The Yankees are playing the Red Sox for the first time in 2013 this afternoon, at least in theory. New York sent a very unrepresentative roster to Fort Myers for the game, with Brett Gardner the only slam dunk big leaguer on the travel squad. The Yankees are off tomorrow, so this is a good opportunity to give the regulars two consecutive days off, or at least two light workout days in a row. Here’s the starting lineup…

  1. LF Brett Gardner
  2. SS Eduardo Nunez
  3. 2B Jayson Nix
  4. DH Juan Rivera
  5. 1B Dan Johnson
  6. CF Melky Mesa
  7. RF Zoilo Almonte
  8. 3B Corban Joseph
  9. C Bobby Wilson

And on the mound is the right-hander from the Inner Banks of North Carolina, Adam Warren. Check out LoHud for the day’s second string.

This afternoon’s game is scheduled to start at 1:35pm ET and can be seen on YES and (no local blackout). Enjoy.

  1. trr says:

scrubs??? this could our starting lineup by mid-season!

  2. CountryClub says:

At least we get to see more of Mesa, almonte, Austin and Murphy. Ramirez is pitching too.

  3. Ethan says:

My god Nunez needs a properly fitting helmet

  4. Jonathan says:

Now batting, hitting third for the New York Yankees…..Jayson Nix! I know its spring training but it looks hilarious. Think of the guys to hit in the 3 hole since the dynasty years.

  5. Dan says:

Ramirez has great stuff, 98mph in his second inning of work this early in spring.

  6. Darren says:

Why is Larry Rothschild wearing a 2011 Playoffs sweatshirt??

  7. Govin says:

Good boy Jr. Maybe this is the year that Jr puts it all together. We shall see.

  8. CG says:

Holy hell those kids need to shut it. Had to turn the volume off on the tv.

    • Need Pitching & Hitting (but mostly hitting) says:

Not sure what’s harder to listen to: Lorenz and Flaherty, or those annoying kids.

  9. Chuck says:

What’s Kevin long doing playing first..

Jr is good and so is Austin that was a bs call.

  10. dkidd says:

ned colletti should be banished from the game for giving up de la rosa and webster

  11. BMcP says:

I swear I will be hearing “LET’S GO RED SOX LET’S GO” in my dreams tonight.

  12. Need Pitching & Hitting (but mostly hitting) says:

Who’s skinnier? Kelvin Perez or Edwar Ramirez?

  13. BMcP says:

This Dustin Romine guy the NESN folks keep talking about could be a good starting C option

  14. Tony says:

Ramirez is interesting. Not sure what happened in 2011, and he’s a little old now to hit AA for the first time, but that’s a big fastball and a couple of promising secondary pitches that could use a little more work. Got out of a couple of jams against Sawx big leaguers. That’s solid big-league reliever stuff.

    • Bo Knows says:

22 isn’t old for AA, its age appropriate. Also Ramirez has had injury issues which has delayed him

    • vicki says:

don’t get annoyed when he throws the tertiary slider. that will be his life. fb/changeup can get him bp action this summer. but i think he’s so pretty; i hope that slider rates.

      go, jose.

  15. Jerry says:

Can’t help but feel good about a team composed of our scrubs beating the Sox big leaguers.
