Update: MRI negative on Logan’s back
ByUpdate (2:11pm): Via Bryan Hoch and Carig, Brian Cashman said the MRI came back negative. It’s just back spasms and not a DL situation. Logan will be on the roster come Opening Day.
11:43am: Via Marc Carig, Logan is now headed for an MRI on his back. That can’t be good.
10:00am: Via Mark Feinsand, Boone Logan showed up to the ballpark with an achy back today and has been sent to the doctor. There’s no word on the extent the injury yet, but we’ll find out soon enough. Clay Rapada was a virtual lock for the roster anyway, but now there’s a chance he’ll end up the primary left-hander by default. Hopefully it’s nothing serious and the Yankees won’t have to dig up another reliever to start the season.

Even from the grave, Stairs still haunts.
There is no such thing as LOOGY depth?
Everything we seem to read, though, indicates that Boone is being counted on for more than LOOGY work. This would indicate someone like Kontos getting the call if this turns out to be anything.
Things always have a habit of working themselves out? Anyone still up for trading from the pitching depth?
That was supposed to be a period after “out,” of course.
Well put though Mr. Tilapia.
Suppose Wade turns out to not get it together enough to hold down his spot AND Logan is out for a while. That’s when you start creeping into the Manny Delcarmens of this world and why you bother to bring them in in the first place. That’s the sole reason Amaury Sanit and Pants Lendleton even walked this earth.
I’m Ron Burgandy?
Love it.
I don’t think a few injuries change the outlook on whether or not you trade a pitcher much. Either way you’re looking at the value presented in the trade.
Other than those crackpot posters that wanted to trade away all the AAA pitching because the were being treated unfairly, there was virtually no one calling for an immediate trade. It was mainly people speculating on what happens in a perfect scenario where everyone was healthy. All the I told you so’s and gloating as if some people had the very rare foresight to know that pitchers get hurt seems misplaced.
If the Yankees had traded Garcia, I still dont see how they would be much, if any worse off now. Phelps is fine candidate for the 5th starter and if Mitre could hold down the fort as the long man, just about any one can. None, of these injuries are even serious, they are DL stints at worst.
Seems Phelps made the cut over Mitchell too
Where did you see that? I’d have thought Mitchell for sure, after being given three innings last night, and Phelps being held back for when a starter was needed.
Carig
No big shit in the grand scheme of things, I guess. Just mildly surprised that’s the direction they went.
Not official yet — who knows what changes b/c of Boone, if anything. Also, Kontos is still lingering.
Other than Kontos, am I missing an actual AAA short relief prospect, or do we then move onto the Manny Delcarmen types and non-prospects?
Whelan
I thought of him more in the non-prospect category. The shine has been off that guy for a while now. Doesn’t mean he couldn’t be useful, though.
I do too — but for short-term depth, I think non-prospects can be an option. Sometimes a better option than subverting the development of a real prospect.
Oh, definitely.
Kontos is gone, traded to SF for Chris Stewart.
I would prefer Phelps stayed stretched out. Hm. With these injuries, we might be seeing these guys even sooner than we anticipated.
Anyone know the asking price for Thorton?
more than he is worth
Unless they eat his $, the asking price is too much. Cashman said he’s not taking on more salary at this point.
Taking a hatchet when a scalpel is needed. I’m sure the help can either come from within, the scrap heap, or the unsigned.
Use Dellin Betances.
No. That won’t stick in this thread either.
ST is over! Lets get the regular season started!!!!!!!!
Bill Hall bailed – if anyone cares.
Drat.

are the yankees using more MRIs, if so that is good. the medical cost is rather slim compared to value in preventing problems yet unseen
