Game 113: Beat the Jays
ByThe Yankees have a nice little three-game winning streak going, and they’ve won five of their last eight games overall. It doesn’t feel like it though, it’ll take more than a nice eight-game stretch to wash away the stench of those three awful weeks starting out in Oakland. New York has a chance to win their first three-game series in Toronto in more than three years this afternoon, and here’s the lineup Joe Girardi is running out there…
DH Derek Jeter
RF Nick Swisher
1B Mark Teixeira
2B Robinson Cano
LF Andruw Jones
CF Curtis Granderson
SS Jayson Nix
3B Casey McGehee
C Chris Stewart
RHP Ivan Nova
This afternoon’s game starts a little after 1pm ET and can be seen on YES locally and MLB Network nationally. Enjoy.

Awfully pessimistic post. Three game winning streak! Toronto is a mess. No reason not to be optimistic.
Well Yankees just got out of a very rough stretch, they lost half their lead in the division.
Yanks beat their best pitcher last night. It should get better from here….
He’s their best pitcher in theory. But Romero’s been terrible this year.
That being said, they really should tee off of Laffey.
If the Yankees lose, it will be because Nova stunk. No good reason not to win here.
Of course. Nova needs to pull it together, they shouldn’t get shut out by Laffey.
Surprise afternoon game caught me off guard.
Man, I remember when I used to look forward to Nova’s starts. Good times.
Why is everybody on edge about CC excessively? Mild elbow soreness is much better than full on pain.
There should be a bit of concern, but not all out panic.
I feel like we’ve reversed roles, Greg.
I’m not panicked, but I don’t take much stock in the team saying that soreness is all it is. They have no reason not to downplay it, so I won’t draw conclusions from it. I am very worried though.
If they felt worse about it and hiding it, they would have sent him ahead to New York and would have gotten an MRI on it.
True. I just feel like the Yankees are one more big injury away before I start to really worry about the team in general, so I worry about this more because of the context.
Some people believe the glass is always half full–others believe half empty. A small number of fence sitters split the difference.
The half-empty position is safest of the three. When it’s wrong, you feel elated. The half-full is an invitation to devastation.
As for the fence sitters, did Dante not place them in Hell?
So the fence sitters are half-half-full and half-half-empty?
Half full optimist here. But I’m an artist so devastation is familiar territory (along with failure, poverty, obscurity . . . .)
I get the picture.
No, the glass is completely full. Half with a liquid, half with a gas
http://what-if.xkcd.com/6/
xkcd kicks ass, and this new addition just makes it kick even more ass.
True…but at the same time, how are you not at least very concerned?
I’m concerned.
It’s not as if there is no reason for concern. There certainly is. There’s no post season joy if there’s no CC. I’m as calm as anybody usually, but this is a concern.
This is off topic, but I’ll go for it anyway. My phone (Motorola Droid 2) completely shit the bed the other day. Like, people can’t hear me talk when I make phone calls kind of shit the bed. Verizon said they are sending me a LG Lightning as a stop-gap until my upgrade. I found it odd that I was getting a different model instead of a refurbished Droid 2. Which might be okay, since I hate my phone. Anyone have any experience or hear anything about the LG Lightning? It’s going to be my phone until my upgrade in April whether I like it or not.
Michael Kay?
Hmm…
Question:
Will we be praising SuperNova today, or wishing to reach the Novacaine after this game?
wait…the top of the first inning is over already? The game started like 6 minutes ago, no?
Good first inning for Nova…but he’s like AJ was last year. 5 good innings with one absolute disaster in the middle or at the end.
I dunno, I don’t have the same gut-churning sensation when Nova starts that I did when Burnett took the mound. Nova hasn’t been great of late, but he’s a better candidate to throw a decent game on any given day than A.J. was.
And yes, I realize I’m tempting the fates here…
A Golden Corral commercial just mentioned tilapia. I laughed.
