Game 133: Back to Boston
By
This was in our image uploads under "Red Sox," and I couldn't not use it. Remember that? Insane. (AP Photo/Julie Jacobson)
Biggest series of the season? Eh, I don’t thinks so, not at all really. The Yankees have a big lead on a playoff spot so they don’t need to sweat that, the only thing this series is about is getting in better position to win the division. SG ran the numbers, and pretty much the only thing the Yankees can do to drastically improve their chances at an AL East crown is sweep. That would be unlikely even if they had Key, Cone, and Pettitte lined up to pitch. Here’s the lineup…
Brett Gardner, LF
Derek Jeter, SS
Curtis Granderson, CF
Mark Teixeira, 1B
Robinson Cano, 2B
Nick Swisher, RF
Eric Chavez, 3B
Jorge Posada, DH
Frankie Cervelli, C
CC Sabathia, SP
The game starts a little after 7pm ET and can be seen on My9 locally and MLB Network nationally. Enjoy.
Alex Rodriguez Update: A-Rod got a cortisone shot in his sprained left thumb today and it would not be surprising if he missed the entire series. For shame.

I can hardly contain my excitement for an overhyped series whose 27 innings will take roughly 12 hours. Yippee.
Yeah, I’ve started to really hate these series, right around 2008 it started. The games are just way too long and there’s way too much attention paid to them. It’s a rivalry, but 95% of it is manufactured bullshit created by the MSM.
I wonder if Boston fans feel the same way?
I’m convinced most Boston fans hate the Yankees more than they love the Red Sox.
Here’s a question to ask a Boston fan in regards to that.
A: The Yankees and The Red Sox are the only teams to win the WS for the rest of creation
or
B: Neither team wins the WS for ever.
Which one would you take?
I’d argue that the same concept applies to Yankee fans.
Not even in the same hemishpere. And I’m not just saying that because I’m a Yankees fan. I’ve lived in Boston for 10 years and in New York the rest of my life. The obessession with the Yankees in is MUCH worse in Boston than any feeling folks in New York have for the Red Sox. It’s not even close.
Yeah, I agree. I also lived in Boston for 4 years. Now, I work with a ton of Bostonians. They are quite obsessed with Yankee hatred.
I strongly disagree. I get up to Boston quite reguarly for business and have some fun, spirited discussion with Sox fans. Truthfully, I just drive them insane, which is not hard to do.
Their obsession with the Yankees defines their baseball identity as much, if not more so, than their love of the Red Sox. If the Yankees ceased to exist, I’m not sure Red Sox fans would have a purpose. Yankee fans, on the other hand, are obsessed with the Yankees and their interest in the Red Sox is driven mainly in how it will impact the chances of the Yankees’ success.
Red Sox fans are still convinced they are supporting a team of lovable losers in a battle against the Evil Empire, even when that era has passed. They are still convinced the sky if falling and in the end their spirits will be crushed.
I’ve noticed the RAB poster Greg is overly focused on the Red Sox. The Red Sox losing seems as important to him as the Yankees winning, maybe more so. He has the mentality of the majority of Red Sox fans toward the Yankees. His attitude is unusual. Imagine if all Yankee fans were like Greg. That’s Red Sox fans attitude during baseball and the Yankees. Life is much better as a Yankee fan for many reasons!
That’s the main reason why Red Sox fans are Red Sox fans. They hate the Yankees and jump on the Boston bandwagon. The vast majority of Red Sox fans I know became fans in 2003 and 2004.
Not this year!
…Okay and you can say the same thing for each and every other baseball team out there.
Four hours for tonight’s game, so you’re guess of twelve hours for twenty-seven innings is right on target.
For those worrying about Tampa Bay, you shouldn’t be.
The Yankees could go 14-14 the rest of the season and the Rays couldn’t catch them. They’d have to go 22-6 to win the Wild Card. Essentially, they’d have to pull off a 2007 Rockies to knock us out of the playoffs.
And everyone forgets that the Rays and Red Sox have a bunch of games left. If the Rays are winning, the Sox are losing, and that would help the Yankees.
Am I the only one who is starting to worry bout A-Rod in the future? I mean since 08 his production has gone down and he always seem to be hurt for periods of time. Im not saying he’s finish, he still a dangerous hitter no doubt, but going into the 2012 season, can honestly rely on A-Rod to healthy and be the Yankees clean up hitter.
People have been worrying about ARod’s future as soon as the ink dried on the cotract.
He’s an infielder in his mid-to-late-30′s. They rarely age well. That contract was doomed from the start, there was zero chance of the team breaking even.
About ARod in the future: given his age, I think this year has seriously hurt his chances of ever catching Aaron, but apart from that he should certainly remain a formidable hitter for several more years. Musial and Williams could both put together seriously good seasons after 35, and Aaron himself remained a consistency virtuoso for quite a while. Still, it’s time for the Yanks to begin thinking of where they’ll find a replacement HoF’er: within the organization or by free agency.
THE YANKEES WILL WIN THIS ONE 7-3…… Who agree?
Nope, they’ll lose 10-0. CC knocked out in the third. Lackey with a complete game shutout.
/reverse psychology’d
Life without PED’s is a bitch.
reply fail
Yeah making money to not play is such a bitchy life. Wow.
Well I guess you told me! Hooray for A-Rod sitting on the bench and STILL collecting a paycheck! Fuck the Yankees, right?
Sucks for us, windfall for A-Rod either way.
Uhm what?
Regarding SG’s numbers about the chances of the Yanks winning the division given the outcome of this series:
“So basically, if the Yankees still want a realistic shot at winning the division, they have to sweep this series.”
I don’t see how that’s true given that he gives the Yankees a 40.5% chance of winning the division if they win 2 out of 3 and a 28.5% chance if they lose 2 out of 3. Both 40.5% and 28.5% are “realistic shots.”
Realistic was a crappy choice of words. I really meant that a sweep was the only way for the Yankees to regain the advantage in the division, which I felt they needed given their comparatively more difficult schedule over the rest of the year.
Got it. Makes sense.
By the way, do your calculations not already take into account the difficulty of the remaining schedule?
They do, but only in terms of strength of opponent and home/road advantage/disadvantage.
They don’t account for the travel and the doubleheaders and things that are going to likely make it harder for the Yankees to put their best team on the field most often. Unavailability of best pitchers in some games depending on prior workload, resting 30+ year old starters, etc., that kind of stuff.
You do try to hedge the team’s going-forward projection with that in mind, but it’s tough to really estimate how much of an impact it can have over a 30 game stretch.
Yeah those statistics never make sense. Just like the sabermatricians that said that the Yankees would be an 85 win team this year.
I’m not confident at all going into this series. With they way our inconsistent offense and pitching is going I consider the Yanks lucky if they take 1 out of 3.
The Red Sox are so like the Yankees it’s getting harder to hate them. Like, when we’re playing I tend to feel a deep-seeded loathing for the Sox, but when it comes to discussing the baseball world at-large the Sox and the Yankees are often in the same boat together.
The Phillies are also starting to be grouped with them as the evil superpowers of baseball.
Eh, not quite yet. They’re formidable, but they’re also winning, so of course they come to mind more. I think of like this:
Yankees
Red Sox
________
Cubs
Mets
Braves
Phillies
Dodgers
Angels
Blue Jays
___________
Everyone else
Kind of inaccurate, but you get the picture.
Can we please hit John Lackey?
Pretty please with sprinkles on top?
The Boston envy of the Yankees and NYC has gone on for years.
Boston with 2 lousy WS Championships since 1918 is a disgrace. What’s laughable is John Henry is forced to spend money he’d rather not spend in chasing the Yankees.
Extra Innings is Boston feed, come on MLB network, anyone but them.
I’m thinking it might be Bob Costas and the MLB crew… Or, I should say, I’m hoping it might be Costas.
me too
FUCK! NESN feed
Ugh.
heres the deal….Sabathia has to win this game. You cant be called the ace of a staff and have a horrible record against its number one rival. He has to show tonight that he can shut this team down. Yankee greats are always compared to the way they perform against the Red Sox
I wont say win but pitch very well. He could only give one run in seven innings and we could lose.
Against Lackey?
That or perhaps the bullpen might blow up as it has done against the Sox
When did they blow up? The only time that happened was that ONE Mo blown save. It was a big meltdown, but the bullpen has been good against the Sox this year.
Didn’t it happen in May or near then?
Robertson gave up a few inheirited runs.
That, IIRC, was after that game was pretty much out of reach. The problem against the Sox has been the starters.
Agreed, but anything can happen.
6/9 CC started 7th inning up 2-0, left with 2 outs with 1st and 3rd down 4-2, DRob let both runners and one of his own score. Yanks lost 8-3. But CC had already blown the game before the bullpen became involved.
I’ll give you that, we still need to factor in the “Girardi effect”
Well, that means I use the Sterling/Suzyn radio feed, with a muted tv. It’s a bit like poor man’s time travel.
How you could pick Suzyn over anybody or anything is completely beyond me. Strokes, folks.
Unless your name is Randy Johnson, of course.
‘Yankee greats are always compared to the way they perform against the Red Sox’ = complete bullsh*t. Perhaps you haven’t received the gist of the conversation re: Red Sox fans are more infatuated with the Yanks than vice versa…
I’m hating the coverage on MLB Network already. God. Shoot me.
I have faith in CC.
i’ll be skipping this game thread in the interest of sanity
it’s my birthday so i’d like to request a win
IMO you can usually tell right away when CC isn’t right. Once he starts missing high and away to RBH early in the account he always seems to lose it.
*count.
special thanks to the schedule makers for giving us one sox series in the middle of the week. no fox/espn only broadcasts.
I can’t stand either, espn more than fox. Both make irregular times: four for fox and eight pm for espn. I’ll take Michael Kay and o’neill over any of them.
Kay is way too excited for this game.
Would have been a nice way to start the game.
SIR CURTIS WOULD NEVER TELL A LIE
what happened? i just see an on-field delay on gameday
Pitch hit Grandy’s hand and possibly the knob too. He wasn’t awarded first base.
I’m not even surprised that this happened in Boston.
I leave for half a second to get a drink and there are already two outs? Way to make Lackey work assholes.
It seems like the Yankees have been impatient all season against the red sox. Do they see less pitches against the Red Sox then anyone else they face?
It’s almost like the Red Sox are a really good team or something o.O
justice needs to be served with a big fly
I hate this series already
Yeah seconded.
No Yankees-Red Sox game is without controversy/the homicidal screams of the Bostonian masses.
It looked like the ump might have been right. It might have hit off the knob.
But bad start so far.
His glove was definitely hit there.
I’m just happy that Curtis didn’t end up with a broken finger or hand. Bullet dodged.
WHO IS THIS UMP
The ball hit the hand and the knob and Curtis should have been awarded 1st base. If a similar close call comes up in this game it’ll go the Red Sox way as usual.
And you nailed it, RD.
