Who else is as sick and tired of the Dwight Howard situation as me? Apparently he’s now going to test the free agent market after next season regardless of whether he’s traded or not and won’t be signing any extensions. Makes business sense. But why the fuck did he opt into the final year of his current contract? He was never going to stay in Orlando and he could’ve gotten this out of the way this offseason. Was he under pressure by the Magic front office to opt in or is he just a total blockhead?

    • Robinson Tilapia

Probably something for the off-topic thread.

I’m just sad he’s probably not coming to Brooklyn. My job does a lot of business with the Nets, and I probably would have gotten to meet him rather quickly.

      • Robinson Tilapia

        Open thread, sorry.

        • forensic

Game threads are open threads. You’re not the boss of him! :-)

          • Robinson Tilapia

If you start breaking into a They Might Be Giants TV theme song, this will not be off to a good start.

            • FIPster Doofus

Funny you mention it, as I’ve been binging on Malcolm in the Middle episodes lately.

            • Kempire Strikes Back

That’s a TV show now? I remember when it was only an iTunes podcast a few years ago.

    • FIPster Doofus

      He’s a drama queen loser.

  • Robinson Tilapia

Which bullshit-throwing young pitcher are we facing tonight?

    • FIPster Doofus

      Karl Malone

      • Robinson Tilapia

Good. He must be pushing 50 and is nothing without John Stockton.

      • Kempire Strikes Back

        This made me lol.

  • Greg

Damn, Jordany Valdespin. 4 pinch hit home runs.

    • forensic

Of course, why else would they start the worse-hitting-than-Russell-Martin Jason Bay? You have to keep Valdespin available just in case you’re able to stay close and need one AB late, earlier AB’s be damned!

  • jjyank

Keep the streak alive! Go Yanks!

  • FIPster Doofus

Milone’s home ERA is 1.03 in 52 innings. His xFIP is 4.12. Time for a correction.

  • DERP

Let’s fucking kick their fucking asses.

    • Robinson Tilapia

      That’s the fucking spirit!

  • Robinson Tilapia

So do this Milone kid throw a 90 MPH fastball, but a 30 MPH changeup or something? Fucking A’s and their pitchers that disintegrate once they leave Oakland.

  • forensic

    Jeter, patient as ever…

  • eephus_pitch

Dammit. This guy throws a change-up. Things might not go too well for Teixeira.

  • Pasta Stumbling Sojo

At the game. The ballpark is ugly but there’s usually a good crowd here in the bleachers. And Yankee fans are representing well.

  • eephus_pitch

Please spare us the Maxwell Smart impression.

    • Bartolo’s Colon

Im on a bus to dc tonight, not happy that I’m forced to listen to sterling. Seems like this dude may give us trouble tonight

      • jjyank

At least you’re on a bus to a cool city!

        • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

No city is cooler than the mean streets of NYC.

          • jjyank

I grew up in a NYC suburb. Was never a fan of The City. Maybe it’s just my small town roots, I don’t like skyscrapers.

          • Robinson Tilapia

            Damn straight.

            • Bartolo’s Colon

I live in NYC, dc is ok, but NYC is the best

              • jjyank

                Disagree.

  • Dino Velvet

kind of odd watching them play in daylight, while it’s 10:21 at home.

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

hello all, how is everybody this evening?

    • Kempire Strikes Back

Weary. Staying up this late to watch baseball sucks, but I couldn’t watch the game yesterday and I want to get a good look at Yoenis Cespedes.

      • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

I live for west coast trips lol. I’m an insomniac and I work till 9 so the only time I get to watch full games is these west coast games.

        • Kempire Strikes Back

Heh, lucky you I guess. Why can’t they just start their baseball games at 4:00 p.m. in Oakland? It’s not like anyone there cares about baseball anyway. They should be more concerned about the lack of law enforcement in that city.

    • jjyank

      Excellent. Yourself?

      • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Adjusting to life after The Dark Knight Rises. I will never be as excited for a movie as I was for this. And it delivered on every single level I expected.

        • jjyank

I’m looking forward to seeing it myself. Loved the first two.

          • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Dude…just omg…so so good. I’m so sad that there will never be another superhero movie this great.

        • Kempire Strikes Back

God do I want to watch that. I’ll probably get to see it in theaters sometime this week or next.

          • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Go asap. Btw, love your handle. Are you new or somebody with a new handle?

            • Kempire Strikes Back

I used to post as “I’m Sexy and I Cano It” and thought I’d go with “Kempire Strikes Back” for now. (Both are names of a buddy of mines fantasy baseball teams which I thought were pretty hilarious).

        • Pat D

My opinion is that it wasn’t as good as The Dark Knight, but that it was a satisfying conclusion. My dad referred to TDK as The Empire Strikes Back and TDKR as Return of the Jedi, in that regard.

I had to leave the theater in the first half of the movie because my stomach betrayed me. I’m planning to go see it again in a week or so.

Obviously I’m sorry for those people in Colorado. Just a complete and total tragedy.

          • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Idk, Cause in my mind Empire was worlds better than Jedi, and I might give TDK a small edge over Rises. It just came out yesterday, so I don’t want to spoil anything but I can say that I thought there were no weaknesses and it was about as perfect as it could have been minus one thing.

            • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

And as to the tragedy in Colorado I feel awful for everybody involved. Even Nolan to an extent, don’t get me wrong I feel MUCH worse for the people who were directly involved and people who lost loved ones, but I feel like this movie is going to be stained with their blood because of one crazy person who deserves much worse than whatever he gets.

            • Pat D

Can you say what the one thing is that bothered you or is it a spoiler?

              • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

It didn’t even bother me that much it was just that it was so obvious that it was going to happen to anybody who knows anything about Nolan or just watched the first two movies. Also it was incredibly lacking in Bat-nipples on the suit and cheesy one liners about freezing people.

                • Pat D

I guess you’re referring to the ending.

Take that, Joel Schumacher. Though to be fair, the more I’ve heard after the fact, seems like the studio didn’t let him do what he wanted to do.

