  1. Kempire Strikes Back says:

Who else is as sick and tired of the Dwight Howard situation as me? Apparently he’s now going to test the free agent market after next season regardless of whether he’s traded or not and won’t be signing any extensions. Makes business sense. But why the fuck did he opt into the final year of his current contract? He was never going to stay in Orlando and he could’ve gotten this out of the way this offseason. Was he under pressure by the Magic front office to opt in or is he just a total blockhead?

  2. Robinson Tilapia says:

Which bullshit-throwing young pitcher are we facing tonight?

  3. Greg says:

Damn, Jordany Valdespin. 4 pinch hit home runs.

    • forensic says:

Of course, why else would they start the worse-hitting-than-Russell-Martin Jason Bay? You have to keep Valdespin available just in case you’re able to stay close and need one AB late, earlier AB’s be damned!

  4. jjyank says:

Keep the streak alive! Go Yanks!

  5. FIPster Doofus says:

Milone’s home ERA is 1.03 in 52 innings. His xFIP is 4.12. Time for a correction.

  6. DERP says:

Let’s fucking kick their fucking asses.

  7. Robinson Tilapia says:

So do this Milone kid throw a 90 MPH fastball, but a 30 MPH changeup or something? Fucking A’s and their pitchers that disintegrate once they leave Oakland.

  8. forensic says:

    Jeter, patient as ever…

  9. eephus_pitch says:

Dammit. This guy throws a change-up. Things might not go too well for Teixeira.

  10. Pasta Stumbling Sojo says:

At the game. The ballpark is ugly but there’s usually a good crowd here in the bleachers. And Yankee fans are representing well.

  11. eephus_pitch says:

Please spare us the Maxwell Smart impression.

  12. Dino Velvet says:

kind of odd watching them play in daylight, while it’s 10:21 at home.

  13. hello all, how is everybody this evening?

    • Kempire Strikes Back says:

Weary. Staying up this late to watch baseball sucks, but I couldn’t watch the game yesterday and I want to get a good look at Yoenis Cespedes.

      • I live for west coast trips lol. I’m an insomniac and I work till 9 so the only time I get to watch full games is these west coast games.

        • Kempire Strikes Back says:

Heh, lucky you I guess. Why can’t they just start their baseball games at 4:00 p.m. in Oakland? It’s not like anyone there cares about baseball anyway. They should be more concerned about the lack of law enforcement in that city.

    • jjyank says:

      Excellent. Yourself?

      • Adjusting to life after The Dark Knight Rises. I will never be as excited for a movie as I was for this. And it delivered on every single level I expected.

        • jjyank says:

I’m looking forward to seeing it myself. Loved the first two.

        • Kempire Strikes Back says:

God do I want to watch that. I’ll probably get to see it in theaters sometime this week or next.

        • Pat D says:

My opinion is that it wasn’t as good as The Dark Knight, but that it was a satisfying conclusion. My dad referred to TDK as The Empire Strikes Back and TDKR as Return of the Jedi, in that regard.

I had to leave the theater in the first half of the movie because my stomach betrayed me. I’m planning to go see it again in a week or so.

Obviously I’m sorry for those people in Colorado. Just a complete and total tragedy.

          • Idk, Cause in my mind Empire was worlds better than Jedi, and I might give TDK a small edge over Rises. It just came out yesterday, so I don’t want to spoil anything but I can say that I thought there were no weaknesses and it was about as perfect as it could have been minus one thing.

            • And as to the tragedy in Colorado I feel awful for everybody involved. Even Nolan to an extent, don’t get me wrong I feel MUCH worse for the people who were directly involved and people who lost loved ones, but I feel like this movie is going to be stained with their blood because of one crazy person who deserves much worse than whatever he gets.

            • Pat D says:

Can you say what the one thing is that bothered you or is it a spoiler?

              • It didn’t even bother me that much it was just that it was so obvious that it was going to happen to anybody who knows anything about Nolan or just watched the first two movies. Also it was incredibly lacking in Bat-nipples on the suit and cheesy one liners about freezing people.

                • Pat D says:

I guess you’re referring to the ending.

Take that, Joel Schumacher. Though to be fair, the more I’ve heard after the fact, seems like the studio didn’t let him do what he wanted to do.

They almost messed this up too. I read a story that when The Dark Knight first debuted, WB went to Nolan like, “The next movie is going to feature The Riddler, and we want DiCaprio.” Which wouldn’t have been bad, per se, but that they thought they had the control. Then TDK grosses went boom and Nolan had the power. Especially then after Inception hit it big.