Blast. Reply failure.
Had it been followed by a spot for Harry Potter DVDs we might have had to put you back together…
This home-plate umpire is a self-aggrandizing asshole. Hey dumb shit: No one cares about you, no one wants to pay attention to you, and no one wants to be distracted by your absurd bellowing.
Had it been followed by a spot for Harry Potter DVDs we might have had to put you back together…
why hitting grandy near head? that’s not cool.
Looked like an off speed that got away
Aaron Laffey has been better this year, but he’s never been a paragon of control. I don’t love how much our players have been beaned, but it’s not hard to think that legitimately was an accident, given the nature of the pitcher…
Oh those soft tossing lefties….
Wow! The wind must have taken that one.
Two hard hit balls given up by Nova. That fastball is still hovering over the middle.
Two hard hit balls given up by Nova. That fastball is still hovering over the middle.
Nova’s up and in the middle. Fuck
Luckily, the Jays have been de-clawed offensively
Did Rasmus get hurt yesterday? There is literally no reason he should be on the bench.
Day to day with right groin tightness
Reaggravated his groin injury
Heard he pulled something or had tightness – they took him out at end of game.
I wonder if the catchers ever say to this asshole ump, “Hey, motherfucker. Would you mind not screaming at the top of your lungs into my fucking ear?”
Cliff Lee has 2 wins, AJ Burnett has 14. Therefore AJ is 7 times better than Cliff.
This year, oh yes.
I have to say, I am glad that AJ is pitching well in Pittsburgh. I always felt bad that a guy like him with great stuff just couldn’t handle the pressure in NY.
As am I, I’m just upset he could never be good here. I met him once in Closter, really a nice guy.
It wasn’t the pressure, it was the short fences he could not handle. Too home run prone for a small ballpark.
He was actually significantly worse on the road last year. (although he did allow more HRs at home)
That may have been part of it, but he also just didn’t have the psychological makeup that would have allowed him to adjust, and as soon as he got behind batters or in games, he lost the plot. Having watched him pitch almost every game as a Yank, it was clear that he too easily lost his composure when things got tricky.
Without having to face Rasmus, Bautista, Arencibia, Lawrie and Lind, there is no excuse if Nova stumbles in this game.
Stewart’s offensive “prowess”.
Yeah, ok.
Wait Stewart put a charge into that ball?
Just slightly under it.
Fuck, really? Stewart hits a ball hard and nothing to show for it…
Wow that was a hell of an effort by Hechavaria (sp).
A Hech of a play?
icwudt.
YES!!!!
JOHN KNOWS ABOUT THE INTERNET!! ABORT THE MISSION! WE’RE IN A FULL ABORT!!!!
http://chzgifs.files.wordpress.....s-nope.gif
2d time around let’s pound Laffey
“I refuse.” -Yankee team
Another K for Swisher. I know I’m gonna get a lot of shit but I just don’t like him batting 2d.
David Cone disagrees
Who do you think should bat 2nd then? Grandy who strikes out even more?
Yeah, I mean what are the other options? Ichiro? No thanks. Swish in the two-hole is fine, given the current lineup options.
Yeah there’s really no one else
Chris Stewart
I just don’t like him period.
OT but Ayn Rand freak Paul Ryan has just been chosen as Mitt Romney’s VP candidate.
my god. They are the most vanilla tandem of all time.
George H.W. Bush and Dan Quayle?
Good luck with that, Mitt.
Obama 2012.
Together, we can live the dream.
For those who are interested in the election “horse race”, this columnist is truly outstanding. He used to be a sports statistical analyst, and then turned to elections in 2008.
http://fivethirtyeight.blogs.n.....e-of-ryan/
Nate Silver is one of my heroes. I may have a bigger crush on him (of the intellectual kind) than Russell Martin.
Can Silver take a pitch in the arm for the team???? I DON’T THINK SO!!!!!!!!!
Point taken. This is why I play the field.