They almost messed this up too. I read a story that when The Dark Knight first debuted, WB went to Nolan like, “The next movie is going to feature The Riddler, and we want DiCaprio.” Which wouldn’t have been bad, per se, but that they thought they had the control. Then TDK grosses went boom and Nolan had the power. Especially then after Inception hit it big.

                  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Nolan was also slightly on board with the DiCaprio Riddler idea, but he didn’t do it 9and din’t want to) because Riddler and Joker are similar villians.
Also, I agree with your first point because Nolan explicitly said he wasn’t going to do anything after the first film. I love Nolan as a director, but if I had to give it one minus point from a direction POV, the pacing was a little slow in my opinion but it worked.

            • Robinson Tilapia

Will always have a soft spot for “Jedi.” The fucking Ewoks.

              • jjyank

And Luke has a hard on for his sister. Classic.

                /Kentucky Wars’d

                • Pat D

                  That was in Empire!

                  • jjyank

Was it? I thought Luke didn’t find out who his sister was until they were on Endor? It’s been awhile since I saw those movies though.

                    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

No, Leia doesn’t find out till Endor when Luke tells her. I’m pretty sure he finds out at the end of Empire.

                    • Pat D

Luke finds out in Jedi right after Yoda’s death. He guesses it and Obi-Wan’s ghost confirms.

In Empire, Leia just planted a kiss on Luke when they were on Hoth. It was just to get at Han who was being a douche.

                    • jjyank

Still, at some point bro and sis have a hard on for each other! :P

And the fuzzy little Ewoks can be extras in the film.

        • Dino Velvet

people are dying to see this movie

          • Pat D

Wow. I want to say “fuck you,” but I don’t want to get banned.

Oops, guess I just said it.

            • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

yeah, I wasn’t sure if he was going there, but if he is that’s just fucked up.

    • Robinson Tilapia

Vodka. Muddled strawberries. Simple syrup. And you?

      • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

        Glenlivet 12 year, rocks.

        • Robinson Tilapia

Just for you, next one’s a scotch.

    • forensic

Adult beverage, The Show, Yankees game, and cheery wife and baby. All early enough to still get up well for work in the morning. How much better could you be doing (other than not getting up for work, but you gotta give some to take some)?

  • Pasta Stumbling Sojo

At the game. The ballpark is ugly but there’s usually a good crowd here in the bleachers. And Yankee fans are representing well tonight.

  • Tom

A bit off topic… but you have to love the ESPN BBTN guys saying 9-2 lead how is Strasburg in the game?!?!? He’s gotz inningz limitz – be smart save an inning here or there.

    It’s now 9-8 in the 8th inning.

    • Greg

Well that’s the Nats bullpen’s fault. Not Davey Johnson’s

      • Tom

        A) No one was suggesting it was Johnson’s fault
        B) You realize Strasburg was KEPT in the game and actually gave up some of those runs?

        • Greg

Ah. I was not informed of that. My bad.

          • Tom

Than why comment and just basically guess at what you think happened?

            • jjyank

              *Then

              Sorry.

              /grammar police’d

              • Tom

                Doh!
(for some reason I always mess up then/than there/their)

                • jjyank

It’s cool, I don’t mean to be a dick. I just hate bad grammar. I have an ex-girlfriend who had written on the top of her mirror “Your beautiful”.

Always bothered me, probably more than it should have haha.

                  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

I would’ve ripped it down and replaced it with the proper You’re. Like that would have driven me crazy if it wasn’t fixed.

                    • jjyank

Part of the reason we broke up. I couldn’t have sex in her room, her stupidity was always staring at me from the mirror :P

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Wow, Cespedis looks like a linebacker and runs like a wide out.

    • Robinson Tilapia

And can jump over a box like a friggin gazelle.

    • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

      He’s 5’8. Maybe a speedy fullback.

  • Greg

I told you guys, we weren’t going to roll over them like last time.

    • jjyank

      Quiet, Greg.

      • Robinson Tilapia

See…..I’m the only guy, other than Greg, who looked at those pitching matchups and said “these little fuckers could give us fits all weekend.”

I’m counting on lots of young pitcher mistakes but, yeah, I am a bit concerned if these guys are as on as Mr. 60 MPH curve was last night.

Let’s go for a drive, Greg. I’ll buy ice cream.

        • Greg

Its not just the pitching matchups. Their offense is greatly improved from when we saw them last.

Thanks but don’t worry about it.

          • Robinson Tilapia

You’re turning down ice cream? My god.

            • Greg

I know. I go with air popped popcorn at night.

Also, unintentionally, you made me miss my mother for a bit with your statement. Dont worry about it though.

        • jjyank

That’s perfect. Greg drives, Riddle rides the bus, and Erica changes her adult dieper. That’s the trifecta for a Yankee win.

          • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

but I got off my bus a half hour ago and it doesn’t run again until the morrow.

            • jjyank

Steal a school bus. I don’t give a shit. The Yankees must win!

  • Will The Thrill

    Nova not pitching with confidence.

  • your mom

Nova’s all over the damn place. Not good.

  • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

God, Comcast Sports Net -Bay Area coverage is so pathetic. They cut away after every strike thrown by an A’s pitcher or every out by a Yankee or every good miniscule game element for the A’s to:

this one particular section of fans in the mezzanine level where the fans are packed in so it looks like the seats are full. They do closeups and pan arounds these fans right in their faces. It’s so obvious also because the fans have this blank look on their faces and then on cue from the cameraman they start cheering and mugging for the camera.

It’s akin to a studio audience “applause” prompt.

    • Will The Thrill

Well. Just be happy that we were born Yankee fans and not Oakland Athletics or Houston Astros fans.

      • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

I know. They do the same thing at the Trop. But in Oakland it’s almost as if they were plucked off the street to star as an audience member for tonight’s telecast.

  • matt

Jesus Ivan, pitch yourself into and out of trouble, dodge the bullet, now just settle down baby.

  • jjyank

Whew. A lot of pitches for Nova though. Hopefully he settles down.

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Ivan’s gotta continue taking advantage of this gigantic strike zone he has while he still has it.