                  • Nolan was also slightly on board with the DiCaprio Riddler idea, but he didn’t do it 9and din’t want to) because Riddler and Joker are similar villians.
Also, I agree with your first point because Nolan explicitly said he wasn’t going to do anything after the first film. I love Nolan as a director, but if I had to give it one minus point from a direction POV, the pacing was a little slow in my opinion but it worked.

            • Robinson Tilapia says:

Will always have a soft spot for “Jedi.” The fucking Ewoks.

        • Dino Velvet says:

people are dying to see this movie

    • Robinson Tilapia says:

Vodka. Muddled strawberries. Simple syrup. And you?

    • forensic says:

Adult beverage, The Show, Yankees game, and cheery wife and baby. All early enough to still get up well for work in the morning. How much better could you be doing (other than not getting up for work, but you gotta give some to take some)?

  14. Pasta Stumbling Sojo says:

At the game. The ballpark is ugly but there’s usually a good crowd here in the bleachers. And Yankee fans are representing well tonight.

  15. Tom says:

A bit off topic… but you have to love the ESPN BBTN guys saying 9-2 lead how is Strasburg in the game?!?!? He’s gotz inningz limitz – be smart save an inning here or there.

    It’s now 9-8 in the 8th inning.

  16. Wow, Cespedis looks like a linebacker and runs like a wide out.

  17. Greg says:

I told you guys, we weren’t going to roll over them like last time.

  18. Will The Thrill says:

    Nova not pitching with confidence.

  19. your mom says:

Nova’s all over the damn place. Not good.

  20. Cuso says:

God, Comcast Sports Net -Bay Area coverage is so pathetic. They cut away after every strike thrown by an A’s pitcher or every out by a Yankee or every good miniscule game element for the A’s to:

this one particular section of fans in the mezzanine level where the fans are packed in so it looks like the seats are full. They do closeups and pan arounds these fans right in their faces. It’s so obvious also because the fans have this blank look on their faces and then on cue from the cameraman they start cheering and mugging for the camera.

It’s akin to a studio audience “applause” prompt.

    • Will The Thrill says:

Well. Just be happy that we were born Yankee fans and not Oakland Athletics or Houston Astros fans.

      • Cuso says:

I know. They do the same thing at the Trop. But in Oakland it’s almost as if they were plucked off the street to star as an audience member for tonight’s telecast.

  21. matt says:

Jesus Ivan, pitch yourself into and out of trouble, dodge the bullet, now just settle down baby.

  22. jjyank says:

Whew. A lot of pitches for Nova though. Hopefully he settles down.

  23. Ivan’s gotta continue taking advantage of this gigantic strike zone he has while he still has it.

  24. Will The Thrill says:

Tommy Milone is the exactly the kind of pitcher that gives the Yankees trouble, a crafty lefty.

    • Greg says:

The 2010 Brett Cecil model. Medium tossing lefty with a good changeup

      • Will The Thrill says:

Boy am I glad that the Blue Jays ruined him. 2010 Brett Cecil was annoyingly good at getting the Yankees to ground into at least three double plays a game.

  25. Kempire Strikes Back says:

Did I mention how much I like Inge? I like him a lot. I think the Yankees should be interested in Inge.

  26. Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too) says:

    Nice comeback inning.

  27. your mom says:

    Sogard is one intimidating-looking MoFo.

  28. Greg says:

Great inning by Nova. Gets him almost even with Milone through two innings.

  29. Rich in NJ says:

If Martin played 81 games in this park, he might hit under .100.

  30. jjyank says:

If Nix was Chris Stewart, that would have been a triple.

  31. Will The Thrill says:

Tommy Milone looks a lot like Fred Armisen. Tell me you guys see it!

  32. Greg says:

And the Nationals have blown a 9-0 lead. 10-9 Braves

  33. cc says:

almost even? The score is 0-0.

  34. jjyank says:

Andrew McCutchen his hitting .459 against lefties??!! Good Mo.

  35. Robinson Tilapia says:

This stadium needs to be torched.

  36. Hooray…let’s see if Oakland can RISPFAIL like the Yankees of May.

  37. your mom says:

    I hate Coco Crisp.

  38. Will The Thrill says:

I really hope the Yanks keep expanding on their division lead and don’t let anyone make up too much ground. We’re going to see a lot of the Red Sox, Rays, Orioles and Blue Jays in the remaining part of the season. It would be nice to have a cushion to fall on just in case we drop too many games against division opponents.

  39. I think Cano makes that play, but you know Nix is a baseball player

  40. Will The Thrill says:

Nova has been either AJ Burnett or Mike Mussina this year. Frustratingly inconsistent.

  41. Kempire Strikes Back says:

  42. your mom says:

2nd time thru the order, time to do something.