CC needs to drill one of these motherfuckers. I’m sorry, I know it’s disadvantageous, but they recklessly throw inside every fucking game with no repercussions. Save one HBP by CC.
I also second this.
Thanks CC.
if that was intentional, it was incredibly stupid
I doubt it was intentional though
Honestly I could care less I hate Ellsbury but yes putting the arguably best baserunner in the game a free pass would be stupid.
Not just any MF. Hit big papi and agon and everyone else so long as the bases aren’t loaded
Think he heard?
I expect Granderson to get plucked at least twice in this series. Red Sox pitchers have been hitting the best Yankee players over and over for years.
1-2-3 down on 6 pitches by John Lackey. Yup that pretty much sums up our unluckiness/suckiness against the Red Sox this year.
Roger Clemens, Randy Johnson and Greg Maddux. That’s some seriously high-end company.
Damn.
That didn’t hit Elisbury, it hit the bat!!!
Ellsbury isn’t black so he’s telling the truth apparently.
LOL RACISM IN BOSTON LIVES.
See I could dig checking the bat if it was chipped since it hit it but checking Granderson’s hand if he actually got hit is idiotic. But it’s in Boston so I am also not surprised.
That should show them, don’t hit our best player. Good work, CC.
sooooo Jacoby got hit? reallllllly?
nice CC
On purpose?
I can’t imagine. It’s not like you can intend to hit someone in the elbow. Even Lackey’s pitch wasn’t bad. Both inside.
EXCELLENT.
Problem is Ellsbury can steal. Hit AGon.
hit them both.
I’m all for throwing at the Sox, especially after all the years of constantly getting drilled, while pussy ass Torre demanded nothing by way of retaliation, but I don’t like putting Ellsbury on as the lead off man with a 1-2 count.
Doesn’t matter, so long as they got the message. It’s probably Kevin millar under the ump mask
And Peter Gammons with the 3rd base duties.
Pete Abe covering 1st AND 2nd
Eh, I don’t think it was much of a message. Didn’t look like CC was throwing at him at all. Inside pitch that got away. I understand that sends a message that he’ll work inside, but you really want to send a real message you throw some direct heat up by his head.
Nice throw, Jeter.
Right on Jeet’s sore knee.
Yeah, now THAT’S how the Yankees have been this year. -____- Inexplicable.
YES!
nice K
CC being aggressive. Inside, outside baby. I love it. Time to get mean.
Just don’t miss inside to this midget.
where was that 1-2?
Where was that?
Where was that????
huh? where was that?
Lookin’ good CC.
Where the F did the last pitch miss?
what a gritty K
CC is African American he is incapable of grit.
/Red Sox logic’d
Hahaha I wish TSJC was here for these jokes…
Nice
Those hr numbers vs the Yanks, by Papi, Pedroia, and Elsbury, were pretty grim.
Means they’re due for some regression.
I vote Arod.
Teix is due for some HRs, he needs to catch up
They all say he has very high baseball i.q. and a good sense of the game’s history. I’ll go with him too.
Didn’t know Lackey had 94mph in him
It wasn’t 94. ESPN hacked the YES broadcast.
I know I’m late to the game on this, but I’m at work, so I can’t help it.
The ARod injury bug is just something I believe we’re going to have to deal with for the next 6 years. I mean, at this point, I don’t ever expect him to play 140 games a year again, maybe not even 130, even if he’s just a DH.
I just hope he can keep producing when he’s healthy.
And I guess the bigger question is this: If it’s true that Montero can’t catch, and that ARod’s probably got 2 more years at most in the field, and that Teix is around for 5 more years, isn’t this going to make trading Montero a necessity at some point?
Posada cuz he can do the pitching and hitting side.
Let’s go Swish
Swish
SWISH!
and now the blast
or dribbler
ugh Swish you missed Lackey’s head.
Hit one off the monsta wicked haaaaaad!
BABIP ftw!
LOL so gritty, so so so gritty.
but fuck yea CHAVSTACHE
Well done, right up the middle! Let’s get at least one more here.
swish heads up base running
any second baseman taller than 5’3″ would have turned 2 on that play
LOL Lackey’s reaction
Really NESN dooshes? Eric Sha-Vez?
That is his preferred pronunciation
Source: http://articles.sfgate.com/199.....ric-chavez
Thanks, I stand corrected. Why don’t Yankee anouncers know this?
Pedrioa has so much range, and is so gritty, and is such a good fielder….oh wait…
If Jorge hits into a DP, I’m going to break something.
steady
DUCK!
Hooray!
Please don’t break something you find valuable, it’s not worth it.
Jorge 2011 is like Mush from Bronx Tale. Enough already.
Fuck.
Not even Dustin Pedroia could grit out a catch there, maybe he would have had energy to reach the ball if he did not jump up and down like a jack ass before every pitch.
Lackey is trying to be first on the list of people I won’t care if they get hit hard by a line drive.
sooooooooo slooooooooow
ugh, Jorge your so slow
Well, that was predictable.
Lackey is such a baby. If I’m Pedroia I’m punching him in the face when I get to the clubhouse for showing me up.
Gamer.
Geez Jorge is so slow
I can run faster backwards while taking a shit.
Argh!!!!!!!!!!!
God damnit, how could he not beat that out. Of all the people.
So I found out that the steel company I work for provided the beams for the new Sox spring training facility in Ft. Myers, FL. I was sad…
However, we are providing steel for the Freedom Tower at Ground Zero so it’s all good…
could you bury a Yankee jersey at the site?
Fucking Posada
Posada needs to be put down.
you mean like Barbaro?
Exactly like Barbaro.
maybe if he fractures a sesamoid in a few places – but I’d like to see him saved for stud duties
Why not something like this?
yeah, but can he hit a curveball?
Fuck Jorge, anything but that.
“Posada is simply not blessed with speed”
Uh yeah, that’s one way to put it
Okay, please DFA Jorge now. It’s time for the Jesus.
You’re not a “real” Yankee fan.
Montero could have done that
No he couldn’t have. Jesus breaks baseballs, not bats.
I can always count on Jorge Posada to ground into a DP in a key situation. I’d rather him take the strikeout and give the next guy a chance to do something.
that fastball is looking real nice
CC angry.
ZZ is rockin’ and rollin’.
CC didn’t like his 0-4 record, either.
I just get sadder and sadder each night posadas name is in the lineup…
Big Papi < Big Poppa
Ed Rapuano is being a major twat behind the plate tonight.
CC: Man on a mission
wow….fuck this ump
where are those missing?
Positive: CC looks good so far, even if it is really early. Btw, does anybody else here what I can only describe as something like a dial-tone on My9? Or is it just me?
Fucking ump
nice zone we got here tonight, jeez
those were three K’s ump call it right dammit
Didnt Orel Herschiser say that it is tough to get a called strike at Fenway?
And that means…
Especially for the visiting team.
Well its a little known Redsox tradition to blow the umps before the game in order to get a favorable K-zone
Would that be Gammons first in line?
Probably, considering Orel Hershiser says the stupidest shit.
that at bat was seriously all about the ump putting Lowry in a hitters count. Should of been 1-2…not 3-0.
“pedestrian”?. That’s quite generous.
Yankees-Red Sox games, where the strikezone is the size of an acorn (for the Yankees).
Cervelli offers no upgrade over Montero, none.
Don’t fight it just makes it hurt worse.
god damn it. they are not biting on the breaking ball…but are missing the fast ball…cmon CC throw it until they prove they can hit it
Cervelli, please learn to put your body in front of the baseball.
Stop showing Crawford respect, please.
Yeah, the friendship hurts Carston more than Carl
.385/.385/.462/.846 vs CC this year
.195/.250/.322/.572 vs LH Starters this year
C’mon Frankie, you can’t give the Red Sox free bases.
3-2 single.
0-2 walk.
Come on CC get your shit right.
This is getting bad very quickly.
no.
stubborn….blew two fastballs past crawford then tried to get him to chase 4 curveballs and walked a guy who DOESNT WALK
Of course Carl Crawford has a good at-bat against a left hander when he’s been horrendous for 99.9% of this year.
CC’s fault.
too many pitches
Ground ball plz
I’ll take that. now get McDonald out.
There we go CC.
So, looks like CC might get 5 innings in.
He’s not a normal pitcher. 120 pitches to CC is 100 to most pitchers.
He’ll need more than 120 for 5 pitches at this rate.
5 innings obviously…
Not to mention that is somewhat of a myth as he gets slapped around pretty good in late innings and when his pc gets over 100.
Well, we don’t want him to make it to the 7th, where he has imploded a couple of times this year.
Random thought: It’s crazy how different peoples’ expectations would be if you said on the one hand, “I’m bringing my buddy C.C. over for dinner,” or said on the other “I’m bringing my buddy Carsten Charles over for dinner.”
If you said “C.C.” my reaction would be “OMG C.C. DEVILLE, GUITARIST FOR THE BAND POISON???”
cant hit the fastball….changeup has struck out 2 batters…sooooooooooo lets throw 7 curveballs in a row
Watch this fucking scrub hit a double.
I disagree with the armchair analysis that the key to hitting CC is making him work–we’ve seen Sabathia dominate at 120 pitches.
The key to hitting CC is having a lineup full of great hitters.
Or having CC not able to spot his pitches. Otherwise, even great hitters are looking at getting smoked.
this zone fucking blows and it’s killing CC’s pitch count
The guy behind the plate is a clown. All of these are strikes.
CC won’t be around long.
CC is getting squeezed.
ugh
I don’t like whining about the ump, but come on. He struck McDonald out twice in that at bat.
omfg!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Brooks has 3 pitches in the zone called balls.
http://www.brooksbaseball.net/.....evDate=830
come on this is fucking ridiculous.
bullshit call
This is bullshit. THOSE ARE STRIKES!!!!!!!!
Fuck this umpire
Fucking shit
wow….
Stop nibbling
Fuck!
When did the strike-zone shrink this small…I mean this is just getting crazy…
Since the baseball gods hate the Yankees this year. But of course any curveball or fastaball thrown by Lackey within 6 inches of the plate will be called a very loud strike.
Please hit this ump in the nuts with 95 mph fastball
This isnt makeing me feel better about our chances to win the WS.
Nothing will
Looks like we’re having one of those “don’t call ball 4 or strike 3 games”. Fun.
Looks like I fucked up where to end the quotes. Fun.
Wow. I’m visually fucken angry now.
Jesus, 50+ pitches in 2 innings? Horrendous.
Well, we can partially blame Stevie Wonder behind the plate.
Ever changing/unfair strikezone = Angry Yankee fans.
no damage except to CC’s pitch count. WTF ump.
Yup, inducing a ground ball if you can’t get a called strike is the way to go, CC
What’s the RAB record for # of comments in a GameDay thread?
For a game in total it was probably 3000+ for some of the playoff games with a ton of spillover threads.
Wow.
