Game 129: Hurricane A.J.

By

Q: What will do more damage this weekend, A.J. Burnett‘s start or Hurricane Irene?

Hurricane A.J. will hit the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions of the country just ahead of Hurricane Irene, as Burnett takes the mound tonight against the Orioles. We’re living through a little déjá vu with Burnett right now. He’s tanking in August, with no signs of recovery on the horizon. This won’t be his last one, either; he’s the only one who will be on proper rest to face Boston on Wednesday.

Lineup:

1. Derek Jeter, SS
2. Curtis Granderson, CF
3. Mark Teixeira, 1B
4. Alex Rodriguez, 3B
5. Robinson Cano, 2B
6. Nick Swisher, RF
7. Jorge Posada, DH
8. Russell Martin, C
9. Brett Gardner, LF

And on the mound, number thirty-four, A.J. Burnett.

  • A-Rod’s Wingman

I’m bracing myself for a lost, that tends to be the outcome more often than not with this hunk of shit on the mound.

  • Cy Pettitte

this would be a good night for one of those fabled AJ Burnett 2 hit shutouts.

    • A-Rod’s Wingman

I’d settle for a two hit shutout first inning.

      • FIPster Doofus

        hahaha

  • Bronx Byte

The Yankees will need more runs than they scored yesterday to keep ahead of the damage Burnett will allow.
Girardi should remove him the first time a runner is on base.

  • A-Rod’s Wingman

They should let Noesi take this asshole’s spot once or twice in September.

    • Dale Mohorcic

      hey hey.

      no need to insult assholes.

      • Jimmy McNulty

I don’t care about AJ Burnett’s feelings and neither should you.

  • Cuso

Number 34 on your program, Number __ in your heart.

    (anyone?)

    • mike c

49, we’ll always have that WS game 2

      • Nuke LaDoosh

We’ll also always have 8/7/09 start against Beckett and the Sawx. That was the amazingly pitched game that went to 14 or 15 innings and Arod won it with a Walk Off HR. That was the game where the Yanks made the new home really HOME.

        • Cuso

          my favorite game that year.

love the look on junichi tazawa’s face, too

        • Kiko Jones

That was also my fave game of the ’09 regular season. (What a series, btw!) When I need cheering up one of the clips I go back to is of the A-Rod HR.

  • A-Rod’s Wingman

If AJ gets the start against Boston an AJ/Lackey match up might cause the universe to collapse under a vortex of suck.

    • Cuso

      The suck vortex.

That place is hoppin’ in Amsterdam’s red light district.

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

What about coming back from a 7-1 deficit? that was pretty cool.

  • virginia yankee

It is OBVIOUS THE BRAIN TRUST TAKES NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR ACTUALLY IMPROVING THE TEAM – Coffee Joe is not going to embarrass a “gamer” a veteran and all around Nice Guy like AJ — it doesn’t matter that A.J. is nearly unhittable when he stays closed and crap when he flies open — run all the tape you want, his balance and finish demonstrate quite clearly the results. We assume his pitching coaches KNOW and HE knows – so if he refuses to execute or CAN”T, then tough SIT — BUT not Our Brain Trust — they have decided 1st or 2nd in the division is playoffs, and losing with AJ doesn’t close either position — no thought about team chemistry, belief we can win every time out, pressure on the guy before and after him TO MUST WIN, or Bull Pen use to clean up the mess, understanding by YOUNG PLAYERS that PERFORMANCE is the MAIN ARBITER of playing time, or a TRADE or Call-up to ADD a WINNER as opposed to a pitcher–
Geez go get Weaver, or Vasquz, or LaPoint back –

    • FIPster Doofus

      Wow…

    • Cuso

      What the hell just happened?

AJ hasn’t even thrown a pitch yet. Normally we get this diatribe with the first earned run….

      Early night, I guess

      • Bob Stone

Turns out that all the doomsayers were right.

    • Phife Dawg

      Crazy person is crazy.

      • JonS

        Was he now?

  • Gonzo

I love Bob Dylan. Great song, great album, great career.

    • http://twitter.com/johnSC2000 JohnnyC

Dylan one of rock music’s pillars of true greatness. However, would’ve been nice if he hadn’t chain-smoked 80 cigs a day for decades. Might still be able to actually kind of sing.

      • Gonzo

I remember hearing a rumor that his voice was shot after the Rolling Thunder tour. All the coke and performing had done him in after that supposedly.

I used to have a bootleg CD from that tour. He really did let it all out.

      • Sweet Dick Willie

Might still be able to actually kind of sing.

        Wait. When could he sing?

He was a generational talent as a songwriter/poet, but a singer? Eh, not so much.

        • Rainbow Connection

LOL at dumb sports fans passing judgement on artists.

          • nsalem

For all you know some of the “dumb sports fans” on this site may be prominent artists. Though a big fan, i never thought Dylan sang particularly well. However there were several live performances where he did sing with clarity, range and attentiveness that he usually did exhibit throughout his career. HIs 1964 Town Hall performance (which I believe is available on CD) and singing on certain songs on Nashville Skyline (check out One More Night) would be a couple of the good examples. I think he is an incredible artist who will still be relevant hundeds of years from now.

            • nsalem

meant usually did not exhibit throughout his career

              • Bob Stone

I totally agree as a baseball fan and a music fan and a musician.

  • Captain Beatty

Gonna need another 3 grand slam effort tonight. We’re probably gonna drop a game this weekend and tonight will be it.

    • nsalem

Good weekend to take up surfing. I would pay for your lessons.

    • Slugger27

aj starts are the worst. aj pitches terrible, girardi says hes sticking with him, everyone is pissed that aj sucks, first time lawng time tells us his consistently shitty starts are actually good ones, and that we’re the ones that are crazy. then everyone gets ready for nova to come up and pitch well the next day

at least lately it seems that way

  • Nuke LaDoosh

wow, Jim Palmer just had a really tough time communicating on the O’s broadcast…all choked up.
1979 was my first Full Season as a Yankee fanatic (reading all the Spring Training articles, watching all the games on Channel 11, balling when Thurman died, etc.) Mike Flannagan was dominant that year, one the Cy Young. RIP.

  • Cy Pettitte

    fuck the shift.

  • Greg

When did Joe Maddon start managing the O’s?

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

    Fuck yo shift

  • Greg

The shift on Tex is unsurprising but the shift on Grandy might be starting a trend

    • Nuke LaDoosh

At least Grandy can bunt for a base hit when they pull that shit, I mean shift. Carlos Pena did it yesterday against a shift, so maybe Tex can too.

    • Mike

Yes it will be interesting to see if that picks up.

  • Melky

The no-hitter and the perfect game are gone.

    • Cy Pettitte

two hit shutout still in tact

  • Melky

Scratch that, the perfect game is gone…

  • http://bleedingyankeeblue.com Jesse

This game has loss written all over it.

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

Is there a Yankee roll call at Camden yards that I hear? awesome.

  • Cuso

Lol. Now AJ has the excuse of any runs this inning being unearned…

    rut roh

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

How is that on Russ? Jeter just missed it.