  43. eephus_pitch says:

I don’t think Ma and Pa care for Moneyball.

  44. Will The Thrill says:

I know Cespedes hasn’t been a superstar as advertised but he’s been solid. Still would’ve loved for the Yanks to sign him or Soler. Our outfield options beyond 2013 are bleak if we choose to let Swisher and Grandy go.

  45. jjyank says:

Dammit Nova. It worked, and I know it’s just a reflex, but I hate it when they do that.

Who was the guy a couple months ago I argued with about that? I believe the crux of his defense was “I see cars passing in the street and I don’t stick my hand out in front of them.” Probably R$IP/Dumbestguyintheworld Playing with balls, who whatever his handle is these days.

  46. Jerome S. says:

The sound of that vuvuzella in the background is beginning to convince me that there’s some sort of fly in my room.

  47. Kempire Strikes Back says:

Tex with the Chris Stewartian hit.

  48. Karl Krawfid says:

    WHy Tex. Why.

  49. Wow..why? Why would you try for third Tex?

  50. Robinson Tilapia says:

    …..but I thought I coulda made it ta third….

  51. Greg says:

That was dumb. Not a good sign

  52. Jeff Karstens, Male Model says:

    Terrible baserunning.

  53. Pat D says:

    Dammit Teix.

Right now this just has the feeling of a series where the breaks aren’t going their way. Plenty of time to change that. Wake up, guys!

    • Tom Q says:

In the replay it looked like Robbie Thompson was waving him to come, or am I imagining things? My first impulse was to blame Tex, but I wonder if Robbie deserves blame.

  54. Kramerica Industries says:

That was such an obvious mistake.

  55. Will The Thrill says:

Wow. Yankees need to go to baserunning school.

  56. Kempire Strikes Back says:

What the hell was Tex thinking? He would have been out even if he didn’t hesitate.

  57. mt says:

Why do slow Yankee runners keep getting thrown out on bases?

  58. Get Phelps Up says:

  59. jjyank says:

    Damn it Tex.

  60. your mom says:

Fudge, not one of THESE games again.

    • mt says:

I know what you mean – yesterday’s loss was their first loss in a while where you couldn’t point to horrible base running or defense or bad starting/relief pitching – was a “normal” loss. This one might be one of the bad ones again.

  61. Tom says:

Just following online – was that Tex or 3rd base coach Jack Kervorkian?

  62. Nathan says:

I wouldn’t even suggest Jeter, the “quickest” Yankee right now given Gardner being out, to try that against Reddick’s arm. Bad decision, Tex.

  63. your mom says:

Reddick is a former Red Sox player, can he go fuck himself too?

  64. Will The Thrill says:

One day the Yankees will have a scouting reports on outfielder’s arms and use that information to make base running decisions.

  65. mt says:

Nova adds to his extra base hit lead.

  66. Kramerica Industries says:

Nova has been getting fricken’ hammered out there.

  67. Kempire Strikes Back says:

Give up another XBH why don’t ya

  68. Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too) says:

Batting practice is running late today.

  69. Brandon Inge? really? Fucking A man, step up.

  70. Nathan says:

It’s early, yes…but this is starting to feel like one of those series where the Yankees just can’t do anything.

It’s part of the game but when the A’s (!) are beating you, that makes it painful.

  71. Athenian says:

A’s are hot an Dyaks left their bats an ditching at home. Tale of two teams, with Oakland

  72. Robinson Tilapia says:

This game’s annoying. It feels like it’s the Hunger Games out there.

  73. Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too) says:

  74. Get Phelps Up says:

    WTF Nova??

  75. Pat D says:

    Wow, Nova.

  76. DERP says:

Nice of April Nova to show up again.

  77. Mr. Pink says:

Sometimes I think the notion of Ivan Nova being a good pitcher has been fueled by his propensity to receive great run support and pitch out of jams. I don’t know what to make of him. Sometimes I think he’s one of the best pitchers in the rotation and sometimes I think he needs serious work.

  78. eephus_pitch says:

    Dear Suzyn Waldman, you idiot:

    Sorry, “spawts.”

  79. Mike N says:

    What’s happening, homesies?

  80. DERP says:

Does anyone think we should score some runs here?

  81. Kempire Strikes Back says:

I’m impressed he kept them to only one run in that inning.

  82. Jerome S. says:

Admittedly, 2 runs over 4 innings isn’t oh-my-god-terrible, and it would seem better if the offense was more alive.

    • Kempire Strikes Back says:

Tommy Milone is perpetuating the “Yankees can’t beat lefty, soft-tossing rookies that they’ve never seen before” narrative. Ditto whoever the fuck was pitching for the A’s yesterday.