My guess would be 2009 WS game 6
Is there a record for a regular season game?
The 15 inning ARod walkoff game? Just a guess.
One, singular thread? Probably around 1,500. If you want to add up spillover threads, it’s over 5,000 probably, especially during the playoffs. We needed a new thread every inning in Game Six of the 2009 World Series.
Wow. Thanks.
The first pitch to Ellsbury was called a strike, I thought it looked familiar so I went back to the last at bat, the same exact pitch, same spot was called ball 3 to the previous batter. WTF?
Fuck this imppy looking ump.
Can’t watch. In California. Is the strike zone ACTUALLY as bad as the complaints would illustrate?
Probably not.
I usually don’t care about strike-zones, as long as they’re the same for both teams, but this guys zone is especially “hitter friendly.”
not really, he’s just not getting the borderline calls
http://www.brooksbaseball.net/.....type=7.gif
That was a clutch groundout by Tacoby Bellsury, so gritty….
Those New era commercials are awesome
CC is making himself work, by not attacking the hitters when he gets to 2 strikes. He is 0-2, 1-2 on nearly every hitter, but throws obvious waste pitches that they are spitting on.
You can’t expect them to swing at your 0-2 slider in the dirt if you have not shown any ability to throw it for a strike in the game, or have shown that every 0-2 pitch is going to be wasted way out of the zone.
They aren’t taking close pitches, or fouling off tough pitches. They are standing there as he nibbles his way to a full count, despite consistently overpowering them with fastballs when he does attack them.
I will agree with you to a point. He has been squeezed a bit though.
Oh he’s thrown the slider for strikes
THE FUCKING UMP AIN”T CALLING SHIT
Why is Cervy starting this game?
To torture Yankee fans.
I think that Giardi like starting Cervelli with CC because he’s the pitcher who least needs a smart game manager and a big offensive effort.
*likes
Because Micheal Kay knows what a bunt-able pitch is.
What was up with those comments appearing and disappearing at the bottom?
Hundred bucks says BG takwes this pitch
Gimme!
Good thing I lost to myself.
good ab by Gardner…make him throw
Question : Why couldn’t / can’t Montero/Romine skip AAA and be the backstop while learning the tricks of the trade? Cervelli never even had a full season in AAA and has played an awfully lot for a guy who can’t hit and can’t throw runners out. It seems unfair to those guys. Especially since Romine can hit and defend and Montero can hit.
Regular reps, blah blah blah, party line about development, blah blah blah. However, I don’t think that Cervelli plays any more than your average back-up catcher.
They could, but preferable you would like to see a player hit every level for at least a bit. Cervelli jumped AAA probably because he did not have the much upside and was only going to be a back up catcher.
Have Montero grow a faux-hawk and teach Romine to fist pump, then we’ll talk.
Do you grow a faux-hawk or just get one cut?
I think the WBC was big in his development.
That and the fact that Romine/Montero are not considered career backups and thus are important to get consistent ABs.
Gardy cannot buy a hit. UGH.
Gardner getting BABIP fucked
I know, right? Horrible luck. That first AB yesterday? Now today? Did he anger the BABIP gods?
Could this be ONE of THOSE games? Could it? I ask you, Yankee Universe, could it? Could it be?
Lackey’s not getting some close calls either.
This ump doesnt want to go home.
at least Jeter looks like he’s running well
not really
Dear NESN…Grandy =/= Cervelli
Meanwhile Doug Fister has a perfect game going against the Royals through 6.
Sweet. I have him on my fantasy team
And Jeff Francis has just allowed 1 hit.
Ya know Suzyn…
yes
Scutaro sucks as a baseball player.
thanks Scutaro.
Thank you Scutaro
SWISHALICIOUS!!!
Marco Scutaro = Not Gritty Enough
Fastball is now missing up.
haha, nice base running Scuturo.
Nice one, Mah-co.
WTF was Scutaro thinking?
he was thinking that Swisher usually throws lollipops
Hell, I probably could’ve thrown Scutaro out.
Trying to advance when the RF gets a 3 step running start into his throw is usually a bad idea.
he was out by only a few feet on a better than usual throw from Swisher
I’m sure their scouting reports say to run on Swish
still probably a bad idea leading off the inning though
Nice throw by Swish!
Lol Scutaro
We have to win this game with Swish going all Golsonian….
Well he sure didn’t overswing at that last slider.
Adrian Gonzalez needs Kevin Long.
he literally just destroyed texas last week. he’s ok
Or AJ Burnett.
Key out of this game right here in order to save pitches.
I am in class and I missed the run, what happened?
Cano walk, Swisher single, Chavez single off Pedroia’s glove.
Chavez with the ultimate seeing-eye single to knock in Cano.
Chavez hit a seeing eye single off the glove of PEDroia into centerfield, run scored.
I have an irrational hatred for Pedroia.
Its not irrational its quite rational. Its like hating Nazi’s. Its the right thing to hate.
You talking about Dustin or his brother?
Where the fuck was that?
Any time this ump wants to call the low strike.
Too many noodle bats in this line-up (cough Cervellli, cough Gardner).
This would’ve been my ideal lineup for today.
Granderson
Swisher
Tex
Cano
Montero (in my dreams!)
Jones
Martin
Chavez
Nunez (playing hurt is not cool Capitan!)
Jones hitting .189 vs. RHP
I don’t care. Its Andruw Jones. He’s been hot and he’s a brand name. Puts fear in the heart of a pitcher.
HOF HR hitter > Slap hitter with no power
I don’t think that the name Andruw Jones has put the fear into the heart of a right hand pitcher since he wore a Braves jersey.
Also “He’s been hot and he’s a brand name.” That Logic works the same way to keep Jeets in the line up.
Granderson being the best hitter should be 2 or 4 or 3 way before 1.
WTF is up with this strike zone? Good God.
CC could throw a beach ball right down the middle and he’d call it a ball.
61 pitches and not even 3 innings pitched. Bullpen better be ready tonight.
I wonder if Mertin’s abiliy to frame would help in this game.
same pitch same result
Okay that was nasty CC
CC has pwned AGon and Ortiz
CC is getting a ton of swinging strikes. He just needs to get a tad bit more economical.
I really don’t get why more pitchers don’t throw at Ortiz’s head? He such a jackass. He crwods the fucking plate and then he takes his long pompous ass trots between pitches. Fuck him. Really, we need a Bob Gibson type on any team in the league to bean him right in his fat fucking head.
Because this isn’t a video game and Ortiz has a wife and kids?
He also loves the inside pitches. He pummels them ovah the monstah.
They did it all the time back in the day, and those weren’t video games. Look, I’m not looking for anyone to get killed or even injured, but he’s putting himself in harms way with that stuff. Ok, maybe you don’t bean him in the head, but you at least throw a few high hard ones and make him think twice. If he keeps that shit up, then it’s assumption of risk and it’s on him.
It’s sort of like going to a weekend day game at Fenway all garbed out in Yankee gear and raucously cheering for the Bombers throughou. You are pretty much asking to get your ass kicked. It’s not right, and you may have a wife and kids, but you should have consider all that before you decided to cross lines.
(And no, I don’t condone the beating opposing fans stuff at all, I’m just saying. I do, however, condone some brush back pitches if you pull the shit that Papi does in addition to wearing all that body armor. He’s an ass.)
Nobody should ever go headhunting, but he does have a point that Ortiz rarely seems to get backed off the plate compared to other power hitters.
CC has 6 K’s already? Nice
Perfect game over for Fister. Gives up a single to Alex Gordon.
CC is looking pretty good out there tonight. The umpire is working him over on calls tho. Combine that with the Sox’ good eyes, he’s expending a lot of pitches over 3. We need him to get to the 7th.
We need some offense.
BTW, I don’t think CC drilling Ellsbury was an accident. It sent a message loud and clear, and early in the game. Lackey hasn’t really come too far inside since.
Also like me those lead off walks.
Good trivia questions. I’m gonna guess Maris/Yaz, Mattingly/Boggs, and A-Rod/Ortiz
DiMaggio and Williams in 1941.
Just realized I missed part of the question. Never mind…
Close but no cigar.
Lackey stop staring in at the umpire when you throw something 6 inches off the plate you fucktard!
I’m rather surprised they are not sending Grandy. Salty has not be solid throwing to second all year.
Tex making him work.
Got in on the hands.
Hooray, Tex popped it up. Something new..
Mr. pop up with another one.
Popup or strikeout, popup or strikeout. FU Teix.
Tex pops up #skyisblue
Does the infield fly rule only work with a runner in scoring position?
first and second or bases loaded with <2 out
Tex pops up.
In other news, water is wet
all that razzle dazzle and fouling pitch after pitch and we get a lame pop up to the shortstop. Argh Tex is so frustrating this season despite his great HR and RBI totals.
yay stupid wall helping us!
I wish Tex would remember how to hit against the sox. Last yeartheaverage disappeared, still with some power. Now there’s nothing left.
Robbie!
Atta boy Robbie!
Yeah Cano, fuck YEAH awesome baserunning by Grandy as well.
Holy shit was that a nice piece of hitting.
He is so strong going the other way, it is just ridiculous.
Good aggressive base running by Granderson and beautiful hit by Cano.
Scutaro’s arm looked like shit on that relay
I love the aggressive baserunning on the road.
Also, Cano is a fackin’ monstah!
Nice hitting Robbie. Great baserunning Grandy!!!!
2-0 Yanks. Let’s keep it going.
Wow, it looks as if the bloom is off the Tex rose on this board.
Fuck Teix.
Yankees really making Lackey work.
Joe West is somewhere going crazy.
what an AB from Swish
bravo Swish, bravo
At least Rapuano isn’t only squeezing CC.
Lackey could really use a low strike right now.
Swisher doesn’t get credit for that at-bat because there was NO PRESSURE!
Man I know their was some talk about the Yanks not picking up Swish’s option earlier in the year.
Sox would scoop him up like Al Aceves.
<3 Chavez
reply fail
The only place Swisher will be going this off season is to a more posh location in Manhattan.
Swish needs to bat higher in this glorious lineup.
2-0 breaking ball for a strike. Look to crush that and take his avg fb the opposite way.
way to swing at ball four.
nice way to make up for it
Just setting it up
I like this inning
chavez 2-2 2RBI singles. nice.
Posada 0-2 2 inning/rally ending GIDP…not so nice.
Chavez should DH when ARod comes back. Well unless by some miracle they call up Montero but still Chavez for DH.
Nice hitting Chavez. I guess he read someone’s recent article. 2 hits, 2 RBIs. Lackey is getting worked this inning. Luv it.
Chavy!!
Haha Lackey falls down trying to grab that
Nice to see Chavez finally finding some holes for hits again.
Chavez is a professional.
Chavez, Fatty, Sweaty all making legit contributions to the 2011 Yanks.
Cashman deserves a lot of credit.
FUCK YOU POSADA
NOT AGAIN.
