The Yankees took care of business this afternoon and won the first game of today’s doubleheader behind the returning Andy Pettitte, and now they’ll try to win Game Two behind shortstop Derek Jeter. The Cap’n will be playing the field for the first time in exactly a week, since he came down hard on his left ankle running out a ground ball and aggravated the bone bruise he’s been nursing for a few weeks. Here’s the starting nine…

SS Derek Jeter
RF Nick Swisher
DH Robinson Cano
3B Alex Rodriguez
CF Curtis Granderson
2B Jayson Nix
1B Casey McGehee
LF Ichiro Suzuki
Chris Stewart

RHP David Phelps

Game Two of today’s doubleheader is scheduled to start a little after 7pm ET and can be seen on My9. Enjoy.

  • Get Phelps Up

I’m hoping we get to see a picture of Alex in the sidebar when all is said and done tonight.

    • jjyank

      +10000

  • Havok9120

    I’m feeling confident.

This probably means we’re doomed, but I’m sticking with it.

    • RetroRob

I am too, but I dislike double headers. They seem to end up being split more often than not, and I remember some study on this that pretty showed they were split more often than they should be based on team records.

      • Laz

Well the lineup that the yankees put forward sucks. Day lineup was fine, but mcgehee, nix, and stewart….

  • J.R.

You really have to hope that Phelps can give 6 or 7 IP, otherwise its Freddy time.

  • EDDARD

Girardi used every reliever and their brother in the first game so it’s up to Big Game Dave Phelps to give us another big game just as he did in Boston. A lot of pressure on the kid but he didn’t get the name Big Game Dave Phelps for nothing.

    • jjyank

      Yes he did.

      • Bryan__fromNZ

jjyank, how do you like Phelps’ performance tonight? Big enough? Your response to eddard earlier today was uncalled for, get a life.

    • Laz

At least they have the depth. It is nice that Pettitte is healthy and they have 7 starters now.

  • http://RIVERAVEBLUES JOHN DESANTIS

Great to not see washed up Raul or Andrew in tonights line-up

    • EDDARD

Agreed. Ichiro had 2 hits and the game saving catch in the first game. Andruw hasn’t done that much in 3 months. Raul either. Ichiro should be our everyday left fielder once Teix returns.

      • EDDARD

Correction: Ichiro had 3 hits! His avg is up to .272. Andruw is hitting a robust .197 , Ibanez a healthy .222

    • Laz

Nix and stewart are any better?

  • Pat D

    OMG, a Casey McGehee sighting.

Also, I’m really thinking of murdering my family right now, so someone talk me out of it.

    • The Real Greg

Why are you feeling that way?

      • Pat D

I honestly don’t know. I’m annoyed and angry, at what I don’t know.

Right now they are annoying me so my aggression is being unleashed on them. But I have to hold back because my 14-month old niece is here today so I can’t use bad language or tone of voice around her.

        • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Look at it this way dude, unless you wanna commit infanticide or raise your niece yourself, it’s not worth it.

          • Pat D

No I don’t want to do any of that. And I don’t really want to kill my family.

I want to figure out why I’m so angry all of a sudden.

            • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

I just blame my SAD or depression when ever I get sudden bursts of rage, usually people buy it.

              • Joe

I have that seasonal feeling thing too. The dark months make me feel like crap when I’m not with my friends or family. I suffer from anxiety, but I calmed it down.

I also have some OCD. I repeat things way too much.

  • The Real Greg

I know Mike Trout has been more valuable, but if Miggy wins the Triple Crown, you gotta give it to him.

    • Hummingbird S.

I have to agree (amazing!). You have to give it to Miggy, especially considering how much of Trout’s value is tied to his D and how uncertain D metrics are.

  • Havok9120

That was some interesting camera work on that flyball.

  • Dan in Athens

Any idea what channel has the Yankee feed on DirecTV? I’m only getting the Jays feed on 725

  • Hummingbird S.

that’s some nice movement on the 2-seamer

  • Havok9120

Ooof. Lets hope they don’t start squaring those up any better.

  • Joba Dobba Doo

Why isn’t Hughes pitching? Wasn’t he scheduled to go against Romero tonight?

    • jjyank

He would have been, but he was pushed back. Yanks wanted to line up better starters against the A’s.

  • Joba Dobba Doo

Why isn’t Hughes pitching? Wasn’t he scheduled to go against Romero tonight?

    • EDDARD

They moved the rest of the starters back a day due to the rainout. It was either have the fill in starter(Phelps) pitch vs the depleted Jays or vs the playoff bound As.

  • Chilango

Who’s the long man tonight? Freddy?

    • Havok9120

Unless you want to use Warren, yes.

  • RetroRob

Two of those flyball outs went much further than I thought. Ball is either carrying, or the pitches caught too much of the bats.

  • Havok9120

You guys who were playing the drinking game during the day game:

They just made another mention of Alverez settling in after the 1st.

    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

      SRING!!!!

…wait I mean drink. I swear to drunk I’m not god.

      • jjyank

Like I mentioned in the day game thread, I’m not doing that again. Unless the Yankees stop scoring runs. Then I’ll take one for the team.

      • Havok9120

My point exactly. I’d already started the day off before the first game. Then the drinking game just made it that much better.

  • RetroRob

Odds against Jeter getting another 200-hit season?

It goes against my instincts and sabermetric leanings, but I say he does it again.

    • Havok9120

Yeah, I’m not willing to bet against another one at this point. I’d say the odds are against it, but I still think it’ll happen.

      • jjyank

Of course. Odds are most certainly against it, but Jeter might just the be legendary-type player that we tell our kids about that can buck the trend.

    • http://twitter.com/Mikhel Mikhel

As long as his BAbip remains the same (HIGH BAbip, similar to what Ichiro did in his prime and what AJax does), there is a good chance he at least gets 186-190 in any of the next two seasons.

      • RetroRob

He’s always had a high BABIP for his career. It’s a function of hitting lots of line drives to the opposite field, and that other trait he has of hitting weak ground balls, many of which end up hits. The only time his BABIP sunk was from 2010 to mid-2011.

The odds are against it due to his age. Yet he’s an outlier, so hard to bet against him at the moment. He is not going to be taken out of the lead-off spot for now and he’s durable, so he might do it again.

  • Dan in Athens

Seriously, can someone give me the Directv channel carrying the home Yankee feed?

    • jjyank

Sorry bro. I have Comcast and watching MLB.TV out of market. Wish I could help.

    • Pat D

There might not be. When I checked earlier today, I only saw it listed on the channel you already mentioned.

      • Dan in Athens

DirecTV has been inflitrated by Canadians and now they are retaliating for the War of 1812. I always knew the truce was a ruse and we couldn’t trust them.

        • Havok9120

          Bastards.

They and their round bacon must be brought to justice.

          • Pat D

It’s just spam in disguise. Or pork roll.

            • Dan in Athens

I’m planning on retaliating by cutting into Hockey Night in Canada and showing Billy Mays commercials on an endless loop.

              • Pat D

But what if there’s no hockey this year?

                • Dan in Athens

That should punish them enough, I guess. Or I’ll wait until next year. I’m pretty petty.

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Did Andruw teach Alex to swing at a change like that?

  • Need Pitching & Hitting

Arod having a great day so far.

    • The Real Greg

He drove in a run in the first game so yes he is.

      • Need Pitching & Hitting

6 outs in 4 PA is not a great day, or even a good day, or even a decent day. It’s horrible.

        • The Real Greg

He had an RBI. That’s what he’s payed to do. Drive in runs.

          • Need Pitching & Hitting

He hit a ground ball with runners on second and third. He’s getting paid to do a lot more than that. As is everyone else. But you already know that. An RBI ground out doesn’t come close to cancelling out 6 outs in 4 PA’s.

        • The Real Greg

He had an RBI. That’s what he’s payed to do. Drive in runs.

  • The Real Greg

Damn their SS was quick to release.

ARod got in trouble swinging at 2 changeups.

  • IkeMaxisa

If both miss the playoffs Jeter should be in the conversation

    • IkeMaxisa

If both Trout and Cabrera miss the playoffs, Jeter should be in the MVP conversation that is

      • Havok9120

Well, if both miss the playoff, Jeter WILL be in the conversation.

I don’t think he should be, but he will be.

        • IkeMaxisa

He’s leading the league in hits by a long way and has been pretty much the only constant in a playoff lineup.

  • CG

Can anyone tell me what channel this is on? I have comcast, YES says its on, but it isnt.

    • The Real Greg

      My9

  • Pat D

That is the dumbest question I’ve ever seen.

