says:

Michael Kay needs to STFU about trading for Felix Hernandez

  275. TheLastClown says:

    Ok here we go

  276. Cy Pettitte says:

great job by the Royals bullpen

  277. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

    Looks like CC’s coming back.

I’m not crazy about the decision, but I trust Girardi (and I trust CC more.)

  278. Sheepmeister says:

That was the equivalent of like a 20 minute inning for the yanks (14 min delay and 6 min batting), not surprising hes coming back out.

  279. mbonzo says:

More rain, quick rain delay this thing.

  280. Karl Krawfid says:

    Yankees should move to Vegas.

  281. Xstar7 says:

    C’mon CC. CGSO these fuckers.

  282. Greg says:

Now I’d start to warm somebody because he looks like he’s tiring.

  283. Karl Krawfid says:

    Damn CC lost it quick.

  284. Pat D says:

OMG!!!! Girardi’s gonna blow this game.

  285. Xstar7 says:

These two rain delays have really screwed up CC’s groove.

  286. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

OK, time to get Robertson into the game.

I love me some CC, but the Yankees absolutely have to win this game.

  287. Monteroisdinero says:

    No Soriano? It’s the 8th!

  288. tom says:

I hope for the best, but this is shaping up as a big mistake.

  289. Ivan says:

I got confidence in CC. Everything is in good hands.

  290. bonestock94 says:

    Ok, thats enough

  291. Cy Pettitte says:

what the fuck is going on

  292. Esteban says:

  293. tom says:

Is anyone in the dugout watching this?????

  294. Xstar7 says:

Yeah, it looks like throwing CC back out there was a mistake.

    • tom says:

A guy that deep in the game should not be allowed to walk three consecutive men. You can maybe justify the second batter, but the third was insanity.

  295. Greg says:

I blame CC. Know your limits.

    • Monteroisdinero says:

“Every starter wants to stay in there till his arm falls off. I know that. It’s my job to take them out”

      /Joe G

  296. mbonzo says:

Lets put out this fire Drob!

  297. Jack Merridew says:

Joe never should have let CC come back out. Bad managing, well deserved hand for CC.

  298. JohnnyC says:

    Girardi’s a fucking moron.

  299. Karl Krawfid says:

    Man this is horrible.

  300. Dino Velvet says:

    Girardi is an idiot.

  301. V says:

There were at least three pitches in this inning called balls that were strikes earlier in the game.

  302. Monteroisdinero says:

    That sucked.

    “I got this skip”

    Girardi is no Sciosa.

  303. V says:

So glad we have a bunch of people with perfect hindsight on the boards.

  304. YFan says:

After CC walked the first batter, CC should’ve been pulled. What was JG thinking?

  305. Dino Velvet says:

    Fire Girardi.

  306. TheLastClown says:

Is anyone really worried about DRob against this lineup w/ the bases loaded?

Got ‘em right right where we want ‘em.

  307. Russ Salzberg says:

I’m a fake Italian. Bada Bing!

  308. Sheepmeister says:

wow, if you look at brooks baseball strike zone plot, fister got a ton of called strikes outside the zone, may have been a much different game if he hadn’t.

  309. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

It’s OK. K-Rob lives for this.

  310. CBean says:

    Come on, D-Rob.

  311. V says:

    Come on DRob!

  312. Dino Velvet says:

    Girardi = Grady Little

  313. Karl Krawfid says:

This would be the worst loss of the year lol

  314. V says:

Come on DRob! Stop being so cute around the strike zone!

  315. CMP says:

The rain delay turned CC into AJ

  316. Cy Pettitte says:

    Cervelli mini fist pump

  317. mbonzo says:

    Wow 96 from drob

  318. swishers fauxhawk says:

It’s Girardi’s fault for what? CC only sat down for about 20 minutes with that rain delay + half-inning.

Oh right, let’s try to sound smart using hindsight.

  319. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

    Hells yeah D-Rob!

Gotta feel for Seattle, strike 2 was definitely off the plate. That’s 3 calls that have gone pretty clearly against them in the last two games.

  320. TheLastClown says:

    Just two more baby.

  321. Rey22 says:

D Rob flashing the 96′s. Wow

  322. V says:

Oh my god, this umpire is blind.

  323. mbonzo says:

Russell Martin would be getting twice as many strike with D-rob just because he frames pitches.

  324. Cy Pettitte says:

throw strikes, it’s fucking Chone Figgins.

  325. CBean says:

the worst part? i have no cable because Time Warner sucks and i have to listen to this via John and Suzyn on mlb.com

  326. Mike Axisa says:

Oh what the hell, the third pitch was a strike. He didn’t call it because Cervelli had to reach across the plate.