Posada please just take the strikeout with a runner on first.
hip hip, oy vey.
Jorge…1st pitch db….niceeeeeee
Jorge is getting unbearable to watch
Getting?
Posada and Cervelli offer no upgrade over Montero. Not one.
Are you kidding me? Whatever will the Yankees do without Cervelli’s fistpumps?
Cervelli may be better defensively, I hope not, but the scouting reports seem to indicate that
You knew that would happen. But we got two runs this time.
Never seen that before.
can we bring up montero plz?
You’re breaking my balls here Posada
Jorge Posada-making the transition to Montero a more and more beautiful thing.
Hip Hip… fucking call up Montero please
i wish girardi would just tell posada, don’t swing the bat at all, let them strike you out on 3 pitches if they have to, but do not swing, you suck at the swinging thing now.
Jorge with the GIDP. If only ARod was healthy, Chavez would be DH tonight…
no he wouldn’t
Jorge’s been hot lately, Chavez has been ice cold
Jorge is a double agent for the Sox.
Grady Little disagrees
Two days until Montero. Two days. Can’t wait.
I really hope so. I really really hope so.
At least three days. I don’t see them bringing him up for one game here. I could certainly also see them waiting until next week when AAA is done.
I blame Girardi 100% for using Posada. No excuse at all for him to be in. He sucks. It’s over.
Who then? Jones is for lefty pitchers.
Jesus!
But he blamed Girardi. If you want Jesus, blame Cashman.
I’ll take Jones over Jorge for any batter right now
Nunez at third and Chavez dh’ing (or the other way around).
Or dh jeter and his knee.
I assume that Nunez is on the bench because Jeter is banged up and A-Rod is hurt.
Sure why not. I know the numbers say otherwise but Posada is just brutal.
A little piece of me dies every time I still see posada in a Yankees uniform still playing.
DFA Posada…NOW!! Get Jesus on the mainline and be done with the crumb bum already!
Thankfully Posada’s sorry ass is still in the lineup while they waste Montero’s ABs down in triple-A. Way to go, front office.
Can we please get jorge to just bunt when there are guys on base?
Fuck Posada… Get him out of here with AJ. Lackey can’t find the zone and he first pitch swings into a double play.
i can haz jezuz montero plz?
insert picture of cat here.
Cashman needs to find Jesus
He’d have better luck finding Buddah.
amen
Girardi should’ve publicly benched Posada prior to this series. It worked last time. So quickly, he reverted to what he was prior.
1:45 minutes into this game….and bottom of the 4th….gotta love yanks/sox
7th inning redbull
Nice Posada. Way to pad the lead. Seriously, you’re one of my favorite Yankees ever but you’re retirement can’t come soon enough. You’re lack of production and blockage of Jesus Montero are pissing me off.
Why the fuck can’t the Yankees get Carl Crawford out? Is it too much to ask?
Crawford has owned us this year
Guy can’t catch up to a fastball so CC hangs a breaking ball on the first pitch. Great pitch selection.
Hanging breaking ball
5 straight breaking balls to Karl Krawfid.
Crawford = CC killer
Yankee killer, everyone else he’s a victim.
Jesus, the only time Carl Crawford hits is vs the yankees
Seriously??? Fucking Crawford. Can he only hit vs NY this year?
Of course he gives up a homer to Crawford. It’s not like he has been trash this season. Thanks again Posada for killing two rallies.
I can’t believe I’m actually going to say this…I agree with Micheal Kay. If the pitcher is good enough, he should have every right to be considered for the MVP
BTW Fuckin Crawford.
Don’t melt down, CC.
Let’s hope this is not CC’s trademark implosion against the Sox.
Too many breaking balls to Crawford tonight. CC needs to stick with the hard stuff first, then go back to the off speed. Not the other way around, esp. vs. Crawford. He’s already walked him on off-speed stuff, and gotten drilled for a HR on the same.
Carl Crawford owns CC Sabathia this year. Despite having a sub .600 OPS vs lefty starters this year.
yea CC is dunzo, getting hammered by the 7-8-9 hitters, is he serious?
Hey CC. Try throwing a fucking Change up!
He’s starting to lose his control
Come On CC….
And this is the bottom of their lineup. He’s owning Ortiz and Gonzalez.
Come on brown bear, don’t fail us now
It’s one thing if Bautista isn’t considered by these guys to be the frontrunner, but to not even be in the conversation? WTFFFFFFF?
+2735023526
Is that number supposed to mean anything particular?
It’s the amount of times I’ve farted so far during this game.
No it was just me button mashing.
he’s not on a play-off team. I don’t think that should matter, but I think they’d all use that as a reason. I personally think it should be
1. Joey Bats
2. Curtis Granderson
3. Justin Verlander
4. Adrian Gonzolez
5. Pedrioa/Ellsbury
It’s a better narrative for this game if they just narrow it down and talk about a Yankee and a Red Sox player.
Except Verlander.
/ruining the narrative about the narrative
And it starts. This is what happens when you can’t come through with RISP. Wow.
Because 3 runs in 4 innings sucks.
When you are facing the Red Sox and you clearly had two big chances to score more, yes it does suck. If there is a player of the game Posada is the anti-thesis of that. Horrible situational hitting.
.500 BA with RISP is not coming through???
Against the Sox, in the Fens, yes, it’s “not coming through.” It’s vidtory or death in these games. Posada screwed up twice, the second was a big-time screwup. I’ve held off on the Montero wish (because of reports of his fielding), but no more. He should dh in place of Posada because he can’t do worse than Posada and may do much better.
the problem is not the whole offense. Only Cervelli and Posada drag the unit down. And the major problem is that the usual CC meltdown is coming anytime now
Fun fact: Nick Swisher since June 1st: .300/.417/.557 with 18 HR and 53 BB.
Or Kay, maybe its just CC Sabathia or just plain luck.
Thatta boy stick with the fastball.
A called strike 3!!!!!
That’s a huge pitch.
Beautifully nasty pitch. 96 on the outside corner. Let’s go CC.
This is a big at-bat. Gotta get Scutaro here.
thanks for the jinx Mike.
well CC still on pace for 18K’s
WTF was that pitch!!!
Maybe Marco Scutaro can hit like Marco Scutaro and ground out weakly one of these days.
Not here though.
You want sucky hitters to suck? Asking too much bro.
what is up with Scutaro and Crawford?
Should have walked Scutaro. He has owned Gonzalez.
Or CC could have just gotten Scutaro out.
Defeated by Marco Scutaro and Carl Crawford AGAIN! UNACCEPTABLE!!!!!!!!
It’s amazing how one pitch can effect an AB.
fucking CC.
getting beat by Carl Crawford and Marco fucking Scutaro
sox hitters know hes not getting the calls on the corners so they sit on a nice fat pitch down the middle to hammer
Posada’s righty split 2011 .350/.470/.820
Montero 2011 split in triple A .350/.471/.821
The only things that sucks around here is stupid, ignorant and ungrateful fans
Is this a month?
No it’s for the entire year. The people who are complaining are a bunch of whining idiots.
complaining about 2 double plays is legit though
So right. a -0.3 WAR is a one for the history books. DiMaggioian. Williamian. Bondsian. Ruthian. Not even this season is better than all of them combined. A -0.3 WAR, how wonderful.
Yeah no.
I should be more grateful that he quit on the team because he was cranky that things weren’t being done his way.
that has nothing to do with this conversation (and neither does Motero’s alleged attitude problems earlier this year). The only point is that Posada’s year vs righties in the major leagues has been no better or worse than Montero’s year in triple AAA. T
Sure it does, that’s my biggest reason for wanting him nowhere near this organization anymore. The fact that almost all of the production you’re referring to has come in two two-week spans with nothing the other 4 months is just a very close second.
He made one bad mistake in 16 years on the team which was immediately resolved and didn’t negatively impact the team. For this you want him nowhere near the organization? Montero and Sanchez have both had disciplinary problems this year. Should we get rid of them also?
Didn’t want to include last year because it invalidates what you’re arguing right?
why? what was Montero’s split vs. RHP last year? not sure how that would invalidate Posada being as good against MLB RHP as Montero in AAA this year anyways?
That’s not Montero’s splits it’s his overall triple slash. And if we’re taking out every time Jorge has sucked then I want Montero’s 2010 stats to be included.
didn’t realize those weren’t Montero’s splits
Montero 2011 vs. RHP 273/331/400
Posada 2011 vs. RHP 275/350/470
So Posada has been much better against RHP and at a higher level of competition
As far as taking out every time he sucked, wouldn’t that apply to both. They were both better last year. I’m only using the splits vs. RHP because they are facing a RHP. Posada would not be playing if they were facing LHP.
Yes I would imagine Montero’s stats vs RHP would be weaker. I’m not trying to start an argument. It’s just my opinion that Posada hasn’t been terrible in his righty DH role and killing him for a couple of bad at-bats is silly. JobaWockeeZ as he tends to do decides to introduce irrelevant numbers and bad sarcasm to create an arguement
You can throw in his Trenton, Charleston and Little League stats for all I care. The only points I am making is that Posada’s year facing righties is similar to Montero’s overall year in the minor leagues (both of their numbers are decent and not great). That and how immature it is to whine over a couple of at bats. If you want to disagree with me debate those points because those are the only points I made. Bringing up anything outside those parameters is just total bullshit and a very weak attempt on your part to create an argument.
fucking CC, you need to stop getting owned by crawford and scutaro
Scutaro and Crawford only hit the yankees..jeez they be batting .200 if they didn’t play us
The Red Sox really are unbelievably good. They’re quiet for most of the game and then, BAM!, bust out at any time when you make any mistakes over the plate.
Fuck this ump, he’s terrible.
He freaking hangs a changeup…….
Time for CC to beast up.
Scutaro-another Yankee killer. He killed Mo when he was with the A’s as well.
All anyone remembers is that one HR.
Would have been nice to have another run on one of those times we had 2 men on, but nope, Posada had to play and hit into two DPs.
Salty stole the signal there if you didnt see it by going to second on the fastball
Fulfin cheats
This is painful to watch. CC giving up these runs.
Posada keeping the sox in the game.
Stop the bleeding here…
I do not understand. CC has not struggled like this in previous years, and some of it is bad luck, but crikey, this is ridiculous.
CC Sabathia: better than you.
8 K’s!
Should have just walked Scutaro.
no, then Pedroia would be up with bases loaded.
No, he would be facing Gonzalez, who he has owned tonight.
Pedroia is in the cleanup
own or not, you NEVER walk Marco Scutaro to get to Adrian Gonzales
Wow!!! 3 Ks for CC vs. Gonzalez.
My favorite stat of the game thus far.
Wow, Did Crawford and A-Gon switch swings tonight?
This came is going until 1.
Cool! Now we have the noodle bats coming up for our half of the inning.
their noodle bats just scored 2 runs
I eat my words. Cervelli just hit a HR.
Way to go CC!!
