This looks like a slam sunk, but as you know Suzyn…

    • Greg

      dunk

  • Tom Zig

I wonder how the game thread comments would be if the Yankees had already lost 16 in a row and were facing King Felix.

and Banuelos has struck out 89 batters in 89 innings while giving up exactly 89 hits. Kinda cool.

    • YankeesJunkie

RAB would have been shut down about 10 days ago.

    • CBean

I wonder how the game thread comments would be if the Yankees had already lost 16 in a row and were facing King Felix.

Empty because most of the readership would have already jumped off a bridge.

      • Ivan

I think we all would b watching/listening minor league baseball with the Yankee organization

  • Brooklyn Ed

FACT: On this day, the Nady/Marte traded happened 3 years ago.

  • YankeesJunkie

CC versus an anemic Mariner offense should be delightful to watch especially as there are at least 3 lefties.

  • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

Apparently the Nationals are already comparing Bryce Harper to Jackie Robinson.

    A little batshit, no?

    • Ivan

The comparison makes no sense from a baseball talent stand point and certainly from a historical standpoint.

      • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

        http://www.charged.fm/blog/pos.....e-robinson

They’re not comparing the two talent wise, but in terms of the scrutiny they face.(Harper being extremely highly touted, getting on the cover of SI already, and that enormous signing bonus.)

        Still batshit insane.

        • Ivan

Yes it still is insane, heck its even more insane when you delve into it

A much better comparison would to compare Harper to lets say LeBron James when he was a basketball prospect.

          • Guest

Now, that is an apt comparison. But its been made before, so I guess the Nationals are trying to be different.

        • Guest

It’s actually more batshit insane when you compare them scrutiny wise rather than talent wise.

Talent wise, Jackie robinson was a hall of famer who played the game at an incredibly elite level (albeit for a relatively short burst of time…didn’t break into the majors until he was 28 for some reason…I forget).

It’s ridiculous to compare any 18 year old talent wise to one of the games greats, but if there was any teenager to do that with, it would be Harper. He’s got a ridiculously unusual skillset. Sick, even.

But to compare them scrutiny-wise…GFTO. NOW.

Jackie Robinson underwent more strain or scrutiny than any other athlete has ever had to bear, all while facing untold slings and humilitations from his fellow Major Leaguers, AND with the hopes of an entire race tied to his back. (I’m black, I can speak for the people. It’s cool).

Bryce Harper…yeah, he’s got none of that.

          G…T…F…O.

          NOW.

          • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

            This.

I don’t know what those Nats executives were thinking when they said that.

          • Dropped Third Superstar

            AHMEN

          • Mykey

People like Jackie Robinson, not so much LeBron James at the moment. The Nationals are trying to get people to sympathize with Harper’s position, like one would with Robinson, instead of enjoy it like with James.

        • bonestock94

          That’s pretty much offensive

    • YankeesJunkie

      Bryce Harper=Jackie Robinson with grit

    • pete

it’s batshit crazy and completely random, but the kid did put up a .436 wOBA in A-ball at age eighteen

    • MikeD

I can’t think of a single reason to make that comparison. Forgetting the whole little ol’ color barrie thing he helped to shatter, but they are not similar type of players.

I don’t even want to know why they think that. I just want to marvel over it and let it rattle around in my head for a while just trying to guess why they’d make that comparison. Even if they were similar players, just the idea they picked Jackie Robinson is crazy. Pick any other player but Jackie Robinson!

      • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside the Elder

I’m sure the Nationals comparing Bryce Harper (a.k.a. “Mr. Blow a Kiss to the Opposing Pitcher”) to Jackie Robinson, one of the most important American cultural figures of the 20th century will go over like gangbusters…

… in Washington D.C., “Chocolate City”.

I can’t think of a single reason this would backfire. Full steam ahead, boys.

Romine and Joseph in the lineup. Looks like the “trade” is a no-go. Either it never was a trade or it fell through.

            • Kit

              No problem.

            • David, Jr.

              What trade?

              • CBean

there were assumptions some sort of a trade was in the works when they held Romine out last night.

              • http://yankeesfansunite.wordpress.com Mike D.

Well there was some speculation that with Gary Sanchez, Austin Romine, and Corban Joseph all out of the lineup last night, that a trade was brewing with them as pieces.