  327. Jack Merridew says:

    Is that Nunez at 3rd?

  328. Monteroisdinero says:

    Wow-if Nuney did that…..

  329. Esteban says:

    Nunez Chavez strikes again.

  330. Cy Pettitte says:

fucking Nunie, probably distracted Chavez from the bench

  331. TheLastClown says:

    Ooooh that could’ve been it.

Got the one though, one more, no worries.

  332. Xstar7 says:

    D-Rob is so awesome.

  333. CBean says:

    I love you D-Rob!

  334. Jack Merridew says:

Masterful job by Robertson. Awful managing by Joe, shut CC down after the 2nd delay.

  335. mbonzo says:

Jesus Drob is amazing. What was up with 95-96? If thats what 1 day off gets you I wonder what’ll happen with a week off.

  336. Ivan says:

    D-Rob is good.

  337. boogie down says:

I know it’s the Mariners, but its great to look up, see the bases loaded, and breathe a sigh of relief b/c Robertson’s on the mound.

  338. first time lawng time says:

CC has 1 hit and 14 SO through 7 innings. Makes sense to put him bak out for the 8th, especially since it was a short delay.

He walks 3 straight, so he’s obiously tired. Girardi pulls him for the best reliever.
Sorry. I hate Girardi, but how can you get mad at him at all this game? He hasn’t done anything mind bogglingly stupid.

  339. TheLastClown says:

    Never worried for a second.

  340. tom says:

Escaped with minimal damage…but I’d still say letting CC stay in for the third walk was needlessly reckless.

  341. Rockstar4Life says:

I’m no Girardi fan, but he did nothing wrong taking out CC. And he went to the exact guy you are suppose. Weren’t people complaining like 2 days ago when Girardi used D-Rob in a non high leverage situation?

    • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

Girardi using Robertson in that situation came a day after Robertson threw a shit ton of a pitches the day before. It was unnecessary. These are the situations Robertson should be used in, regardless of the 6th, 7th, or 8th inning.

  342. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

    That’ll do, K-Rob. That’ll do.

  343. Some Guy says:

I’m very cynical and ambivalent towards this Yankees team.

  344. TheLastClown says:

I don’t know if Mo’s ever been booed anywhere, let alone at home.

  345. Dino Velvet says:

I like how Kay brags about reading the new york times.

  346. Esteban says:

    Sick play. Wow.

  347. Cy Pettitte says:

if only that catch was worth +2 runs

  348. Cy Pettitte says:

    fuckin’ laser.

  349. Esteban says:

    He’s alive!

  350. Greg says:

  351. V says:

Teix and Grandy playing ‘anything you can do, I can do better’

  352. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

    Sexy Texy is on fire

  353. Ivan says:

    Gotta love that short porch.

  354. Xstar7 says:

    Teix massaged that one.

  355. Dino Velvet says:

    too many homers

  356. bonestock94 says:

    No more slump

  357. Esteban says:

    Certainly not a strike.

  358. Cy Pettitte says:

    nice strike zone

  359. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

CC Sabathia was almost perfect tonight.

    Bob Davidson was not.

  360. Xstar7 says:

    Rough day for Cano.

  361. swishers fauxhawk says:

    That’s a let’s go home strike 3.

  362. Chip says:

Ugh, Cano worked a great walk there. Unfortunately Bob is behind the plate

  363. bonestock94 says:

Why was bringing back CC after an 18 minute gap bad? That’s like a decent rally. Tired after 84 pitches? I don’t think that’s a lot…

  364. Xstar7 says:

    Show no mercy, Mo.

  365. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

    Sick cutter. So sexy.

  366. Greg says:

Everybody gets on Girardi way too much. If you want to nitpick, you take CC out with the second walk. But other than that he has done nothing wrong.

    • first time lawng time says:

      He has done nothing wrong…tonight.

      Greg, GAME 3 2009 ALCS!

Also, my mom actually yelled at me a few days ago because I said how I thought girardi was a terrible manager. She got full out legit pissed. Just thought you might enjoy that.

  367. bonestock94 says:

Strike 1 against Olivo was disgusting

  368. AaronGuielWithASmile says:

    Fist pump!

Eric Wedge looks like he wants to cry.

  369. Esteban says:

    Mariano’s ok, everybody.

  370. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

    G’nite, e’rybody.

  371. Jack Merridew says:

Well we won the series. If Phil can’t shut down these clowns put him on the first bus to Scranton.

  372. Bartolo's Colon says:

if the mariners can’t win tomorrow, they may not win another game this season

  373. Karl Krawfid says:

Hughes is gonna get smacked around tomorrow

  374. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

Doug Fister falls to 3-12 with a 3.30 ERA, 3.20 FIP and 3.95 xFIP. Must be fun.