  • Cy Pettitte

error on Martin? lol. that’s ridiculous.

  • Simon

Just made some french-toast. Wish I could enjoy them while watching a nice pitching performance….

    • Ethan

phew caught a break on that one

      • Ethan

ugh fuck didn’t mean to post here. I do that a lot. Sorry.

        • Cuso

          dammit, you better stop

          or else…..

          :)

        • Simon

No, it’s ok, I did actually catch a break, french toast almost fell and would have made everything sticky then ruined my delicious dinner, but i caught it with a fork. It’s ok!

    • Nuke LaDoosh

which time zone do you live in?

      • Simon

Who says a guy can’t have breakfast for dinner? I find it quite delicious!

        • Cy Pettitte

breakfast for dinner is the best

          • Rainbow Connection

Dinner for breakfast ain’t bad, either. Cheeseburger? Fried chicken? meatloaf?

            • Simon

Yeah it’s ok, but the meatloaf will haunt you during the day! :)

        • Nuke LaDoosh

I’d respond but I’ve got a mouth full of Cheerios.

          • Simon

            That’s the spirit!

  • Nuke LaDoosh

    Damn

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

    <3 Robbie

  • Cy Pettitte

    wow Robbie is just amazing.

  • Greg

    Only in an AJ start.

  • Dino Velvet

Woah. Mike Flanagan committed suicide. Yikes.

  • Ethan

Would pedroia have been able to make that play that ended the first? That’s something that doesn’t show up on the boxscore but is important for the game.

  • Nuke LaDoosh

Jim Palmer: “Cano’s pretty much become the best all around 2B in baseball.” Guess he’s not impressed with Grit, and will never send his resume to NESPN.

  • Rainbow Connection

My bum constantly wants to make things from scratch and throw/spit them at AJ.

  • Will

Runs for AJ please. Please don’t make Tommy Hunter look even remotely dominant tonight.

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

    wow AJ

  • Nuke LaDoosh

I think we should focus on AJ’s strengths…here goes: He has good posture.

    • MannyGeee

      and GREAT hair!

  • Dela G

    ugh…

  • Cy Pettitte

    ugh. AJ is the WORST.

  • Mykey

    Classic.

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

    face freaking palm

  • Greg

    That was a weird swing.

  • Mykey

    Ah yes, the flood gates.

  • AaronGuielWithASmile

    Ugh

    Please don’t do this AJ

  • Cy Pettitte

    and here we gooooooooo.

just throw at someone, get yourself tossed, and let Noesi take over AJ.

  • Will

AJ please take the Luke Hochevar route and retire from baseball. You’re the anti-thesis of what a Yankee should be, which is a loser and not a winner.

    • Rockstar4Life

You mean Gil Meche. Hochevar is still sucking ass.

      • Will

Oops. You’re right. Thanks for the correction.

        • MannyGeee

speaking of… think Meche is still in game shape, because GODDDAM!!!

    • mj

If only but no we are stuck with him for another two years :(

  • Mariano’s Pimp Hand

CBS Sportsline has listed the last 3 AJ pitches as knuckleballs.

    • Melky

Even CBS Sportsline is lol’ing at AJ

  • Greg

    Rain harder!

  • Captain Beatty

Dump this piece of garbage already.

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

    Put swish on the mound

    /onlyhalfkidding

  • Mykey

Dang groundhog saw it’s shadow again.

  • Will

Every pitcher in the Yankee system > AJ Burnett

  • Grit for Brains

Short leash please…I don’t like hating on AJ but this is getting old

    • Will

Why don’t you like hating on him? He’s a terrible pitcher who is bringing down our team with his pathetic performance. There’s plenty to hate on.

  • your mom

I’m calling a clutch Angle hit there.

    • Cy Pettitte

      he’s gonna walk him.

      • your mom

        What did I say? LOL!

  • Melky

This is awful. Make AJ a one-inning reliever. He got through the first fine.

  • Captain Beatty

What a piece of garbage. If we weren’t facing a bad pitcher it’d already be over. Take him out and salvage what’s left of the game.

    • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

a 3-0 game is not “over.” Even against good teams.

  • Greg

Now that one wasnt on AJ, but he is still starting to implode.

  • tom

4 straight extra base hits. Against the Orioles.

Burnett is drifting into Ed Whitson territory. You’d like to support him, but he makes it damn near impossible.

    • jay h

you’re including that last one. Give me a break

      • tom

        Now you happy?

  • Regis

    I hate this guy.

  • swishers fauxhawk

Fun fact: AJ has not had a start with less than 3 runs allowed since June 29th.

    • AaronGuielWithASmile

I was at that game, AJ got a standing ovation from most of the crowd on the way out. I never dreamed that I’d be attending Burnett’s last decent start of the season.

  • AJSux

God I wish someone would just shoot this guy. Not kill him but injure him just bad enough that he couldn’t pitch anymore.

    • jay h

      wow

    • your mom

Now that’s not nice. Another black eye would be funny though.

      • MannyGeee

“Hey Jorge… I was over there talking to AJ and he says Swisher is a faster runner than you….”

  • AaronGuielWithASmile

So how many innings can Noesi pitch tonight?

  • your mom

Okay so this is where AJ completely loses control.

  • Rockstar4Life

I can’t wait to see what excuse Cashman makes for him. Sorry Brian we have all taken a puff from the objective pipe and it still tells us AJ sucks.

  • Melky

This is hysterical. Just take him out already.

  • Cy Pettitte

oh my god get this stupid fuck out of the game.

  • Dela G

Can we just eat the contract? please?

  • Captain Beatty

LOL! This is just comical. We all knew he would implode. And they keep trotting him out there. Insanity.

    • Dennis

Do you u know what the definition of insanity is, doing the same thing over and over again.

  • Mykey

It’s people like AJ Burnett that give me hope that I may one day pitch for the Yankees. Thanks AJ!

  • Regis

    Seriously? C’Mon, WTF?

  • BigTimeBartolo

AJ Burnett can go fuck himself. I’m seriously so sick of this shit. This guy doesn’t deserve to be paid 15 million a year or whatever his fucking salary is…

  • ItsATarp

Good bye AJ…oh wait more BP

  • Cuso

    Wow. just wow

  • Melky

This is the worst pitching performance I have ever seen. No joke.

  • Captain Beatty

GTFO OUT OF THIS ROTATION YOU FUCKING BUM!!!!!!!

  • Cy Pettitte

    ENOUGH ENOUGH ENOUGH
    god dammit get him out

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

    Hahahaha that’s pathetic.

  • Rockstar4Life

What’s the MLB record for doubles in an inning? AJ has to be shooting for that.

  • Greg

    Implosion complete.

  • Mickey Scheister

AJ Sucks…that is all. Release him NOW.

  • Dela G

you’ve got to be fucking kidding me

why does AJ suck so much?

    jesus christ

  • http://twitter.com/#!/Paddock9652 Stratman9652

This is amazing. What can you really say?