    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

What question is that? Dumbest I’ve ever come across was a question a girl asked during junior year history class *While pointing at a map of Great Britain* “If that’s Great Britain where is England, and where are the colonies?!” Before anybody asks, no. she wasn’t kidding.

      • Pat D

Did she go on to become that one beauty contestant who rambled about maps?

The question was “Which of these Springsteen songs best sums up the 2012 Yankees season?”

        • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Nope, she’s currently working with small children. I wouldn’t call her a “teacher” because how much “teaching” actually gets done at a preschool, I look at her as a girl who babysits a lot of children at once.

          • Pat D

I’m starting to be concerned that she even has that kind of job.

            • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Why? She’s working with her intellectual peers.

              • Pat D

And that’s the problem. She needs to show a tad more aptitude than that. Otherwise those kids are already well on their way to becoming just like her.

That kind of thing will lead to things related to politics that I won’t mention because I’m not opening Pandora’s box anymore.

                • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Meh, I feel toddlers to young children learn very independently. They just need to be watched to make sure that they aren’t putting their heads places they cant fit.

        • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Btw…that seriously is a terrible question. That’s almost like what animal best describes you? The one time I was asked that I responded with “Human, I’m a human.”

          • Pat D

At this point in my life, I think I’d answer “porcupine.”

            • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

I’d still answer human, because that’s still the only animal I’ve ever been.

              • Pat D

I’m going with the whole “prick” connection. Also, the whole “leave me the fuck alone” vibe.

            • jjyank

              I’m a fucking Catamount.

              • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

No, JJ, you’re not a catamount you are a person.

      • jjyank

Me and a few classmates once convinced a girl in our high school Spanish class that Mexico was sinking into the ocean. She was devastated.

        • Pat D

Both of you stop. You’re going to make my head explode. I can’t handle the stupidity.

          • jjyank

I feel ya Pat. I know you worked in customer service too. People really are largely stupid.

            • derer

We need stupid people, who would work in customer service. All those idiots who have psychology or political science majors need jobs too.

              • jjyank

Oh fuck you. If you had an inkling of what I am in the process of, you would kiss my feet.

                • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

The second I saw that I knew it would ruffle some feathers.

                  • jjyank

Because derer up there is an asshole.

                    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

                      agreed. Certified Douche.

              • Pat D

No, the stupid people are the people who have a problem with their cell phone, so they call customer service from their cell phone.

If you’re implying that people who do customer service are stupid, I can only assume that you never have, and that you probably should to learn how wrong you are.

                • Dan in Athens

Dude, without customer service, I couldn’t use my cell phone, computer or Directv. I still probably only use 10 percent of my capabilities on all three.

          • RetroRob

When I was in college I worked in a shipping area where we had to sort mail. The guy working with me had a letter from Nebraska and wanted to know if Nebraska was located in Europe. I thought he was kidding, but he wasn’t so I told him it was. He then sorted it for international. I still wonder if that letter ever made it to its right location.

            • Pat D

That reminds me of a joke from The Naked Gun 2 1/2.

Frank Drebin said, “You’re part of a dying breed, Hapsburg, like people who can name all 50 states!”

I think that movie came out in like 1992 or so, and that was before reality TV, so……yea.

              • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Same girl as the one with Great Britain once asked if that’s “Are-Kansas” where’s Arkansas?

                • Pat D

Did you ever see that scene in Scanners where that dude’s head blew up?

                  I’m close to that point.

                  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Haha, relax man. I learned a long time ago, there is stupid in this world. There is more stupid than you can even begin to fathom. All you can do as somebody who isn’t stupid is avoid the stupid people.

                    • Pat D

Yea, but with this being the election season, the stupid seems to be flying harder, faster and more often.

I think that’s what’s getting me so angry. Every day it’s some new story that exasperates me to the point of having a mental breakdown.

                    • jjyank

You know I sit in front of CNN all day. I can at least be thankful that the two other people I sit there with are like minded. I can’t wait until it’s all over to be honest.

                    • Pat D

                      Same here.

I wonder if Al Gore regrets his invention.

              • RetroRob

True story. I briefly worked with the guy who basically wrote that speech for Al Gore. It was funny to hear him tell how the whole thing got bastaradized by the media and he never said it, but it was a good story.

And, no, before anyone asks. It was not the guy who was sorting mail with yeas earlier!

  • teddy

cano has been dreadful against leftys this year, why is he hitting 3rd or should had him bunt

  • RetroRob

Lets go, Phelps. You need to throw strikes. You are not a power pitcher.

  • The Real Greg

The ump is squeezing Phelps a bit

    • Matt

No, he’s not. If anything, he’s being generous on the two-seamers that are just off the corner.

      • The Real Greg

Inside he’s been close. Not on that last pitch.

        • Matt

But those pitches are not strikes. The guy has a tight zone, but he’s not squeezing Phelps. It’s going both ways.

    • Hummingbird S.

not even close. Please watch the game.

      • The Real Greg

I am. They just mentioned the umps on the broadcast.

        • Hummingbird S.

yup, they mentioned borderline calls right after the ump gave Phelps a strike on a borderline pitch.

          • The Real Greg

No he didn’t give him that strike. Kay mentioned that Barksdale was giving the pitchers that pitch in the first game.

        • Matt

They are guessing location based on the naked eye plus the camera angle they have. Just because it is one source of information, it does not mean that it’s credible in that context.

          • Matt

            Sorry about the triple post

        • Matt

There is pitch tracking in every ballpark and it’s all online now. You can very easily see this without relying on a few people who are just guessing. The facts are clear- the pitches are NOT strikes.

        • Matt

There is pitch tracking in every ballpark and it’s all online now. You can very easily see this without relying on a few people who are just guessing. The facts are clear- the pitches are NOT strikes.

  • Cy Pettitte

this line up is fucking terrible. stop walking people.

    Strikes please.

    nice 3-2 curve..

Big K early for Phelps, nice

  • RetroRob

    Kay talking about defense. Funny.

  • Hummingbird S.

    0-2, time to nimble

  • EDDARD

Dave Phelps has been watching Phil Hughes too much. Attack this AA lineup!

  • Hummingbird S.

ridiculous… Nunez gets to that ball

    • The Real Greg

And promptly will throw it into the granstand.

      • Hummingbird S.

        No.

  • RetroRob

Jeter did not look good at all there. Not his strong side to begin with, but really slow there. Yet funny again considering Kay talking about defense and at shortstop.

  • your mom

That’s what happens when you walk people.

  • teddy

    pathetic

  • Fin

2 walks kill you every time.

  • CG

    Good whiff

  • Matt

Phelps is attacking the lineup. He is making good pitches. They just put together some good AB’s on him in the 2nd.

The real issue is that they let a huge opportunity slip away in the first. The kind that if you capitalize, Toronto basically packs it in and hands you a win. The offense rarely does its job, and it puts a lot more pressure on the pitching staff to be perfect with every pitch.

    • The Real Greg

Cano did his job. He moved the runner over.

      ARod failed.

      • Need Pitching & Hitting

        That’s not Cano’s job.

        • Tom

That’s like saying the minimum requirement for my job is to wear pants to work. Is it part of my job? Yeah, it is. Is it the most important part of my job? No.

            • Need Pitching & Hitting

You have to wear pants to work?

Yeah, I caved in and work for “the man” now. and “the man” gets very upset when you show up to work sans pants.

                • Pat D

I could wear shorts at my old job. I’m gonna miss that whenever I start working again.

  • your mom

I wonder if Phelps will be better as our 5th starter or as a long reliever next season(assuming he’s no traded)?

  • Pat D

I’ve decided that Tampa needs to start winning again in case Baltimore is still close those last 3 games of the season.

Basically, Erica and Raul Ibanez aka Tom Marvolo Riddile (who I still call Plouffy from his old handle) had a little minor internet flirting going on after Erica divulged that she understood Star Wars memes and liked the Yankees at the same time, thus becoming his dream girl. Erica responded that although she already has a boyfriend in real life, it was indeed a Flawless Internet Proposal. FIP. And a meme was born.

              • http://Twitter.com/erica_lynnnn Erica

                Yusssssss

              • Joe

Oh! I thought this was a joke about the pitching statistic. haha.

    • Hummingbird S.

      Definitely not Girardi.

      • Joe

He hates CDick too. Dickerson > Jones.

        • RetroRob

          Joe > Jones.

I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt. He’s slumping so bad he needs to sit for any other option right now.

          • Joe

Don’t mind my outrageous love for Chris Dickerson. (Pause)

But Jones is horrible at the moment.

Oh, and yea I can get better swings off than this guy right now. haha.

