The Yankees have a nice little three-game winning streak going, and they’ve won five of their last eight games overall. It doesn’t feel like it though, it’ll take more than a nice eight-game stretch to wash away the stench of those three awful weeks starting out in Oakland. New York has a chance to win their first three-game series in Toronto in more than three years this afternoon, and here’s the lineup Joe Girardi is running out there…

Awfully pessimistic post. Three game winning streak! Toronto is a mess. No reason not to be optimistic.
Well Yankees just got out of a very rough stretch, they lost half their lead in the division.
Yanks beat their best pitcher last night. It should get better from here….
He’s their best pitcher in theory. But Romero’s been terrible this year.
That being said, they really should tee off of Laffey.
If the Yankees lose, it will be because Nova stunk. No good reason not to win here.

Why is everybody on edge about CC excessively? Mild elbow soreness is much better than full on pain.

I’m not panicked, but I don’t take much stock in the team saying that soreness is all it is. They have no reason not to downplay it, so I won’t draw conclusions from it. I am very worried though.
If they felt worse about it and hiding it, they would have sent him ahead to New York and would have gotten an MRI on it.
True. I just feel like the Yankees are one more big injury away before I start to really worry about the team in general, so I worry about this more because of the context.

This is off topic, but I’ll go for it anyway. My phone (Motorola Droid 2) completely shit the bed the other day. Like, people can’t hear me talk when I make phone calls kind of shit the bed. Verizon said they are sending me a LG Lightning as a stop-gap until my upgrade. I found it odd that I was getting a different model instead of a refurbished Droid 2. Which might be okay, since I hate my phone. Anyone have any experience or hear anything about the LG Lightning? It’s going to be my phone until my upgrade in April whether I like it or not.

Good first inning for Nova…but he’s like AJ was last year. 5 good innings with one absolute disaster in the middle or at the end.
I dunno, I don’t have the same gut-churning sensation when Nova starts that I did when Burnett took the mound. Nova hasn’t been great of late, but he’s a better candidate to throw a decent game on any given day than A.J. was.

Aaron Laffey has been better this year, but he’s never been a paragon of control. I don’t love how much our players have been beaned, but it’s not hard to think that legitimately was an accident, given the nature of the pitcher…

I have to say, I am glad that AJ is pitching well in Pittsburgh. I always felt bad that a guy like him with great stuff just couldn’t handle the pressure in NY.
As am I, I’m just upset he could never be good here. I met him once in Closter, really a nice guy.
It wasn’t the pressure, it was the short fences he could not handle. Too home run prone for a small ballpark.
He was actually significantly worse on the road last year. (although he did allow more HRs at home)
That may have been part of it, but he also just didn’t have the psychological makeup that would have allowed him to adjust, and as soon as he got behind batters or in games, he lost the plot. Having watched him pitch almost every game as a Yank, it was clear that he too easily lost his composure when things got tricky.
Without having to face Rasmus, Bautista, Arencibia, Lawrie and Lind, there is no excuse if Nova stumbles in this game.

But Eli is so much better than Sanchez that the Giants have still had more success. Sanchez had a fantastic receiving/TE crew in 2010, better than the Giants in ’11, but Eli can make his receivers good.

He is hilarious. When he was playing for the Yanks in the late 90s, he lived in the same building as me. When I would run into him, I would just give a thumbs-up, and he would always do an exaggerated thumbs-up and make a funny face in response. He must have moved out before the perfect game, though, because I never saw him the ’99 season.

I think he’s implying that it would be difficult to stay a virgin through college, as well as not have access to a computer through college. The first one is difficult, especially with social and peer pressure, but the second one is just about impossible. Unless the book is based in like the mid-late 90s.

As far as #2 goes, not many places better for that than UVM. 4/20 there was just a massive party everywhere. The school even cancels classes for the day because they know everyone will just skip anyway. God damn it I miss college.

Nope. They called it an in service day or some bullshit. My freshman year they didn’t do that, but everyone skipped anyway. The next year, and from then on, they had some in service day every year on 4/20. It was awesome. Everyone smoking out in the open all over campus.

I found a website that goes through each chapter of the books and reviews them. I was laughing so hard I nearly choked. The main character actually talks to her “subconscious” and “inner goddess”, portrayed as humans who apparently live in Ana’s mind or something.
She reacts bizarrely to extremely normal things people say. These are paraphrased quotes, but they’re not exaggerations.

It really is. For people my age, Jeter is like a baseball god. The face of the franchise, the model of consistency. I love that he’s not going down without a fight against Father Time.
Jeter was never even my favorite player (that was Bernie for me, and now Cano) but there’s no denying how awesome a season for a 38 year old shortstop this is.

Actually, I kind of take it back about Joyce. Kay (I think it was him) just made the point that it takes away the Jays’ ability to retaliate. So while Nova’s pitches weren’t intentional, there was a good chance the Jays were retaliating if he didn’t issue a warning. It probably actually helps the Yankees.

Agreed. He’s gotten lucky on some pitches, but Nova pitched pretty damn well today. His command wasn’t great with the fastball, but not enough people are giving him credit for how many silly swings he got with his slider and curveball.
He was definitely good, but he also got some breaks on missed pitches and batted balls. Not a complaint at all, just an observation.