Pair up Nate Silver’s fivethirtyeight blog with Realclearpolitics.com’s aggregation services and you’ll have all the political yumminess you’ll need.
Both offer interesting takes on electoral math and surveys… perfect for the stats-obsessed on non-game days.
It’s always a good sign when major news like that is announced at 1am on a Saturday.
Mitt can’t even shoot his own foot.
Giant Douche vs Turd Sandwich 2012
Haha nice reference.
Tell me it’s not true though. Mitt’s a giant douche, and as much as i consider myself a liberal, Obama is kind of a turd sandwich.
Obama’s not amazing or anything, but I like him about a thousand times better than Glove Romney.
That idiot can’t even go to London for the Olympics without fucking up. All he had to do was smile, wave, and shake a few hands. That was too much for him, apparently.
I agree 100%
Kay just said Nova’s locating the fastball and has control of the curve. What game am I watching then?
Remember Laffey shut down the Red Sox twice this year. So he can be effective.
4.98 FIP.
Canadian spellings are amazing.
“re” beats the hell out of “er”.
Are there stats for batters who take the most called 3rd strikes? Because I think Swish has got to be near the top of the list. His reactions to those calls do not endear him to the umpires, either.
This would be consistent with his patience and ability to run up the count. If you’re gonna be real patient, you’re gonna have more called third strikes. You can’t get one without the other.
Gotta be the Doc.
Nah, Halladay was 1995. That one I know.
Not sure on the trivia, Hentgen maybe?
Eh, tricky question.
There’s no way the trivia question answer is Roy Halladay, is there?
Oof.
And Doc was only 16 in 1993, so it’s not him.
Did that football player pull down Doug M.’s pants and reveal his bare naked ass?
I lost the plot there. Why did they show clips of high-school football?
They were talking about ARod’s football-throwing routine in the pre-game.
Those were clips of A-Rod playing high-school football?
He was apparently a pretty good QB back in the day. If his baseball skills erode too much, maybe the Jets would pick him up. Can’t be much worse than Sanchez and Tebow.
Don’t ever say that around my wife’s family. They are rabid Trojan fans and think Sanchez is gonna take the Jets to the Super Bowl. I just keep my mouth shut on this topic.
Hahaha. One of my good friends is a Jets fan, so I was forced to follow them last year. Sanchez was absolutely brutal to watch.
Combining Sanchez and Tebow, they now have two thirds of an NFL QB.
http://memegenerator.net/instance/24569367
Last couple years, the Jets have been better than the Giants at most positions in the field.
But Eli is so much better than Sanchez that the Giants have still had more success. Sanchez had a fantastic receiving/TE crew in 2010, better than the Giants in ’11, but Eli can make his receivers good.
Sanchez is freakin’ terrible.
As to the trivia: I forgot he was a Blue Jay
Laffey is lucky as shit.
So is Nova today
C’mon! RISPHIT!!!
Clue to the trivia answer: Dave Duncan
Grandy got a cookie. Cmon guys. RISP. Let’s go
BASEBALL. PLAYER.
yesssssssssssssss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! risphit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good slide
Nix!!!
Awesome slide by Tex, too!
Nix comes through again.
BASEBALL PLAYER
Anyone hear Sterling’s call?
You Cannot Stop Casey McGehee. You Can Only Hope to Contain Him.
MCGAHEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow. He murdered that ball.
Riddle, I assume you’re on the radio. What was Sterlings call for him?
“how do you like that, Casey At The Bat.” Sterling’s just getting lazy now.
That’s lame.
Srsly. He should let Susan do some of the home run calls.
Suzyn.
She was to busy getting off to Nix’s hit.
Your welcome for that image being burned into your skull.
I still feel dirty.
and then Kay stole it for good measure
Sterling’s call: Casey at the bat!
True Yankee™
A bomb. Nice to see the bench stepping up. Way to go
Casey at the Bat
Casey ya later
Laffey sure ain’t laffin’ now.
