Sanchez makes winter ball debut

By

Gary Sanchez is playing winter ball this year, suiting up for the Leones de Escogido of the Dominican Winter League. His regular season ended in early-August because of a broken finger, so it’s good to see him make up for some lost at-bats this winter. Sanchez, who turns 19 in December, went 1-for-3 with a strikeout and a run scored in his debut yesterday (box score). He served as the DH and singled off short-term Yankee Raul Valdes.

Also, the Yankees have re-signed minor league free agents Reegie Corona and Ronny Marte. Gabriel Tatis was released.

AzFL Phoenix (4-3 win over surprise) Monday’s game
Corban Joseph, 2B: 1 for 4, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 K
Rob Segedin, LF: 1 for 3, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K
David Phelps, RHP: 5 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, 8-2 GB/FB – 43 of 70 pitches were strikes (61.4%) … that’s four runs, two walks, and ten strikeouts in his last three starts (14 IP)
Preston Claiborne, RHP: 1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 0 K, 3-0 GB/FB – nine of 16 pitches were strikes (56.3%)

Tuesday’s AzFL Phoenix game was canceled for some reason. Probably bad weather or something.

I don’t know if this belongs here, but I just read about Wilson Ramos being kidnapped. This is horrible! I believe the Yankees have a few playing winter ball in Venezuela. ESPN mentions about pro athletes and family members being kidnapped previously. Victor Zambrano’s mother was kidnapped and 9 days earlier his cousin was killed after being kidnapped. Enough writing on wall. With a U.S. enemy at the helm and now this happening shouldn’t MLB be pulling all participants from winter league ball? They simply don’t have long term control there. Obviously you have limited control over these things, but I would try to talk Jesus Montero into staying away from his homeland-at least for now.

I don’t see what Chavez has to do with kidnappings in Venezuela. Kidnappings happen in Brazil and other Latin American countries. If anything, a dictator with totalitarian ambitions such as Chavez should be trying to quash crime. Similar to how Sadaam was a huge ally in the fight against terrorism. If anything a psuedo-communist like Chavez would discourage crime and especially robbery.

The MLB shouldn’t be telling players anything about where to go in the off-season. You’re against dictatorships, yet want MLB to be run like one?

What control does MLB have over any sovereign nation? What are you even talking about?

Get a grip Ted. Perhaps you missed the part about the cousin of an athlete being kidnapped and killed. Or maybe the part of the about that same athlete seeing his mother kidnapped 9 days later. This wasn’t meant to be government affairs post…..just simply what’s for the well being of athletes. Go back and read. I commented on winter ball there. If its athletes are being kidnapped there I think it is well within MLB’s right to pull it’s teams partcipation in leagues there. Your snarky post leads me to think you just like to hear yourself.

Try getting an education on a topic….and at that stay on topic