    • Robinson Tilapia says:

  83. pistol pete says:

Great decision by the 3rd base coach last inning. You’ve got the hottest hitter on the planet coming up with nowhere to put him and you take a chance with Tex who can’t run going to third and being thrown out by ten feet. Absurd.

    • Tom Q says:

It was Thompson, yes? I was originally screaming at Tex, but on the replay it looked as if Robbie was rotating his arm to say “Keep coming”. No one else here seems to have noticed it.

  84. Mr. Pink says:

I want to stay up for this game but I feel like it won’t be worth it.

  85. Mr. Pink says:

Quintin Berry needs to calm down. He hasn’t earned the right to celebrate that much and be that cocky.

  86. your mom says:

Dude’s thrown 14 of 16 first pitch strikes. No wonder we’re struggling offensively. Kinda hard when you’re behind the count all the damn time.

  87. DERP says:

This fuck doesn’t strike anyone out before today.

  88. James A says:

This is turning into a Cliff Lee 2010 ALCS impression. It’s amazing watching the differences between nova and milone

  89. Mike N says:

    It’s only a two-run game. That’s nothing.

  90. Athenian says:

14′s over last two games. Not good

  91. your mom says:

Wow, just wow, K’d the side. How frustrating is the offense tonight?

  92. forensic says:

Anyone know when the Yankees flight lands in Oakland? I’m wondering if I can drive from Vegas and still see them at the airport.

  93. Kempire Strikes Back says:

8 strikeouts for Milone through 5. Not to mention he’s on a complete game pace. At least it’s still a close game. Nova’s bent but he hasn’t broken so far.

  94. Tom says:

So a guy who’s striking out just under 6/9IP has 8K’s in 5 innings and has struck out nearly 50% of the batters he’s faced (8 of 17)

  95. Kramerica Industries says:

Three straight innings where Nova has surrendered an extra base hit to start the inning.

  96. Nathan says:

Seems like every A’s inning starts with a hit. Geez.

  97. DERP says:

    Fuck Nova.

    • Kempire Strikes Back says:

Geez, I know he didn’t go to the University of Maryland but…..

    • Robinson Tilapia says:

Tall Dominicans are your type, eh?

In all seriousness, two runs in five innings. Won’t win any style points tonight, but he’s not the problem.

  98. Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too) says:

Nova trying to clinch the “Most XBHs given up in the season” crown in July.

  99. eephus_pitch says:

    Jayson Nix:

  100. Athenian says:

AB’s have 3 less doubles than the number K’s than the Yanks. And yet only down 2-0.

  101. Mike N says:

It’s only the end of the fifth, plenty of time for Yanks bats to come alive. And Nova is holding tough.

  102. your mom says:

Honestly, we wouldn’t be bitching about Nova if our offense had shown up tonight. That being said, I’m outta here. Hopefully we pull off the win.

  103. FIn says:

Seems like the Yankees are a bit flat after getting the double digit lead in the east and long road trip out west. Cant be suprised.

  104. If your OBP is >.300 you shouldn’t be getting out of the way of inside pitches. just let them clip you and try to take first base.

  105. Get Phelps Up says:

As shaky as Nova has looked, you gotta give him credit for not completely imploding and keeping us in the game.

  106. Mike N says:

It is very physiologically difficult to travel three time zones, so that is clearly a factor.

  107. Tom says:

Granderson needs to sit on a curve here.

  108. Wrong part of the bat there Grandy.

  109. Nathan says:

    Granderson has cooled off.

  110. Robinson Tilapia says:

    Oof. Curtis almost had that.

  111. forensic says:

We’ve (or at least I’ve) been so spoiled by their play over a month or two that even these last two games where they haven’t been down by more than two have felt like they’ve been down by 7 or 8. It’s amazing how the perspective changes sometimes.

    • Nathan says:

Granted the A’s have been hot but they’re still the A’s. Aside from Reddick and Cespedes, they aren’t scary.

Replace the A’s with virtually any other team and I’m not too upset about yesterday and the first 5 innings.

  112. Mike N says:

  113. FIn says:

I think arod has like 3 rbi’s this month, only so much one man can do in a month.

  114. Kempire Strikes Back says:

Is it too much to ask for an A-Bomb here?

  115. Widget says:

I hate having A-Rod bat in front of Cano. Travesty.

  116. Robinson Tilapia says:

The wonders of 5.1 surround: A vuvuzulla in the rear left speaker.

  117. Mike Axisa says:

    A-Rod won’t see another fastball.

  118. Nathan says:

  119. Mike N says:

None of those two-strike pitches were strikes.

  120. Kempire Strikes Back says:

Stuart a to enter in 3…2…1…..

