The Yankees are scuffling in the worst way right now, but they’re getting a bit of a boost this afternoon as Alex Rodriguez returns to the lineup after 36 games on the DL with a broken bone in his hand. They went 18-18 in those 36 games, though obviously there’s a lot more contributing to that than A-Rod being out of the lineup. The Bombers have scored just 45 runs in their last 14 games (3.2 per game), so every little bit helps. Getting even a rusty Alex back into the cleanup spot adds some much needed depth and left/right balance to the lineup. Here’s the starting nine…
SS Derek Jeter
1B Nick Swisher
2B Robinson Cano
DH Alex Rodriguez
3B Eric Chavez
LF Raul Ibanez
C Russell Martin
RF Ichiro Suzuki
CF Chris Dickerson
LHP CC Sabathia
For those of you who care about such things, Brian Cashman is here in Tampa with the team and so am I. Hooray original reporting. Anyway, happy Labor Day everyone. This afternoon’s game starts a little after 1pm ET and can be seen on YES locally and MLB Network nationally. Enjoy.