  • Nuke LaDoosh

    Holy Shit.

  • Rainbow Connection

Just let AJ rest for the remainder of the season.

  • Coolerking101

AJ’s head is about to explode.

  • Regis

    Smoke the pipe!

  • Steve O

Wow. How could this be any worse?

    • Mykey

      Don’t you DARE do this!

  • YankeesJunkie

Burnett is the greatest pitcher EVAR!!!!

  • Karl Krawfid

    5 game set.

    Hey Thanks AJ. Fucking scrub.

  • jay h

i just want to point out that we’re not out of it yet. I said it in the 3rd yesterday and i’ll say it again now. The yankees are never out of a game in the first 3 innings

    • tom

definitely agree. especially against the orioles, in this ballpark

  • Ivan

Apparently the Yankees are in a giving mood when they send AJ Burnett to the Mound…

  • AaronGuielWithASmile

This is actually a blessing in disguise. No way Burnett starts another game (or makes the playoff roster) after this.

    • tom

I thought that earlier in the week. He’s like boss’ nephew at this point; he can’t seem to do anything to cost him his job.

  • Jamey

I think Cashman should reconsider his stance on calling up Banuelos. They’re going to need a #2 starter.

    • AaronGuielWithASmile

      1) Burnett isn’t the #2 starter
      2) Banuelos won’t be either

      • Jamey

I don’t think you understand, they need a #2 starter.

        • Sarah

No reason to believe Banuelos is that guy right now. He might be in the future, but right now he’s a kid in Triple A.

          • Jamey

my only concerns right now are that he has at least 1 arm and his position is SP.

      • Dennis

I bet u listen to fatcasa and think joba was tha 8th inning guy right.

        • Jamey

you don’t understand. A baseball series is going to require the Yankees have more than 1 starting pitcher. There’s clearly 1 on the roster right now, that’s not going to fly.

          • Jamey

I’m thinking Banuelos gets called up, and the Yankees hire the best make-up/costume people Industrial Lights & Magic has available. Manny could get away with a fake stache, CC will need much more work.

  • bobtaco

    IT”S A CAT 5 !!! HURRICANE AJ HAS MADE LANDFALL AS A CAT 5!

  • Captain Beatty

That’ll be the ballgame. It’s time to just pull the plug. Stash him away in the bullpen and eat the cost in the offseason. He’s atrocious.

  • Cy Pettitte

    rain harder please.

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

    Save us Irene

  • Coolerking101

Grounder to AJ….and we’ve have total meltdown.

  • Bobert Boberson

    My mind is blown.

    Completely blown.

I mean… Blown like a porno movie staring Ava Devine and Bree Olson kind of blown.

    • Dino Velvet

Really, are Bree’s movies any good?

      I know Ava is incredible.

  • Chip

Wow, it’s getting worse and worse

  • Dela G

will there ever be an out?

    ever?

  • YankeesJunkie

I am just laughing at this point

  • Melky

Really Michael Kay? I heard “I suck balls” not “it’s a wet ball”.

  • Rainbow Connection

Screw you, Jeter, for lobbying for the AJ signing.

  • your mom

AJ is gonna have to take one for the team. Can’t take him out right? Our bullpen will be taxed for the whole series. Pray for rain!!!

  • BigTimeBartolo

omg this guy is a fucking disaster

  • Coolerking101

    Grounder to AJ….meltdown confirmed.

  • Ethan

    Please RAIN MORE!!

  • Ivan

Hahahahahahahahahahahaha Thats all I can do at this point right now…just laugh it off….

    • rek4gehrig

      me too

    • Slugger27

he’s not pitching that bad. if the yankees score 6 runs in the top of the 3rd, then he’ll have kept the yankees in the game, and that’s his only job. you should all get off his case.

      /first time lawng time’d

      • Ivan

        /Cashman’d

  • Steve O

Girardi I leaving in A.J. to total get an ass beating.

  • Cuso

    April Fools!

    oh wait

  • Rockstar4Life

And why is he still out there? There is no reason at all to just give up a game after 1.1 innings. Fuck Girardi too.

    • Chip

If he keeps getting pounded, then maybe they’ll get the game called due to rain

      • Rockstar4Life

This is a fair point, I didn’t consider that.

  • Frank

This guy is a fucking joke. I wonder if Cash is smoking that reality pipe he was talking about?

  • Chip

    RAINOUT!!!!
    RAINOUT!!!!
    COME ON IRENE!!

    • Klemy

      Dexy’s Midnight Runners?

      • Nuke LaDoosh

        Reminds me of a joke.
What do you call a girl with one leg?
        Eileen.

  • nsalem
  • KenC

    OMG RAIN THIS SHIT OUT

  • Klemy

    Oh, my lord.

  • BK2ATL

    Exhibit ZZ.

    Case closed.

    Get rid of him tonight.

  • http://twitter.com/Carlosologist_7 Carlosologist

Burnett has to get bounced from the rotation after this… right?

  • Charles

    Please start raining…AJ you’re pathetic

  • bonestock94

    My objective pipe is failing

  • A-Rod’s Wingman

I hope AJ gets caught in the Hurricane.

  • Captain Beatty

Hey Girardi, by all means keep trotting this guy out there. When’s his next scheduled start? Against Boston? That should go over well.

    • Greg

I blame Cashman more than Girardi. Cashman is letting him stay in the rotation.

      • Coolerking101

Whatever. Who cares. The Yanks are almost assured a playoff spot. AJ won’t even be on the playoff roster.

  • Hall and Nokes

Well it looks like Irene will be the second costliest disaster to blow through Maryland this weekend.

    • http://twitter.com/#!/DiscGolfHero the tenth inning stretch

      +1

  • theyankeewarrior

Good to see AJ battling out there. Even when he doesn’t have his best stuff, he goes out and gives it his all. Seriously, I’ve completely lost it with this fucking guy.

I’d clean out my bank account to get into the press room tonight.

    Clean it all out.

  • your mom

I don’t know what depresses me more. The state of the national economy or the thought of having AJ on our payroll until 2013.

  • StanfordBen

You guys have it all wrong. Do not take AJ out of the game. Keep him in until his arm falls off. It’s win-win: saves the bullpen and the front office won’t be reluctant to cut a pitcher with only one arm.

  • Captain Beatty

These clowns in management are clueless when it comes to pitching. Cashman actually defended this guy. How is he going to spin 6 runs in 2 innings against the Orioles? And Girardi is just a puppet, afraid to do anything that’s not in his book.

  • Grit for Brains

What is this guy’s deal?…like really, whats his deal?

  • bonestock94

    At least it’s tommy hunter

  • Mickey Scheister

AJ Burnett makes Tommy Hunter look like Cy Young.

    • Ivan

Burnett is making everybody look like CY young.

  • IRF

AJ Burnett appears to be struggling right now. Maybe he isn’t as good as his contract might suggest?

  • Will

I don’t care how much this bum is making. Release him now!

  • Cuso

What can they really do here?

AJ has to eat some inning here, like it or not.