I think it’s time to find a new picture for games CC pitches

  • MikeD

What’s this? YES is about to talk about CC and WAR, and no David Cone in site?

    Hell = skating pond.

  • Ivan

I can never in a million years imagine the yankees losing 16 straight games. Can you imagine Yankee fans reaction if that were to happen.

I can see it now Mike Axisa game thread post would say:

“The Yankees will have a lead in the 8th/9th inning when it is all send and done”

    (Shivers)

    • God

You have tempted me. I will now let you see it happen.

  • StanfordBen

Vegas has the Yanks as approximately 75% favorites. I say this to point out that people shouldn’t go completely insane if the Yanks lose, for the same reason you shouldn’t go completely insane if you lose two consecutive hands of blackjack (around same probability).

  • #24!!!!

Woah! Bob Lorenz just said WAR and sabermetrics. Interesting…

    • http://yankeesfansunite.wordpress.com Mike D.

As long as he doesn’t say UZR the world will survive.

  • http://bleedingyankeeblue.com Jesse

If the Yankees lose this game, I’ll cry.
CC Sabathia should pitch a complete game shutout in this one, no doubt.
Fister is good, but he’s no CC or Justin Verlander.
And the sawx have a weakened lineup tonight with no Kevin Useless or Jacoby Dingleberry.
I smell the Yankees closing the gap to just 1 after tonight.

  • RichYF

@twitter conversation about WW. As a 27 year old, the whole idea of generalizing “twenty-somethings” as “10 year olds with walkie-talkies” and saying “I’m an adult in the real world and have big boy things to be worried about” offends me. Then I realize what quite a few of the 45+ year olds at work call me..

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

I didn’t see the WW post but I saw the Twitter conversation. Resorting to call people “ten year olds with walkie-talkies” just says that Steve is in over his head.

  • OldYanksFan

Losing 16 games in a row seems statistically almost impossible. When you consider the M’s #1 and #2 pitchers, it’s quite unbelievable.

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

The Mariners were essentially a .500 team before the streak, so the odds of a .500 ballclub losing 16 games in a row is 0.00153%, or one in 65,536. Unless my math is wrong, which it might be (just 0.500^16).

  • Greg

The Nats have just picked up Jonny Gomes from the Reds.

  • Sheepmeister

I would really love a cash ninja trade for a number 2 starter. I know he can’t make other GMs do that, but I would love to see someone no one thinks is available (ie billingsly or kershaw) and just snatch them out off the trade market and the first think you hear about it is that the trade is already done.

    • http://yankeesfansunite.wordpress.com Mike D.

He will…have faith in the Cash-Man.

  • Nuke LaDoosh

David Sims and Mike Blowers…should be interesting.

  • Karl Krawfid

    Keep it going CC

  • Bronx Byte

How significant would signing Cliff Lee for heavy $$$$ have been ?
    He’s 9-7 with a 3.06 ERA

Freddy Garcia is 9-7 with a 3.23 ERA

Bartolo Colon is 7-6 with a 3.29 ERA

    Yep !

  • Will (the other one)

Fun fact: CC is currently on pace to throw a 27-pitch perfect game.

    #themoreyouknow

  • Nuke LaDoosh

OMG what an inning for CC

  • bonestock94

Thanks for making me download a completely worthless 700 MB update, Apple.

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

    I don’t think CC broke a sweat.

  • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

7 pitch first inning for CC. I can taste the CGSO already.

    • Nuke LaDoosh

      7 strikes

      • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

CC is going to eat this Mariners offense alive. And not just figuratively.

  • nick

Montero just belted a double a shade to left-center-field off of Pat Misch in Buffalo, hit it so hard Golson couldn’t score from 1st.

    • Phife Dawg

Im gonna guess and say that it was a rather *boring* double?

    • Monteroisdinero

Great. Now what was the pitch type and pitch count? The Golson info says it all. That ball was smoked.

      • nick

I wanna say it was an off-speed pitch, it was low and in from the LHP Misch.

  • Joel

@ the SWB game and Montero just ripped a Double to Center.. Unfortunately my iPhone camera is cracked -_-

  • Joel

@ the SWB game and Montero just ripped a Double to Center.. Unfortunately my iPhone camera is cracked.. For Shame..

  • baravelli

Seriously, I give CC a solid 10% chance of throwing a no-hitter tonight. Does that sound about right?

    • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside the Elder

He could throw the first -1 hitter in MLB history.

    • MikeD

      No.

  • MikeD

Jeter slow on picking up that pitch. He’s old.

    • Greg

Might have been looking for something else.

      • MikeD

I wasn’t being serious. It was in response to what Paulie was saying on TV.

  • Greg

Curtis has got to cut down on his k’s

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Not really, that’s just who he is. There’s very little correlation between strikeouts and offensive production. An out’s an out.

      • Greg

That’s the same thing I say about Robbie Cano and hs agressiveness. That’s who he is.

        • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Well that’s different because Cano gets himself out on bad pitches. Granderson walks a lot and works deep counts (leads the league in pitches per plate appearance), strikeouts are a byproduct.

  • Greg

    They are swinging at everything.

    • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

      The Mariners or Yankees?

      • Greg

        The M’s

  • Ivan

Not even the 2003 Tigers lost 16 consecutive games.

  • Karl Krawfid

Change up away. Do it CC.

    • Ivan

Or he can smoke him with 95 MPH Heat.

    • Greg

With the exception of Smoak, all of the M’s look like they have a train to catch. Exploit that.

The price on Jimenez hasn’t dropped at all, writes ESPN’s Jayson Stark. He says the Rockies require “three sure-thing young players, including one pitcher who goes into their rotation immediately.”

Sounds like 1 but not 2 of the B’s along with Montero and Nova would be good to get it done.

    • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

      Their trade proposal sucks.

      • vin

        nice.

    • MikeD

Sorry, Mike, but I’m gonna ruin a bit of your DoTF.

    DBJ went 4 for 4 with 1 2B today.

He’s now hitting .333/.470/.510 on the season.

I didn’t think such a “bad” draft pick would be doing so well at his first shot at the pros.

    • MikeD

He had another four hit game? Man is sizzling.

The one part of his game, which was the given, was HR power, yet that hasn’t shown up yet.

      • Pat D

I always thought that HR power was the last thing to show up in pro ball.

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

  • first time lawng time

Question for you all: how do you argue with someone that picthing to the score is dumb and that pitchers don’t (or shouldn’t) do it?

    • bonestock94

      Stop arguing on the internets

      • first time lawng time

I’m arguing with someone in real life.

        • bonestock94

          Oh, carry on then

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

A pitcher’s job is to prevent runs. Pitching to the score implies that he’s willing to give up runs for outs.

      • first time lawng time

But this person says that when your team is up 4 runs, the pitcher isn’t going to be fancy and pitch on the corners; he will just go straight at hitters, which is why CC’s ERA was higher than Felix’s last year.

How do you even respond to that?

        • bonestock94

If CC pitches lazier his value drops. He takes time and money off of contracts/extensions. There are a many many factors determining ERA including talent, park factors, and quality of opposition.

    • MikeD

You hanging out with Jon Heyman as he’s filling out his HOF ballot?

  • http://www.yankeeanalysts.com/ Steve S.

Reds deal Gomes, call up (1B) Alonso…..is that a deal I smell cookin?

    • King George

If there is a deal that includes Alonso, Ubaldo won’t be a Yankee.

      • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Nah, Montero’s better than Alonso. Mesoraco would put the Reds over the top.

        • http://www.yankeeanalysts.com/ Steve S.

Montero was rated ahead of Smoak, but Jack Z didn’t think so.

  • MikeD

Brooks Robinson, Scott Rolen and Mike Schmidt? Maybe Buddy Bell.

    • Ivan

      What was the question?

      • http://twitter.com/karcotte karcotte

6 or more gold gloves at 3b. Other than Chavez.

      • Greg

Eric Chavez has 6 GG’s at third. What three third basemen have more?

    • AaronGuielWithASmile

Those 3 names sound pretty right to me

  • http://twitter.com/karcotte karcotte

Brooks Robinson. No idea after that.

  • Ivan

Boy and I thought Jeter looked shot, Ichiro looks alot worse.

  • joe

    Nettles ?

    • MikeD

Nettles only won two, although he should have won more. Robinson was continuing to win them on pure momentum, although in fairness Brooks will still a great thirdbaseman, but Nettles was at least his equal and probably had surpassed him for at least the three prior seasons. ,

Nettles and Bell all crossed with Robinson. Any other time period, Nettles and Bell could have rattled off ten straight gold gloves.