There’s the Aaron Laffey we know and love!
Chris Stewart has been raking lately.
Nova: SHUT DOWN INNING! Do it!
Oh, shit. Middlebrooks is out for the season.
Kevin “wrist” Youkilis?
Not surprised, that looked brutal last night.
Didn’t see it until just now, but yeah.
I’m sure it’s completely unrelated but, suicides in Boston just jumped to record highs. Numbers like this haven’t been seen since Sept 28 2011
Oof.
Legit sucks as news, even though Middlebrooks had regressed from his hot start. I guess this means Mauro Gomez can torch the Yankees again in a week.
Is there any doubt at all that Danny Valencia won’t have a 140 wRC+ the rest of the season? Every other piece of shit has worked out for them this year.
O/U: Nova gives back 3.5 runs this inning?
BEAR DOWN NOVA!
Welp there goes perfection.
Not gonna lie, I was thinking about it in the back of my head.
David Cone is such an awesome color guy.
He is hilarious. When he was playing for the Yanks in the late 90s, he lived in the same building as me. When I would run into him, I would just give a thumbs-up, and he would always do an exaggerated thumbs-up and make a funny face in response. He must have moved out before the perfect game, though, because I never saw him the ’99 season.
Cone just admitted to tax evasion????
wait, what?
He didn’t pay taxes on the bonus check he got when he was drafted, apparently.
Well, the IRS eventually did his tax payments for him.
I couldn’t tell if he was saying it was accidental. Very strange.
I think he was saying he was so clueless he didn’t know what he was supposed to do in terms of income averaging between years.
That curveball was nasty.
Remember when Chris Stewart was supposed to be good at throwing out runners? lol
How did nobody notice that was a balk.
Can some one explain to me what’s going on?
Apparently on the pitch Davis stole, they called a balk.
So that strike doesn’t count and neither does the stolen base.
Balk calls are weird.
WTF
Wtf Nova…do you know the definition of a ‘Shutdown inning?’
Hey Nova throw your fastball right down the middle more.
To their only legit hitter. He’s lucky that wasn’t more.
No lead is Nova-proof, I guess.
The 5-0 lead against Baltimore sure as hell wasn’t.
Nova…time and a place for a purpose pitch. This was not it.
Yep. And now one of ours is getting plunked because Nova doesn’t think sometimes.
Toronto just came from Tampa where their only positive feeling from a 2-8 road trip was Janssen plunking Matt Joyce in retaliation.
here we go
That wasn’t a purpose pitch. He was trying to go inside and missed.
It was on an 0-2 count. Toronto can’t be that stupid.
why would nova drill him
C’mon, Nova. Get a hold of yourself.
Nova has lost the damn strike zone.
That was a lucky one.
3-2 curve, nice. One more let’s go
Crisis averted.
Phew.
Wow…we still have the lead. Good job Nova.
I remember liking SkyDome at one point. I can’t really remember why, because now I find it almost impossible to watch a game played there since I can never pick up the ball against the infield.
Nova gets out of it…but that’s because we’re in Toronto. Can’t see him pitching well against good teams.
By the way, the Casey at the Bat stuff made me dig this old gem up, courtesy of Mr. Kabak:
http://riveraveblues.com/2009/.....rse-17778/
Laffey reminds me of Warren from Empire Records.
Cone should really spend more time at RAB instead of PSA
Cone just referenced Pinstripe Alley. Does that make you jealous Mike?
Guys, I’m going to have to kill myself. John and Suzyn and I agree on something. I cannot live in a world like that. Greg, I leave you my collection of music, we probably share likes. jjyank I leave you my blog, please continue the humor I have started there. Robinson Tilapia, I leave to you my external full of every episode of Doctor Who ever. I’m sure your wife will enjoy it. Erica, I leave to you my signed Poison poster that my older cousin gave me.