Thank you CC
A shutdown game from here on out would be great for my confidence against the Red Sox for any starter. Please.
If we get out of this and hold the Sox to 2, 3 or 4 runs over nine innings, it will be pretty good. They score an average of over five per game.
At this pace, he only has one more inning left.
They are stealing signals again you would think that the yankees would pick it up.
It’s the Red Sox. CC is allowed to give up a couple runs.
CC’s already at 84 pitches after 4 innings. I’m thinking that he NEEDS to go at least 120 tonight. Important game. The offense needs to knock Lackey out of here.
He gets smacked around once he’s over 100 pitches. You push him that far and you’re begging for a repeat of the huge innings he’s already had against them.
Darnell McDonald though?
CC has A-Gon’s number this game
And this is only the top of the 5th…
More runs off Lackey please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
CERVELLIAN!
CERVELLI??
NOODLE BAT HITS A HOME RUN!!!!!!!
Cervie baby
Cerv’d
WAT
Holy fuck Cisco!
CERVELLI!
NOODLE BAT MY ASS
twss
Ha, of all people to hit a ball onto Yawkey Way.
Ha!
*landsdowne street
Frank the tank!
I still blame Cervelli.
Damn….someone was eating their wheaties today.
Holy shit!!! Cervelli????
I’ll take it. Cervelli goes deep.
Let’s take Lackey down right now.
Yanks are hitting toooo many homers.
/msm’d
You got cerved!!
He hit it out of the stadium!
Who needs Montero?
Who needs A-Rod?
We got C&C Hitting Factory!!!!
Wow, Cervelli clearing everything…very unexpected.
AJ may be shitty, but at least he’s never given up a HR to Francisco Cervelli.
he’s never had the chance
Cisco!!!
Sterling’s call??????
Gardy
I want him to get hot, this must be painful for him.
It’s excruciating to watch, I cannot imagine how frustrated he is right now. I’m frustrated for him.
Why is it that certain players go into slumps(jeter, Tex, Swish) fans get frustrated WITH them, but when other players (Gardner) slump they are frustrated FOR them. Not accusing you personally just asking a general question.
I don’t know, and that’s a good question. Personally, I’m not usually frustrated WITH/AT them. My guess would be it has something to do with expectations. Fans expect more from Jeter, Tex, etc?
Honestly, I’m the same way. I will never boo a player on my team, or wish for them to preform poorly. I know that even when AJ goes out there and sucks, He’s trying his hardest and it’s not working for him. Yeah it’s hard to watch but there is nothing I can do to help the player succeed, and getting angry at the player isn’t going to help anything.
not sure that’s true, plenty of people here were calling Gardner a glorified 4th OF earlier in the year, and plenty have defended Jeter, Tex and Swish even when they were struggling.
Gardy is getting BABIP fucked lately.
Teix has a 180mil contract and hits pop ups with the occasional HR mixed in.
Jeter is old, watching old people do anything, especially a competitive sport, is frustrating
Swish i dunno lol? he was really really putrid in the beginning of the season though. like beyond awful.
And Tex sometimes gets BABIP screwed as well. But there’s a lot of pop ups in there.
If I can tell a player is frustrated, then I’m frustrated for them. Jeter shows no visible signs of frustration when he’s not hitting but I’m sure he is just as aggravated as we, the fans are, because he knows what he is capable of, and knows how his body is letting him down.
In this case: Gardner came up through the organization and a lot of non-Yankees fans didn’t think he was an everyday player, so fans want him to prove himself.
As opposed to Tex and Swish, who were brought in from outside the org., and thus provide angry fans an excuse to bitch.
Lackey doing his best to make sure that AJ will still escape thursday with a lower ERA.
A Cerv homer and a Swish assist at 2B from right center.
Ya know Suzyn….
Hey guys, maybe it’s my TV but there’s some awful bug-zapper sounds. Is that from the crowd? What is that?
First pitch pop up. Thanks Tex.
Tex… popping up. GEE.
Tex and Jeets really working the pitch count. Nice work guys.
Another pop up? Shocking. Dropping his back leg again on hanging change ups.
AJ and Lackey are in competition for higher ERA’s.
Tex is a 3 true outcome guy: homerun, pop out, swing over a changeup.
Whatever, as long as he hits 30 out and plays gold glove defense I’m happy. It’s not my money.
It comes to this that with Tex’s swing. He has to hit it clean on in order to make good contact. When the ball is in on the bat or at the end of the bat, he pops it up.
Kevin Long needs to change him back. The 2 hands on the bat isn’t working.
The stance isn’t working.
I want 2— to 2009 Tex back.
Tex pop-up. Whaaaaa???
And Tex pops up on the first pitch…
Honestly might as well bench him in the playoffs. Y’all know damn well that he’s not going to do shit against the Red Sox. Pressure es no bueno for Senor Tex.
The other option is Jorge
It’s just an ugly fact we all must consider. I want to love Tex. Fuck, who doesn’t? The guy is golden, but holy hot peppermint balls, he’s simply NOT the All-Star the Yankees thought they were signing. I sign it off to pressure and spotlight. Takes a lot to succeed in NYC, maybe Mark just doesn’t have what it takes. Sucks to admit, but he hasn’t shown me otherwise in the past three years.
So 2009 didn’t happen?
Maybe my memory has abandoned me in my young age, but didn’t he hit like one bomb in extra innings against the Twins, was it? You can prove me wrong, but, from what I’ve seen through the past few years, Teixera can’t consistently handle big pressure situations/scenarios. And, I know this is your blog essentially, but what an asinine question . . . Of course 2009 happened.
.267/.366/.520 OBP .886 107HR 330RBI 4.6WAR(per year)
I’d have signed up for those numbers when we signed Tex if that’s what I was told we were getting.
I expected more along the lines of AGon’s present performance, perhaps with a tad more long balls in the batch
I think your expectations are a little unfair, the only time he hit over .300 over the course of a season was a season that he spent time in the NL, and in 2005 in Texas(.301).
His ops is now under .450 againstthesox this year. I really like him, but his becoming more and more all or nothing with apparent adjustments is beyond frustrating.
Throw him a slider CC. Down.
I should be a catcher.
ZZ is on POINT
So far for both teams, the damage is being done by the bottom of the lineups
DP, bang bang.
yikes, a little squeezing…
just thinkin’ about 2 months of nothin’ from Arod at his salary. It’s enough to make me barf on pumpkin/sunflower seeds.
At least he won’t be “worn down” in October.
he was the best 3rd basemen prior to getting injured
Nunez has some serious job security.
Doesn’t it seem like the ump is wayyyyy more likely to call a strike when the batter takes off towards first as soon as the ball hits the catcher’s glove?
fucking awful CC
Bullpen now please
CC you’re making me angry. this shit is bananas.
Get the pen in there right now. CC’s gonna melt down again and give up the lead.
Choke job.
why wasnt he guarding the line?
why would he be???
Ugh….one of these games CC is gonne have one of those dominate games against the Sox’s….but in the meantime, this is just fustrating.
This umpire has effective changed 5 ABs for the sox with no strike calls in the first 2 pitches.
Chavez and jeter on the left side is some serious range deficiency.
Thank you for resisting the urge to play the infield in, Joe.
For once the binder is helping us.
Here comes a Carl Crawford HR
Thank you, Robbie!
About that bug-zapper sound. I notice it only when a bottom-of-the-screen graphic appears, sometimes.
huge out
Great play by Robbie.
Larry Bowa and Melky Cabrera must be sitting behind the Yankees dugout
The Red Sox are not making CC work, he’s is making himself working by fooling around with 0-2 counts and not throwing strikes.
If I were lackey, I would intentionally walk cano, swisher, and chavez, and let posada ground into a triple play on the first pitch.
Aight CC, put this sucker away!
Fist pump!
what are those morons doing in the dugout? lol
Thank you, CC.
10 strikeouts!
10 K’s, baby.
Huge!!!!!!!!!!!
WHEW
Wait a minute. Did Ortiz just pat CC’s ass as he was coming off the field?
Funny. I’m watching on DVR. I saw that and rewound. It looks like Ortiz bumped into him on purpose.
Interesting. I will have to tape the encore and take a closer look.
Congrats to Sabathia for reaching 200 strikeouts this season.
Whew. That’ll be it, not the best game but he held them to 2 runs. Wade and then Logan for Ellsbury. Hopefully Lackey’s out there for one more.
What a line.
5IP 9H 2ER 2BB 10K
The sox either hit it hard or strike out
Wow, CC bearing down to kill the threat. I’d still run him out there for the 6th. This is one of those games that will define the rest of the season. We gotta come out of this game with a win.
There have been over 200 pitches thrown in 5 innings…but only six runs. So many long counts.
These teams are mirror images of heach other. These lineups are so much tougher to get through than any other in baseball
They are honestly so much better than every other line up in baseball the difference is staggering.
Glad to hear Singleton confirm my suspicion that Crawford easily could’ve caught that ball without jumping.
Gardner makes that play blind folded.
Wade sits down, does this mean Girardi is going to the patented let the SP get himself in trouble, then call on the bullpen?
whatever it takes to put up a 0.. he got it done
109 pitches through 5 innings. Tons of baserunners, so many of the pitches he has thrown were high stress.
The next important inning CC will pitch is the first inning of the ALDS.
Take him out of the game.
Swish, y u no do this all year?
Jorge will NOT gidp 3 times in a row. He rocks.
Jorge is upset he cant GIDP again
Chavez doing him a favor.
I really think that the Yankees should pull CC.
It’s not about pitch count (as Axisa said earlier, 120 pitches is like 100 for him.) It’s about putting runners on base. If you’re going to have to go to Wade anyway, let him start with a clean slate.
I agree, but Joe’s gonna let him go out there anyway. What’s gonna happen is he’ll put McDonald on then let him pitch the lefty lefty to Ellsbury. If he gets on he’ll let CC try to get out of it against Scutaro and it’ll be tied. Then he’ll go to the pen.
The Yankees that made outs in that inning saw 4 pitches.
If CC comes out for the 6th, he needs an inning like the one Lackey just had. Fast, low stress.
Pitch count or first batter on gets CC outta there?
wait til CC puts 2 guys on, then call in the pen. the Girardi way.
The problem is with Burnett and Hughes to follow, the bullpen needs as much rest as they can. That’s probably Girardi’s thining.
Call-ups on Thursday, that game isn’t a problem. They have a lead, protect it. Sabathia can stay in through Gonzalez, probably.
CC told Joe: I got this Skip.
/lackey’d
“THIS IS MINE!”
he left cc in?!!!! is girardi crazy?????
Maybe the Yankees know they won’t sign CC after he opts out so they’re running him into the ground this year to ruin it for the next team.
lol…. .198 beast
I disagree with this. Not worth it. Only something historic would keep the Yanks out of the playoffs. Having CC rested and at his best in October (and everyone else, really) is a higher priority than winning the division. Putting up a incredibly high six inning pitch count is not in CC or the Yank’s best interest.