      Robinson, Schmidt and Rolen.

  • Phide Dawg

Brooks Robinson, Mike Schmidt and Scott Rolen? Clete Boyer?

How dare he ruin the narrative.

I think the odds are pretty high that he will be on a MLB roster on Aug. 1.

  • Guest

So…do we think the MSM knows that the Yankees key players aren’t old? In fact, they have a core that’s completely in its prime?

A-Rod and DJ are not the center of this team anymore.
CC, Grandy, Cano, and Tex are.

    • Esteban

But that’s not as good of a storyline and what is the MSM without its storylines?

      • Pat D

Guys in decent suits that make more money than you and me?

    • Jack Merridew

Because while A-Rod and Jeter are not the core talent on the field they are still viewed as the face of the team. Jeter is the captain. You could even throw in Posada and Mo as who people view as the face of the team. Only Mo is still at the top of his game.

      • Guest

I feel like the face of the team should shift with the production on the field.

When I think of the 2011 Yanks, I think of CC, Grandy, Tex, and Cano.

        They are the 2011 Yankees.

Jeter and A-Rod are all-time greats, but I don’t think they should be the face of this team. (I will concede that whether they should or should not be, they are).

        • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside the Elder

I’d quibble that ARod is still part of the core/face/heart/whatever you want to call it of this team.

Jeter may be drifting into the twilight, but ARod is still the cleanup hitter. Cleanup hitters are part of the face of your team by rule.

          • Sweet Dick Willie

Miguel Olivo (and his .255 OBP) is batting cleanup for the Mariners tonight.

            Why, I have no idea.

            • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside the Elder

The face of the Mariners is Jay Buhner.

              Still.

          • Guest

Yeah, I think this is a fair quibble. There isn’t much day light between A-Rod and Cano’s performance (A-Rod has actually been a little better), but Cano is a much safer bet to be the healthy day to day rock, so I give him the edge there.

The point was more to highlight the fallacy of the “Yankees are old and creaky, look at A-Rod and Jeter!” argument.

Jeter and A-Rod maybe old and creaky, but they have have a lot of help.

  • AaronGuielWithASmile

“Except for wider concourses, bigger bathrooms, better food selections, wider seats, more money to pump into the team on the field…”

The concourses are still always congested, there are always lines going into the bathrooms, the food rocks and the seats and wider and more comfortable.
So a brand new $1.5 Billion place for better food and wider seats. Gimme the old place all day.

            • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside the Elder

Gimme the new place with its expanded luxury boxes and premium seats and new revenue streams that will pay for the future ARods and Texes and CCs and Riveras and Sorianos.

          • Avi

The only problems with the old place was:
            1. No Parking (not enough)
            2. Lack of a retractable roof
            3. Terrible traffic
The new stadium didn’t remedy any of this.

            • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside the Elder

That, and the place was starting to fall apart because it was old as shit. There’s that, too.

Why build a new stadium if you’re not gonna put a retractable dome on it.

A.) Because the stadium cost 1.2B without the roof, meaning it would have cost about 2B with the roof, and there’s no way in hell a 2B stadium gets built anytime soon
B.) Because retractable roofs are pretty fugly, and YS3?s frieze looks ten-jillion times sweeter than anything at Miller Park

Hahahaha that would be hilarious if they did that.

Somehow, I have more confidence in CC pitching in 16 hours rest than Hughes pitching.

      • Greg

        • TheLastClown

Right, but why take him out after the 1st hit?

CC’s one of the most durable pitchers I’ve ever seen.

Even if he reliquishes the nono/PG, he’s still got a damn low pitch count.

If he’s somehow suddenly wild etc., sure, but otherwise you don’t eff with CC.

    • MikeD

If it’s a short delay, all they need to do is have him keep warm and throw pitches below the Stadium. They have a full pitcher’s mound down there.

  • Jack Merridew

    • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside the Elder

He can’t just have a regular perfecto, though, he needs to end it with back-to-back strikeouts of Halman and Figgins, so he can have struck out all 9 Mariners at least once.

      • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

I like the sound of that.

  • Avi

If the Yankees trade Montero for Ubaldo they’ll regret it for the better part of two decades.

    • AaronGuielWithASmile

I dunno. Montero is as close to a sure thing as there is at the plate, but if he can’t catch I don’t see where he fits with the Yankees long term.