They agree that the wave is basically the worst thing ever.
Tilapia, don’t take it. Not every episode of Doctor Who has been recovered.
They’re still finding some, which is pretty awesome!
Looking forward to see what they’re doing with The Reign of Terror later this year. I think they’re doing the missing episodes with animation, like they did with The Invasion.
Packerrrrrrrrrr!
The ones that the tape weren’t recovered, they have the voice recordings, it’s the funniest thing.
Good point.
Just had the same thought myself. Here’s a bit of wiggle room for you: They also said that the only thing worse is root canal.
You can disagree with them on that — especially if you’ve ever had your finger caught in a car door.
There is always a way out…
P.S. At least when you have that thought, you don’t illustrate it with a reference to 1950s-era musicals… do you?
Sweet, I think I was the winner in this one.
Rest in peace.
Cano works epic walk, Jones and Granderson swing at first pitch. lol
granderson turns into a pumpkin after the 3rd inning of virtually every game.
No more leadoff runners!
Nice slider!
His slider and curve have been haunting the Jays all day
Loud out.
Nova has been fortunate today.
His slider and curveball have been great. Fastball not so much.
Yeah, his breaking stuff has been nasty today. Fastball command is definitely off though.
Good thing he’s 1.facing a weak team 2. His breaking stuff has been good enough to mask the lack of FB control.
Yeah. I’m hoping he can build off this though. Nova is a pretty important piece to this franchise with the $189 mil budget, either as a trade chip for a bat or a cost controlled member of the rotation.
I’ve said it a bunch of times, but I’ll say it again if the Yankees want to be under 189 and successful they need at least 2 out of the 3 of Banuelos, Pineda, and Nova to preform as mid to front end rotation type guys.
Right. Either that, or Nova be traded for a cheap bat to replace Swisher or Granderson. But either way, he is a pretty crucial part to the budget plan.
Really? I’ve only been half watching, but his BABIP is 3/11, near .300. I saw that last hard hit ball get caught, but that’s about it.
Casey Mcgehee=beast
Nice McGehee! Good to have him step up with lefties on the mound and Chavez needing a break.
POTG?
Unless the game gets crazy, I’d say so.
Maybe Nova if he keeps striking people out. 7 K’s in 5 so far.
Stewart angry!
Eww. Who wants to watch people kiss in slo-mo like that?????
Fifty shades of Cone lol
BTW I’m going to claim ignorance here. Can someone tell me in one or two lines what Fifty Shades of Grey is about? I went to look it up and there was a Wikipedia entry that was too long for me to even bother reading.
Started as Twilight Fan Fiction, some how turned into a few hundred pages of BDSM porn between a young woman and older man. Women love it cause it makes them feel dirty.
….wut?
I will stay far, far away from that.
I’m not even kidding. Also the author has a weird relationship w/ the word there. I’ve read pieces on tumblr, people posting it to make fun of, and she uses the word there way to much in describing sex acts. It comes off as very creepy.
How similar is it to when Mr. Garrison (or I think he was Mrs. Garrison at the time, can’t remember) quit teaching so he/she could start a career as a graphic sex novelist?
She uses ‘there’ just as often as Garrison uses the word ‘penis’ and he’s Mr. Garrison at the time, that’s when he realizes he’s actually gay. Before he becomes a woman.
Good call. It’s been awhile since I saw that episode.
I’m confused about the “there” thing, can you give me an example? I’m afraid of what google might bring me if I try to find out for myself.
I can’t find any excerpts but I’m not looking that hard.
Can’t blame you for that.
Ahh, okay, thanks. Explains how I’ve been able to ignore it. I’m usually up on most pop cultural references, even I think in which I have no interest, but this one is too far out for me.
Now I am surprised Cone has even heard of it!
Gross
Older man? The guy’s 27. Granted, she’s 22-ish but, Christ (spoken by a guy well past 27).