  • EDDARD

1st and 2nd again here. Hit king Ichiro up next to get us on the board.

  • your mom

I don’t get the bunt attempt with Stewart next.

  • Hummingbird S.

that is seriously pathetic… Nix had to be strolling around the bases. He had plenty of time to score.

    • CUYanks

      Not a great slide.

      • The Real Greg

The slide wouldn’t have mattered. It was a fantastic throw. Right on the money.

  • Joe

Damn! He should have gotten Cano out earlier too. Colby has a rocket.

  • The Real Greg

    Good play by the Jays

  • Havok9120

    That was a fantastic throw.

  • your mom

    Yay! RISP hit!

  • Pat D

I still can’t tell if he tagged him.

  • WhittakerWalt

    WTF

    SAFE!!!

At home is Joe Torres charity……….

      He was out.

    Stewie!! and not a cheapie!!

  • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

    ChRISPy Stewart!

  • jjyank

Michael Kay, does Rasmus really look like the type of guy that washes his face multiple times a day? Seriously.

    • RetroRob

I’m not sure Rasmus showers more than once a week.

  • The Real Greg

    Stewie!

  • RetroRob

Imagine if Nix wasn’t thrown out.

I have difficulty letting things go!

    • Joe

Family guy references are better imo.

  • EDDARD

    Chris Stewart clutch hit!

  • Jag

    Stewart!

  • Pat D

I’m just now realizing that MLB.tv on my phone is behind even ESPN’s scoreboard. That’s annoying.

  • Allie

    STEWART?????

    wow, OK THEN! Stewart!

  • Hummingbird S.

Awful AB by Jeter. This offense needs to be better. They have 3 hits and 3 walks (and a SB) in 2 innings but just 1 run. That is terrible.

    • The Real Greg

I think they are 2-5 with RISP. Remember Rasmus saved a run with his arm.

  • Celerino Sanchez

Every time I see Jayson Nix play it reminds of why some guys are simply AAAA players. He looks like he can do some good things but then you end up scratching your head. Draws a walk (good); gets picked off (bad); sfae because of a bad throw (good); almost caught going back to the bag (bad); nailed at home on a good throw but he slid right into the tag (bad).

  • Nice Scheister

Bad inning… WE LET EM OFF THE HOOK!!

    • The Real Greg

Well Rasmus helped with a great play.

    • Pat D

Tried to post the Denny Green commercial, but it’s not showing up.

  • Hummingbird S.

    Phelps trying to outcrap Romero.

  • Cy Pettitte

Did Davis stop for a snack or what?

    • RetroRob

Good question. Something happened. The dude is fast. Jason Giambi would have been closer to second with a normal jump.

  • RetroRob

Colby Rasmus: Most repulsive player in baseball.

    Purely subjective.

  • Need Pitching & Hitting

Stewie doing all kinds of good things.

  • Hummingbird S.

    that was nice!

    Stewart must be on Roids.

  • Kevin G.

Hell of a throw by Stewy

  • jjyank

Anyone ever get a macadamia nut that didn’t have any sort of opening? So disappointing.

    • OMG! Bagels!

As my grandmother would say: Is that the biggest problem you have today young man? Be grateful and shut up.

      • jjyank

First world problems, I know. But now my fingers hurt from trying to open all the damn nuts that a closed up tighter than a virgin clam at low tide.

      • http://Twitter.com/erica_lynnnn Erica

Methinks you’re just jealous because you only have bagels and not macadamia nuts.

        • Joe

You guys should really eat cereal at all hours of the day. Feasting on some frosted flakes.

          • http://Twitter.com/erica_lynnnn Erica

            Frosted flakes the best flakes

            • Joe

Yea the smelly kid with dandruff doesn’t have the best flakes.

              (Tried too hard? Yea.)

          • jjyank

I’m a Frosted Mini Wheats sort of guy. But I can only eat that so many days a week. Trust me. Feeding yourself is a bitch at first if you get too lazy.

            • Joe

I’m a lazy eater too. The internet should feed us!

        • jjyank

This! They are fucking delicious. But the other night I ate all the easy ones because I was lazy. Now tonight when I want some more, I have to labor intensively to open the damn thing up. Not cool.

          • http://Twitter.com/erica_lynnnn Erica

You went for the whoreish nuts.

Your entire response here is so suggestive that I am Beavis and Butt-head laughing right now!

            • jjyank

Yes, I enjoy the whore-nuts. They don’t make me work too hard. Sometimes I don’t need to go to the ATM either. Some macadamias just want to be eaten. Others are in fact prudes.

              • http://Twitter.com/erica_lynnnn Erica

                You cad.

        • OMG! Bagels!

          True.

  • http://Twitter.com/erica_lynnnn Erica

    Garbage time play.

  • EDDARD

Look at Swish tumbling around out there, just having fun. Great catch.

    • OMG! Bagels!

He loves Yankee Stadium. I can see him leaving us, but he will miss us.

  • jjyank

    Plouffy, have you been replaced?

            ……you have an oversized face?

            • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

It’s hard to gauge joking tones over the interwebs, I’m just going to assume you’re kidding.

              • jjyank

Of course. You’re only unsure because we’re facebook friends now :P But the picture you linked to is a very fat, fat face.

                • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

ARE YOU SAYING I HAVE A FAT FACE?!?!?

            • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

No, my broken heart causes wrinkles!!!

      • Joe

How do you do that? Newb question.

        • jjyank

The date just below your name is a link to your specific comment.

          • Joe

And that’s “Now you know!”, with jjyank.

            Thanks.

  • Tom

Cano doing his job again and advancing the runner.

    • The Real Greg

Watch the 77 Series and see how much Cosell, Seaver, and Jackson talk about that, especially in Game 6.

      • Tom

Well that must make it right then.

        • The Real Greg

I trust the knowledge of a HOF pitcher over any of you guys. YOu would do the same if I was in contention with him.

          • Tom

So they were talking about the #3 hitter in the lineup moving guys over?

            Or lesser hitters?

            • The Real Greg

Nettles and Pinella in one instance I recall to bring in Chambliss.

              • Tom

                Nettles hit 6th, Pinella 7th.

                (why am I not surprised)

                • The Real Greg

Not a number 3 hitter, but Nettles is a borderline HOF’er whose main attribute was to hit home runs and play good defense, in a way like Cano.

                  • Tom

Again the job of the #3 hitter in the lineup is not simply to move a runner 90 feet in the FIRST inning.

Thurman Munson and Reggie Jackson were not “doing their jobs” moving people 90 feet back then, just like Cano is not doing his job.

It’s a nice consolation prize but to say he did his job is absurd and another one of your ridiculous justifications.

      • Herby

I wouldn’t force Cosell on anyone…but yea, fundamentals are pretty much non-existant these days.

  • Hummingbird S.

big bats not working again.. very disappointing.

    • Herby

Give them a break…Cy Romero is on the mound…

  • http://Twitter.com/erica_lynnnn Erica

    Oh c’mon!

  • The Real Greg

That was ball 4. Phelps better get that.

    • The Real Greg

Or whatever ball number it was

    • Hummingbird S.

gameday had that pretty clearly in the strikezone.

      • The Real Greg

Well given the reaction above me, I wasn’t the only one thinking it was low and inside.

  • your mom

Well, at least the productive part of the line-up will be hitting next inning.

  • Joe

With our luck Felix will lay an egg or pitch 8 great innings and then the O’s win in the 10th.

    • jjyank

If he lays an egg, can we sign whatever comes out of it?

      • Joe

What if the egg contained Carl Pavano?

        • http://Twitter.com/erica_lynnnn Erica

Then you kill it with fire.

So we got a love FIP triangle going on here. YES!

          Let the battle begin.

          WHY?!

              • jjyank

Single is good for going into college. Go nuts. 2+ years removed…not so much.

                • http://Twitter.com/erica_lynnnn Erica

Joe, you’re going into college? Too young. Call your battles off!

Plus, I’m the greatest dark wizard of all time, you seriously don’t want to mess with me.

                • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Damnit JJ, we’re the same age (or just about, you might be a year or two older) don’t say things like this, it makes me lose hope!!!

                  • jjyank

1 year on you, I believe. But I’m in a more bleak situation than you. The only person besides my coworkers I know in this city is…my ex girlfriend. So yeah.

                    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Go out with your co-workers!!! Some of them must be of similar age, no? Also, trust me, you’ve got a much better situation cause your outlook is probably better than mine. Pouring out the purse a bit, but I have my brain working against me in some pretty terrible ways.