A-Rod will be a full time DH within a few seasons, and Tex isn’t going anywhere for a while.

      • Avi

Worry about Arod becoming a DH when he actually needs to. It’ll probably be years.

      • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside the Elder

A-Rod will be a full time DH within a few seasons,

Derek Jeter will have to get moved off of shortstop in the next few years.

        Sincerely,
        A few years ago

      • Guest

The injuries give me pause, but we should note that A-Rod has had a GREAT season defensively. His best in years.

    • http://www.yankeeanalysts.com/ Steve S.

      http://www.royalsreview.com/20.....-prospects

Odds are you’re wrong. Even top 10 prospects only succeed 2/3 of the time, and “success” needs to be defined. For him to be a 2.5 to 4.5 win player, odds are 2-1 against that.

Delmon Young was a huge prospect, and it took him 5 years in the bigs to have 1 good season. Phil Hughes was the #1 pitching prospect in baseball, and his career has been spotty. So was Edwin Jackson, who the Yanks aren’t even interested in. To be fair, lots of stars were also highly rated prospects. But this assumption that Montero is guaranteed success at the MLB level is just foolish.

      • Avi

Look at only the following criteria:
Only top 10 prospects who are hitters and have succeeded to montero’s level at triple A at his age and don’t strike out a lot. I bet the odds go way up.

        • http://www.yankeeanalysts.com/ Steve S.

Sorry, but his SO rate is around 23% this year, and has almost doubled as he’s climbed the ladder from High A.

          • Avi

It’s still much lower than other top 10 prospect hitters you busted (such as Brandon Wood). The point is if you look at only the things I listed above I bet the odds are better than 2 out of 3 that Montero succeeds.

            • http://www.yankeeanalysts.com/ Steve S.

No, you want to muddy the waters until the stats show what you want them to say. It was extensively researched, and those are the facts.

              • Avi

Muddy the waters? Are you refferring to me pointing out that Montero isn;t a pitcher and therefore much less likely to bust due to injury. Are you referring to the fact that Montero has succeeded at the highest level of the minors (triple A) when many other top 10 hitters didn’t prior to playing in the majors? I can hear that point a bit on the strikeout rate, but if you go back and look at the top 10 prospects that where hitters you’ll see that many of the ones who busted had high strikeout rates in the minors, higher than Montero’s

wasn’t it in the 7th inning one out when hairston booted that ball in baltimore when pettite was going for a perfect game in 2009?

  • Guest

Man, perfect games are hard to do.

The record for most strikeouts in a perfect game is 14. He would have had a shot.

Guess we’ll just have to go back to the boring job of counting K’s.

    Terrible Royals… wtf was that?

    • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside the Elder

Who the hell are the Royals? The Yankees are playing the Mariners tonight, friend.

      • mbonzo

Open thread. Royals looked worse than Buffalo fielding tonight.

  • jon

well if he strikes out every other batter he faces at least he can tie for most strike out all time in a game

  • tom

All right, at this point, we can make it a rain-shortened game if we want.

Splendid performance, but we’ll always wonder if it could have been more.

  • http://twitter.com/#!/Paddock9652 Stratman9652

  • Karl Krawfid

    14 ks damn

  • AaronGuielWithASmile

    No perfect game?

That’s fine. 20 strikeouts would be suitably historic.

  • bonestock94

    14 K’s through 7 is completely absurd

    • Marcus

Not to mention only 84 pitches so far. Yowza.

    • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside the Elder

      And only 84 pitches.

FIP is back down under -1.

      • Esteban

        What a bum.

  • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

    Career high in K’s.

    Screw this weather, man.

  • Chip

Damn, CC is definitely setting himself up for the Cy Young this season

  • Bartolo’s Colon

remember in may or june, everyone was worried because cc’s strikeout rate was low, that doesn’t seem to be a problem anymore

  • jon

    on the bright side?

the yankees just saved themselves an extra 2m a year when they resign him in the offseason

  • Cy Pettitte

14K’s through 7 and only 84 pitches is absurd.

  • Avi

Call me a cynic but I don’t think it’s a coincidence that CC is having a monster season in an opt out year.

    • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside the Elder

      You’re a cynic, Avi.

      • CUYanks

He’s had a few other good years too.