What it’s mainly about, aside from the S&M, is a girl who somehow not only stays a virgin till she’s graduated from college, but also somehow never owns a computer till then. And, oh yeah: every single orgasm she gets from this guy is catacylysmic/earth-moving. Major chick fantasy.
I don’t think your details make it any less…off putting is the word I’m going to use.
You’re not seriously implying that you can’t stay a virgin up until after college? Because I find that kind of insulting.
I think he’s implying that it would be difficult to stay a virgin through college, as well as not have access to a computer through college. The first one is difficult, especially with social and peer pressure, but the second one is just about impossible. Unless the book is based in like the mid-late 90s.
I’ll believe it’s easier to make it through college and be a virgin than not have access to a computer through college.
I guess it depends where you went to school. I went to a school that was consistently a top-20 party school, so you were NOT staying a virgin
I took care of that in high school anyway, though.
Reasons I want to go away to school after I finish my associates:
1. New people
2. Smoke easier
3. Easy Pootang
Yes I’m a horrible person.
No, you’re just in your early twenties
As far as #2 goes, not many places better for that than UVM. 4/20 there was just a massive party everywhere. The school even cancels classes for the day because they know everyone will just skip anyway. God damn it I miss college.
Wait, Seriously? They cancel class on 4/20? You’re kidding right?
Nope. They called it an in service day or some bullshit. My freshman year they didn’t do that, but everyone skipped anyway. The next year, and from then on, they had some in service day every year on 4/20. It was awesome. Everyone smoking out in the open all over campus.
If you’ve never been, you gotta visit Burlington. Such an awesome place, and you’d probably fit in well there.
All right then, that’s cool. Carry on with your scheduled mocking of these travesties.
No, the REALLY amazing thing is that she has her first wet dream in college. And she reacts to the wet dream in the same way a pre-teen reacts about getting their first period. Not only that, the dream has to do with Christian grey dressed in jeans, shirtless, with cowboy boots on top of a horse or some shit like that. It’s hilarious.
Please stop. Please..my ability to keep my lunch down is beginning to fail.
imagine a book about baseball by someone who had never seen a game.
Those books make a mockery of literature.
The two greatest lines of all time:
From the first book:
“…I had my very own Christian Grey-flavored popsicle!”
-Ana, the main character, referring to love interest Christian Grey’s penis
From the sequel Fifty Shades Darker:
“…Do you want a regular vanilla relationship with no kinky fuckery at all?”
My mouth drops open. “Kinky fuckery?” I squeak.
“Kinky fuckery.”
These lines actually appeared in the books.
I shit you not.
That is all.
Ugh. I cannot believe my sister, mother, and other women in my life who I respect are reading this trash.
Thanks…err, I think.
I’m hoping you Google’d that and it’s not retyped from your personal editions. Not that I have an issue with anyone in to whatever, but that’s scary shit.
I found a website that goes through each chapter of the books and reviews them. I was laughing so hard I nearly choked. The main character actually talks to her “subconscious” and “inner goddess”, portrayed as humans who apparently live in Ana’s mind or something.
She reacts bizarrely to extremely normal things people say. These are paraphrased quotes, but they’re not exaggerations.
“Hello Ana, nice to see you today.”
Ana!
“Please Ana, have some food.”
Food!
These books are amazing in their own special way.
Sounds like there is a whole another segment out there that enjoys making fun of it.
Has anyone seen the author interviewed? Is she (I’m guessing it’s a she) as weird as her writings?
Okay, I need to leave this part of the thread. It’s the 8th inning and I’ve learned way too much about this!
RISPHIT FOR THE CAPTAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Watching Jeter defy age has been awesome.
Nice, Derek.
Jeter racks up multi-hit games
When he’s hot, he’ll do that. But then when he goes cold, he doesn’t even get the ball in the air like he used to. Btw, Derek’s at 150 hits for the season…there’s a chance he finishes with >200 on the season.
Easily. He might get 210 if we face enough lefties.
