The Chief has allowed nine runs in 10.1 IP across two starts so far, including five runs in 5.2 IP against a Twins team that has scored the third fewest runs in the league. Today he gets the Red Sox, a powerful offense despite the absence of Jacoby Ellsbury and Carl Crawford. Ivan Nova set the tone yesterday, now it’s time for Sweaty Freddy to follow suit and give the Yankees a quality performance. Here’s the starting nine…

Is there a way to see the Yankees’ record in nationally televised games over the last couple years? It feels we always lose FOX/ESPN games, but I have no idea if that’s actually the case.

“To boldly go” is a split infinitive. I was always told that you can never place an adverb in there. That it should always be “to go boldly.”

The rule about split infinitives came to English rather late, and it was created by professional grammarians rather than codified because it was used by a lot of people It’s basically in imitation of Latin, in which infinitives are one words. But it’s not natural to English.

It depends on what you recognize as the appropriate authority–and who you’re trying to impress. But there is certainly a case for splitting infinitives and there are some professionals who accept them.

If you are writing an academic paper or a formal business proposal or something similar, you shouldn’t use them, even if they sound more natural. Everywhere else, only a-holes would care.
You know the Churchill view of the split infinitive: “That is a foolishness up with which I will not put.”

Dude, its three low-leverage appearances competing against a guy who did very well last year. His chance will come, but you can’t just yank starters out of the rotation for a couple of bad starts at the beginning of the season.

Not sure what you mean by website translating site. I actually pay a very modest amount for access to a couple private proxy servers scattered around the world (for reasons entirely unrelated to mlb.tv). Speed is pretty good – I’m streaming now at the same quality I would on a direct connection.

Lack of experience, average fastball, average breaking ball. All of the reasons his ceiling coming into this season were a 4-5 guy in the major leagues. 8IP out of the bullpen in garbage time do not convince me he’s going to be a great starting pitcher.

Normally I’m on board with newbies not being as good as an average, or even somewhat below average, MLB pitcher. That said, Garcia hasn’t BEEN somewhat below average, he’s been significantly worse.
You do not need to be convinced he will be a great starting pitcher in order to assume that he’ll do better than Freddy has. That was in no way what the argument was.
Ok, poor word choice, he would do better, because Freddy has been fucking terrible. But to expect him to be anything better than slightly below average is just unfair.
I don’t really have high expectations of Phelps at all. I would still be fine with him replacing Freddy however.

I thought Betencourt was considered an above average defensive shortstop, then again I stopped caring about him since he left the Mariners or got traded or whatever.