  • Bronx Byte

51 stinking horseshit pitches in 2 inning of work. How much will it take ?

  • Melky

That little Mexican pitcher from Team Mexico in the LLWS available?

  • AJSux

Girardi should leave AJ out there until he gives up 20 runs. Hopefully he’ll blow out his arm in the process.

  • Ivan

You know whats amazing…it was almost inevitable with Burnett performance…this is comical.

  • your mom

    Well, I’m just glad to know that we have an offense capable of hitting 3 grand slams in a game. . . . . . . . . . .

  • Mickey Scheister

Only two grandslams needed, not three.

  • Greg

I like what Girardi’s doing. Dont burn the bullpen. Punish the man

    • Cy Pettitte

I hope they make AJ throw 150 pitches.

  • #24!!!!

Is this real life? If so: screw you, AJ.

  • Steve O

A.J. Burnett is quickly becoming one of the all-time worse Yankees.

    • Nuke LaDoosh

up there with Whitson and Pavano

      • Coolerking101

Bullshit. AJ helped win a world series. He can never be in their class.

        • Nuke LaDoosh

Actually, I think he’s worse when you take the contract into consideration.

        • Dale Mohorcic

so did kenny rogers. and hideki irabu.

  • Melky

    RAIN DELAY please GOD.

    • Will

Correction. Rain out. Then this game won’t count and we can save our hate for AJ for another day.

  • Ethan

I imagine almost every single yankee fan would agree to pay an addition 4 dollars per year per ticket to get rid of this bum. Those 4 dollars will pay off his contract, so do that please!

  • Will

Please God. Let it rain harder!

  • Cy Pettitte

    Cy Hunter

  • Melky

AJ Burnett and Jorge Posada for Carlos Zambrano and Alfonso Soriano…who hangs up first?

    • Ivan

The Yankees and not even close. You be doing the Cubs a favor with that trade. I mean at least when Burnett sucks, he doesnt become a total asshole like Zambrano.

      • MannyGeee

and you are eating 2 seasons of Soriano and another year of Zambrano for 2 seasons of AJ. not to mention like $60M difference in salary. Nah, the evil you know….

      • Sweet Dick Willie

Not to mention that Jorge’s contract is up this year and Soriano is due $18 mil/yr through 2014.

  • Rockstar4Life

Still bullshit how the Yankees are being screwed by Selig and the Orioles. First Tampa and now Baltimore. Fuck the both of them and Selig too for letting these teams get away with it. Lets screw them out of their off day right before they play the Red Sox.

    • Ethan

they have an offday before the sox?

      • Rockstar4Life

My bad they don’t, but the Red Sox do. Of course Boston needs the travel day. Oh right they are already in Boston.

  • nsalem

AJ has been lights out in the 3rd inning this year.

  • Dale Mohorcic

Why is BP Burnett still in this game?

    • Greg

      Dont waste the bullpen.

    • Ethan

because they need distance from their SP. They are going on a long stretch of consecutive games, they don’t want to tax their bullpen any more than they have to. They already had a lot of work yesterday.

      • tom

But aren’t they likely to get at least one, maybe two days off?

        • Ethan

Yeah but still, they were worked yesterday. And you can’t guarantee that they will have an off day although it is extremely likely.

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

I wish Jack Curry was here. I was looking forward to another Angry Girardi interview.

  • Kostas

Well I guess I need to smoke more of the proverbial pipe. Perhaps, per Cashman, I should lick the resin from inside…

AJ – you are to pitching what Wile E Coyote is to catching Roadrunner.

  • Rainbow Connection

Is AJ now officially much worse than Lackey? Or are they still neck and jowel?

    • Will

Lackey at least has more than 2 pitches and can strike people out. AJ is so predictable. You can literally see players sitting on his fastball. He just doesn’t give us a chance to win. So fucking terrible.

      • bonestock94

His K/9 is lower than Burnett’s though

  • Melky

    Ahahahhaa 1-2-3!

  • Greg

The pressure’s off him so he goes 1-2-3.

  • Tom Merritt

Why don’t they release this waste product tonite!!! I don’t get this? I’d pay him twice what he is owed just to never have to see his sorry ass again. He will not improve. His mechanics are a disaster and he has no command of any pitch. Why does Girardi keep rolling him out there?

  • http://twitter.com/#!/DiscGolfHero the tenth inning stretch

Props to Curtis, this situation is ridiculous.

  • nsalem

Another dominating 3rd inning performance by AJ.

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

    Michael Young and Todd Helton?

    • Dino Velvet

      Huh?

      • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

        for the trivia question.

Besides Jeter, who are the active leaders in games played for their teams?

        • MannyGeee

          Young & Helton hands down.

    • chesterfield

      Helton, Chipper Jones.

  • nsalem

    The comeback starts.

  • Captain Beatty

Where are Darrell Rasner and Sidney Ponson when we need them? Anybody’s better than AJ’s 5+ ERA over the past two seasons. And I mean anybody.

    • http://twitter.com/#!/DiscGolfHero the tenth inning stretch

      I’ll pitch for curly fries.

  • Sarah

Maybe AJ should try pitching with his left arm.

  • bonestock94

Ugh, and now windspeed estimates for Irene in my area went from 100 mph yesterday to 50 now. LAME

    • Mykey

      Isn’t that a good thing?

      • bonestock94

        Technically yea

  • Nuke LaDoosh

Maybe Yanks have a few Grand Slams in them tonight.

  • teddy

good approach by teix, didn’t work out

  • Melky

Chipper Jones and Todd Helton maybe?

    • tom

Do franchise records only apply to time in one city? If so, Chipper’s a good call. But otherwise I’d assume Aaron would hold the Braves record.

  • Greg

Nothing’s going their way. right now.

    • your mom

Can you blame them? They’re facing “Cy” Hunter.

  • Ethan

Really like the YES broadcasters actually standing up for Arod

    /Kay’d

    • Dale Mohorcic

Because every team that faces BP Burnett is known as the “Bombers”.

  • MannyGeee

I dont know what drives me crazier…

that AJ has turned into an absolute pumpkin for the 3rd August in a row or that this offense turnes enemic when AJ shits the bed…

  • thaaaaaaaaaaaayankeeswin

so another night of our starter getting blown up…and the yanks not being able to hit a 4.5 era scrub. when do the slams begin?

  • teddy

anyone think granderson eas hit on purpose

  • Will

Can the Yankees just Ollie Perez this asshole and banish him to Tampa? I have a feeling Noesi, Phelps, or Warren would give us a better chance to win than this pathetic excuse for a pitcher.

  • http://twitter.com/#!/Paddock9652 Stratman9652

Kim Jones lost all of her clothes. *Chuckles*

Time for the rest of the Yanks to take the soap and towel to Burnett tonight.

Woohoo! 6-1 A’s. No 200th win for Wakefield!

      • nsalem

I heard somewhere that the A’s are prone to blowing large leads.

    • Ethan

      Tampa is leading though.

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

Michael Kay and Friends are obsessed with Robert Andino.

