Game 88: For The Sweep

I’m a simple guy, I just want the Yankees to keep winning series as the season progresses. Taking two of three in each series is a 108-win pace, so it seems like a good plan. The Yanks have already won this series, but a sweep of those annoying Angels would make for just a swell Sunday. Words can’t describe how much I would enjoy that third win today. Here’s the lineup…

My senior year of undergrad one of my house-mates/friends got two pet birds to keep in his room, and I swear he sang that song every day for about 6 months.
I would’ve gotten a cat and opened the cage one day after about three weeks, then just let nature take it’s course.

I like birds in the wild (though some people are bird phobic which is pretty funny to me), but I’ve never gotten people who keep birds as pets.

Question: If I watch on TBS, do I have to listen to TBS broadcasters, or do they just carry the YES feed? Trying to decide between TBS and MLB.TV.

I get antsy between batters
I really don’t understand what makes Jered so good…he doesn’t have an over powering fastball, his peripherals aren’t really anything to write home about, besides his walk rate. Yet there he is with a sub 2 ERA.

Only the Tampa loss sticks out as bad.

*Dick Stockton said this was the first time Nova had ever allowed two first inning home runs in his career. Sadly, when considering the playoffs, you realize that’s not true. Just a painful reminder.

I have an off-topic question. Is 2014 the only year we have to get under 189 AAV? And then we can go back to 200-210 in 2015?
I think we just have to get under for 1 year, then it resets everything. If/when they go back over, the penalties start again but it starts at a lower penalty and gradually climes each year their over. So if they get under for one year, they save a lot of money for a next couple of years, until the penalties reach the levels they are currently paying.

I hate John and Suzyn they’re going on and on about good pitching vs good hitting and small ball parks I had no idea if there was anyone out or anybody on base until Gameday finally caught up.
I agree, I deliver pizza’s way out here in Albuquerque and rely on John and Suzyn to keep me up to date on the game as i’m working. I will listen the entire way to a delivery and never once get a score. Then, by some cruel twist of fate, I had to listen to Suzyn’s bafflement of how you can order a pizza online and have it delivered…while delivering pizza’s placed by people online and just wanting a score. I’ve never screamed at my radio so loudly before.
I feel ya man, I did the pizza delivery gig for a couple summers while I was in undergrad, and was forced to rely on good ol’ 880. I feel your pain.

If Andruw was positioned where Raul was, he does NOT get that ball. Andruw is a historically awesome outfielder. But he doesn’t sprint to that ball, nor get there.
Raul is an awful fielder but he hustles. Stop looking at Fielding metrics and judge on reality. Andruw would not have gotten there.
One, with the eye test with Andruw he would catch that easily

When you have good hitters up behind you and all you need to do is get on base to continue the game, you should be completely content with a walk. Swining at the first pitch 1) Increases the chances that first pitch is an out 2) Leaves out the fact that umps sometimes makes calls and 3) Just because a pitch is in the strike zone doesn’t make it a good one to hit.
By your argument, hitters should never go up to a bat planning to take the first pitch.

What I was thinking was that he would have caught up to the pitch but knocked it into the dirt. That generally means you caught it but got above it. Or hooked it like Granderson-a near miss.

He saw maybe 1 strike the whole AB but rather than waiting him out (like Jeter and Granderson did) he kept swinging for the 3 run HR on pitches low and/or low and outside.

Veteran Yankees lacked fundamentals today and Girardi lacked commitment by throwing in the towel and putting in Qualls and Mitchell.