  121. ArchStanton says:

Time to drop him in the order already. Enough is enough.

  122. Good news, the kid is at 90 pitches, any idea on how far he’s able to go before he gets pulled?

  123. Tom says:

Wow, they really seem to be chasing that changeup; not a very disciplined approach tonight

  124. Widget says:

    5 more years!!!!!!!!!!!!

  125. pistol pete says:

I love Granderson but why is he batting 2nd and Cano 5th vs a lefty. We just had a real scoring opportunity at the top of the order and our best hitter doesn’t bat, absurd. How about Swisher 2nd Cano 3rd Tex 4th and Arod 5th or are we too afraid of hurting ARod’s feelings. Our best hitter absolutely can not hit 5th. I wonder how many other teams have their best hitter hitting 5th.

  126. pistol pete says:

Why not Grandy 6th vs leftys, he’s power guy and would fit better there vs leftys. Gotta get Cano up there where he hits in the 1st inning and hits where there’s more protection and have it more difficult to pitch around him. Now we get him leading off the next inning, great.

  127. Greg says:

I;m not watching the game right now to avoid frustration. But it looks like Milone has us confused.

  128. Mike N says:

This game is totally winnable. I am optimistic.

  129. Best part about this game is we’re the old bloop and a blast from getting back in this.

Oh god, I’ve been listening to too much Sterling. I used the term “old bloop and a blast” non-ironically.

  130. Cy Pettitte says:

there’s one streak. now we just need 3 runs.

  131. Robinson Tilapia says:

  132. Kempire Strikes Back says:

    Robbie’s streak lives…

  133. Mike N says:

    C’mon Swish!

  134. Hopefully this kid’s like pedro, nasty for the first 100 pitches then falls to shit…

  135. Tom says:

3-1 change…. take the damn pitch!

    • Dude, it looks like a fastball out of the pitchers hand, you usually don’t realize it’s a change up till you’ve committed to swinging. By then it’s too late and you hope you can slow your bat down enough to make contact.

      • Tom says:

He’s thrown enough of them in hitter counts just take the damn pitch.

You don’t need to be committed on 3-1. You are allowed to take a strike even if it’s a fastball. And since he’s shown a penchant to throw it behind in the count, maybe if you see iniitally see fastball at the bottom of the zone you just take it, in case it ends up a changeup below the zone.

Just commit to swinging if the pitch is UP… that’s why you get into hitter counts.

  136. Mike N says:

    I’ll take that out.

    But why was Swish hobbling?????

  137. Cy Pettitte says:

wonderful, now we may be down 2 outfielders.

  138. Swish pulled up lame…possible hammy, looks like he’s holding his quad.

  139. Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too) says:

    That’s not good.

The asking price for OF’s just went up.

  140. CBean says:

Noooo we can’t lose anymore outfielders!

  141. Pat D says:

  142. Robinson Tilapia says:

Oh boy. It may be Fukudome time.

  143. Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too) says:

That may have been just a bit high, Andruw.

  144. Nathan says:

The Yankees are making this guy look like a lefty Greg Maddux with all the swings and misses.

  145. Pinstripes In Cali says:

Is Swish made of glass or something? I feel like that dude gets hurt all the damn time.

  146. Greg says:

Well, now the lead might be going down to 8 games. Other fans have a sense of hope.

  147. Cuso says:

Nix is starting to remember he’s Lance Nix.

    Jones that he’s Andruw Jones

I’m guessing Wise will remember that he’s DeWayne Wise as well.

Voodoo magic for all the pre-game comments that rang of “we don’t need Gardner.”

  148. Kempire Strikes Back says:

Of course he sets a career high in strike outs. This team…..

  149. Kevin says:

Yankees farm system gonna get wrecked.

  150. Ibanez makes that play cause he hustles Jones only dreams of getting to it.

  151. Ok, Nova did right the ship, and wound up having a good game, but this a good move by Girardi going to get him now.

  152. Mike N says:

Please tell me Qualls has been sent down.

  153. Robinson Tilapia says:

Once upon a time, a night to myself meant calling everyone else I knew and going drinking. Now it means keeping quiet and not waking the baby. Have a good night, everyone. I expect the Yankees to bring the tying run to the plate and for that run to SCORE.

  154. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

    Atta Boone.

  155. Pinstripes In Cali says:

seriously, though. Anyone know where to dig up DL-stint history? it must be on B-ref somewhere, right?

  156. this commercial for the NY lottery is just so off-putting…the large heads…and the whistling, and the stalking…

    • Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

The Lexus commercial with the dog is unbearable. And that David Pankin guy makes me want to murder him.

  157. Mike N says:

    Let’s win this fucker!!!!!!!!