He’s on an extra day, and 120 is like 100 for CC, I’ve got no problem with it.
He’s thrown a lot of innings and a lot of pitches before, and while we might call him a horse, he is actually a human being.
Remember the ridiculous run he went on in ’08 that got Milwaulkee into the playoffs and probably made him 40 mil extra dollars? You remember how he fared in the playoffs that year? Not well. Obviously, we don’t know for a fact that he pitched poorly that game because he had thrown too many innings down the stretch, but even CC seems to think it played a role.
My main point is that the focus now has to be on the playoffs. Barring something completely out of the ordinary for any non-Met organization, the Yanks will make the post-season. Just because CC can throw a ton of pitches in a regular season game, doesn’t mean the Yanks should let him throw a ton of pitches.
Not until the leaves start changing colors, anyway.
^^This
Nifty play by Chavez.
way to go, not Nunez.
Solid play by Chavez. He’s good if he can actually get to the ball
the man can really play D
Yankees Achilles heals….no name pitchers and sub .200 hitters
Colon starting on “binder day.”
Kay made a funny!
Yankee Stadium binder day was by order of Joe Girardi.
Amazing Arod has missed so much time due to pounding his glove in the dirt on a grounder to him at 3rd…
He sprained his thumb, had an MRI and a cortisone shot.
Do those cortisone shots hurt?
as a person who’s had one, it hurts like a bitch
Never had one in the thumb, but two in the hip, and yes. Also they take a day or so to actually work.
I hear they hurt like hell and leave you sore for a day or two then you feel great after.
I’m almost sorry I asked, in case I ever need one.
My doc used to mix a little lidocaine in to give me some immediate relief. But it’s a big needle and it hurts going in.
Bah, that’s an out if the bat doesn’t break.
BABIP gods hate the Yankees.
I’m interested to see what Axisa writes about letting CC go this far.
I don’t have a problem with it, but Adrian has to be his last batter. Starting on extra rest, figure they give him an extra day before his next start.
This has to be it.
Let’s go CC. One more and there are 5 boxes of Cap’n Crunch in the clubhouse.
terrible feeling about next pitch
96 MPH on the outside black, on the 127th pitch.
Damn.
YEAH CC!!!
CC! redemption.
Very nice CC. That’s a boss outing right there.
He’s such a fucking horse.
CC is a grown ass man
GOOD BOY, CC!!!!!
Good job big guy
Ace, baby.
Hell of a job by CC. That should quiet the idiots. Now our elite bullpen needs to get the win.
gutty CC!!!! in and out of trouble with a whacked strike zone…did what an ACE was suppose to do…130 pitches…BEAST
fuck yeah CC!
very shaky, but can’t really complain too much about 2R, 6IP against Sox
nice game by CC
Check the binder Joe under the section on Walter Johnson-leave CC in for 175 pitches!
Great fucking job by CC. Ace stuff. So underrated even by Yankees fans.
Now hit the showers and let the bullpen close this one out.
CC is the most underrated pitcher in baseball. No question in my mind.
YEAH CC. This wasn’t a “dominant” start against the Sox, but I think if he had a more pitcher friendly ump behind the plate, it would’ve been a much different game.
lets get fucking CRAZY
Well this just got interesting
lol so classy.
It’s been a while since this type of shit happened. Yay.
That was intentional. We need to retaliate. Soriano blast Ortiz in the back.
and that was intentional. Stay classy Lackey, you so belong on the Red Sox.
He just earned his next 0-15 there. We’re lacking there.
requirement to be a Sox pitcher: be a total d-bag.
CC – what a warrior. Man do we need this guy to win here. We’ll need Soriano, Bruney, Robertson and Mo to finish this off
BRUNEY!!!!
Haha! Of course I meant Logan. Pointless now with the HBP
what a dbag
CC looks pissed.
Don’t mess with the big fella
CC needs to come out for the 7th, for the specific purpose of drilling Ortiz with a 96 mph in the ribs. Fuck it and fuck them.
Ortiz will walk down to 1st. He can’t fight.
Pedroia’s up first, tough to hit that small of a target
Are you serious?! Papi(your team mate) watches his homers all the way into the seats, but if Cervelli celebrates he gets plunked?
Larry? wtf did he do?
That’s fine, I’ll take a free baserunner to lead off the inning with the top of the order due up.
Now, tell me again why we shouldn’t throw at Ortiz’s head?
Because hitting him in the head is dangerous. Plunk him in the back sure, but you never EVER throw at another players dome. They are people dude.
Fine, hit him in his back between in his numbers. You don’t necessarily have to hit him in the head. Shoulder, between the numbers, neck, whatever. Just throw at the fat fuck. He deserves it and they’ve been throwing at the Yankees for years.
Lackey is shit, but he’s not wild shit like that. Intentional, no matter how stupid it was to do it there.
Someone has to explain to me why Sox pitchers never get thrown out of games for hitting Yankees.
It is unbelievable. Seriously, when was the last time a Sox pitcher got ejected for hitting a Yankee?
They do it all the time. All the freaking time.
He drills Cervelli on the first pitch after Cervelli f*ing cranks one on him. Yeah, that’s not intentional. Get the f outta here.
We don’t want Lackey tossed.
Shhh…
If Francona isn’t smart enough to get Lackey out of the game, let’s not encourage the ump to do it for him.
Cervelli really trolled Lackey big time.
I hope he claps his hands again when he scores this inning
They threw at Cervelli for clapping his hands? Ortiz does that all the time. What BS. Take the run, have Soriano drill Ortiz in the back.
Bullshit! Put CC out for one more batter…
I’m with Ken Singleton: I don’t care how pissed you are, putting Cervelli on is just about the stupidest thing you can do.
I mean, I know he hit a homer in his last at bat…but it’s Frankie Cervelli! Just come at him!
Speaking of which, why the heck is Lackey still in this game anyway?
time to score 5 runs and put this shiz outta reach
I finally figure out why I hate Lackey so much. It is because he is the ugliest person on the face of the planet.
David Weathers says hi.
Not even the ugliest dude in that rotation, that’s the fucked up thing.
Hmm, I am not sure what I want more, a line drive right to Wegners head or a fastball right at Ortiz’s head…
please don’t bunt 3-0
never mind, I’ll take it
(still dumb though, IMO)
But on 3-0 Girardi!
And it worked.
Lackey should have been tossed. that was just fucked up.
If Cervelli scores because of this he is instant player of the game.
*gets plunked*
MAMA HUEVO!
i mean score 4, then Jorge can hit into a double play and end the inning
Please let Gardner run right now.
Goddamn fucking bunts!!!
Wait…
Gardy with the bunt!
Nice Gardy, Nice
Please hit a 2-run double down the right field line Jete.
If both sides haven’t been warned, I don’t mind putting CC in for one more batter. Heck, if he gets suspended, so what? Forced rest during games that don’t matter.
Don’t give them free baserunners. Scoring a bunch of runs is the best retaliation.
that and clapping your hands when you score
You are, of course, right. Ignore my intemperate comment.
Why is Jeter swinging??? Let Gardner take 2nd, THEN swing.
Hit and run attempt maybe.
extremely unlikely with a runner on third
And that’s why Gardner should’ve gone early in the count, with Jeter holding the bat on his shoulders. Alphabet man can’t throw out Gardy, plus if they throw through Cervelli could score.
But….hesitance led to a DP.
We still scored, but…..could’ve been more.
he ran on the second pitch, not his fault Jeter wouldn’t take one strike to let him go.
I think that’s the first pitch below the waist that’s been called for a strike tonight.
I don’t get not running Gardner here.
They’re trying to.
They took a pitch off. There’s no reason to take a pitch off.
Yankee bias aside.. I would’ve hit Cervelli as well. Just wouldn’t wanna jeapordize a ballgame like this where I’m trailing 4-2 and haven’t exactly been in a groove on the mound all night.
Sooo …
Soooo.. that’s my opinion.
RBI of shame FTW
That’s not an RBI.
Gardner should’ve been on the move…
baseball “discipline” is so stupid. You get drilled for clapping your hands after hitting a big HR? No, no, can’t actually show any emotion, that’s grounds for getting a rock thrown at you.
That shit only plays in the AL, where bitch-ass pitchers have no recourse. In the NL, Lackey himself gets “accidentally” drilled.
I’m glad CC drilled Ellsbury and I hope he comes back out to drill Ortiz.
I mean DJ grounding into a dp and killing the inning because they couldnt just let Gardner run and take away the twin killing
Run still scores. And Lackey hurts himself.
At least Cervy scored
Thanks for the insurance run.
Not a very smart man that John Lackey.
At least it scored a run…
That would have been funny if Cervelli clapped his hands when he scored on the DP.
Grandy’s nailed two of the three true outcomes…
Why can’t jeter take a pitch to let Gardy steal? They are not gonna throw down. Jeter and his ego.
He was going for the hit and run the first time.
The second time he was protecting the plate.
It’s not an ego thing.
It’s a “try to put the ball in play with a runner on 3rd” thing. The steal call wasn’t coming from the dugout, so Jeter’s gotta swing if he sees a pitch to hit, whether or not Gardy is taking off.
Hey John, how’s that bullet in your foot doing?
they are gonna kick themselves big time for getting 1 run with 1/3 0 out with a tired frustrated SP.
Jeter should have let Gardner steal on the 1-0 pitch.
Stupid.
They were going for the hit and run.
you don’t hit and run generally with a runner on third. I’m sure they were both on their own.
You absolutely drill Ortiz if Pedroia makes an out. Pedroia would happily eat it; Ortiz very obviously does not like baseballs aimed at him.
right, put on a potential run in a close game, just for pride’s sake. I don’t disagree that what Lackey did was bush league, but you take the high road here and just play to win the game.
Kay: “7IP 5 runs isn’t a bad start for someone with a 5.98 ERA”
7IP 5 runs = 6.42 ERA
Math isn’t Micheal’s strongest subject.
Michael Kay, bad at math.
+1
I think he was focusing more on the seven innings pitched, since he normally doesn’t go that deep into games. But I agree that was a stupid statement.
They should seriously make Lackey pitch with a bag on his head. HD is not your friend when he starts.
Somebody’s gotta retaliate. I’m tired of sitting back and not doing anything. CC’s the only one who throws at their players. Get 2 outs and drill someone in the back.
Winning the game is the best retaliation.
Completely agree. CC’s the only one with the nuts to protect his batters. Sometimes, the baserunner doesn’t matter. Lackey obviously was throwing at Cervelli.
guess DRob is unavailable, Wade is coming out for the 7th
why cna’t beating the redsox be easy and not stressfull
I love Kay’s logic there, when you come in with a 5.98 ERA and pitch well enough to RAISE his ERA, he did pretty well. Nice Michael.
I’d rather get the win then start plunking batters. Please just get the last 9 outs before 11.