        • mbonzo

He pretty much has a monster season every year.

        • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside the Elder

Seriously, as long as CC’s 2011 wasn’t some kind of massive regression that would make you worry his decline was already starting, he was still going to get paid a fat extension of extra SteinBucks after opting out this winter.

CC didn’t need to have a career year in 2011 to get more money from the Yankees, he just needed to avoid having a career WORST year.

      • Avi

Not that I hold it against him. I’m a big believer in the “contract year” (haven’t researched if there’s actually a correlation). Money is a big motivator.

        • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside the Elder

I’m a big believer in the “contract year” (haven’t researched if there’s actually a correlation).

Others have researched it; they’ve found pretty much no correlation.

          http://www.forbes.com/2010/04/.....eball.html

          • Avi

            I’ll read it.

          • http://www.yankeeanalysts.com/ Steve S.

He said “believer”. He also believes in unicorns

  • Sheepmeister

so odds CC strikes out the last 6 for a one hitter and 20 Ks

  • MikeD

He’ll have to strike out every remaining batter to reach 20.

Guidry’s Yankee 18K record is within reach, and if I remember correctly, Guidry’s 18Ks are still the A.L. record for a lefty.

    • MikeD

And I do not remember correctly. Randy Johnson twice did 19 with the Mariners.

  • Pat D

Would anyone here say that you’re “born a Yankees fan?”

I mean, isn’t that a choice you make?

    • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside the Elder

I’d say you make the choice to remain a Yankee fan, but you can certainly be born one. If you’re born into a family of Yankee fans, you tend to become a Yankee fan before you really know what that is.

      http://store.theonion.com/prod.....eliefs,27/

    • first time lawng time

I was born into a family of Yankees fans. I chose to not to be not a Yankee fan.

      • http://twitter.com/#!/Paddock9652 Stratman9652

That’s like a triple negative right there.

    • TheLastClown

My family’s an all-NY sports fan group.

      Yanks/Knicks/Giants/Rangers.

I didn’t have a choice of what my Dad was watching on TV growing up. Or my Uncles for that matter.

Of course one of my cousins rebelled & became a Tigers fan *Cowboys & Bulls too*

It’s very analogous to religion, in that you have a familial predisposition to something and would need some type of specific stimulus to make a change.

This response might be shallow & pedantic, but I consider myself a ‘born’ Yankees’ fan.

      • Frigidevil

Same story here, my dad grew up rooting for those teams so I did too. Only exception is I thought since I lived in New Jersey I should root for the Jersey teams, so I was a Devils and Nets fan instead. Also my grandpa had season tix for the Nets, so that made the ‘betrayal’ easier :P

    • bonestock94

I didn’t make a choice. It was on TV every night and I went to a bunch of games pretty early on. I even got a Mattingly signed ball was I was really young. I was essentially born a fan.

    • MikeD

I could have and should have been a Met fan for reasons I won’t go into.

So I think the Dear Lord for Making me a Yankee Fan.

      /dimaggio’d

      • MikeD

        thank

  • Cy Pettitte

    seriously? fuck you rain.

  • bonestock94

    Oh for fucks sake

  • Jack Merridew

Well with another delay CC may have been done anyway.

  • Dino Velvet

oh well, with this additional rain delay, it wasn’t gonna happen.

  • Chip

O hell, here we go again

  • Justin

oh god, please not another Slap-Chop commercial during this rain delay. That was an insult on top of the delay.

    • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside the Elder

Justin, you’re gonna love my nuts.

  • TheLastClown

Well at least now we don’t have to have any belly-aching about risking CC’s *or anyone else’s* health by prematurely removing the tarp.

  • bonestock94

lol, even rain delays are sponsored at NYS

  • Chip

Montero now hitting .292/.351/.446 as a 21 year old catcher in AAA. Time to call that kid up (in 5 days of course)

    • MikeD

He’ll be up in the Majors before next Monday; unfortunately, it’ll be in a Rockies uniform.

      I hope I’m kidding.

    • bonestock94

This might be that hot streak we’ve all been dying for. If he keeps it up it has to happen.

      • Chip

Maybe he is the new Tex and he doesn’t start hitting until July

    • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside the Elder

        Stalling Jesus can’t be good

  • AaronGuielWithASmile

    Well, damn.

Let’s just go Robertson to Rivera and go home with a win.