  158. Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too) says:

    Doing something useful!!!!

  159. Russel. Showing Mussel. We have to win this now.

  160. Tom says:

By the way good move by Girardi with Logan over Rapada there. Seems like he realized Smith would be pinch hit for and at least Logan had a shot at getting him out.

If he goes to Rapada, it probably would have been an intentional walk and putting all your eggs into one basket (hitter).

  161. Nathan says:

Ahhh Russell hit it right where I was sitting yesterday (LF BBQ terrace).

    Come on Yankees!

  162. Mike N says:

  163. Get Phelps Up says:

2 more runs. Let’s do this.

  164. Kempire Strikes Back says:

  165. CBean says:

    Oh thank God!

  166. Pinstripes In Cali says:

Damn. I guess Coco hadn’t been drinking prior to this inning.

  167. Mike N says:

  168. damn…I thought that was dropping.

  169. Mike N says:

    Jack one Teix!

  170. JohnnyC says:

Crisp has more range coming in than Curtis. Going back, Grandy’s o.k.

  171. that looked the opposite of fun for a lot of people.

  172. Kempire Strikes Back says:

I reiterate: Coco Crisp can go fuck himself.

  173. JohnnyC says:

Nice time for Alex to hit one.

  174. pistol pete says:

For a guy hitting under 200 Martin has power and has actually had some big hits this year. Just hard to believe in this lineup that by the time it gets around to Martin;s slot and the opposing pitchers are worn out that he can actually be hitting as poorly as he has this year. Hoping for a big 2nd half from him, he’s due.

  175. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

  176. JohnnyC says:

    Guess not.

  177. Mike N says:

  178. Nathan says:

  179. pistol pete says:

Another top of the order man on base situation and our best hitter waits in the on deck circle. Girardi better get this situation straightened out. Batting Cano 5th tonight has cost the Yankees their best hitter not batting twice when he could have turned the game around. ARod really looks old this year, I’m a big ARod fan but 5 more years of this performance and probably more declining performance is going to be hard to watch.

    • JohnnyC says:

Excuse so far is the big lead in the division. But Girardi has to do it. Your best hitters should get the most ABs and ARod’s not among the best 4 hitters in the lineup.

      • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too) says:

        Who are the 4 better?
        Cano, Granderson, Tex, …?

        • Pinstripes In Cali says:

Jeet? the guy hitting over .300?

          • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too) says:

They’re close. Jeter definitely has the edge in AVG, and a slight edge in OBP, but ARod beats Jeter in SLG, OPS, wOBA, wRC+, and even SB. Overall, ARod has probably been slightly better offensively.

        • JohnnyC says:

and Swisher all have higher OPS than Alex. And Jeter is only 10 points behind him. Jones and Chavez also have higher OPS but they’re not regulars.

          • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too) says:

Right. Only 3 regulars have been clearly better. Jeter, Swisher, and ARod have all been very similar. I’m not sure ARod is definitely not in the top 4. At worst, he’s borderline. ARod is 4th among the regulars in wOBA/wRC+.

    • FIn says:

He has looked worse as the season has gone on. I dont think its all age regression, I think at least 50% of it is the hip. It wouldnt suprise me if his hip/lower body is bothering him, as his defense hasnt looked very good lately either. That contract was going to be even worse than all of us fans thought, the day he hurt his hip.

  180. Pinstripes In Cali says:

I’ve only been watching since the sixth, and A-Rod has made the last out with RISP twice in that time. damn.

  181. JohnnyC says:

Andruw Jones needs a golf cart or something.

    • Nathan says:

Looked like he was waiting for the ball to ricochet the wall back to him and mailed it in a bit.

    • Cuso says:

But everyone loves to argue with me that Ibanez gets to balls that Andruw won’t. Not “can’t,” but “won’t.”

Because I’m making it all up out of nowhere.

  182. FIPster Doofus says:

That was a sorry exhibition, Andruw.

  183. Jason Nix, BASEBALL PLAYER nearly cost the team another run with a god awful relay throw.

  184. Mike N says:

    Don’t allow any runs here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  185. Mike N says:

    YES! Good play!!!!!!!!!

  186. Mike N says:

  187. Nathan says:

Come on Yankees…no wins after trailing after the 8th. Time to change that!

  188. Kempire Strikes Back says:

I see A-Rod has graced the A’s dugout with his presence.

  189. Mike N says:

  190. Tom says:

Yankee pitching has been walking a tightrope most of the night, but 2 runs allowed should be a win.

Hopefully the Yankees get the bloop before the blast this inning.