                    • jjyank

One is my age, but not a big fan of black girls (no racism intended). Just not my type. I just need to get a new job *cough* one that is a little more high profile *cough* *cough*. Plenty of pretty girls in that line of work. Just need to get one of those :)

                  • Joe

Hahah funny thing is I’m all height. Lengthy.

                    • jjyank

                      I got 2 inches on you buddy. 6 foot ain’t shit :P

                • Joe

Girls are just friends now! I planned to never get into a serious relationship until middle of college.

                  • jjyank

Good. I went into college with a high school girlfriend. Disaster, broke up around the first Christmas break. You got four years to randomly look up with people with no obligations. Enjoy it.

Though I was in a fraternity, made things a LOT easier once I was single.

    • The Real Greg

      Insert Yankee offense joke here.

    • http://Twitter.com/erica_lynnnn Erica

You jinxed us. I don’t know how, but you have.

  • Pat D

    Juan Guzman.

  • https://twitter.com/KramerIndustry Kramerica Industries

Some runs would be nice right about now.

  • Pat D

Whenever I see that clip of Lawrie, I always hear Jim Ross shouting, “As god is my witness, he is broken in half!”

  • Hummingbird S.

To make Romero look like a decent pitcher twice in 2012 is really impressive. Only this offense.

  • http://Twitter.com/erica_lynnnn Erica

    ICHIRO SO GOOD

    • jjyank

      ME LOVE YOU LONG TIME

      Is that racist?

      • http://Twitter.com/erica_lynnnn Erica

        I shall overlook this one.

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Ichiro?!?! He’s been en fuego today. I’m going to have to stop making fun of John and Suzyn for being on his dick.

    • OMG! Bagels!

Never. stop. making. fun. of. John. and. Suzyn.

I’ll have nothing to live for.

      • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

I just meant for this single thing. There is still so many things I can make fun of them about. Like their irrational love for Derek Lowe.

        • http://Twitter.com/erica_lynnnn Erica

          Or how professional Nix is.

          • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Or that I realized today, cause I was paying attention to gameday, John just makes up where pitches are and what the pitch is.

            • http://Twitter.com/erica_lynnnn Erica

Yup hahaha. Or he waits til someone tells him.

              • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Haha, I was watching a series of pitches to A-Rod I think, every pitch was a 2 or 4 seam fastball. According to John the first pitch was a slider and every other pitch was a sinker…I couldn’t believe it. Like I just sat here in stunned silence mouthing at the monitor “that’s not right. He’s just making it up”

                • http://Twitter.com/erica_lynnnn Erica

                  Absurd!!

    • jjyank

Those would be some very interesting looking babies.

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

And Chris Stewart continues to prove that I could hit better than him…

  • The Real Greg

Defense has saved the Blue Jays at least 2 runs in this game. First Rasmus and then Lawrie

    • Tom

      FALLACY (on the 2nd run)

      • The Real Greg

True. Maybe hindsight but it was something

        • Tom

          Yeah, the “something” is FALLACY.

    • Hummingbird S.

whatever gets you through the night

      • Pat D

  • WhittakerWalt

“There’s no reason Ichiro shouldn’t be playing against lefties.”

    Guess who said this.

      Joe Girardi

      • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Close, it’s one of the people that I just vowed to not make fun of for their Ichiro love. She said it right after I clicked send.

      • WhittakerWalt

Suzyn Waldman. I guess she’s blown away by that .539 OPS vs. lefties.

  • OMG! Bagels!

What is the name of the RAB poster from last year with the long name who posted all the time on this site but hasn’t this year and is either here or not here this year?

    • http://Twitter.com/erica_lynnnn Erica

      Tommysmithjohncarlos or something like that???

      • OMG! Bagels!

YES. So what is/was the story? I was looking for archives and just remembered that.

        • http://Twitter.com/erica_lynnnn Erica

No clue :( he rocked though.

        • RetroRob

He had a baby. Went into RAB retirement.

      • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

        tsjc…I miss him.

        • Pat D

          Indeed.

The battles he’d get into with dumb posters were epic.

          • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Somebody asked me once if I was him because of some scrap I got in w/ somebody…I have never been so honored on the internet.

            • RetroRob

              Probably your handle.

              • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

yeah, it was the AKA I think, he loved using that. It was actually part of the inspiration behind my name.

          • RetroRob

He’d be exhausted by the rise in dumb posters.

            • Pat D

Knowing him he’d still have taken the time and effort to belittle each and every one of them.

Can you imagine what he’d do to stuart a?

      • jjyank
      • Pat D

His full name was tommiesmithjohncarlos a.k.a. Ridiculous Upside the Elder.

        • OMG! Bagels!

          and he must come back.

    • Need Pitching & Hitting

I just googled him and came across this GIF gem.

      http://riveraveblues.com/2011/.....how-50796/

      • jjyank

        Greatest. GIF. Ever.

      • Pat D

I posted on that thread! Yay me!

But that’s a great example of how he’d shut someone down.

Also shows how much bexarama is missed around here. But she’s a big shot now since her site is part of ESPN’s SweetSpot network.

      • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

        oh my. that is brilliant.

  • The Real Greg

Why has that happened so many times this year?

  • Chilango

Phelps has settled down nicely. But 4 hits off Romero is a disgrace.

    • Pat D

No. George Custer was a disgrace.

      • Pasta Stumbling Sojo

    Swish! Don’t leave us.

  • your mom

WTF is up with first pitch swinging tonight?

  • https://twitter.com/KramerIndustry Kramerica Industries

    Runs please.

  • The Real Greg

ARod has been dazzled by Romero’s change all night

    • Pat D

I’d link to that song from Chicago, but that would mean linking that song from Chicago.

  • Need Pitching & Hitting

Yep, Arod’s having a great day, eh Greg?

    • The Real Greg

Gotten worse as the night’s gone on.

    • Pasta Stumbling Sojo

You CANNOT complain on a day when a player has an RBI. THAT’S A RULE (TM)

  • http://Twitter.com/erica_lynnnn Erica

Still not getting why ARod gets booed.

    • Tom

      Mostly money and expectations.

It’s not like he’s unproductive, people just expect him to perform at an MVP level.

    • your mom

Maybe because he makes $29 million a year.

    • Chilango

Are you watching the game? Do you know what his salary is? How long his contract is for.

      • Need Pitching & Hitting

Salary and contract are Hank’s fault, not Arod’s.
If he offered me that contract, I’d take it also, and be a lot worse than ARod.

        • http://Twitter.com/erica_lynnnn Erica

          Yup. This.

          • Chilango

This has nothing to do with getting booed. It’s called a non-sequitur. Yup.

        • Pat D

If I was offered that contract, I wouldn’t have a chance to sign it. The stroke would kill me first.

      • http://Twitter.com/erica_lynnnn Erica

Actually. No. I happen to be watching a Mariners game from 1997.

        • Pat D

He had kind of a down year that year.

    • Joe

No clue. He completely changed the lineup once he was added back in. Plus look at that post Mike made about his statistics since coming back. He’s on a hot streak.

      • Pat D

He’s not hitting a home run every at bat.

  • Dela G

    wow they booed a-rod

    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

That’s the old fall back, when the offense is struggling, blame Arod.

  • Joe

    Anyone from Yonkers here?

  • Karl Krawfid

You would think the guy would sit on a offspeed pitch.

  • http://www.g6tec.com Jedile

So do we lead the league in strike outs? it sure feels that way.

  • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

Stuart a’s family at the game?

    • Anthony

      LOL

  • Joe

    Second deck please.

  • Dan in Athens

    Over/under – end of 2014 – ARod has 700 HRs?

    • Pat D

I’m gonna have to take under at this point.

    • Need Pitching & Hitting

      under

    • Laz

Over. It may be a stretch, but if he is ever going to break the hr record he will have to get going, and 25 HR pace is easily attainable.

Crazy to think Bonds had a .360/.600/.800 line as a 38 yo, and hit 73 hr at 36 which is Arod’s age now.

      • Pat D

We all know why that was possible.

        • Laz

Arod would have been on pace for 30 hr if he didn’t break his hand.

  • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

They didn’t boo Granderson as hard….notice that?

  • The Real Greg

Ricky Romero has had 2 out of 3 good starts against the Yankees and lost them both. In the first one he gave up only 3 runs but their bullpen imploded and in the second one he gave 2 runs but got outpitched by Phil Hughes.

  • https://twitter.com/KramerIndustry Kramerica Industries

God is this becoming an annoying game.

    • your mom

The first game was bad too.

      • https://twitter.com/KramerIndustry Kramerica Industries

At least they led by three runs for the majority of the game. It seemed like the W would maintain itself. It barely did, but it did nonetheless.