*than
Where’s Soriano?
Has he/DRob worked alot recently? Maybe one is getting the night off?
I think DRob isn’t available tonight, so Soriano is the 8th inning guy.
Robertson is getting the night off. Not surprised.
“Appears that Wade got warned by the umps. No funny business. #nyy”
yea because Wade was really planning on plunking PEDroia with a 78mph curve.
Reliever who throw primarily soft stuff vs. Red Sox heart of the order. I don’t see this ending well.
Wade’s been solid all year…I’ve got faith.
If i was cashman id have burnett hit every batter on thursday until he is thrown out and girardi is gone. Lets man ban or phelps finish the game against lester.
When Burnett tries to hit the corner he leaves it right over the middle.
So if he tries to hit every batter, will he hit every corner?
Great now its gonna be ANOTHER series filled with the “will they or won’t they retaliate?” narratives. Because that didn’t get old quick enough the first time.
Hah. Hadn’t seen the clap on the plate. I would have hit him too. But thanks for the insurance run !
Are you fucking kidding me with this striekzone right now, ump?
still love these DBags bitching about Cervis celebration after the home run when yankee fans have seen years of Manny and Ortiz staring down pitchers and showboating their homeruns.
Jerry Remy just mocked Cervelli for celebrating when he has “what … 3 career HRs?” Jerry Remy HRs over a decade long career? 7.
Wade won’t get another strike called this at bat.
Ump has been tight with the Strikezone all night.
fing strike zone!!!
this umpire is fucking awful
Why did Rothschild get tossed?
Arguing something after Cervelli got hit
Thank you.
who’s worse at reading balls? Kay or Sox fans at Fenway?
Trick question: IT IS HIGH … IT IS FAR … IT … IS … played by Aybar on the outfield grass for the second out of the inning. I tell ya, Susan, …
Drill this motherfucker right here.
Just high enough
“DRIVEN DEEP TO CENTER…and caught”
for once, i’m good with it.
I’m trying to be as impartial as I can be when I say this but : WHERE IS THE FUCKING STRIKEZONE?
Bring in Logan please.
Another fucking soft ass single.
All up to Logan now. Too bad Drob isn’t available.
Failure by Cory Wade.
why is corey wade pitching today?
ro so mo plz
DRob has pitched the last two games in a row.
DRob pitched 2x in a row. You know the rules.
They dont want to pitch DRob 3 days in a row
drob not available pitched 2days in a row. figure soriano 8th
Ah i hadn’t noticed drob did 2 days straight
good points, yall
I love how it’s no problem to make sabathia throw his most pitches since 2008, but they absolutely can’t use Robertson 3 days in a row.
lol and they still manage to bring the tying run to the plate… smh
Boone Loogan coming in…am I the only one whose afraid?
handle the bottom of the line up please.
1-2 count and you walk Ortiz.
you have a 3 run lead.
Pussy.
Cory wade really girardi wtf now one bad pitch ties it
this is the part where we blow the lead?
Figures….
When they are beating you so far this season by a count of 10 games to 2, AND they start throwing at your hitters, at some point, you gotta take a stand.
The baseball stuff will certainly work itself out, but fuck the turn-the-other-cheek-shit again. They are punking you repeatedly.
By the way, seriously, where is Soriano???
eighth inning
He has to pitch the 8th. Robertson in unavailible.
Lazy fat fuck …
Papi is sooooooooo slow
David Ortiz is the worst baserunner in baseball
Worse than Posada?
Jorge says NO!
Ortiz: worst kind of good baseball player.
thank god ortiz is a fat bastard
Hahaha fat Papi bailed us out there.
Bring in Soriano right now. That was an awful pitch.
grrrrreat
It seems against lefties at Fenway Park, our lefty specialists often come up lame.
Did all of our relievers make the trip?
I remember Boone once struck out Adrian Gonzalez in a big spot. I guess asking him to get Crawford out was too much to ask.
Please ground into a DP.
Can anyone say Salami?
I bet they villify Crawford for that look he gave.
no reason to throw anything up in the zone here
Did anyone see Ortiz clap he hands? He needs to pay!
Aren’t you supposed to be climbing the Dark Tower?
Go fuck your mom, Jarrod.
Classic Boone
Who threw those Sliders, Logan or Randy Johnson.
Salty looking like Sado.
I don’t get why he’s still pitching.
one more, boone…. one more
heres mr all star
BIG K by Logan…why is he facing McDonald though? is he a Switch Hitter?
They will pinch hit with Reddick, who is a much better hitter, if a RHP comes into the game.
A righty who would be in indy ball if it weren’t for semi-decent splits against lefties. This is such a weird fucking decision.
Ayala is the only option they would use. No thanks.
Or you could have brought in Soriano for the massive leverage situation. Logan versus McDonald worked, but it was a terrible percentages call.
(Better yet, you play the splits right and when you see R-L-S-L coming up, you bring in Logan to start the inning. Nitpicking here, but it seems like an obvious maneuver.)
who would you prefer?
DRob unavailable, so they won’t use Soriano until eighth
ANYBODY ELSE SEE THAT BUG THAT MADE THE SLIDER LOOK LIKE IT BOUNCED AWAY?
Gave me a fucking heart attack.
Yep
where the Fuck was that pitch man.
Bobby V actually just said this on BBTN:
“Their pitching is on the downcline.”
No joke.
Earlier today Doug Glanville and Karl Ravech agreed that the Yankees were starting their A lineup today because CC needed to get a win vs. Boston.
I’d ignore most of what BBTN says if I were you.
Lol, read my entire post closely. you’ll understand why i quoted him.
hint: i don’t go for analysis.
i go to learn insane words
Girardi squints in high leverage situations.
Weird observation.
Maybe Ortiz can score on a single now that the runners are going.
I dont like this spot here…
Fastball outside corner was absolutely the right pitch there. Just missed.
BOOM!
Great job, Booooooone
goooooooooooooooo fuck yourself
Boooooooooooooooooooooooooone
I fist pumped too.
BOOOOOOOOOONE!
FIST PUMP!!
GLORY GLORY!
Blew it right by him. Good job cleaning up the mess, Boone.
LOGAN SAVES THE DAY!
Oh baby!!!
BOONE FUCKING LOGAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you, kid!!!!!
That was a pretty good David Robertson impression
BoooOOOOOOOOOOOOON!!!!!
boooooooooooooooooooooooone
Logan gets a steak and blowjob tonight.
Blow Job???? More like a 3some with some bad bitches!!!!!
HELL YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!! Cervelli is pumped lol.
Fuck yeah Boone!!!
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONE!
New narrative: can the Yankees beat Boston without Boone Logan?
Yes! BLog rocks!
Fist pump? Cerv gets drilled in the head in the 9th.
At this point, I have no problem with Cervelli’s excessive fist pumping. Keep pouring salt in the wounds.
MAMA LOS HUEVOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSSSSSSSSS
Boone.
Respect.
Respect, dude.
Love this Boone.
Who is that guy wearing 48?
Cervi is gonna get beaned in the head for that last fist pump
Red Sox have left 13 men on base.
Finally, RISP fail from an opposing team!
I just clapped my hands. I hope I don’t get plunked on the way to work tomorrow.
Haha, watch your back is all I have to say. Lackey hates hand clappers.
Let’s not forget Fat Papi’s baserunning play.
Can you even imagine the uproar if A-Rod had done that?
close your tags people
We need a new thread. Getting close to 1,000 comments
If that was any other Yankee I would have been very pissed but seriously Cervelli fucking can it with the fistpumps.
Why are all the comments in bold?
pat broke the thread.
another pop up… yeesh
pop up king back on his game
Again. He needs perfect contact.
Sigh, Tex what has happened to you…
I think we know what Tex does this offseason. Lots of BP.
That’s what he did this past offseason to try avoiding the mind games his bad aprils were playing with him. who knows what’s to try this offseason. Maybe teach him how to recognize a change up every so often? Or how to hit a ball the other way?
we need this game, cause the next 2 are pretty much unwinable with Hughes and Burnett going
No matter which way you slice it (or pop it up) Teixera is GOOD!
Tex pops up. #anotherdayattheoffice
Another pop-up, Tex?
If you give me a penny for these popups from Tex am I a billionaire?
Id leave Logan in to face Ellsbury only.
bold comments fo free
He is consistent…
I wonder what percentage of Tex’s at bats as a lefty have ended in:
1. A groundball to the right side of the infield.
2. A HR to right
3. A Pop up
4. A strikeout punctuated by swinging over the top of a changeup.
I’d much rather face Texas in the first round than face 1. Verlander twice, or Weaver/Haren/Santana. That’s just me though.
Even if Verlander wins game one I don’t them fighting til game 5 with that rotation.
Same here.
I genuinely think that the Yankees should beat any of the 3 with relative ease though. You never know what will happen in the playoffs, but New York and Boston are a cut above the rest of the AL this season.
Long needs to take Texeira behind the woodshed and knock some sense into him…time to fix that swing…i want more line drives…these popups are bush league.
welcome to the strike zone bitch
Cano…just beastly
Robbie!
I watch Cano hit all day and night….
Robbie’s at bats
Mark Teixeira… RED SOX KILLER!
Seriously, Sox fans must quiver when he steps into the batters box.
Who remembers that game that Coney pitched? Haha, that was fun.
Leiter*** wow absolute brain fart right there.
If there is a baseball god, he would let Cervelli hit another moon shot to the Monster seats and practically walk around the bases. That would make my night.
anyone else feel like Aceves is part canibal when he pitches against the yanks? i like the guy…but it makes me a little sick to see him wearing that God awful uniform. he gets that Donner Party look in his eye.
Doesn’t count, not a pressure spot!
The exception to the rule doesn’t disprove the theory.
A stopped clock is right twice a day.
The theory remains.
Swisher as Yankee high leverage split: .807 OPS, .352 wOBA, 115 wRC+
Not as good as his overall numbers, but certainly not bad
yea Swish is literally unstoppable.
Keep it coming!
Nick Swisher has been fantastic….
Swish….
i have the sudden urge to purchase some insurance…where is that chick flow with the “insurance runs” product.
yeah…i’d tap that…
Damn, Swish has been killing it lately.
dont understand the move of taking out Chavez for Nunez here. First it weakens the defense…second Chavy has a couple base knocks and ribbies tonight
Morales is a tough lefty. And it forces Francona to make a move.
Good move by Girardi. Forces Francona to bring in Albers who has struggled of late.
Wow. Showin Nunie respect with the pitching change.
nunez is balls
great one Nunie, christ.
Thanks for trying Nunez.
hey, hey, hey…it’s FAT ALBERS!!
yup great move….sure made Albers work for that out
Why, Nunie? Why would you swing at the first pitch???
jeez Nunie
Still like the move nonetheless.
That was a great move there to take out a patient hitter like Chavez and put in Nunez who popped up on the first pitch. Didn’t Chavez have a couple hits tonight? Let’s take him out and put in a worse hitter.
