Gardner still feeling pain in elbow, will be shut down for a few days

By

Via Marc Carig, outfielder Brett Gardner still feels some pain in his right elbow and will be shut down for a few days. He had been swinging a bat in the cage the three or four days and is eligible to come off the DL tomorrow, though that obviously won’t happen. Despite Gardner’s setback, the Yankees are not planning to call up another outfielder according to Joe Girardi. That is just insane.

You have got to be kidding me

  2. mustang says:

Wow! The outfield play is going to a lot of funny to watch.

    what. the. fudge.

    Wish we still had Maxwell

Now we will see if Secretary of State Clinton really is a Yankee fan. If she is she will swap Nunez for that blind guy in China and force the Yankees to bring up an outfielder in the name of human rights (both for the Chinese and Yankee fans).

Come on Hillary, step up and get this done.

I wonder how Girardi’s going to defend this to the media, since it makes absolutely no sense.

Also – wow, Gardner really makes a difference on the team. I don’t think I’ve ever fully appreciated him.

“Well with Hughsey and Phelpsy making starts we think it is important to have Freddy and Mitchell in the pen.

Nunez is trying real hard and making adjustements and Ibanez is a vet and we feel good about them in the outfield while we wait for Swish.

Plus it allows me to get both Stewart and Martins bat in the lineup against lefty starters”

    • Cross777 says:

Gardner really makes a difference – Not really, he is being replaced by over-the-hill DH/bench guys and a bad glove infielder.

Here is where you see the Yankees aren’t run by “the Boss” who the last time this happened he went and traded for an outfielder!!!

    • Steve (different one) says:

      Girardi is the GM now?

  7. LK says:

I guess this means they’re extremely optimistic about Swisher. Still can’t really imagine how having another outfielder isn’t more productive than 13 pitchers though.

  8. Robinson Tilapia says:

Time to install a net behind the infielders and play Arena Baseball.

  9. Manny's BanWagon says:

Why is everyone making a big deal about calling up another outfielder. It’s not like any of the outfielders down in AAA are worth a crap.

    • LK says:

I don’t think anyone is advocating calling someone up and having them play every day. However, at this point I think the team could benefit more from a defensive replacement for Ibanez/Nunez than a second longman.

      • Robinson Tilapia says:

I actually might play DeWayne Wise every day instead of the outfield circus currently out there.

  10. Stratman9652 says:

If not bring up Wise and then have to DFA him to send him back, why not Colin Curtis? Nothing too exciting about him, sure, but I have to imagine he would be better in the corners than Ibanez and Nunez for a while and I think he has options so he can be sent back down.

    • Steve (different one) says:

Curtis was in the majors but no longer on the 40 man, right? That means he was DFA’ed at some point and they can’t send him back down. There really is a shortage of guys they could call up for a few days. Is cole garner healthy? I would prob add him to he 40 man and call him up, assuming he still has options.

After that, you are really looking at Melky Mesa.

  11. Clyde Barrow says:

So who’s playing left field tonight, Chad Curtis? We’ve got no options. At least there’s a groundball pitcher on the mound so maybe Nunez would be better suited to play LF tonight.

  12. Brian S. says:

    Tommy John?

  13. Bartolo's Colon says:

we should have known that the ibanez signing would be horrible. just the fact that they said ibanez “can play the outfield if needed” should have been a clue. i can “play the outfield if needed” too, it doesn’t mean it should happen. please get rid of him

    • YanksFanInBeantown says:

I’m not sure whether this comment is funnier if you’re talking about yourself, or if you’re talking about Bartolo’s Colon.

  14. DJ4K&Monterowasdinero says:

This outfield should be fun to watch in KC.

  15. DM says:

Hmmm… I’m not sure why you would’ve signed Wise if not to use him in a scenario like this.