Please, please don’t make us watch Russ Salzberg do a water tour of Tampa.

  • mbonzo

Michael Kay needs to STFU about trading for Felix Hernandez

  • TheLastClown

    Ok here we go

  • Cy Pettitte

great job by the Royals bullpen

    • Greg

What honestly did you expect? Be happy they got one.

    • mbonzo

I was laughing at their defense. It was pretty much 3 errors in a row on one play.

  • AaronGuielWithASmile

    Looks like CC’s coming back.

I’m not crazy about the decision, but I trust Girardi (and I trust CC more.)

    • tom

Think maybe if Robertson were readily available the decision would have been different?

  • Sheepmeister

That was the equivalent of like a 20 minute inning for the yanks (14 min delay and 6 min batting), not surprising hes coming back out.

  • mbonzo

More rain, quick rain delay this thing.

  • Karl Krawfid

    Yankees should move to Vegas.

  • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

    C’mon CC. CGSO these fuckers.

  • Greg

Now I’d start to warm somebody because he looks like he’s tiring.

    • mbonzo

Yup, get Robertson up to put out the fire.

  • Karl Krawfid

    Damn CC lost it quick.

  • Pat D

OMG!!!! Girardi’s gonna blow this game.

  • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

These two rain delays have really screwed up CC’s groove.

  • AaronGuielWithASmile

OK, time to get Robertson into the game.

I love me some CC, but the Yankees absolutely have to win this game.

  • Monteroisdinero

    No Soriano? It’s the 8th!

    • mbonzo

      He’s not on the team.

      • Monteroisdinero

My bad. They are “acquiring” him tomorrow I guess.

  • tom

I hope for the best, but this is shaping up as a big mistake.

  • Ivan

I got confidence in CC. Everything is in good hands.

  • bonestock94

    Ok, thats enough

  • Cy Pettitte

what the fuck is going on

  • Esteban

    MASS PANIC.

  • tom

Is anyone in the dugout watching this?????

  • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

Yeah, it looks like throwing CC back out there was a mistake.

    • tom

A guy that deep in the game should not be allowed to walk three consecutive men. You can maybe justify the second batter, but the third was insanity.

  • Greg

I blame CC. Know your limits.

    • Monteroisdinero

“Every starter wants to stay in there till his arm falls off. I know that. It’s my job to take them out”

      /Joe G

      • Greg

He was at 84 pitches. Does that make your arm fall off. If he was at 105 I would agree with you.

  • mbonzo

Lets put out this fire Drob!

  • Jack Merridew

Joe never should have let CC come back out. Bad managing, well deserved hand for CC.

    • bonestock94

84 pitches with an 18 minute gap, nothing insane. That’s on CC I think.

  • JohnnyC

    Girardi’s a fucking moron.

    • Greg

      You’re a moron. Nitpicker.

      • JohnnyC

Considering some of your posts here, you’re the last one to call anyone a moron, junior.

  • Karl Krawfid

    Man this is horrible.

  • Dino Velvet

    Girardi is an idiot.

  • V

There were at least three pitches in this inning called balls that were strikes earlier in the game.

  • Monteroisdinero

    That sucked.

    “I got this skip”

    Girardi is no Sciosa.

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

      Girardi is no Sciosa.

      Thank GOD.

    • Esteban

      What does that mean?

      • Monteroisdinero

Referring to Lackey a few years back begging Sciosa on the mound to leave him in against the Yanks.

  • Dino Velvet

    • Greg

      Shut up.

Is anyone really worried about DRob against this lineup w/ the bases loaded?

Got ‘em right right where we want ‘em.

  • Russ Salzberg

I’m a fake Italian. Bada Bing!

  • Sheepmeister

wow, if you look at brooks baseball strike zone plot, fister got a ton of called strikes outside the zone, may have been a much different game if he hadn’t.

  • AaronGuielWithASmile

It’s OK. K-Rob lives for this.

  • CBean

    Come on, D-Rob.

  • V

    Come on DRob!

  • Dino Velvet

    Girardi = Grady Little

    • Pat D

      Not even remotely applicable.

  • Karl Krawfid

This would be the worst loss of the year lol

  • V

Come on DRob! Stop being so cute around the strike zone!