  • Will The Thrill

Tommy Milone is the exactly the kind of pitcher that gives the Yankees trouble, a crafty lefty.

    • Greg

The 2010 Brett Cecil model. Medium tossing lefty with a good changeup

      • Will The Thrill

Boy am I glad that the Blue Jays ruined him. 2010 Brett Cecil was annoyingly good at getting the Yankees to ground into at least three double plays a game.

  • Kempire Strikes Back

Did I mention how much I like Inge? I like him a lot. I think the Yankees should be interested in Inge.

    /Fatcesa’d

  • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

    Nice comeback inning.

  • your mom

    Sogard is one intimidating-looking MoFo.

  • Greg

Great inning by Nova. Gets him almost even with Milone through two innings.

  • Rich in NJ

If Martin played 81 games in this park, he might hit under .100.

    • Will The Thrill

You’re too generous. I doubt he could crack .100

  • jjyank

If Nix was Chris Stewart, that would have been a triple.

    • Get Phelps Up

      Inside the parker.

  • Will The Thrill

Tommy Milone looks a lot like Fred Armisen. Tell me you guys see it!

    • your mom

      He needs glasses.

        “Mi scusi”

  • Greg

And the Nationals have blown a 9-0 lead. 10-9 Braves

    • Kempire Strikes Back

almost even? The score is 0-0.

    • Greg

I meant in terms of pitch count.

      • cc

you must be listening to Michael Kay ;-).

  • jjyank

Andrew McCutchen his hitting .459 against lefties??!! Good Mo.

  • Robinson Tilapia

This stadium needs to be torched.

Most A’s fans agree with you.

Hooray…let’s see if Oakland can RISPFAIL like the Yankees of May.

    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

      guess not.

  • your mom

    I hate Coco Crisp.

    • Will The Thrill

I hate him too. Always seems to get those HUGE hits against the Yankees. Like that go ahead homerun last year against Soriano. But I wouldn’t mind the Yankees trading for him in the wake of Gardner’s surgery.

      • Kempire Strikes Back

He’s a former Red Sock so he can pretty much go fuck himself.

        • Robinson Tilapia

          Precisely.

  • Will The Thrill

I really hope the Yanks keep expanding on their division lead and don’t let anyone make up too much ground. We’re going to see a lot of the Red Sox, Rays, Orioles and Blue Jays in the remaining part of the season. It would be nice to have a cushion to fall on just in case we drop too many games against division opponents.

    • Get Phelps Up

I think 9 games is a very good cushion. If they lose today it will be 8 games which is still a very good cushion.

      • Greg

Statistically it is. But people will begin to whisper. And by people I think you know who I mean.

        • Get Phelps Up

          The media? Fuck them.

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

I think Cano makes that play, but you know Nix is a baseball player

    • eephus_pitch

He does something EVERY GAME to help them win.

  • Will The Thrill

Nova has been either AJ Burnett or Mike Mussina this year. Frustratingly inconsistent.

    • http://twitter/TheRealJeromeS Jerome S.

So really, he’s just been AJ Burnett.

    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

“frustratingly inconsistent” sounds like a pitcher in his sophomore year in the AL East lol.

      • Robinson Tilapia

        F. Inconsistent is actually a minor league RHP for the Red Sox, and he’s going to be the best pitcher EVER.

    • mt

Hard to beleive he leads AL (by wide margin) in extra base hits allowed.

      • Will The Thrill

His fastball isn’t exactly overpowering. Plus his change up is pretty weak. That probably explains all the XBH allowed.

  • Kempire Strikes Back

      • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

They do understand that every team now employees money ball techniques these days whether they are big or small market right?
What am I saying it’s John Sterling and Suzyn Walman they understand Operas and slightly understand the concept of these new talkies in theatres.

        • jjyank

But what about ordering pizza on teh interwebs???!

    • Get Phelps Up

OBP? Sabermetrics? Whatever happened to wins and RBIs, dammit!!

  • Will The Thrill

I know Cespedes hasn’t been a superstar as advertised but he’s been solid. Still would’ve loved for the Yanks to sign him or Soler. Our outfield options beyond 2013 are bleak if we choose to let Swisher and Grandy go.

    • your mom

$36 million was a lot for an unknown commodity.

    • jjyank

I would have loved Soler, but on a 9 year contract? Jeez.

    • Robinson Tilapia

      Ship = sailed.

  • jjyank

Dammit Nova. It worked, and I know it’s just a reflex, but I hate it when they do that.

Who was the guy a couple months ago I argued with about that? I believe the crux of his defense was “I see cars passing in the street and I don’t stick my hand out in front of them.” Probably R$IP/Dumbestguyintheworld Playing with balls, who whatever his handle is these days.

In the replay it looked like Robbie Thompson was waving him to come, or am I imagining things? My first impulse was to blame Tex, but I wonder if Robbie deserves blame.

  • Kramerica Industries

That was such an obvious mistake.

  • Will The Thrill

Wow. Yankees need to go to baserunning school.

  • Kempire Strikes Back

What the hell was Tex thinking? He would have been out even if he didn’t hesitate.

    • Robinson Tilapia

He would have been out had he driven to third.

  • mt

Why do slow Yankee runners keep getting thrown out on bases?

    • Greg

      Because they’re idiots.

  • Get Phelps Up

    Stupid.

  • jjyank

    Damn it Tex.

  • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

    Why?

  • your mom

Fudge, not one of THESE games again.

    • mt

I know what you mean – yesterday’s loss was their first loss in a while where you couldn’t point to horrible base running or defense or bad starting/relief pitching – was a “normal” loss. This one might be one of the bad ones again.

  • Tom

Just following online – was that Tex or 3rd base coach Jack Kervorkian?

  • Nathan

I wouldn’t even suggest Jeter, the “quickest” Yankee right now given Gardner being out, to try that against Reddick’s arm. Bad decision, Tex.

  • your mom

Reddick is a former Red Sox player, can he go fuck himself too?

    • Robinson Tilapia

      All night.

    • Kempire Strikes Back

I give him the green light.