This game has been tied since the 2nd. Just a more precarious feeling. Not helped by a little visit by RISPFAIL in the Bronx tonight.

  • Effthisnoise

Wow, yanks making Romero look like a world beater

  • The Real Greg

Romero is either going to get a ND or he’s going to lose this game because that’s the way his year has gone.

    • Pat D

      He’s getting a Notre Dame?

Phelps was (I assume he’s done) outstanding!

    Howdy, peeps!

    • http://Twitter.com/erica_lynnnn Erica

      Hi!

  • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

I actually like the booing. Not because it’s deserved, but …..

because it’s nice to hear NOISE at YS3. It seems like the acoustics were an element that didn’t come over to the new park in 2009.

It’s an element of the intimidation factor that’s missing at the new Stadium. The 2009 team won because it was just that good. Mystique and aura always played a role before 2008. Decibels please!

    • Pat D

I think that’s the trade off to having elbow room and open concourses. The sound doesn’t reverb as much as it used to.

      • Mike N

I’ll take the open concourses!!! The new stadium is a pleasure to be in, no matter where you are. The old stadium was like a fucking dungeon.

        • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Same. Nice to actually have adequately sized bathrooms in a stadium too.

          • http://Twitter.com/erica_lynnnn Erica

Worked out well for that one couple, eh?

        • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

          The dungeon had character

        • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

Although I’ll admit, I’m in this frame of mind because someone posted a bunch of pictures of the old Stadium last night on here. I got all nostalgic.

I miss the noise. It’s underrated.

      • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

Yeah, I don’t like the trade-off to tell you the truth.

Other teams move fences in the offseason; the FO should find a way to adjust the acoustics. Has to be a way.

    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Yeah, the acoustics at the new stadium do kind of suck, at least from crowd noise aspect. I wonder what it’s like for concerts there, because they have had a couple.

      • jjyank

Can’t speak personally, but one of my best friends saw Roger Waters do The Wall there just a month or so ago. He said it was awesome, and for what it’s worth, he’s a big music buff (both as a listener and as a guitar player).

        • Mike N

I was at that concert, too, and it sounded outstanding!

        • Pat D

          David Gilmour > Roger Waters.

          • jjyank

For sure. I may be young, but David Gilmour is one of my favorite guitarists of all time. I don’t think anyone I’ve ever heard can convey such specific emotion though a guitar solo.

            • Pat D

Yea, he’s up there in my book. But I don’t put anyone over Hendrix.

              • jjyank

Love Hendrix too. But I’ve gotten baked and listen to The Wall front and back to not make Gilmour my favorite. And that’s not even my favorite album, I prefer Dark Side.

Speaking of which, my primary genre (reggae) has an amazing Dark Side cover. Check this out, I’m curious what people think:

                http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ttzwW7pIVIw

                • Pat D

I guess that shows I don’t know enough about reggae. I’ve always thought reggae to be primarily light and bouncy, so it’s hard to hear a reggae version of something that’s pretty dark in nature.

I also equate reggae with summertime, and since summer has slipped away, I don’t much like listening to reggae.

                  But this was enjoyable.

                  • jjyank

They covered the whole album too, not just this song. It is excellent.

                • Robinson Tilapia

Heard the Orb/Lee “Scratch” Perry collab, jjyank? Excellent album.

          • Robinson Tilapia

  • https://twitter.com/KramerIndustry Kramerica Industries

    7 H, 5 BB – 12 baserunners in six innings.

One run to show for it.

    Disgusting.

    • The Real Greg

Combo of bad luck (Stewart ground rule double)good defense (Lawrie and Rasmus) and bad at bats.

      • Pat D

That’s not the combo meal I ordered.

  • flamingo

    Ugh.

  • The Real Greg

Can we really complain about Jeter swinging on the first pitch since he has been so successful with it this year?

    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

I only take issue in situations like that, directly following the walk of a Stewart like hitter. I mean if he can’t find the plate against Chris Stewart, how is he going to find it 3 times vs a hitter of Derek’s caliber.

  • ArchStanton

Love Jeter, but his swinging on the first pitch after a walk never seems to work. I’m probably wrong, but that’s how it feels.

  • Laz

13 baserunners in 6 innings and they can only manage 1 run?

    • Laz

      12

    • JobaWockeeZ

I feel this is a common issue.

      • The Real Greg

Been a problem all year. Not gonna change now.

  • Mike N

I’m surprised Phelps is still in.

    • RkyMtnYank

I know, I got home late and saw he’s given up 1 run on 2 hits, thought for sure that would get him pulled right away.

      • Mike N

I was more thinking because he hasn’t gone nearly this long all season. He allowed the run much earlier in the game.

  • Nice Scheister

DFA Jeter, then throw him a parade for his 200th hit…..he’s done

    • jjyank

      parades….give him a raise……

      • Nice Scheister

Thanks for the template. I’ll save it in google docs for future trolling use.

    • Pat D

      Shouldn’t the parade come first?

      • Nice Scheister

I’m not good at fake trolling. I tried, I remembered the parade.

        • Pat D

See if they do the parade first, and then DFA him, it would eclipse what happened to Phil Rizzuto.

  • mt

Romero also shut us down basically the last time in New York , although we won – so frustrating that this offense cannot score.

  • Need Pitching & Hitting

I’m thinking Jeter may not be ready to play SS yet.

  • Pat D

    JFC Cap’n Jeets.

  • The Real Greg

Its strange. The Yankees, I believe, are third in the AL in runs scored. And yet they have struggled with RISP all season.

    • Mike N

Ball was hit hard. We got away with one there. Bringing in Boone Logan with bases loaded is a tactic Girardi cannot get away with twice in a row. Better tighten up decision-making before we face Oakland.

  • Effthisnoise

Man, how is this Toronto tean not in first place? Oh yeah they don’t get to play the yanks 162 gams

    • TomH

Better watch out for them in the future. It’s a pretty good team when the Injury God isn’t striking down their rotation and their best hitter. From what I read, their minor league system is pretty decent too.

In any case, they often rise to the occasion against NY.

  • The Angry Troll

I thought the Jays were suckin’ major donkey D? What happened? Is this offense going to forever be in a miserable rut? Me no can stands this!!!!!

  • your mom

    Fuck. this. offense.

  • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

food for thought: Jeter is going to hit a homerun for every million dollars he makes this year

A-Rod is going to hit a homerun for every $2 million he makes this year

    • Chilango

Which is part of the reason he gets booed so often. He’s an underperforming player who we’re stuck with for 6 more years. Age and PED have taken their toll on his body so he’ll probably spend a ,ot of time on the DL, or swinging at off speed stuff on the dirt.

  • The Angry Troll

Can someone please regurgitate that statistic about the Yankee’s unwillingness to win or rally past the 8th inning? Might as well prepare for the worst when the worst is to be expected.

    • JobaWockeeZ

      That’s if they’re losing. I think.

      • The Real Greg

        Yeah. That’s when they trail.

      • The Angry Troll

Yeah, they’re like 0 and 53 or something . . . Something absurd . . . Like, the only team in baseball to not have come back and won or SOMETHING past the 8th inning. Something, something, dark side, something. SOMETHING!

  • Effthisnoise

Logan, you have been way too effective, time for you to sit.

    • TomH

I hope they have someone on the training staff who can re-attach his arm when it finally falls off.

    • TomH

The Yanks ought to send someone down to Mexico to find Edwar Ramirez and bring him back to throw bp change-ups and to teach the pitch to their youth corps. I’m only half-kidding.

  • The Angry Troll

Oh. Just in time to see Cody blow the game. HOLLA!

  • Tom

Not a fan of this move with Lind on deck.

If Lowrie gets on, Girardi will likely go to Rapada, and then Farrell will punch hit for him (and Girardi will be stuck in a Rapada vs righty situation)

I know Logan vs Lowrie is not ideal, but with the pen already short…

  • The Angry Troll

    SOMETHING!!!!!!

  • Anthony

I don’t know why but it feels like we played the Jays way more than any other team this season.

    • The Real Greg

We only faced them once in the first half so we are playing them alot in the second half.

    • Pat D

Because most all of the games against the Jays have been in the second half, and there are still 4 more to come.

      • flamingo

Oh man, I’m getting sick of this team.

I just want a balanced schedule, Selig, is it too much to ask?

        • Anthony

I feel like making a schedule for the MLB (or any other professional sports league) must be insanely hard. So many things to consider…. location, traveling, matchups, etc.

      • flamingo

This team meaning the Jays, in case that wasn’t clear.