It’s so awesome to see Jeter leading the AL in hits.
I want he and Cano to finish 1 and 2
The league MVP, Cabrera, will be a challenge.
/Leyland’d
It really is. For people my age, Jeter is like a baseball god. The face of the franchise, the model of consistency. I love that he’s not going down without a fight against Father Time.
Jeter was never even my favorite player (that was Bernie for me, and now Cano) but there’s no denying how awesome a season for a 38 year old shortstop this is.
yeah, that pretty much sums up the outlook of Jeter for the 18-28 demographic I think.
Jeter’s been kinda ridiculously overrated for his entire career. I like him and everything, but he’s not an all-time great player like YES would have you believe.
And to think we get to play these guys even more in this second half
Loup is a cool last name.
Aaron Loup is a cool name overall.
Nova hates Russ, news at 11.
Stewart named Nova’s double-super-secret-not personal-but personal catcher.
The booth hates Russ.
Encarnacion should get used to that.
FIGHT!
Stupid warnings. How on earth does that seem intentional?
No idea. Why would he go after Escobar, of all people, with a runner already on base?
Yeah we’re getting beaned.
Well then someone’s getting thrown out because Joyce just issued warnings.
I just hope they don’t hit Cano, Grandy, or Teix.
What the hell, Joyce?
One thing I’ve always loved about Nova: he’s not afraid to come inside/hit guys. I still remember his first game, drilling Bautista. One of my favorite memories of him.
They just showed it. It was, indeed, awesome!
That was when he threw at him.
stepping to the kid with the bat in your hand. why so angry, joey?
That was my favorite part of it, Joey goes towards him, bat in hand and you can see Nova mouthing “You wanna go, Let’s fucking go!”
Srsly, though, Escobar wants to crowd the plate, he’s gonna get hit.
Whoa, ballsy move by Tex there.
Lol, I still get flashbacks of Giambi trying to throw to second when I see a pinstriped first baseman throwing to second.
Nice play!
Nova’s pitching well because I dropped him from my fantasy team after his last start. You’re welcome everyone.
You better pick up J.A. Happ before tomorrow.
Nova was OK today but would have got rocked by a better team. His fastball was flat and he still has control problems.
Andruw Jones has had one good weekend in Fenway. That’s it
It’s true. Although that WAS a great weekend. I don’t want him back next year though.
I wanted to pick up Scott Hairston from the Mets, but the Mets are delusional when it comes to his value.
“but the Mets are delusional
when it comes to his value.”Fixed.
sox are stupid if they don’t pick him up.
http://www.baseball-reference......g_gamelogs
I don’t get what you are trying to tell me with this, but I would still prefer Hairston
I don’t get what you are trying to tell me with this, but I would still prefer Hairston
I’d prefer Matt Kemp.
Nice job.
Were you agreeing or disagreeing with him?
Actually, I kind of take it back about Joyce. Kay (I think it was him) just made the point that it takes away the Jays’ ability to retaliate. So while Nova’s pitches weren’t intentional, there was a good chance the Jays were retaliating if he didn’t issue a warning. It probably actually helps the Yankees.
C’mon, Nova!!!
GRAND CATCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why couldn’t you do that against Ciriaco?
fuck I was just thinking that too
Nova’s done, right?
No way, he’s only at 88 pitches.
Nah, he’s got at least another inning left.
one more then done
Nova’s got a chance for the CG. If he gives up another run though get MFIKY up for a nice 3 run save.
I don’t want him to face Escobar again.
I do to see if he can be 3-3 on drilling him =P
I would love to see him drill him again, if it didn’t matter to the game.
I didn’t know the upper deck of SkyDome was open for Jays games anymore.
But there are people up there.
I think it’s only open for Yankees, Red Sox, Opening Day and the like.
Good choice to not pinch hit Chavez. Him on this turf could be deadly
Mound
They ran out of topics.