  • BK2ATL

    You know what?

Maybe Girardi should just leave him out there until the 9th, esp. after his last meltdown where he cursed out Girardi for pulling him. This time, don’t pull him at all. Make him pitch with his feet in the 9th, if his arm falls off.

    • Bob Stone

There is no proof he cursed Girardi. But, I agree with letting him eat some inings.

  • MannyGeee

AJ going to single handedly kill Russell Martin.

    • tom

Martin should get paid double-time for AJ games

  • AaronGuielWithASmile

    Stop, stop, he’s already dead!

  • Dino Velvet

The team really must be seething over AJ.

  • Captain Beatty

Jeter wants AJ gone as much as we do.

  • Bob Stone

I’ve been on the fence regarding AJ in the past, given what a terrific Yankee killer he was when in Toronto, his demonstrated great stuff and his 09 World Series victory. I’ve supported Girardi in trying to ride out his slumps.

But . . . this is just too much. He is hurting the team. He is hurting morale. He has to go.

Trade him for a bucket of balls or whatever you can get. If you can’t get anything, cut him.

I’ve had it with AJ. HE HAS TO GO!!!

  • thaaaaaaaaaaaayankeeswin

to say AJ sucks would be an insult to suck

  • JobaWockeeZ

I’m smoking the objective pipe. He still sucks.

  • Karl Krawfid

Hey at least the A’s are smacking up Wakefield.

  • http://twitter.com/#!/Paddock9652 Stratman9652

Wow the last thing AJ needs onto of his usual suckfest is bad luck.

  • tom

Well, that was on Jeter, but, you know, there’s the old baseball-ism, that when pitchers screw around with long pitch counts, it leaves fielders back on their heels in moments like that.

Not that Jeter would make that excuse.

    • Bob Stone

      Very true.

  • BK2ATL

It’s fucking 7-0 again with “guess who” on the mound….

Say what you want about Zambrano, but at least he gives a fuck and has some pride. Crazy as a square wheel, but at least he competes on the mound.

This mofo we got, competes with himself, trying to top his last meltdown.

    • Ethan

I honestly think AJ cares. I think his problems stem from psychological metaldowns. He just doesn’t believe he can do it any more. He’s historically been so bad in August that it can’t just be bad pitching. He is so streaky that it really seems like his problems are psychological.

      • BK2ATL

Dude, save the excuses for this dude.

How many more do we have to endure? It certainly is not fair to consistently have your defense on their heels, since they have no idea what he’s going to throw or where, nor should the offense always have to fight uphill on his starts.

Enough with the excuses. He’s gotta go.

        • Ethan

I’m not giving an excuses for him. I don’t have any faith in him anymore to be a quality pitcher. But I think his problem is psychological, which really is worse than a mechanical problem. A mechanical problem he could fix, a psychological problem you can’t.

      • Jimmy McNulty

He just doesn’t believe he can do it any more.

Gee, I wonder where he got that idea.

      • http://twitter.com/#!/DiscGolfHero the tenth inning stretch

Actually, a “metaldown” sounds pretty epic.

    • MannyGeee

Say what you want about Zambrano, but at least he gives a fuck and has some pride. Crazy as a square wheel, but at least he competes on the mound.

um. have you watched any Zambrano lowlights? He doesnt care about pitching well or about anything but hisself. say what you want about AJ, but Zambrano is no better in ANY WAY

  • Monteroisdinero

So how many pitches does AJ get in this game? I gotta believe 120.

  • Greg

THis game is over. THey are not going top score 22 runs of Tommy Hunter. It was forseeable that:

    A: AJ would struggle
B: The Yankees aren’t going to score many runs tonight due to the law of averages.

    • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

They don’t need to score 22 freaking runs to win.

    • bonestock94

Tommy Hunter sucks and is totally beatable

  • your mom

With this pattern, AJ will have a 1,2,3 inning in the 5th. Unfortunately so will our offense.

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

    Comeback time!

  • Bob Stone

    Hip, Hip Jorge!!!

Jorge’s been hot since the benching. Guess it lit a fire under him.

    • your mom

Should try that with AJ. Skip his next start.

      • BK2ATL

How about the rest of the season? Who’s with me on that?

        • JonS

          I’m with you.

  • JobaWockeeZ

So does this convince Cash that AJ shouldn’t be 30 feet close to the playoff roster? I still doubt it.

  • Karl Krawfid

Gardner should go up and just swing at that first pitch down the middle he loves to take almost every at bat.

  • Greg

There it is again with Gardner. The extremes. He’s either extermely hot or ice cold. I would prefer the middle ground.

    • Will

I want a left fielder who can hit and defend, not just defend. Not getting production for our LF, SS and DH is killing us this year. I’ve never been a Gardner fan and I think he is overrated. His slap approach is infurriating.

      • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

        Have you seen Jeter’s numbers?

        • Will

          Yes. They’re ok.

      • Sarah

Jeez, he’s in a slump. Not like he’s hitting .150 for the season.

  • Will

How is Tampa still in the penant race? Sheesh. Just like last year. They won’t go away.

    • tom

You consider 9 games back in the loss column for division or wild card, with barely 30 games to play, just like last year, when they won the division”?

  • Charles

AJ move your ass you lazy fuck theres no way Vlad should ever get an infield hit

  • Captain Beatty

Say what you want about the guy but he gutted out 5 innings on a tough, rainy night. AJ kept us within striking distance as just the night before our offense came back from a 6 run deficit. The bats just didn’t get it done tonight. AJ’s still our guy.

That will be the spin by Cashman and Girardi after the game on AJ’s start. These clowns don’t know anything about pitching.

    • Greg

Not to mention the three errors by the defense.

    • Jimmy McNulty

Wow, sooooo many stupid things I don’t know where to start. He “gutted out five innings” it’s more that he completely shit his pants and the manager just decided to let him keep sucking. “Kept us in striking distance” Really? Six runs is striking distance? I’d have to say that most teams would feel pretty damn good about a six run lead. Granted the Yankees have one of the best offenses in the business, but still…I’d hardly call six runs striking distance. You don’t expect the team to score six runs a night by any means. “AJ’s our guy” Yeah maybe if they have a game to give in the playoffs they’ll run him out there.

“These clowns don’t know anything about pitching.” Umm…yeah, I’m pretty sure they do. They actually run a major league baseball franchise. Besides, it doesn’t take Greg Maddux to realize that AJ Burnett is fucking horrible.

      • BK2ATL

Read the 2nd paragraph. It was a joke.

    • JobaWockeeZ

Seriously they need to hire a separate scouting department for pitching because ever since Cashman got power the pitching record has been pretty bad. Yeah CC is good but no scout would say not to sign him…

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

    Momentum shifter!!

  • Karl Krawfid

    safe

  • 24isKing

Correct me if im wrong but we have AJ “head case” Burnett for 2 more seasons. Hypothetically speaking if AJ comes back in the next 2 years and pitches lights out do you guys still consider him a bad signing?