  • Will The Thrill

One day the Yankees will have a scouting reports on outfielder’s arms and use that information to make base running decisions.

  • mt

Nova adds to his extra base hit lead.

    • your mom

      Bad luck or bad pitches?

  • Kramerica Industries

Nova has been getting fricken’ hammered out there.

  • Kempire Strikes Back

Give up another XBH why don’t ya

  • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

Batting practice is running late today.

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Brandon Inge? really? Fucking A man, step up.

  • Nathan

It’s early, yes…but this is starting to feel like one of those series where the Yankees just can’t do anything.

It’s part of the game but when the A’s (!) are beating you, that makes it painful.

    • Nathan

      See?

  • Athenian

A’s are hot an Dyaks left their bats an ditching at home. Tale of two teams, with Oakland

  • Robinson Tilapia

This game’s annoying. It feels like it’s the Hunger Games out there.

  • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

    WTF?!?##?

  • Get Phelps Up

    WTF Nova??

  • Pat D

    Wow, Nova.

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

    Cue yakkady sax.

  • DERP

Nice of April Nova to show up again.

  • Mr. Pink

Sometimes I think the notion of Ivan Nova being a good pitcher has been fueled by his propensity to receive great run support and pitch out of jams. I don’t know what to make of him. Sometimes I think he’s one of the best pitchers in the rotation and sometimes I think he needs serious work.

  • eephus_pitch

    Dear Suzyn Waldman, you idiot:

ALL PITCHERS ARE TRYING TO HIT SPOTS. ALL OF THEM.

    Sorry, “spawts.”

    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Let me guess…something along the lines of “He’s trying to hard to hit spots instead of just throwing the ball.”? am I right?

      • eephus_pitch

        Even better.
He’s pitching. Possibly because he’s a baseball player who knows how to play baseball. NOT MONEYBALL.

        • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

She makes me want to labotomize myself in hopes of enjoying the broadcast more.

  • Mike N

    What’s happening, homesies?

    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Nova hasn’t been too sharp, Yank’s have yet to crack this kid, The Dark Knight Rises was incredible, Suzyn and John are annoying, and my work with mango’s, chicken, habenaro peppers, and grilling is working out excellently. How about you?

      • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Oh and jjyank has a thing for girls who can’t read good, and want to learn to do other stuff good too.

        • Mike N

Mangos, chicken, habaneros sounds awesome! I am just trying to stay awake. I hate these west coast games.

        • jjyank

Hey man, they can do other stuff good :P

          • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

I’m sure she had excellent oral skills.

I’m talking about public speaking you dirty minded people. Gawd.

            • jjyank

Yes, she did. And I am not talking about public speaking.

It’s Friday night, I’ve been drinking. I can be frank. Even the dumb ones have their pros.

              • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Haha, this is slightly misogynistic. But absolutely true.

      • Robinson Tilapia

Very nice. I am enjoying a scotch in your name.

        • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

I thank you, sir. As you know I enjoy a good scotch more than just about anything.

  • DERP

Does anyone think we should score some runs here?

    • your mom

We should but if we keep running into outs and striking out I’d have to say no.

  • Kempire Strikes Back

I’m impressed he kept them to only one run in that inning.

  • http://twitter/TheRealJeromeS Jerome S.

Admittedly, 2 runs over 4 innings isn’t oh-my-god-terrible, and it would seem better if the offense was more alive.

    • Kempire Strikes Back

Tommy Milone is perpetuating the “Yankees can’t beat lefty, soft-tossing rookies that they’ve never seen before” narrative. Ditto whoever the fuck was pitching for the A’s yesterday.

    • Robinson Tilapia

      Yes.

  • pistol pete

Great decision by the 3rd base coach last inning. You’ve got the hottest hitter on the planet coming up with nowhere to put him and you take a chance with Tex who can’t run going to third and being thrown out by ten feet. Absurd.

    • Tom Q

It was Thompson, yes? I was originally screaming at Tex, but on the replay it looked as if Robbie was rotating his arm to say “Keep coming”. No one else here seems to have noticed it.

  • Mr. Pink

I want to stay up for this game but I feel like it won’t be worth it.

    • your mom

      I feel the same way.

  • Mr. Pink

Quintin Berry needs to calm down. He hasn’t earned the right to celebrate that much and be that cocky.

  • your mom

Dude’s thrown 14 of 16 first pitch strikes. No wonder we’re struggling offensively. Kinda hard when you’re behind the count all the damn time.

  • DERP

This fuck doesn’t strike anyone out before today.

  • James A

This is turning into a Cliff Lee 2010 ALCS impression. It’s amazing watching the differences between nova and milone

  • Mike N

    It’s only a two-run game. That’s nothing.

  • Athenian

14’s over last two games. Not good

  • your mom

Wow, just wow, K’d the side. How frustrating is the offense tonight?

  • forensic

Anyone know when the Yankees flight lands in Oakland? I’m wondering if I can drive from Vegas and still see them at the airport.

  • Kempire Strikes Back

8 strikeouts for Milone through 5. Not to mention he’s on a complete game pace. At least it’s still a close game. Nova’s bent but he hasn’t broken so far.

  • Tom

So a guy who’s striking out just under 6/9IP has 8K’s in 5 innings and has struck out nearly 50% of the batters he’s faced (8 of 17)

  • Kramerica Industries

Three straight innings where Nova has surrendered an extra base hit to start the inning.

  • Nathan

Seems like every A’s inning starts with a hit. Geez.

    • your mom

Not just a hit, an xtra base hit.

  • DERP

    Fuck Nova.

    • Kempire Strikes Back

Geez, I know he didn’t go to the University of Maryland but…..

    • Robinson Tilapia

Tall Dominicans are your type, eh?

In all seriousness, two runs in five innings. Won’t win any style points tonight, but he’s not the problem.

  • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

Nova trying to clinch the “Most XBHs given up in the season” crown in July.

  • eephus_pitch

    Jayson Nix:

    • eephus_pitch

      BASEBALL PLAYER.