  • CMP

The rain delay turned CC into AJ

  • Cy Pettitte

    Cervelli mini fist pump

  • mbonzo

    Wow 96 from drob

  • swishers fauxhawk

It’s Girardi’s fault for what? CC only sat down for about 20 minutes with that rain delay + half-inning.

Oh right, let’s try to sound smart using hindsight.

  • AaronGuielWithASmile

    Hells yeah D-Rob!

Gotta feel for Seattle, strike 2 was definitely off the plate. That’s 3 calls that have gone pretty clearly against them in the last two games.

  • TheLastClown

    Just two more baby.

  • Rey22

D Rob flashing the 96’s. Wow

  • V

Oh my god, this umpire is blind.

    • bonestock94

Thankfully. If I’m a Mariner I get ejected and try to light a fire.

  • mbonzo

Russell Martin would be getting twice as many strike with D-rob just because he frames pitches.

  • Cy Pettitte

throw strikes, it’s fucking Chone Figgins.

  • CBean

the worst part? i have no cable because Time Warner sucks and i have to listen to this via John and Suzyn on mlb.com

    • Dino Velvet

what do you use for internet connection, dial-up?

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Oh what the hell, the third pitch was a strike. He didn’t call it because Cervelli had to reach across the plate.

    • Pat D

      That’s what I thought.

  • Jack Merridew

    Is that Nunez at 3rd?

  • Monteroisdinero

    Wow-if Nuney did that…..

  • Esteban

    Nunez Chavez strikes again.

  • Cy Pettitte

fucking Nunie, probably distracted Chavez from the bench

  • TheLastClown

    Ooooh that could’ve been it.

Got the one though, one more, no worries.

  • http://johnsterling.blogspot.com/ Xstar7

    D-Rob is so awesome.

  • CBean

    I love you D-Rob!

  • Jack Merridew

Masterful job by Robertson. Awful managing by Joe, shut CC down after the 2nd delay.

    • CBean

I wonder how much of it was concern over how many pitches D-Rob threw the other day and not wanting to use him unless he absolutely had to.

      • Greg

        That too.

  • mbonzo

Jesus Drob is amazing. What was up with 95-96? If thats what 1 day off gets you I wonder what’ll happen with a week off.

  • Ivan

    D-Rob is good.

  • boogie down

I know it’s the Mariners, but its great to look up, see the bases loaded, and breathe a sigh of relief b/c Robertson’s on the mound.

  • first time lawng time

CC has 1 hit and 14 SO through 7 innings. Makes sense to put him bak out for the 8th, especially since it was a short delay.

He walks 3 straight, so he’s obiously tired. Girardi pulls him for the best reliever.
Sorry. I hate Girardi, but how can you get mad at him at all this game? He hasn’t done anything mind bogglingly stupid.

    • Pat D

I would’ve yanked him after the second walk.

      • tom

To me that was completely obvious. CC wasn’t the same pitcher he’d been the previous inning, let alone before the first rain. Why would you push it till the tying run was on base?

DRob making it moot is nice, but I still think it’s a clear question to ask Joe later tonight.

      • first time lawng time

Alright, that’s understandable. But it’s also ubderstandble tower if CC can get GIDP or something.

        • first time lawng time

That should be to see not tower.

    • Greg

      THANK YOU

  • TheLastClown

    Never worried for a second.

  • tom

Escaped with minimal damage…but I’d still say letting CC stay in for the third walk was needlessly reckless.

  • Rockstar4Life

I’m no Girardi fan, but he did nothing wrong taking out CC. And he went to the exact guy you are suppose. Weren’t people complaining like 2 days ago when Girardi used D-Rob in a non high leverage situation?

    • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

Girardi using Robertson in that situation came a day after Robertson threw a shit ton of a pitches the day before. It was unnecessary. These are the situations Robertson should be used in, regardless of the 6th, 7th, or 8th inning.

  • AaronGuielWithASmile

    That’ll do, K-Rob. That’ll do.

  • Some Guy

I’m very cynical and ambivalent towards this Yankees team.

  • Chip

Ugh, Cano worked a great walk there. Unfortunately Bob is behind the plate

  • bonestock94

Why was bringing back CC after an 18 minute gap bad? That’s like a decent rally. Tired after 84 pitches? I don’t think that’s a lot…

    Show no mercy, Mo.

  • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

      He has done nothing wrong…tonight.

      Greg, GAME 3 2009 ALCS!