Note: I believe we have a better chance of Jesus Christ pitch for the Yankees before AJ is good again.

    • tom

I was going to say, that’s pretty much the mother of all hypotheticals

  • http://www.repairmycomputer.com Marc

Sooo AJ has given up 7 runs, and has a runner at 3rd, but hasn’t been lifted? Methinks Girardi is caving to AJ. I wonder if AJ was actually pissed about last week’s pulling early, and so Girardi is letting him hang himself this game?

    • Greg

      He’s saving the bullpen.

      • Bob Stone

Exactly. He’s just letting AJ finish the mess he started. Leave him in for 175 pitches.

      • Frigidevil

Why save the pen when there’s probably not going to be any baseball until Monday?

  • your mom

Burnett is finishing this inning and that’ll be it.

    • Bob Stone

You’re probably right but I would love to see him pitch the whole game, wear out his arm and hit the DL.

      • BK2ATL

        +1. I said 120 earlier, nah let’s go for 180 pitches.

  • Matt Montero

Anyone else excited for AJ’s interview after the game? It’s personally my favorite part of his starts…

I’m expecting him to say something like, “I got better after my one bad inning.”

  • MannyGeee

    well… that sucked

  • Bob Stone

    9-1 – Leave AJ in.

    • BK2ATL

Now, I completely agree. Leave his ass out there for 120 pitches. At this point, whatever happens, happens.

Of all the Yankees, he had the nerve to cuss out Girardi for pulling him out of the last game???? Fuck that. Do not bail him out. This game is lost. Don’t burn the bullpen. Make him earn that $16.5 million with a hot dose of humility and a cold dose of shame.

  • your mom

    LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • thaaaaaaaaaaaayankeeswin

    laughable

  • BigTimeBartolo

Can’t stand watching this motherfucking scrub come out every 5 days and continue to fucking suck.

  • IRF

Remember when AJ was pissed because he thought he was taken out too early? This must be much shittier for him.

  • Tyrone Sharpton

Ok lynch Burnett. Fucking piece of cockshit…to think that I would support him

  • http://www.repairmycomputer.com Marc

Wtf is going on here. 112 pitches, 9 earned runs, why is he still playing?! This must be Girardi’s way of getting him back from last week.

    • Greg

      HE’S SAVING THE BULLPEN

    • Bob Stone

Doubtful. Girardi is letting him eat some innings to save the bullpen.

    • your mom

Don’t complain! Expect to lose the game. Just sit back, laugh and enjoy the ass-whoopin.

  • Widget

Nice to see Oakland doing their best to blow an 8-1 lead.

  • Captain Beatty

After this game AJ’s only role on this team will be the pie guy in walkoff victories. His current role is a clown, just here to amuse us, and he has done that. But I think Girardi will finally take him out of the rotation, this has just been too much.

  • Sean

I’d give Igawa another chance to start before I sent AJ out there again.

    • Bob Stone

Never thought I’d ever hear a Yankee fan actually WANTING to give Igawa a chance to start. Wow!

    • http://www.repairmycomputer.com Marc

  • Randy

Ok Andy, family time is over. Time for one more playoff run.

  • Bronx Byte

Burnett’s spin after the game : “I’m going to get this thing right.”

    What right ?

    • EricVA

And Girardi will say that, without the three errors, the game wouldn’t have been so bad.

    • Matt Montero

Hey take away the first, second, fourth, and fifth inning and he had a great game. Worked efficiently, kept his pitch count down.

  • your mom

Well, at least we won’t be shut out. Fuck Tommy Hunter. And Fuck AJ!

  • Frigidevil

Jesus AJ. 2 wins and 2 quality starts in the last 2 months, during which time he’s added a whole run to his ERA. For a guy as prideful as we know he is, how has he not just pulled himself? He is costing this team games and he knows it.

  • Nogomo

As has been noted, tomorrow’s DH is cancelled and they’re talking about a game or games on Sunday.

Oh, and AJ sux. his has also been noted.

  • Dino Velvet

They just canceled tomorrow’s double header.

    • Widget

That blows, so are they going to play a doubleheader Sunday or Monday? Funny too because Boston and Oakland are playing 2 tomorrow because they canceled sunday. Great the Red Sox get two days off before they play the Yankees.

Tied in the loss column. But records don’t count?

          • Tom

About “Tied in the loss column. But records don’t count?” If that refers to the poster who said the Yanks weren’t as good as the Sawx, well, yes, I think that as far as this year goes, it doesn’t matter that they’re tied (at the moment) in losses. For whatever reason, the Sox play the Yankees tougher than the Yanks play them. The Sox seem to then coast a bit against other teams, enough to make for this W-L near-tie. Impossible to play everyone as tough as they play NY. And, as I said last night, there’s a statistical illusion generated by the Yanks’ staff: it ain’t as good as it appears to have been. It’s an over-achieving staff, easily exposed against a good hitting team like the Sox. Given that the Sox do have a legitimate 1-2 in their rotation (and when Bucholz is healthy a legit 3), they can often keep the Yankee offense under enough control to go 10-2. Play every game like it’s a playoff and use their punch and their pitching power, and the current tie in losses means zilch.

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

So the September 8 game is at a TBA time? I would not be one bit surprised if the O’s made that a night game for the sole purpose of making the yankees go to Anaheim at a ridiculous hour.

    • Tom

If Buck has a say that’s what’ll happen!

  • Widget

What will get lost in this poopfest from AJ is the offense getting dominated by Tommy Hunter. That’s pretty disappointing.

    • Greg

They were not going to score many runs today. The law of averages would not permit that.

  • teddy

yanks shouldn’t shown up september 8, unless they need the game

    • EricVA

That wouldn’t be awesome, but would never happen. Plus the Yankees should announce it beforehand, so the Orioles lose all the concession sales.

      • EricVA

        *would be…

Dont cheat the customers out of money.

    • http://twitter.com/johnSC2000 JohnnyC

      How would they know?

  • Nogomo

One would be forgiven for thinking the offense prefers Phil to AJ. At least so far. Still some frames left.

  • Mojo

Teixera is so miserably bad. I’ll say it a million more times until it’s no longer true. Yeah, he just lined out to first, but hot fu*king damn he is the most infuriating player to watch. Even more so than AJ because nobody expects anything out of him.

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

AJ wasn’t that bad! He would have had a quality start if he went 1 more inning and allowed 6 less runs!

    Girardi’d

  • Mojo

Damnit, I just know that the Sox are going to fight back tonight. No opposing lead is safe in Fenway.

  • Joebrah

I want AJ to throw a complete game tonight.

    250 pitches, 25 earned runs.

The fact that he is almost certainly starting against Boston next week is laughable. I can’t remember a pitcher that over a two month span had a more definitive “automatic L” stigma than AJ.

    • Matt Montero

Wouldn’t the MLBPA have a problem with that? They seem to bitch about everything. I guess the Yankees could counter, the MLBPA is for Major Leaguers, which he clearly isn’t pitching like.