  191. mt says:

The chickens will come to roost if Girardi does not move Cano up by playoffs. In playoffs, fans will be disappointed if Cano does not drive in runs with Arod on deck with 2 outs but if Arod is still batting fourth and Cano is on deck and AROD has 2 out RISPFAIL the boos will rain down from the heavens.

  192. Pinstripes In Cali says:

  193. FIPster Doofus says:

  194. Wil Nieves Number 1 Fan says:

    Yes, motherfuckersssss.

  195. Jerome S. says:

    MY OH MY

  196. Kramerica Industries says:

  197. Cy Pettitte says:

Robbie!!!! now we need one more for the streak and hopefully a win.

  198. Kempire Strikes Back says:

    Robbie is sooooooooo good.

  199. ryan says:

Pathetic. Trashes me, blocks me so I can’t see that crap, then calls me a name. All while not giving me a single example of why I suck.

    marc carig

    is he talking bout wally?

  200. CBean says:

    I love you Robinson Cano!

  201. eephus_pitch says:

Sorry, Ryan Cook. You got an ERA now.

  202. Mike N says:

  203. Get Phelps Up says:

Extend the streak, get a win.

  204. Darren says:

Can someone describe the homerun? I’m listening to Sterling.

  205. pistol pete says:

Girardi fucked this game up batting Cano 5th. A lead off homer could have been much more in the middle of the 8th inning.

  206. Mike Axisa says:

Are they giving up the DH now? What the hell.

  207. eephus_pitch says:

They won’t be playing clips from this game at Andruw Jones’s Hall of Fame induction. Jee-suz.

  208. mt says:

A’s have some big walk-offs this year as I recall – let’s hope tonight is not one of them.

  209. Nathan says:

For the love of God, no balls hit to Clay please. He only knows how to throw to home plate and no other plates.

  210. Mike N says:

Is Rapada gonna pitch past this batter?

  211. pistol pete says:

Come on Rapada get the first guy, I’ve stayed up this long we might as well go extras and win.

  212. Mike N says:

  213. Mike N says:

That was a hideous chaw stream Rapada just expelled.

  214. Tom says:

No need to throw a pitch remotely close to the zone

    • Tom says:

Offense didn’t get it done tonight.

Can’t get it done every night, but 2 runs against Milone et al isn’t going to win very often.

  215. FIPster Doofus says:

Not for nothing, but Cespedes looks awesome in a baseball uniform.

  216. Greg says:

    This guy just rakes

  217. Mike N says:

    C’mon Eppley!

  218. Kempire Strikes Back says:

    Get Phelps up

  219. Pinstripes In Cali says:

  220. Greg says:

Everything has gone the A’s way in this series.

  221. Kramerica Industries says:

    Lousy luck on that.

Oakland is a very Yankees-like 2-13 with RISP tonight. Need some more of that now.

  222. Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too) says:

  223. Mike N says:

  224. Adam says:

Bean Cespedes tomorrow 100% of the time.

  225. JobaWockeeZ says:

Get well soon Joba. You too Aardsma.

  226. Cy Pettitte says:

Girardi is an idiot for not having Phelps up

  227. Kempire Strikes Back says:

    What the fuck.

  228. JohnnyC says:

Fucking oogys in the pen. Cashman get some relievers here already.

  229. Get Phelps Up says:

    Needs more Phelps.

    • Adam says:

That streak was unimportant to follow period. No reason to keep caring about it. Robinson Cano’s yes. This one no.

  230. mt says:

I stayed up all night to watch A’s walk off for tenth time.

  231. Widget says:

Yankees are in trouble / Greg

  232. Wow says:

Well, that was underwhelming. Nothing quite like getting smacked around by the A’s.

  233. Greg says:

Everybody asking for Phelps is forgetting two things.

    1. He had pitched 2.1 innings yesterday
    2. If you want him to start in Seattle, you cant pitch him here.

    • mt says:

Not Girardi’s style to switch to Phelps for the start in Seattle without teeing such a move up with comments (he actually praised Garcia for toughing it out in his post-game comments) so I will be very interested if he makes that move.

He probably think Phelps is needed more for the non-LOOGY/non-ROOGY role.

  234. Jerome S. says:

When was the last time this team lost two games in a row?

  235. mt says:

LOOGY/ROOGY really hurts in a tie game on the road.

    • Tom says:

Well when you have 3 of them in the pen it is… the problem is the Yankees have just three “1 inning guys” and 1 (the closer) will be saved for a lead.

  236. Kempire Strikes Back says:

Glad I stayed up to watch that….

    Cody Eppley sucks

    Fuck the Athletics

    Goodnight everybody

  237. Greg says:

I knew this series would be difficult. They better get up tomorrow or the division lead could be coming down.