      • Anthony

Ah, I see. I figured it was me just getting frustrated with these low-scoring games. Thanks all.

      • CUYanks

        Actually, 5 more to go.

  • Dan in Athens

Boone, nice fucking job big man.

  • https://twitter.com/KramerIndustry Kramerica Industries

    How about some runs NOW?

Especially since this team doesn’t win with walk-offs.

    • The Real Greg

They had a walkoff against the Mets. Remember?

      • https://twitter.com/KramerIndustry Kramerica Industries

That’s the only walk-off win all year that involved hitting the baseball.

        Big whoop.

    • Pat D

Walk-off? Is that when someone gets lifted for a pinch runner after a walk?

  • WhittakerWalt

Booing A-Rod is such low rent crap from you, Yankees fans.

    • jjyank

Yeah. He’s the easy mass-target, but he’s been hitting well of late, today notwithstanding.

Yeah, it’s almost like they forgot the lesson of him being out of the lineup for 6 weeks.

They didn’t stop booing him after 2009, they never will. He’s an easy target and everyone would rather cater to the lowest common denominator than think a little.

      • Chilango

You have a point and he has been hitting well since he came off the DL but I guess when you make the superstar bucks and get the superstar hype, then the fans expect superstar performance. Even if they shouldn’t. So I’m not losing any sleep over him getting booed. And either is he, so it’s all good.

        • WhittakerWalt

They never boo Jeter. He makes superstart bucks, and he’s been in plenty of slumps.
We should never boo our own players.
          Except maybe Carl Pavano.

          • Yankee Fan 1

Jeter has been boo’d at yankee stadium. So has Mo. Embarrassing if you ask me.

            • WhittakerWalt

              WHO THE HELL BOOS JETER???

              That’s insane.

  • Tom

  • The Angry Troll

I’m confused . . . Has this reliever been in to face 4 batters thus far? Lefties AND righties? How . . . but . . . wait, how is this possible?

  • https://twitter.com/KramerIndustry Kramerica Industries

    There’s a baserunner.

    Let him touch home plate.

  • Mike N

    Bring home the leadoff walk!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The Real Greg

Why not bunt? Manufacture a run since you have failed with RISP. And you can get Ichiro up.

  • jjyank

Wow, Soriano up in the pen after a 4 out save earlier today?

    • CUYanks

Hey, he’s gonna opt out anyway. Let’s get what we can out of him.

  • The Angry Troll

OMG!!! Someone castrate Girardi IMMEDIATELY! AHH!!!!!! BLARGH!!!!! MIFF!!!!!! POOOOOOONNNNTANG!

  • Cy Pettitte

    send up Nunie please.

    • The Real Greg

      That could be the move.

  • Tom

I assume he will pinch hit for Ibanez here?

    • The Real Greg

      He did.

  • Need Pitching & Hitting

I’d much rather see Eduardo here.

    • Tom

Yup. But Girardi is stuck in that’s the 1B slot mode…

  • Mike N

    YEAHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Awesome steal of third!!!!

  • Mike N

    C’mon, Pearce!!!!!

  • Dan in Athens

    Unreal.

    pathetic, is pointless

  • Mike N

    Please, ICHIRO!

  • Dan in Athens

Ichiro, only you can wipe away the stain on the honor of our inept RH bench.

  • The Real Greg

    ICHIRO!

  • TomH

Well, Ichiro may have used up his probabilities for the day.

    • TomH

HOLY SMOKE! Prove me immediately wrong. What a hitter!

Would you still prefer Dickerson, Mike?

    • The Real Greg

      or Dewayne Wise?

      • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Easy to ask this after he has his first great day in two years, eh?

        • The Real Greg

          Hitting .315 as a Yankee?

          • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

.288 coming into today with a .311 OBP. As stuart would say, throw a parade ……..

            • jjyank

Hahaha way to jump on the stuart parade, Mike.

              give him a raise too….

        • Dan in Athens

Including today, what are his Yankee numbers Probaly better than the jones/ibanez crew and not as good as Grandy. But since Cash got him for nearly nothing, not a bad move.

  • RetroRob

    Ichiro, hero of the day!

  • Cy Pettitte

Ichiro! what got into him? I like it.

  • The Angry Troll

Welcome back, Ichiro! Please stick around for the next month and a half. PLEASE!

  • The Real Greg

Is that the great Dewayne Wise out there?

  • Tom

    Ichiro 7 for 8 today? (with 2 SB’s)

    • RetroRob

…and a game-saving catch in the first one.

      • Mike N

I nearly peed my pants during that play.

        • RetroRob

I thought it was a hit for sure. I thought it might have been a hit for a second even after he caught it, like the ball might pop out.

  • EDDARD

I stepped out for dinner an hour and a half ago. How are my guys, Ichiro and Big Game Dave Pehlps doing?

  • dalelama

Nice to see our $25M per year Punch ‘n’ Judy hitter doing his best Mama Cass impersonation again.

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

This is why you don’t throw the vets at the side of the curb come the stretch run. ICHIRO!

    Oh, hi everyone.

    • Need Pitching & Hitting

He’s playing because they threw a vet (Jones) to the curb.

      • Robinson Tilapia

        Wait….Jones is off the team?

        • Need Pitching & Hitting

No… just glued to the bench this game.

          • Robinson Tilapia

Not in disagreement with that idea.

  • Herby

Sure bailed Girardi out of another lame managerial move…

  • Cy Pettitte

why is Freddy up? are they expecting to score 9 more runs this inning?

  • EDDARD

Who is closing tonight, Jobber? Garcia? Ichiro?

  • Nice Scheister

    ICHIRO!!!!!!

  • RetroRob

    Your point being, Mike?

  • EDDARD

Ichiro with 7 hits in one day, Andruw with 9 in one day. Yeah, Ichiro shouldn’t be the every day left fielder.

    • EDDARD

lol, I misspoke in my excitement of Ichiro stealing another base. Andruw with 9 hits in 2 MONTHS! 2 months and Andruw can’t be as productive as Ichiro is in one day. NOW HE STOLE 3RD!!!!!!

      • Big Members Only (formerly RI$P FTW)

        lol or sumthin tss tss

  • Mike N

Ichiro better be the goddamn POTG!!!!!!!!

  • Need Pitching & Hitting

Wait. Why is Chris Stewart hitting for himself?

    • Need Pitching & Hitting

Obviously because the Jays are afraid to throw him strikes.

  • Leg-End

    Ichiro is unplayable right now.

  • Tom

Ichiro on fire…. Stewart should take 2 more pitches so he can steal 3rd and then home.

  • Defensive Indifference

    Can Ichiro pitch the 9th?

  • MartinRanger

this is unbelievable. I love it.

  • https://twitter.com/KramerIndustry Kramerica Industries

Ichiro is freaking nuts right now.

  • Jack

I like this Ichiro fella. I like the cut of his jib.

    • jay

ha. i laughed out loud a little. +1

  • Mike N

    HAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!! WOO!!!!

  • RetroRob

That was not a good percentage play, Ichi.

    • Mike N

And given how fast he is anyway, it was realtively low impact with two outs, except for allowing a run to score on a WP/PB.

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

    Ichiro: True Yankee(TM)??

bang bang there…I think he caught a break.

  • EDDARD

I’ve said it 50 times and I’ll say it again, if Ichiro isn’t the greatest midseason trade Cashman has ever made I don’t know who is.

I like the trade more than most folks on here, and perhaps the story isn’t yet completed, but there have been better midseason deals.

    • Big Members Only (formerly RI$P FTW)

      Lance ‘Clubhouse Cancer’ Berkman?

  • The Real Greg

I dare Ichiro to try and steal home

    • Leg-End

I can live with him just stealing Jones’s playing time.

  • Nice Scheister

    Ichiro is my Hiro!

  • Nice Scheister

He saved the 1st game with his glorious catch and put them ahead with Trout like numbers tonight. WOWZA!

  • Chilango

    Jeter gets the call. wow

  • Mike N

    wow

  • EDDARD

He called that pitch strike 2 and then called it ball 4. Inconsistent.

  • Anthony

The last time someone played great in a doubleheader it was Andruw against the Sox. Hasn’t done anything since. Hope Ichiro doesn’t fade into nothingness after tonight!

  • https://twitter.com/KramerIndustry Kramerica Industries

Jeter may have just convinced the ump it was a ball by just heading to first.

    • jjyank

      Ump: Striiiike threee-

Jeter: Bitch, that was ball four.

      Ump. Okay.

  • flamingo

A hit of some sort would be nice here.

Or Ichiro stealing home. That would be nice, too.

  • RkyMtnYank

    Wow, Jeter rep’d one there.