  • http://twitter.com/#!/Paddock9652 Stratman9652

I’d love to give Vlad a roll of quarters, send him to the batting cages, and just sit back and watch.

  • Ethan

This is the ugliest game all month, quite possibly all year.

    • Ethan

Corretion, definitely the ugliest game of the year.

      • Mojo

Pitching issues aside and an utterly anemic offense against a less-than-mediocre pitcher, I’m sure we can all agree that this blowout is far better than a one-run loss in extra innings. At least we can laugh at their pathetic play and not mourn more RISP Fail and such. It sucks, yes, but it’s not heartbreaking in the slightest.

        • Ethan

Why couldn’t AJ have a Zambrano-esque meltdown and announce that he was retiring.

          • Ethan

    I don’t think so.

He mouthed something with a look of disgust as he headed for the clubhouse steps. I could not make out what he said. Otherwise, nothing notable. The Yanks are in Baltimore so he wasn’t booed.

  • nsalem

    16 to go for 30

  • Mojo

ARod garbage time. We all knew that was coming.

  • Frigidevil

    Pfft…stat padder

  • Karl Krawfid

    Chippin away

  • Ethan

Yay Alex broke is homerless streak. One of the few highlights of the night. The others being Posada’s homer and the fact that we know AJ won’t be starting another game (really really hopefully). Is there anywhere to stream the postgame show online?

    • JobaWockeeZ

I have no faith that they’ll make the right decision by taking AJ out of his spot. It’s one hell of a dream. But I suppose I should take another puff from the objective pipe…

      • Ethan

I really don’t understand how they can let him pitch again, Especially against boston.

        • http://twitter.com/johnSC2000 JohnnyC

They’ll never admit it but Cash and Girardi aren’t too concerned with finishing first. Wild card seems sufficient to them.

          • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

The same could be said for Boston with them staying with Lackey and Wakefeild.

            • Ethan

Neither one has been as bad as AJ of late.

            • Ethan

I wish I had YES just to watch the postgame for this game. I really want to see what Girardi says

              • Ethan

                F

  • Will

    Yay! Meaningless A-Rod homerun!

  • Captain Beatty

    Freddy and Nova- Sunday
    Colon- Monday

    CC- Tuesday at Boston
    Hughes- Wednesday
    AJ- Thursday

They won’t pitch Freddy and Nova on 3 days rest Thursday. AJ’s all we got, folks. They won’t go with Noesi or an AAA pitcher.

    • Greg

      You forgot Nova.

      • Greg

        Sorry my mistake.

    • Bartolo’s Colon

Aj in Fenway is going to be a disaster of epic proportions

  • MannyGeee

    are we tied yet?

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

    Stat padding yankees.

  • Cy Pettitte

at least they’re going down fighting

  • Karl Krawfid

    8 more runs boys

    • Bob Stone

Yeah!! That’s only two Grand Slams!

      • JobaWockeeZ

Since the Yankees just hit 3 grand slams obviously AJ kept us in the game.

        /postgame’d

  • Ethan

Ok now at least the game isn’t quite so embarrassing for the offense.

  • Frigidevil

    God DAMN Swish!

  • Widget

Should have pulled AJ sooner Girardi.

    • Greg

      HE WAS SAVING THE BULLPEN

ANd that’s hindsight. Hunter is pitching to the score.

      • JobaWockeeZ

        THERE ARE NO GAMES TOMORROW.

        • Greg

          Doesnt matter.

You dont know if Hunter gives up those runs in a close game.

And of course Ayala gave up 3 runs.

    • Karl Krawfid

I like how they waited 5 innings to announce the games tomorrow are canceled.

Maybe I’m looking too hard into it.

  • Mojo

So when can we bench Gardner for a game or two? Has he even hit it out of the infield lately? Also, hasn’t Andruw been sodomizing the ball since the ASB?

    • Sarah

Yesterday he had a hit into right field. The day before he beat out an infield single.

      Tomorrow is his day off.

      • Mojo

He’s going mental, it seems. I don’t understand why Jones hasn’t been playing more. I’m actually quite baffled, in fact.

        • Sarah

They’ve moved him into DH against lefties, which is when Gardy used to sit.

  • Captain Beatty

I think our only hope for AJ not pitching Thursday at Boston is that Sunday’s DH gets washed away as well. Then if we play a DH Monday we can pitch Nova and Freddy, push Colon back to Tuesday, CC on Wed, and Hughes on Thurs.

    • Tom

Don’t ask me HOW they’ll do it, but I really don’t believe that AJ will be permitted to pitch in Boston.

  • Ethan

Why couldn’t AJ have a Zambrano-esque meltdown and announce that he was retiring.

  • Cy Pettitte

    let’s fuck up this lolpen

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

wow Jeter almost hit one out to dead center.

  • AJSux

If they run AJ out there for a few more starts, he could end up with 0 WAR this year. Now that would be funny and appropriate

  • Ethan

    Teix popup?

  • Bob Stone

Only 7 more to go to tie.

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

    Michael kay is crazy.

  • wow

this is a bit off topic, but I’m wondering if there is public transit from the St. Pete Airport to the Trop?

I’m going to the last series against the Rays at some point that week.

    Anyone now?

    • Sarah

Maybe a city bus, but I’m doubtful. The transit in FL isn’t very good.

    • Cy Pettitte

besides cabs, no. probably cost you like $25 each way. are you staying at a hotel? the Marriott I stayed at (clearwater) had a shuttle for the games, $20 round trip.

      • wow

        that sounds good. thanks.

    • Bob Stone

I don’t know about the mass transit situation from the airport to the Rotten Orange – I’m sure you could take a cab.

The real question is: “why would you ever want to watch a game in that dump? It is the sorriest excuse for a ball park in all of major league baseball.

      • wow

it’s the closest to me (I’m in Greenville, SC) and I’ll be in school then so I don’t want to take time off to travel to NY, although I could.

I tried to go earlier this year, but I had to cancel because of a business trip.

  • Karl Krawfid

The real fun is about to start.

    Post game with AJ!

    • Ethan

Does anywhere live stream the postgame?

      • Ethan

        online that is

        • Karl Krawfid

          not that I know of.

Yankees Lohud has a twitter feed thing that follows all the beat writers.

I’m sure they will post all the dumb shit AJ says.

      • Bob Stone

I have the mlb package and they don’t. I think the answer is No.

  • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

    and the postgame fireworks begin…

  • Nuke LaDoosh

OK, I’ll call this a win for Mike Flannagon and let’s move on.

    • Bob Stone

Good thought. I like the sentiment for Flannigan. And . . . I am ready to move on without AJ in the rotation.

      • Nuke LaDoosh

        amen brutter

  • Cuso

    Stat padding:

Swisher has four homers in his last four games.

The only game we won in the last 4 was the one he DIDN’T homer in.

    Stat padder: buy into it.

Now go ahead and cuss me out & call me ignorant. Hate me. I’m the heel.

    • Nuke LaDoosh

      excellent points

      • FIPster Doofus

        No, not really.