  238. Nathan says:

    Fuck fuck fuck

  239. Widget says:

Offense was bound to cool off. They still have an 8 game lead and they lost no ground on best record in the AL.

And the Red Sox and Beckett got their ass kicked so it’s not a totally bad baseball night.

  240. teddy says:

might want to try mongomery over appley.

batting arod 4th over cano isn’t very smart.

if swisher dl, who they bring up mcdonald.

out of 9 hitters yanks have 2 good hitters, 2 ok ones ones, 5 bad ones

  241. Rek4gehrig says:

Hey yanks if you’re going to lose such games please at least do it whilst you’re on the east coast.

  242. stuart a says:

Arod still with a whopping 41 rbi’s he friggin sucks. tried to guess in the 7th or so and jump a first pitch fastball.

the guy fuckin sucks and is hitting 4th. Binder boy is a friggin moron.

arod hit 1 ball near the warning track so have a parade…..he is a slap hitting joke….

  243. pistol pete says:

I certainly hope this is the last gane Cano bats 5th, it just cost us a win. We get Eppley on the mound in the 9th in a tie game. We might have had Soriano in the 9th with a lead. Things might have been different if Robbie not ARod was up with men on base instead of leading off innings two or three times as it worked out tonight. Nobody knows for sure how things would have worked out but can we all concede that against rightys or leftys Robbie cannot bat as far down as 5th. Please Joe grow some balls and make the change. Last year you wouldn’t hurt Tex’s feelings, now it’s ARod.

    • Greg says:

FALLACY for the previous statement you made on this same issue.

    • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too) says:

Robbie has been the Yankees worst everyday hitter vs. LHP this year. He’s not getting moved up against lefties until he actually starts consistently hitting lefties.

      • pistol pete says:

Cano hits leftys just fine, check his lifetime stats. Any reason Grandy hits 2nd vs leftys, do you want to compare his lifetime stats vs Robbie’s vs leftys. It just seems Cano has to prove over and over how good he is before he is moved ahead of his over priced teammates. The lineup shouldn’t have to do with the size of the contract as it has the past 2 yrs with Tex last year and Arod this year hitting ahead of Cano. He’s our best hitter in the prime of his career and should hit 3rd, everyday, period.

        • Need Pitching (and maybe hitting too) says:

Has nothing to do with the contracts and everything to do with the fact Cano has been awful vs. LHP this season.

If you compare Grandy’s stats vs. lefties since KLong “fixed” his swing, he’s been better than Cano vs. lefties ever since then.

Also, studies have shown that for optimal run production, best hitter should hit 2nd or 4th, not 3rd.

          • pistol pete says:

Over the past three years Robbie’s hitting 303 and has an 860 ops vs leftys, move him up he’s in his prime, take some pressure off ARod he’s on the downside of his career.

  244. stuart a says:

my bad arod has a 4 point higher slugging % then Nix give him an extension…………..

they should bat him 3rd so he gets more ab’s!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  245. pistol pete says:

Gardy out for the year any ideas who the Yanks might shop for in the outfield or do you think they’ll stay with what they have.

  246. stuart a says:

i could not bitch about arod the lady recently I was out of town but nothing has changed he still guess ll the time, he cannot hit a fast ball inside, and binder boy and his legion of apologists are still in denial.

    arod friggin sucks……….

  247. stuart a says:

nothing has changed on the arod front. binder boy and the blind mice(his apologists) are still either blind, stupid, or delusional on his value to the team.

I could not bitch the last few games I was out of pocket but arod still sucks and did nothing the last few games per his usual…

  248. stuart a says:

axisa i was out of town. how can ypou continue to support arod the guy is a friggin joke………….

what are you watching or smoking..

the best team in baseball has a slap hitting guess hitter batting 4th ……..

i think only bloggers here and girardi have not gotten the message arod sucks…………….

yanks only lost the last 2 not 3 btw……….

  249. stuart a says:

the guy has 41 friggin rbi’s… he has done shit the whole year..

    on pace for 73 rbi’s……

I forgot RBI’s mean nothing according to you einsteins………….

  250. Dino Velvet says:

There goes teh consecutive 3 runs per game streak :(

  251. I really don’t get why any of you bother with stuart a anymore. it’s just a waste of time and energy to answer him. He never responds anyway.

  252. pistol pete says:

Stuart you can bark all you want about ARod he is who he is. Maybe Joe should take a little pressure off him batting him in the 3 and 4 hole everyday. It’s pretty obvious he’s not worth 27m a year but in this lineup with Tex starting to hit he’d be a solid No 5 hitter and decent third baseman. If you’re pissed at ARod now you’re going to need a therapist the next 5 years.