Robertson again?
Robbie time
lol ten straight breaking pitches.
And he struck him out with the fastball. Good tactics
You guys are being to quick on the trigger w/ Nova. He’s got a decent lead.
OK but he had a decent lead his last two outings too
He had a lot longer to blow that lead though, he has a relatively short leash here, it’s not like it’s the 5th inning and he’s got half the game to give it back. It’s the bottom of the 8th. I think Joe pulled him a batter early even, only because it’s not really Nova’s fault McGehee didn’t make that play.
Don’t boo the kid, you jagoff Jays fans!
94 right down the middle. Nova got lucky
Naw. He knew Gose was looking curveball and it was up.
Nova still missed with his location.
He’s been getting good breaks all game, both on pitches and batted balls.
yep
I thought he was good actually. You don’t get 10 K’s on luck alone.
Agreed. He’s gotten lucky on some pitches, but Nova pitched pretty damn well today. His command wasn’t great with the fastball, but not enough people are giving him credit for how many silly swings he got with his slider and curveball.
He was definitely good, but he also got some breaks on missed pitches and batted balls. Not a complaint at all, just an observation.
What in the world are these Jays thinking?
Gose last night, Davis today. Stealing third down by 3-4 runs?
God the YES booth loves Chris Stewart.
The throw beat Davis. And McGehee.
What a crap tag by McGaheay.
How is it good for your arm to throw nothing but breaking pitches?
Fuck you Mcgehee.
And now a crap fielding play by McGeehay.
Arod makes that play.
yeah but ARoid also whiffs in the 4th with two on
stuart?
Ethel?
GFY
McGehee not a good fielding 3rd baseman in his career. A .943 fielding percentage in 5 seasons at 3rd base.
Fielding percentage is a dumb stat.
51 career errors at 3rd base. His career Defensive WAR is -1.7
WAR is a good stat. McGhee is shit at 3d
I agree. But not because of fielding percentage.
OK, this Just For Men ad with the baby is fucking horrifying. I feel like I need to wipe my brain clean after watching it.
Hahaha, what’s really weird is that he’s got a date. I’m pretty sure that’s illegal, like everywhere.
#cosign.
and let’s not propagate the dbag goatee. enough already.
I have a goatee, but as far as I can tell, it has not propagated.
i’m going to need you to shave.
Escobar was afraid to come up to bat again!
AND DP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
First ballot?
No further discussion on that, please.
Who?
The YES booth is babbling about Omar Vizquel.
Oh. Stepped out for that second to grab a coffee.
I’ll respectively disagree with Kramerica. Good player who played a long time. Not a HOFer to me.
I read his post as “even if he’s a HOF’r there’s no way he’s a first ballot guy” and they should stop with the nonsense.
I can see arguing he’s a marginal HOF’r, but first ballot typically denotes a no doubter.
Enough already about Vizquel.
Did Swisher actually just go to fist bump the catcher after he struck out?? What the fuck was he doing there?
Did he swing the bat? Maybe he thought he clipped him with the backswing.
Yeah, he swung. Maybe that was it.
Another K for Nicky
MFIKY!
Jones at his peak was a better defender than Ichiro. Ichiro today is better than Jones, even though Ichiro is older.
Jones at his peak was probably one of the best in history.
Other than the fact he peaked at an early age, is there a good reason why Andruw Jones isn’t a Hall of Famer?
here’s where someone mentions steroids.
END IT NOW!!!!!!
Un. Tuck.
Great win, boys.
Untuck and the Yankees are on a roll.
AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Great pitching by Nova and the pen today!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nice easy game, although I will have apply bleach directly to my brain after the 50 Shades of Grey discussion.
You still feel dirty afterwards.
What is 50 Shades of Gray?
Nova with a good game?
OMG!!!11!!! ACE OF OUR STAFF!!@!#!~~~ CAN”T SEND HIM DOWN NOWWWW!!!~~!!