    • The Mick

Based on your logic, anytime the Yankees fall behind in a game, they should forfeit their at-bats and take three outs.

    • nsalem

Sounds like you enjoy it when people do bad things to you. I feel sorry for you.

  • Greg

Girardi saying that he “doesnt think he can skip AJ due to the schedule”

    • mbonzo

Meh, AJ will have a great start where he looks better than CC and everybody will think he’s play off bound, its too predictable.

  • Greg

After hearing that, I think he is seriously considering forfeiting the game on September 8th. He was pissed at the schedulemakers.

    • Bob Stone

He was pissed at Baltimore management for refusing to play a double header today and scheduling the make-up game for September 8th. He was pissed at Balimore management, not the schedule makers.

  • Monteroisdinero

AJ and Laffey (Scranton) sucking it up tonight. Both these guys need to find another organization.

  • Bob Stone

I’m glad Girardi expressed his displeasure, in the post game show, with Baltimore management’s refusal to play a split double header today and to schedule one for tomorrow, which is now canceled.

He also indicated that the Yankees would not accept playing a make up game on September 8th, their only day off, and a day before they travel to Anaheim.

I haven’t seen him that irritated about anything in awhile.

    • Rainbow Connection

      Short memory?

  • Jimmy McNulty

So…AJ may be worse than Javy was last year, that dude’s just been fucking godawful. At this point he may not be the seventh best starter in the organization.

    • FIPster Doofus

I doubt Noesi would do worse.

      • Jimmy McNulty

I was referring to Warren. CC, Nova, Freddy, Bartolo, Phail, Noesi, and Warren were the seven starters I was referring too…anyone that I missed?

        • Freddy Garcia’s 86 mph Heat

ManBan couldn’t really be worse than AJ.

  • Nuke LaDoosh

listening to the post game interviews, at least A.J. isn’t a Doosh.

    • Bob Stone

I agree. He’s being open and fair.

I still want him OFF the team. Now.

    • FIPster Doofus

In my view, as good a guy as AJ Burnett is, that’s how as bad a pitcher he is.

      /McCarver

    • tom

It’s actually quite sad to listen to him.

      • Bob Stone

When he’s off the team, we won’t have to listen to him anymore.

  • Dan Sigal

When A.J was signed to an 82.5 million dollar contract fans all across the city were excited to bring him over from Toronto. It was encouraging that he posted an 18 and 10 record in his last year with the blue jays while pitching a career high 221.1 innings. What was even more astonishing was that he managed to keep his name off the disabled list for the first time in his career. before spring training came around the Yankees were constantly reminded of how they were fooled by Carl Pavano when he won 18 games for the marlins and people will never forgot how that all unraveled. He pitched a total of 145.2 innings in a span of four years while also pocketing 40 million. The Yankees remained optimistic and welcomed Burnett into the organization. Burnett sadly enough was never able to live up to his standards, but he showed flashes of what he potentially could have been. In June and July of the year 2009 people all around New York started to see why the Yankees signed him to such a mammoth contract to be their number two starter. He pitched to 2.30 ERA while posting an outstanding 7 and 2 record. As amazing as he was in those two months he couldn’t have been worse when august came around. Going 0 and 4 pitching to a 6.03 era. Since that august, A.J was never able to regroup and it ruined his confidence. Once again he showed those same flashes that he had shown a couple of months earlier and prevailed in game 2 of the World Series shutting out the Phillies in 6 innings. It was great that he won an important game for us especially since he needed to rebound after C.C had lost game 1, but some including himself might have forgotten that he was blown up for 7 runs in 3 innings in game 5.

When 2010 came around it was a new year and a fresh start for Burnett. We all thought it was coming especially when he teased us with a 2.43 era and 3-0 record in April. It was all downhill from there. It even reached such a low point that he posted an 11.35 ERA in the month of June. With Dave elliand mysterious absence that was Burnett excuses for pitching such poor performances. When elliand returned it was the same Burnett we had seen for the past 2 years. It reached another low point when the Yankees had enough and had no other choice but to remove him from the rotation in the post season. Burnett was furious with the organizations decision to remove him but when you take a look at the stats you couldn’t disagree with them. His final 22 starts of the regular season, he was 4-13 with a 6.48 ERA. No matter what the numbers were when the Yankees needed to rely on a 4th starter in the ALCS they gave that game to A.J. They were already down two to one in the series and fans were packing their bags just giving the series away to the rangers. It had seemed he had given us fans hope and life when in the 6th inning the Yankees were up 3 to 2 but once an enigma always an enigma. He allowed a 3 run homer to Bengie Molina and once they were eliminated that’s all people thought about in the offseason. It was still fresh in our minds and what made things worse was Dave elliand was relieved of his duties as a pitching coach.
When Larry Rothschild was hired on November 20, 2010 his first job was to straighten out Burnett. The Yankees tried everything they could that they even sent Rothschild to his home. Over the offseason A.J. tried to keep his mind off things and stay focused on the upcoming season. As the 2011 season prolonged Burnett was pitching to 4 ERA. It was nothing new for the Yankees but they had no other choice to send him out there. When the calendar flipped to august all people were thinking about was his stats in August as a Yankee. (0-8 record and a 7 ERA.) It was fate for him to pitch to his numbers and as they say history repeats itself he sure proved it. Except this time he was pitching to an 11.91 ERA. So, through the first 3 years as a Yankee and hopefully his last journalists and reporters were all saying how Burnett was never consistent. Well if you ask me, he was consistently pitching disastrous through his time in New York.

    My eyes! My eyes!

  • John Cerra

This seems absurd, but the one of other horrible year players this year has turned his season around, and might be a better choice to start in AJ’s place next week. Andrew Brackman has had a great month since he reverted to a prior pitching motion, has big league stuff, is on the 40 man roster, and…..could not do worse than AJ….

  • The Big 3

I read past all the Jeter shit,
    and Swish shit,
    Jones shit,
    Nova shit.

I even read past the few comments about replacing Mo.

Three quality starts and most of you would be asking if he should start before CC (cause he looks washed up lately): Fact.

I think he’ll be fine (if healthy) but the season’s growing short, he doesn’t have much time left to right himself. If he wants to salvage this season and be an important playoff asset, he needs to get on the ball pronto.

And don’t kid yourselves, if AJ is still sucking and is replaced by Nova/Hughes/Colon/Garcia in the playoffs, the chance of this team advancing is greatly diminished.

    • The Big 3

Against the best offense of his era – NYY:
      11 GS
      6-3 W/L
      1.03 WHIP
      .206 BAA

If you actually believe this guy doesn’t have the talent to dominate, you’re batshit insane.

Get over it, AJ. You’re needed.

  • stuart a

that aj is done. he is gone..

talk about a guy in denial

aj has been horrible for over 40 starts.. not 5 but 40 starts. he has 8 quality starts in 27 starts this year.

jorge use to be great also, key words are use to be…

  • stuart a

the guy cannot repeat his mechanics. he is 34, throws 2 pitches and has been a big leaguer for 12 years.

    he is beyond help……