  • Chilango

    WOW. Break for us.

  • https://twitter.com/#!/Paddock9652 Stratman9652

Love it when they catch people swearing and then try to tell you they said something else.

  • Scotty B.

This is about as fun as a one-run inning (so far) can be.

  • Nice Scheister

That was off the plate, not “horse shit”, Mr. Ferrell.

  • http://fendersonandhampton.com Cuso

Captain got two very generous calls that AB. Better capitalize….oh wait it’s Swisher. Almost forgot.

  • JobaWockeeZ

    No one boos that?

  • https://twitter.com/KramerIndustry Kramerica Industries

But this inning would not end without more RISPFAIL.

Lets hope those stranded runs don’t haunt this team in the 9th.

  • RkyMtnYank

Think pitchers have figured out that you never throw Swisher a fastball, ever.

    • Nice Scheister

Ever. Just bounce one up there with people on, he’ll swing.

  • WhittakerWalt

    Swisher goddammit.

  • The Real Greg

So with all the failures with RISP, they are 3 outs away from winning the game and sweeping the doubleheader, which is very hard to do, if the statistics are correct.

    • Tom

      What statistics?

      • The Real Greg

That usually doubleheaders are split between the two teams.

        • Tom

          Context.

          It matters.

You can’t just take aggregate statistics and apply it to a single event. This is why you should not be using statistics.

          • jjyank

But it’s baseball! You can predict it right, Suzyn??

  • EDDARD

Ichiro Suzuki, Raphael Soriano, Andy and Big Game Dave Phelps gave it their all in these two games. 7 hits, 4 SBs, 2 saves, 1 W and two big game pitching performances. That’s quite a day for these four men if Soriano can close it out here.

  • Hummingbird S.

what a surprise… Swisher chokes with the pressure on. Three whiffs on 3 identical pitches. Fucking pathetic, as usual.

    • The Real Greg

      And yet…

  • Nice Scheister

Swisher needs to pretend its garbage time, all the time.

  • Chilango

Did they boo Swisher? I fuckin did.

  • https://twitter.com/KramerIndustry Kramerica Industries

    So, Raffy tries it again.

Lets hope he’s as sharp here as he was this afternoon.

  • your mom

I guess they are expecting MFIKY to opt out. Why else would they try to mess up his arm like this?

    • CUYanks

Pitchers pitch in both ends of doubleheaders all the time, though.

  • Dan in Athens

Rafael bidding for hero of the day. This afternoon’s escape job and possibly holding a one run lead here could even eclipse Ichiro 2004’s cameo.

    • Nice Scheister

      I’m in Athens…..,.GA right now.

      • Dan in Athens

        Are you at UGA?

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Trying to get 8 outs out of Soriano today..even w/ two straight days off he’s probably not going to be available tomorrow, and possibly the next day.

    • jjyank

I’m surprised he’s in again. I thought for sure after a 4 out save in game 1 he would be unavailable.

      • Joe

Probably because DRob isn’t being 2011 DRob.

        • jjyank

That’s an unfair expectation. 2011 D-Rob was unreal.

          • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Yeah, he’s still been excellent this season, he was unbelievable last season. To hold anybody up to that standard isn’t fair.

            • Joe

Haha I know. His K/9 was like 15.00.

But he’s trusted less this season. Let’s be honest.

    • Joe

Not if this inning is this quick!

  • Joe

    MFIKY

  • Matt

It’s getting predictable at this point. You can see that teams are pitching extra carefully to Jeter with first base open because they know that Swisher will get himself out in these spots.

Any pitcher with a decent offspeed pitch can get Swisher to screw himself into the ground trying to hit a grand slam. He doesn’t even have to set it up with a fastball. Swisher never stops sitting fastball.

  • Tony

That scared the shit out of me

  • https://twitter.com/KramerIndustry Kramerica Industries

No complaints about Joe at all for his BP management.

Just saying this could easily blow up in all of our faces. Always risky to pitch someone twice on one day.

One out, so far so good. Two more, Raffy.

    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

      One more for untuck time.

  • EDDARD

One out away from 2 untucks in one day.

  • RetroRob

Soriano looks better in this game then he did in game one…so far.

  • Joe

BOO! WHY NO CATCH INCREDIBLY HARD FOUL BALL ALEX?!

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

that nearly hit Soriano…not nearly as close as i thought though.

    • Mike N

He overreacted because he didn’t see the flight of the bat until it had nearly reached the mound, as he was following the flight of the ball.

      • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Which is logical, because you don’t expect a bat to come flying in your general direction from a pop up.

  • Mike N

Did I really hear boos that A-Rod didn’t catch that ball?

    • Big Members Only (formerly RI$P FTW)

Have you ever been to Yankee Stadium? Everyone there is a bonafide fool.

    • dalelama

MFIKY… 2 stress free 9th innings. Well done sir, take the rest of the night off!

  • Robinson Tilapia

Now THIS is getting the job done. A GREAT day for Yankee baseball. Get it done tonight, King Felix.

    • RetroRob

Speaking of which, now I need to decide it I will watch that game as I was part of the merry few in last night’s game thread/open thread with the game to 4am! Feel surprisingly good.

      • Robinson Tilapia

I’d say “those days are long behind me,” but I think you’re actually older than me.

Someone needs to be the night watchman around here. It might as well be you.

        • Jack

          Who watches the watcher?

        • RetroRob

I am as I’m in my 40s and have a college-aged child, meaning the nights have having a fussy child waking me are gone. My job also requires me to work funky hours for some international clients, which means I’m awake (and asleep) and some very weird hours. What I have discovered is seven hours of sleep is great, but it doesn’t have to be in a row!

          • Robinson Tilapia

I especially need my beauty sleep because of my waking child.

              – Uncle Paul

            • RetroRob

Exactly. I have control of my sleeping time now. When you have a young child you can not, so you must take it when you can cause you can not assume you’ll have it later.

Not sure if that made sense.

  • flamingo

Don’t look now – that’s six of seven, and four in a row for the Yankees.

Hopefully they are peaking at the right time.

  • MartinRanger

So the Yankees won two games.

And did not hit a single home run.

    Isn’t that interesting?

    • EDDARD

And they won two consecutive games all in one day, something they failed to do for a month until the Boston series. With Andy back all we need is to get Teix back and get CC on track and we’ll be firing on all cylinders again.

What station is the King Felix/O’s game on? ESPN is showing the Rangers/Angels.

    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

      I second Erica’s question…even though I don’t think I’m going to get it…

      • Robinson Tilapia

Sons of bitches. That’s NOT on TV in this area?

        • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Not on the basic IO package. I’m just gonna watch MLB Tonight and hope they have a bunch of updates on it.

        • http://Twitter.com/erica_lynnnn Erica

Right?! You’d think a game with Baltimore would be shown here. >:(

          • Robinson Tilapia

I know. I’ll just switch to shows about topics we can’t discuss instead.

            • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Daily show doesn’t start for 20 minutes though, and if it’s not delivered in a humorous fashion, I usually get angry pretty quickly.

              • Robinson Tilapia

                Watching Lawrence for now.

I love that one of his frequent analysts is a failed Virginia senate candidate actually named Krystal Ball, who is rather hot.

She also got sunk when she ran for senate when college pictures of her holding a dildo in her hand at a party made the media.

          • RetroRob

I had that same issue last night. Regional coverage on MLBN was Rangers vs. the Angels, when obviously most in this area care about the Orioles.

I do have MLB.tv, which I eventually went to. Just don’t like watching games on my computer cause it distracts me from the writing I’m usually doing on my computer.

  • Fin

Man, Boston is bad, I saw them winning 3-1 in the 4th and next time i look they are loosing 13-3.

  • Dave M

Soriano is going to need the rest of the week off after getting 7 outs in the same day. Isn’t this the same guy who couldn’t pitch back to back days prior to this year?

  • Robinson Tilapia

My wife was once looking over client questionnaires when she was in a research position for a non-profit. The questionnaires asked for medical information which included whether you’d ever contracted an STD, and where you received treatment for it.

She once found a questionnaire that read like this:

Have you ever been treated for an STD? Yes
    Where? Genitals.

    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

My god. People that dumb shouldn’t be allowed to mate…they could have offspring!!!

    • jjyank

Erm. I have no idea how I should respond to this.

    • Rocky Road Redemption

When I was in middle school as a bonus question on a history test we were asked to write where Gerald Ford was buried. Naturally very few people had any idea, so all of them put something along the lines of, “a cemetery”, “a graveyard”, or “a coffin”.