  • Athenian

AB’s have 3 less doubles than the number K’s than the Yanks. And yet only down 2-0.

    • Robinson Tilapia

Whatever you’re typing on tonight, it ain’t working so well for ya.

      • Athenian

Auto correct of an iPad. Meant to say the A’s.

        • Robinson Tilapia

They’re so much better to use for this than a damn phone, though. Love how this site looks on my IPad.

  • Mike N

It’s only the end of the fifth, plenty of time for Yanks bats to come alive. And Nova is holding tough.

  • your mom

Honestly, we wouldn’t be bitching about Nova if our offense had shown up tonight. That being said, I’m outta here. Hopefully we pull off the win.

  • FIn

Seems like the Yankees are a bit flat after getting the double digit lead in the east and long road trip out west. Cant be suprised.

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

If your OBP is >.300 you shouldn’t be getting out of the way of inside pitches. just let them clip you and try to take first base.

    • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

Even more so if your OBP is <.300

      ;)

      • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

        damnit wrong alligator.

  • Get Phelps Up

As shaky as Nova has looked, you gotta give him credit for not completely imploding and keeping us in the game.

    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

If we were winning he’d be getting credit for pitching just well enough to win, but right now he’s pitching just well enough to lose.

      • Robinson Tilapia

        Yup.

      • Mike N

He’s only allowed two runs in five innings. That’s a pretty damn good ERA in the AL.

        • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

He’s had a lot of hard hit balls though…he hasn’t been very good tonight.

  • Mike N

It is very physiologically difficult to travel three time zones, so that is clearly a factor.

  • Tom

Granderson needs to sit on a curve here.

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Wrong part of the bat there Grandy.

  • Nathan

    Granderson has cooled off.

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

      One 0-for-4 … he’s cooled off!

      • Robinson Tilapia

        Axisa in the house!

      • eephus_pitch

Mike, you’re the one who pointed out Curtis’s power outage two days ago, and implored him to heat up again.

  • Robinson Tilapia

    Oof. Curtis almost had that.

  • forensic

We’ve (or at least I’ve) been so spoiled by their play over a month or two that even these last two games where they haven’t been down by more than two have felt like they’ve been down by 7 or 8. It’s amazing how the perspective changes sometimes.

    • Nathan

Granted the A’s have been hot but they’re still the A’s. Aside from Reddick and Cespedes, they aren’t scary.

Replace the A’s with virtually any other team and I’m not too upset about yesterday and the first 5 innings.

  • Mike N

    OPPORTUNITY!

  • FIn

I think arod has like 3 rbi’s this month, only so much one man can do in a month.

  • Kempire Strikes Back

Is it too much to ask for an A-Bomb here?

  • Widget

I hate having A-Rod bat in front of Cano. Travesty.

  • Robinson Tilapia

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

    A-Rod won’t see another fastball.

  • Nathan

    Garbage.

  • Mike N

None of those two-strike pitches were strikes.

  • Kempire Strikes Back

Stuart a to enter in 3…2…1…..

    • Robinson Tilapia

We might get stealth stuart at the end of the thread. Always my favorite.

      • stuart b

        …He’ll be here, I’m sure…

      • Kempire Strikes Back

He’ll show up 30 minutes after the game is over, expecting everyone to have closed their browser and gone to sleep.

Which is exactly what we want him to think.

  • ArchStanton

Time to drop him in the order already. Enough is enough.

    • Widget

it really is time. He’s not A-ROD anymore. As much as Joe wants it to happen it’s not going to happen. Cano hitting 5th is pathetic.

      • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

        Cano sucks against lefties now.

    • forensic

Ha, they’ve gotten to this point with Girardi doing it this way, no change in hell that he’s suddenly going to change things.

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Good news, the kid is at 90 pitches, any idea on how far he’s able to go before he gets pulled?

  • Tom

Wow, they really seem to be chasing that changeup; not a very disciplined approach tonight

  • Widget

    5 more years!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • jjyank

      Better than Pujols.

      • Tom

Is it though? Pujols is not in a serious decline stage.

Unless you think Pujols is going to be in serious decline for the last 6 years of his contract, is it really worse? Sure the contract is longer but Pujols has I think a better than decent shoy at being productive for the next 5-6 years (meaning his celince stage will potentially be shorter)

        • Tom

          *shot*

          • Tom

            and *decline*

And it’s time for me to stop drinking apparently! ;-)

            • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

If you’re still awake and coherent enough to correct your mistakes, you’re good.

        • jjyank

What? Pujols is already declining, and it’s year #1 of that contract. He’s still very good, but he is not the easy #1 fantasy draft pick he was a couple years ago. A-Rod was still a beast for the first couple of years of his contract and Pujols has shown signs of decline in his first. His contract will be worse by my own (admittedly amateur) opinion.

      • FIn

NOt sure about that. Puljos knows how to use roids better than Alex, hes never been caught. He can keep on using, Alex cant.

    • Robinson Tilapia

Oh please. You spent half of yesterday flat-out insulting Greg for being negative. We’re all keenly aware of Alex’s contract.

      • Widget

Greg deserves every bit of crap given to him. I’m actually sad he isn’t posting. Oh right, the Red Sox lost.

        • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Greg’s actually been around all night, If you had been here for the entire game, and not only shown up once we were down and it was late you’d know this.

          • jjyank

            +1

I have no problem with Greg. He can be pessimistic at times, but he’s not irrational. You, Widget, very well might be just that.

            • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

              Greg is totally irrational.

              • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

He has spouts of irrationality, sure, but overall he’s just a pessimistic dude. There’s nothing wrong with that per say.

                • Robinson Tilapia

I appreciate the fact that he’s a sports geek. I haven’t been that in years. I like having people around who can pull random names out of a hat during discussion, but also not make you feel like they’re trying to outsmart you.

WHEN DEREK JETER TELLS YOU TO DO SOMETHING YOU FUCKING DO IT!!!!!!1!!11!1!1!1!!

Greg may be a neurotic commenter, but he’s OUR neurotic commenter.

        • Robinson Tilapia

I somehow think you’re taking this more seriously than Greg is. Once upon a time, I didn’t think that was possible.