I would rather have Nunez against Albers than Chavez against Morales.
I bet Chavez finds a way to get the run in
Bet your life?
Nunez: 269/316/386
Chavez: 264/328/358
Your patient hitter swung at the first pitch in 2 of his 3 ab’s tonight.
Well at least we get Nunie’s glove in the game
lol
It’s ok Nunie, your still my favorite back up since Miguel Cairo.
A hip hip Jorge chant in Boston. Love it.
somehow I think Chavy being a vet. would have plated that run on third
But you cant say that for certain.
Fun fact: Veterans are 21,997 or 21,999 plating the run with RISP and < 2 outs.
(of, dammit)
Chavez had 2 hits already, was it really necessary to pitch hit Nunez?
Morales is a very tough lefty.
Albers hit Jorge freaking Posada to load the bases.
Good move by Girardi to force the pitching change.
I have no faith in Posada.
4.5 hour game easy…
gift
lol Albers gave away a free out.
That’s now 3 of our men hit vs 1 for them. Soriano needs to get 2 outs then drill Gonzalez in the back.
Winning >>>> hitting batters
they can hit Jorge all they want, they’re doing the Yankees a favor
I will punch 30 cats to see a Cervelli grand slam right here.
I will punch 40 cats and kick a poodle
I’ll match all contributions.
I will beat a newborn baby with a poodle.
A Cervelli grand slam would be one of my top 10 favorite moments in Yankees history.
I saw that happen already this year. In person. ‘Twas awesome.
it would be nice but 10 favorite in Yankee history?
Cerv it off the Monstah
this could be epic if Cervi does something big here
Hit a GS for revenge.
Why doesn’t Cervelli wear the abnormally large helmet anymore?
He was tired of looking like the alien from the Flinstones?
Isn’t that why he wore it in the first place?
I say Cerv leans into one and gets himself hit intentionally. He then fist pumps the Sox dugout.
Thta would be so epic.
Sox Fisted in Dugout!
News at 11!
I wish this spunky little fucker were good, he’d be great to have around.
Every time Cervelli pumps his fist, it just makes me miss Joba Chamberlain.
You know, that seems exactly right.
True Yankee(TM) moment Right here.
or not..
beh
Still like the move. ALbers was struggling.
What’s the record for most comments in a single thread?
Look up the thread where the headline was something like the Yankees are about to acquire a starter. There were like a million comments speculating who it was. It was Vazquez funnily.
Alright then. Time once again to play, How Many Red Sox Can We Put On Base?”
I’m the one eatin flavah-filled chicken in this fiyah house! Nawt you, nawt you, and nawt you!
This pissed me off enough to look into it, what with the YES announcers acting like Cervelli’s celebration warranted the HBP. Apparently clapping after a home run is only HBP-worthy if you’re not David Ortiz:
http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play......1&v=3
David Ortiz is an ambassador for the game…he’s the face of MLB…
Ortiz is hispanic and clapped once with his fists, that’s fine. Cervelli is white and clapped twice with his palms, that’s blasphemous.
Seems pretty clear to me.
lead off walk….greaaaaaaaat
Ugh come on Soriano….
Soriano saving whatever emotion he has inside of him for game 7 of the WS. Very stingy with his emotions.
Cannot fucking walk him there. Risk the HR, I don’t care, just throw a fucking strike.
Joba is gonna be so nasty when he gets healthy.
Great start Soriano.
Oh yay. More garbage strike zone.
not the guy to walk there..damn you soriano
GRITTYNESS!!!!!!
GARDY! oh yea.
Gardy >>>> everyone else
wow!
GARDY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That’s why Gardner plays every day. WHAT. A. CATCH.
Gritty Gardner wit da range
What a play!
2/3′s of the earth is covered in water, the other 1/3 is covered by Gardner.
VERY nice!
I laughed.
DRS
Brett makes it look so easy
soriano is balls
oooh gardy…….
huuuuge
Brett Gardner. Contributes even when slumping at the plate.
You can’t spell ‘Gardner’ without UZR.
Wait, what?
BIGGEST play of the game-and what an emotional outburst from Sori!
I love this outfield….speed on defense wins so many games
Kay, that was a can of corn
Do not walk Pedroia….throw it down the middle if you have too.
A little BABIP luck coming back our way… but damn… the Red Sox are a fucking TOUGH at bat.
So right. It is unbelievable how every at-bat is like a battle. 27 individual battles.
Good job Soriano and Gardner.
Hahaha Cervelli is trolling the Red Sox so hard tonight
4+ hour game here
Good job of bearing down, Rafie!!! That Gardner kid has some wheels, no?
3 more outs to go!!!
I know it’s been a long game, but come on Boston fans! Where are you guys going?
BABIP gods hates Gardner
Keegan Bradley is 5’6.
look what I found…
Man, I don’t know who’s been worse lately, Tex or Gardner . . . They have not been gorgeous.
but they are both so good on defense…
Gardy at least bunts. Something Tex cannot/does not do.
At least Tex has 35 home runs, something that Gardner cannot/does not do.
True. But for some reason I find the pop ups from Tex more aggravating. Probably the salary.
definitely Gardner, he’s done nothing offensively for at least 2 weeks now
Yeah, agreed. But the pop-ups from power hitters. THE AGONY!!!!!!!!
Apparently the BABIP gods hate jeter too
and cano fields that easily cause hes not 5’2
That’s OK. I’ll take Gardy catching that liner instead of Jeter’s hotshot going through the hole.
i love comparing the production from Gardner and Crawford and then looking that their salaries…that has to be the biggest disparity in baseball there…
Aaaalrighty then…
Great inning from the top of the order.
Got beat the traffic…and buy a new pink Sox hat.
Alright Mo, get these last 3 outs and make me sleep happily
Red SOx fans know the ending to this one.
Deh nah-nah-nah-nah, deh nah-nah-nah-nah, deh nah-nah-nah-nah, deh nah-nah-nah-nah-nah-nah-nah …
geesh..that was quick. i got up to take a crap and the top of the 9th was over
fuuuuuuuuuuuck.
Ofcourse, its never suppose to be easy….
Leadoff Double. Of Course.
Carl Crawford “Where was that actual running when you where on second?!”
Tex has to guard the line.
That’s more on the manager than anything else. Why Tex not guarding the line is beyond me.
again, why? you don’t play no doubles with a 3 run lead
He’s so fat.
gonna need a triple to score ortiz
kind of think Tex should have been closer to the line
Guard the line? Maybe? Keep the dp in order?
Naw.
So why don’t teams guard the line every play?
I’ve got to be honest. I am NEVER confident when Mo attempts to close out against the Sox. Tonight is no different.
I’ve got to be honest. I am NEVER confident when looking out my east facing window in the morning to see if the sun came up. Tomorrow will be no different.
that’s because the Red Sox are a great team. Is there anyone you would be confident with?
Is it awesome or a red flag that Mo is reinventing himself by working lefties outside?
Ya know…Mo has changed his patterns throughout his career. Whatever works.
with this strike zone? its awesome
Both. It’s good that he’s adjusting, but it’s bad that he doesn’t think the cutter is good enough to get these guys out.
Mo is often called the best pitcher in the game by ball players, and especially pitchers, and that’s because he changes his pitching patterns.
It’s awesome because it will impact how the Red Sox hitters approach him the next time.
love it…..hes making up for all the crap strike zone calls for CC
That’s a pretty legit “god fucking dammit” by Lowrie there.
Sit down Lowrie you piece of garbage. Cerv set up inside then moved out.
Shut the Fuck Lowrie…You guys have been getting alot breaks with the Strike zone all game.
up*
Nuni….STAY away from anything hit!!!
Hmm…guess the cutters is cutting.
That was more Moterian.
Stop worrying, Al. Mo is f’ing with their heads.
Hoping for a Cervelli clap…
I guess Robertson should be closer tomorrow with wade/Logan/Ayala setting up since it’s two straight now for rivera and soriano…
i’m as nervous as a whore in church…c’mon MO!
That should be a strike!
That hit the bat! That hit the bat!!!!!! Look for the bruise!!!!
great….tying run coming up
FIRE ALL THE UMPS
shit…Joe is pissed off.
These umpires are fucking Red Sox fans.
Good for Joe, what a joke.
Atta boy, Joe.
Jesus f’ing christ …
So I guess Saltalamacchia should be criticized too for embellishing. Maybe he should admit he swung at that pitch because he definitely did.
Saltalamacheater
what a joke
HE SWUNG! good lord these umps suck
His elbow is in the damn box, what a terrible call.
Screw hitting the Red Sox if Mo hits the umpire I will laugh. I don’t even care how wrong it is if that umpire is in pain I could care less.
fucking ridiculous
Girardi could totally bench press the whole umpiring crew.
“I get the ball; I throw the ball; and I take a shower.”
Signed,
The Greatest Closer of All-Time
THAT’S THE WAY WE DO IT!
Good game, fellas. Have a good night everybody.
Ballgame, bitches.
And it’s over. Thank Mo.
*also fuck you, umps
Thank god,yankees win
Joe should have spit in that umpires face. I hope he gets fired and never gets a job again. Starve for all I care you braindead POS.
I believe it is you who are the brain dead POS, sir.
ecks works for the Umpires’ Union, apparantly.
Trolls these days don’t even try anymore. =/
Even the regular gasket-blowers are pretty sedated tonight. I guess the team won by the correct number of runs, there was no stat-padding, and the game was correctly played by the troll rulebook.
Yanks played against 10 tonight….GREAT win!!!!!!
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
The hit-by-pitch was a b.s. call, but no matter. Mo closes it out.
Suck on that Boston! Lick my ass!
Sometimes you can’t lie, cheat, and steal your way to victory. Gutsy job by CC. Logan comes up big in a tough spot. Mo smooth as silk. A great victory.
Are you a blind piece of shit who doesn’t know your ass from a hole in the ground?
Then you just might have what it takes to be an umpire for Major League Baseball.
3:59 game time? Heh.
Somewhere Joe West is steaming, like the pile of crap he is.
A four-hour game with these two teams isn’t all that unusual. What is unusual is it took four hours for a final score of only 5-2.
Mo 8 saves from the all time record.
Looking like we’ll get both 3000 hits and 600 saves this season. That’s gotta be another 1st.
grandy getting HBP, dudes a cheater
salty swinging the bat and getting hit, gritty and gutsy
Yanks win, but that was a swing. No doubt about it.
To be honest, these umpires were awful tonight. The strike zone was highly inconsistent for both teams.
On to Game 2. The latest rumors of Marianos’s impending demise…appear to be greatly exaggerated. It appears that he is tinkering with how he pitches. That cutter was dancing again tonight. Stay tuned.
lackey says he didnt mean to hit cerveli just tried to knock him down
i can’t wait to read the sox media spin on this one…
my power went out right after ortiz hit the double…Everything end well?