I wanted to be more creative, so I just wrote, “in a hole”. The teacher cracked a rib laughing, but still marked me wrong.

      • Robinson Tilapia

There’s an urban legend in my family that, when one of my uncles, who is hard of hearing, went for his citizenship exam, he was kicked out after a minute for attempting to answer “how are you?” with “Me no Hawaiian. Me Cuban.”

      • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

The difference being you were in middle school and being asked an obscure question…

        • Rocky Road Redemption

…Well, duh. I just found it related and funny.

Actually, the original quote sounds like something I would do if I was feeling like a smart-ass.

    • The Real Greg

That’s like the classic Newlywed Game blooper when Eubanks asked the couples to name the weirdest place where they had sex and one of the wives said “In the butt, Bob”

      • Robinson Tilapia

The proper term, Greg, is “make whoopie.”

        • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

That’s a Clerks (or Kevin Smith) reference right?

          • Robinson Tilapia

That’s what Bob Eubanks would refer to sex as on The Newlywed Game. I’m sure that’s where Smith got it.

            • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Absolutely, now I remember, it’s from Mallrats and they are actually spoofing that type of game show at the time.

              • The Real Greg

The man playing the host in that movie is another old game show host, Art James.

                • Robinson Tilapia

Had to wiki him. I grew up glued to daytime game shows and don’t remember him at all.

                  • The Real Greg

He did game shows in the late 60s-early 70s. A lot of duds so that’s probably why you didn’t hear of him.

                    He was an announcer too.

                  • RetroRob

I recognize the name, but can’t place him. He might have been sunsetting by the time you were watching.

                    • Robinson Tilapia

Shit. I even remember guys like Jack Barry doing “The Joker’s Wild,” though.

                    • The Real Greg

I recently watched some Joker’s Wild on Youtube. Their questions are so easy.

                  • RetroRob

                    From Wikipedia:

Art James (October 15, 1929 – March 27, 2004) was an American game show host, best known for shows such as The Who, What, or Where Game and Pay Cards!. He was also the announcer on the game show Concentration.

Outside of Concentration, I never even heard of those shows, so maybe that’s why his name rang a bell, but I can’t place him.

    • http://Twitter.com/erica_lynnnn Erica

      Hahahahaha I love stupid people.

  • Rocky Road Redemption

My arbitrary definition, just because it’s a nice sounding number, for “going on a run” is five wins in a row. That’s when you can talk about your winning streak as if it matters.

One more win, boys. Let’s get this train rolling.

    • Robinson Tilapia

….as opposed to “having the runs,” which only applies to Chan Ho Park. Zing.

      • Joe
      • https://twitter.com/#!/Paddock9652 Stratman9652

Wow I had forgotten about him…

Speaking of shitty relievers, wonder what happened to Chad Gaudin and Sergio Mitre.

        • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

hey man Chad Gaudin and Sergio Mitre are two of the best guys I’ve ever had on my pitching staff-Joe Girardi.

          • Robinson Tilapia

I have a soft spot for the first Gaudin run, I will admit.

          • https://twitter.com/#!/Paddock9652 Stratman9652

            Professional pitchers.

            • Robinson Tilapia

I will admit that I get what John and Suzyn meant with the “professional hitter” line for Nix.

There’s always a place for someone you can plug in for a certain period of time at a position who, while they’d get exposed massively as an everyday guy, will be a spark for you this year before they go be a spark on some other team next year.

          • Rocky Road Redemption

To be fair Chad Gaudin was fairly useful for awhile.

            Mitre I’ve never understood.

        • Robinson Tilapia

Gaudin’s on the Marlins. Mitre lives inside Joe Girardi’s pants.

        • Rocky Road Redemption

To this day I will never understand Joe Girardi’s love affair with Sergio Mitre.

          • Robinson Tilapia

Had him on the Marlins before he needed TJS, I believe. Thought the guy had something. Took too long to realize he really didn’t have what he thought he had.

          • https://twitter.com/#!/Paddock9652 Stratman9652

Still convinced he had pictures of Joe and another woman.

  • captain kiwi

dammit. i thought i got off work early enough to catch the game. no matter, 2 wins in 1 day is a few shades of sexy. and if i had wheels like ichiro i’d car, for crying out loud. good form ichi, good form.

    • captain kiwi

      i’d be a car* dammit.

    • RetroRob

Well, there’s the Orioles game. I think last night’s game, or this morning’s game, has ended!

      • captain kiwi

oh goodness… i think i’m still reeling from that gamethread. still debating whether to pour me a glass of wine or not for king felix’s game…

        • RetroRob

Drink deeply from a glass of Strange Wine.

  • EDDARD

If King Felix is going to win it’s going to have to be 1-0. Even Joe Saunders can shut this lineup down.

    • Fin

LOL no kidding. NOt going to score many runs with MOntero and Smoak as the run producers in your lineup.

    • Allie

      You jinxed it…1-0 O’s.
Come on Jesus, be the Yankees savior all the way from Seattle!

  • Robinson Tilapia

Is this the longest a game thread has ever gone post-game? We must be happy tonight.

    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

ugh…btw, in play runs for Reynolds and the O’s

  • EDDARD

Fuck Mark Reynolds. 1-0 Os and that’ll be all Joe Saunders needs.

    • Robinson Tilapia

Joe Saunders is suddenly some sort of worldbeater?

      • jjyank

It’s Eddard World, R-Tils. The new RAB vacation destination.

  • yo

    orioles scored… that games over

  • Robinson Tilapia

Looking back on tonight’s TSJC homage…..remember when people were convinced he’d come back as Stairs?

  • Big Members Only (formerly RI$P FTW)

Stewart is embarrassing in his faux-Affliction shirt.
The only thing douchier than an Affliction shirt is a fake Affliction shirt.

    • Jack

You see that guy over there? I bet he’s a badass. I can tell from all of his No Fear t-shirts.

  • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Ugh..I want to stay up to date w/ the O’s game, and the easiest way to do that is MLB Tonight…but I cannot stand Harold Reynolds anymore.

    • captain kiwi

      YES! franklin gutierrez ties it.

  • RetroRob

    HR. Tie score.

  • Get Phelps Up

Gutierrez ties up the O’s at 1!

  • jjyank

Tilapia, Plouffy, you guys are fucking weird. In a good way though. Just read a few comments above because me adrenaline is not letting me sleep, despite a desperate need for it. Take that as a compliment. I’m weird too. Got a good chuckle out of what’s going on up above.

    • http://thecarsboneblog.tumblr.com Raul Ibanez AKA Tom Marvolo Riddle

Hey man, you’re telling me you’ve never just chilled in your living room in the buff? If you haven’t I highly suggest trying it. It’s very liberating.

      • Robinson Tilapia

Then you invite friends to sit on the same couch the next day.

  • forensic

Geez Guti (as they annoyingly call him in Seattle), where was that last night???

  • captain kiwi

mariners hitting saunders hard, just right at defenders. and eat nuts mcclouth.

  • RetroRob

M’s had 17 1/3 scorless innings until that HR, and I saw too much of that last night.

    • Get Phelps Up

I watched all 18 innings last night. I really paid for it this morning.

      • captain kiwi

        troopers, the both of ye.

        • RetroRob

Really was not the intention. I tuned in at the end to watch the end. Yet once it was tied, the game always seemed minutes away from ending…then hours went by.

      • forensic

By the time I went to sleep after the game, it didn’t even feel like I slept when I woke up.

Luckily, I usually do pretty well without much sleep and only felt it a little bit right after eating lunch, which always makes me want to nap.

        • Robinson Tilapia

Yeah, but you’re on the west coast, aren’t you?

          • forensic

Yeah, but get up very early on my work days. Went to sleep at about 1:30 and got up at 4:30. I finally had a day without training anyone today though, so I knew it’d be pretty relaxed for me and I was intent on enjoying the night as long as I could.

        • RetroRob

I went to bed at 4am. Got up at 9am. Drove to a meeting at 10, came back at 1:30 and have been watching Yankees all day and now O’s again. I feel like non-stop baseball for the past day.

  • The Real Greg

This rangers Angels game is big too because if the Angels lose the wild card difference increases with the Rays also wilting down the stretch.

    • CUYanks

Yes, coolstandings has the playoff odds for the Yankees now at 97% (!!)

      • RetroRob

        Not.Good.Enough!

  • RetroRob

Come on, M’s. A run. Get a run.

  • Jack

    This one’s going 19.

  • Herby

hope it’s managed better than last nights game…three crappy sacrifice bunts with men on 1st but when you get a lead off double they don’t even attempt it.

    • Herby

Same as last night…two popped up bunt attempts…