  • pistol pete

I love Granderson but why is he batting 2nd and Cano 5th vs a lefty. We just had a real scoring opportunity at the top of the order and our best hitter doesn’t bat, absurd. How about Swisher 2nd Cano 3rd Tex 4th and Arod 5th or are we too afraid of hurting ARod’s feelings. Our best hitter absolutely can not hit 5th. I wonder how many other teams have their best hitter hitting 5th.

    • Get Phelps Up

I personally think that ARod should be 2nd.

      Jeter
      ARod
      Grandy
      Cano
      Tex
      Swisher
      Jones
      Wise/Nix/Chavez
      Martin/Stewart

      • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Swap Grandy and Cano and I agree. Cano’s a better hitter, but Grandy hits more homeruns.

      • Robinson Tilapia

        Jeter
        Stuart
        Grandy
        Cano
        Tex
        Swisher
        Jones
        Wise/Nix/Chavez
        Martin/Stewart

        I fixed it for you.

    • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

“I love Granderson but why is he batting 2nd and Cano 5th vs a lefty.”

Probably because Granderson has been much better than Cano against lefties this year. For that matter, so has everyone else in today’s Yankee lineup.

  • pistol pete

Why not Grandy 6th vs leftys, he’s power guy and would fit better there vs leftys. Gotta get Cano up there where he hits in the 1st inning and hits where there’s more protection and have it more difficult to pitch around him. Now we get him leading off the next inning, great.

  • Greg

I;m not watching the game right now to avoid frustration. But it looks like Milone has us confused.

    • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

We’re winning 10-2. You should watch.

      • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Now that’s just not nice lol.

  • Mike N

This game is totally winnable. I am optimistic.

    • Tom

      I agree.

I think it’s going to take a long ball or two though.

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Best part about this game is we’re the old bloop and a blast from getting back in this.

Oh god, I’ve been listening to too much Sterling. I used the term “old bloop and a blast” non-ironically.

    • Robinson Tilapia

There’s your old bloop, you old bloop.

    • FIPster Doofus

The bloop’s out of the way. Now for the blast…

    • eephus_pitch

Suzyn just made her 5th crack about the A’s playing well because they’ve abandoned the Moneyball approach. Apparently this has happened because Billy Beane has let Bawb Melvin play the game the “old school” way.
Because you’ll remember how those Moneyball pitchers never hit their spawts when they pitched.

      • FIPster Doofus

Apparently she doesn’t realize that the Yankees front office makes use of advanced metrics. Idiot.

      • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

  • Tom

3-1 change…. take the damn pitch!

    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Dude, it looks like a fastball out of the pitchers hand, you usually don’t realize it’s a change up till you’ve committed to swinging. By then it’s too late and you hope you can slow your bat down enough to make contact.

      • Tom

He’s thrown enough of them in hitter counts just take the damn pitch.

You don’t need to be committed on 3-1. You are allowed to take a strike even if it’s a fastball. And since he’s shown a penchant to throw it behind in the count, maybe if you see iniitally see fastball at the bottom of the zone you just take it, in case it ends up a changeup below the zone.

Just commit to swinging if the pitch is UP… that’s why you get into hitter counts.

        • JohnnyC

That all would imply hitters think much. They don’t.

  • Mike N

    I’ll take that out.

    But why was Swish hobbling?????

  • Cy Pettitte

wonderful, now we may be down 2 outfielders.

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Just tonight. The next three meetings with this pitcher they will make him looke like Cory Wade or Sweaty Freddie.

    • Pinstripes In Cali

In their defense, Milone is a pretty damn good pitcher. He’s had some pretty bad outings this year, but when he’s on, he’s on.

Only 12 outfielders have played in more games since Swisher joined the Yankees. Hasn’t been on the DL in six years.

      • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

That has to be going back to his Oakland days…He hasn’t been a Yankee for that long has he?

        • FIPster Doofus

          Year 4. Time flies.

      • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Actually it’s ten outfielders because Carlos Lee has been playing first base for the last year and Zobrist splits time between the OF and 2B.

    • Nathan

I can’t remember him being hurt for anything longer than a few days, if any.

Guys play 100+ games and are bound to get a little banged up but Swish doesn’t seem to get banged up too bad/at all.

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

    some contact would be nice…

  • Greg

Well, now the lead might be going down to 8 games. Other fans have a sense of hope.

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

You think other fans have a sense of hope. Other fans are thinking wildcard.

    • Robinson Tilapia

Remember the ’96 World Series, when the Yankees won with a clutch bit of fan hope by Sal from Piscataway?

      • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

Hmmmm…I thought it was because I was wearing my lucky boxers.

        • Robinson Tilapia

      If they’re realistic, they don’t.

  • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

Nix is starting to remember he’s Lance Nix.

    Jones that he’s Andruw Jones

I’m guessing Wise will remember that he’s DeWayne Wise as well.

Voodoo magic for all the pre-game comments that rang of “we don’t need Gardner.”

    • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

      Hah. Jayson, that is.

    • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

Nix must be drunk if he’s remembering he’s Lance Nix.

    • Robinson Tilapia

Raul Ibanez literally just gave you the finger right there.

Of course he sets a career high in strike outs. This team…..

    • FIPster Doofus

Jones is too busy smiling to dive for baseballs.

      • Robinson Tilapia

He’s thinking about a better catch he made in ’02.

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Jones probably takes two steps to catch that because he actually knows where to position himself.

      • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Haha I know, I’m still beating the dead horse of a joke that Ibanez is a better fielder than Jones because he hustles. Seriously it sounds like an argument John or Suzyn would make.

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Ok, Nova did right the ship, and wound up having a good game, but this a good move by Girardi going to get him now.

    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

According to Axisa he (Swisher) hasn’t been on the DL in six seasons. http://riveraveblues.com/2012/.....nt-4577637

      • Pinstripes In Cali

yeah, I saw that, I’m trying to verify on my own. I have this nagging feeling that he had a hammy injury once that kept him out for a while…

And then I took that nagging feeling and turned it into “Swisher is made of glass”. Typical internet commenter.

      • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

It’s actually seven years, he missed three weeks with a separated shoulder in 2005.

        • Pinstripes In Cali

OK. Agreed. He never hits the DL. But look at all those DTD injuries to his legs over the past 2 years. 19 DTD injuries since 2010. Compare to Jeter (10 in the same period) and Cano (5). Even freakin Tex (13). Though A-Rod gives Swish a run for his money (19).

So correct- Swish doesn’t miss a ton of games. BUT, he does have lots of little injuries. My nagging feeling wasn’t totally off…

          • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

He didn’t even miss a game in ten of those 19 DTDs.

            • Pinstripes In Cali

              ALLRIGHT. I learned my lesson.

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Russel. Showing Mussel. We have to win this now.

  • Tom

By the way good move by Girardi with Logan over Rapada there. Seems like he realized Smith would be pinch hit for and at least Logan had a shot at getting him out.

If he goes to Rapada, it probably would have been an intentional walk and putting all your eggs into one basket (hitter).

  • Nathan

Ahhh Russell hit it right where I was sitting yesterday (LF BBQ terrace).

    Come on Yankees!

  • Mike N

    YEAH!

  • Get Phelps Up

2 more runs. Let’s do this.

  • Kempire Strikes Back

THE TYING RUN HAS BEEN BROUGHT TO THE PLATE PEOPLE

  • CBean

    Oh thank God!

  • Pinstripes In Cali

Damn. I guess Coco hadn’t been drinking prior to this inning.

  • Mike N

    Augghh!

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

    damn…I thought that was dropping.

  • Mike N

    Jack one Teix!

  • JohnnyC

Crisp has more range coming in than Curtis. Going back, Grandy’s o.k.

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

that looked the opposite of fun for a lot of people.

  • Kempire Strikes Back

I reiterate: Coco Crisp can go fuck himself.

  • JohnnyC

Nice time for Alex to hit one.

  • pistol pete

For a guy hitting under 200 Martin has power and has actually had some big hits this year. Just hard to believe in this lineup that by the time it gets around to Martin;s slot and the opposing pitchers are worn out that he can actually be hitting as poorly as he has this year. Hoping for a big 2nd half from him, he’s due.

  • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan

    Yay-Rod.

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

God damnit Alex. Take a pitch!

  • JohnnyC

    Guess not.

  • Mike N

    Fuuuuuuuuck.

  • Nathan

    Fuck.

  • pistol pete

Another top of the order man on base situation and our best hitter waits in the on deck circle. Girardi better get this situation straightened out. Batting Cano 5th tonight has cost the Yankees their best hitter not batting twice when he could have turned the game around. ARod really looks old this year, I’m a big ARod fan but 5 more years of this performance and probably more declining performance is going to be hard to watch.

    • JohnnyC

Excuse so far is the big lead in the division. But Girardi has to do it. Your best hitters should get the most ABs and ARod’s not among the best 4 hitters in the lineup.

      • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

        Who are the 4 better?
        Cano, Granderson, Tex, …?

        • Pinstripes In Cali

Jeet? the guy hitting over .300?

          • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

They’re close. Jeter definitely has the edge in AVG, and a slight edge in OBP, but ARod beats Jeter in SLG, OPS, wOBA, wRC+, and even SB. Overall, ARod has probably been slightly better offensively.

        • JohnnyC

and Swisher all have higher OPS than Alex. And Jeter is only 10 points behind him. Jones and Chavez also have higher OPS but they’re not regulars.

          • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

Right. Only 3 regulars have been clearly better. Jeter, Swisher, and ARod have all been very similar. I’m not sure ARod is definitely not in the top 4. At worst, he’s borderline. ARod is 4th among the regulars in wOBA/wRC+.

    • FIn

He has looked worse as the season has gone on. I dont think its all age regression, I think at least 50% of it is the hip. It wouldnt suprise me if his hip/lower body is bothering him, as his defense hasnt looked very good lately either. That contract was going to be even worse than all of us fans thought, the day he hurt his hip.

  • Pinstripes In Cali

I’ve only been watching since the sixth, and A-Rod has made the last out with RISP twice in that time. damn.

    • Tom

Guy on 1st is not RISP

      • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Yes it is with this lineup.

        • Tom

          Not with ARod’s power ;-)

      • Pinstripes In Cali

CHRIST. I’m drunk and it’s 6 in the morning. You people don’t cut a guy any slack, huh.

  • JohnnyC

Andruw Jones needs a golf cart or something.

    • Nathan

Looked like he was waiting for the ball to ricochet the wall back to him and mailed it in a bit.

      • JohnnyC

Looked like he was limping or running rather gingerly. Another guy waiting for a muscle pull.

    • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

But everyone loves to argue with me that Ibanez gets to balls that Andruw won’t. Not “can’t,” but “won’t.”

Because I’m making it all up out of nowhere.

  • FIPster Doofus

That was a sorry exhibition, Andruw.

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Jason Nix, BASEBALL PLAYER nearly cost the team another run with a god awful relay throw.

    • eephus_pitch

      Are they capitalizing it now?

      • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

only when they get excited lol. I’m almost sure they didn’t tell their radio audience, Jones let up going after the ball and Nix nearly air mailed the throw into the left field stands.

        • eephus_pitch

No, I certainly didn’t get any of that. I guess they didn’t want to criticize the BASEBALL PLAYER.

  • Mike N

Come on Yankees…no wins after trailing after the 8th. Time to change that!

  • Kempire Strikes Back

I see A-Rod has graced the A’s dugout with his presence.

  • Mike N

    ONE RUN! DO THIS!

  • Tom

Yankee pitching has been walking a tightrope most of the night, but 2 runs allowed should be a win.

Hopefully the Yankees get the bloop before the blast this inning.

    • Tom

      Two blasts will also work…

      I’m not picky.

    • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

      Nope

  • mt

The chickens will come to roost if Girardi does not move Cano up by playoffs. In playoffs, fans will be disappointed if Cano does not drive in runs with Arod on deck with 2 outs but if Arod is still batting fourth and Cano is on deck and AROD has 2 out RISPFAIL the boos will rain down from the heavens.

      • Darren

        Thanks guys.

  • pistol pete

Girardi fucked this game up batting Cano 5th. A lead off homer could have been much more in the middle of the 8th inning.

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

That’s not the way it works.

    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

If Robbie bats last inning he faces a lefty.

      • pistol pete

Who gives a shit, I’d rather have Robbie hit a lefty than watch ARod. It’s as simple as this, Cano should not be batting 5th, period.

You don’t if he would have hit a homer in that other situation.
      You’re nearing a fallacy

    • Mike N

Yeah, Girardi totally fucked this game up not arranging Cano’s homer to occur in the correct inning.

      • pistol pete

So I guess you’d bat him 5th too.

    • eephus_pitch

That’s some ridiculous fallacy shit there.

    • Tom

Yeah in a tie game (and with noone left on the bench) that seems odd.

    • Get Phelps Up

They want to give Chris Stewart a chance to PH and drive a go ahead triple off the glove of an infielder.

      • Tom

I would bat CC before Stewart.

        /only half kidding

        • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

I would be behind this decision 100%

  • eephus_pitch

They won’t be playing clips from this game at Andruw Jones’s Hall of Fame induction. Jee-suz.

  • mt

A’s have some big walk-offs this year as I recall – let’s hope tonight is not one of them.

    • mt

      9 walk-offs – almost 20% of their wins – wow.

      • Kramerica Industries

Four in the last eight home games, or something like that, too.

So they’re red hot at doing that stuff. Hopefully, not tonight.

  • Nathan

For the love of God, no balls hit to Clay please. He only knows how to throw to home plate and no other plates.

  • Mike N

Is Rapada gonna pitch past this batter?

  • pistol pete

Come on Rapada get the first guy, I’ve stayed up this long we might as well go extras and win.

  • Mike N

    Nope.

  • Mike N

That was a hideous chaw stream Rapada just expelled.

  • Tom

No need to throw a pitch remotely close to the zone

    • Tom

  • Widget

Yankees are in trouble / Greg

  • Wow

Well, that was underwhelming. Nothing quite like getting smacked around by the A’s.

  • Greg

Everybody asking for Phelps is forgetting two things.

    1. He had pitched 2.1 innings yesterday
    2. If you want him to start in Seattle, you cant pitch him here.

    • mt

Not Girardi’s style to switch to Phelps for the start in Seattle without teeing such a move up with comments (he actually praised Garcia for toughing it out in his post-game comments) so I will be very interested if he makes that move.

He probably think Phelps is needed more for the non-LOOGY/non-ROOGY role.

  • mt

LOOGY/ROOGY really hurts in a tie game on the road.

    • Tom

Well when you have 3 of them in the pen it is… the problem is the Yankees have just three “1 inning guys” and 1 (the closer) will be saved for a lead.

      • JohnnyC

Sadly, they called up Phelps for that role. Rather see him as starter over Freddy.

  • Kempire Strikes Back

jeter and arod can’t hit righthanders so far this year, ibanez has a 300 obp, martin is god awful. jones has been great, but he a platoon player.

maybe arod picks it up and on fansgraph has a 116 runs created, but a 777 ops isn’t acceptable.

jeter the king of cheap hits

  • Rek4gehrig

Hey yanks if you’re going to lose such games please at least do it whilst you’re on the east coast.

I certainly hope this is the last gane Cano bats 5th, it just cost us a win. We get Eppley on the mound in the 9th in a tie game. We might have had Soriano in the 9th with a lead. Things might have been different if Robbie not ARod was up with men on base instead of leading off innings two or three times as it worked out tonight. Nobody knows for sure how things would have worked out but can we all concede that against rightys or leftys Robbie cannot bat as far down as 5th. Please Joe grow some balls and make the change. Last year you wouldn’t hurt Tex’s feelings, now it’s ARod.

FALLACY for the previous statement you made on this same issue.

    • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

Robbie has been the Yankees worst everyday hitter vs. LHP this year. He’s not getting moved up against lefties until he actually starts consistently hitting lefties.

      • pistol pete

Cano hits leftys just fine, check his lifetime stats. Any reason Grandy hits 2nd vs leftys, do you want to compare his lifetime stats vs Robbie’s vs leftys. It just seems Cano has to prove over and over how good he is before he is moved ahead of his over priced teammates. The lineup shouldn’t have to do with the size of the contract as it has the past 2 yrs with Tex last year and Arod this year hitting ahead of Cano. He’s our best hitter in the prime of his career and should hit 3rd, everyday, period.

        • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too)

Has nothing to do with the contracts and everything to do with the fact Cano has been awful vs. LHP this season.

If you compare Grandy’s stats vs. lefties since KLong “fixed” his swing, he’s been better than Cano vs. lefties ever since then.

Also, studies have shown that for optimal run production, best hitter should hit 2nd or 4th, not 3rd.

          • pistol pete

Over the past three years Robbie’s hitting 303 and has an 860 ops vs leftys, move him up he’s in his prime, take some pressure off ARod he’s on the downside of his career.

  • stuart a

my bad arod has a 4 point higher slugging % then Nix give him an extension…………..

they should bat him 3rd so he gets more ab’s!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

nothing has changed on the arod front. binder boy and the blind mice(his apologists) are still either blind, stupid, or delusional on his value to the team.

    • Kempire Strikes Back

Im not sure he even knows it’s possible to respond to another comment.

      • Get Phelps Up

The reply button must not have enough RBIs.

        • eephus_pitch

If the reply button was Ike Davis it would definitely have enough RBIs.

  • pistol pete

Stuart you can bark all you want about ARod he is who he is. Maybe Joe should take a little pressure off him batting him in the 3 and 4 hole everyday. It’s pretty obvious he’s not worth 27m a year but in this lineup with Tex starting to hit he’d be a solid No 5 hitter and decent third baseman. If you’re pissed at ARod now you’re going to need a therapist the next 5 years.
