RHP Gabe Encinas is done for the season with some kind of elbow surgery according to his Twitter feed. No idea if it’s Tommy John surgery or bone chips or something else entirely. He was placed on the DL last week. Meanwhile, C Peter O’Brien was named the Low-A South Atlantic League Offensive Player of the Week.

Triple-A Scranton (6-5 loss to Columbus in ten innings, walk-off style)

  • 2B Corban Joseph & RF Brennan Boesch: both 0-4, 1 BB — CoJo whiffed twice … Boesch scored a run and struck out three times
  • LF Zoilo Almonte: 2-4, 2 R, 1 BB
  • DH Thomas Neal: 2-5, 1 2B, 3 RBI, 2 K
  • CF Melky Mesa: 1-5, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 K
  • RHP Sam Demel: 2 IP, zeroes, 4 K, 0/1 GB/FB — 15 of 27 pitches were strikes (56%)

Double-A Trenton (7-6 win over Richmond)

  • LF Ramon Flores: 1-4, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K
  • RF Tyler Austin: 1-3, 2 BB, 1 K, 1 SB — seven hits in his last 34 at-bats (.206)
  • C J.R. Murphy: 2-3, 3 R, 1 RBI, 2 BB — on pace for 97 walks this year (51 in 2012)
  • CF Slade Heathcott: 3-5, 3 RBI, 1 K
  • RHP Mikey O’Brien: 7 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 4 K, 8/6 GB/FB — 64 of 99 pitches were strikes (65%)
  • RHP Danny Burawa: 1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 1/1 GB/FB — 19 for 32 pitches were strikes (59%)

High-A Tampa (2-1 win over Clearwater)

  • CF Mason Williams & LF Ben Gamel: both 0-4 — Williams struck out twice … Gamel stole two bases, scored a run, and struck out
  • 2B Angelo Gumbs: 2-4, 1 3B — 9-for-24 (.375) with with three doubles and a triple since coming off the DL
  • DH Rob Refsnyder: 0-4, 1 K
  • C Gary Sanchez: 2-4, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 PB — 14 hits in his last 39 at-bats (.359) with three doubles and two homers
  • RHP Shane Greene: 6 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 5 K, 6/3 GB/FB — 47 of 63 pitches were strikes (75%) … 53/8 K/BB in 55.2 innings
  • LHP Cesar Cabral: 1.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 2/1 GB/FB — 19 of 30 pitches were strikes (63%) … looks like he’s pitching every three days right now, but that should get down to every two days eventually
  • RHP Taylor Garrison: 1.1 IP, zeroes, 3 K, 0/1 GB/FB — 17 of 25 pitches were strikes (68%) … 21/3 K/BB in 19.1 innings

Low-A Charleston (5-2 loss to Savannah)

  • CF Jake Cave: 0-4, 2 K — threw a runner out at the plate
  • DH Greg Bird: 0-3, 1 BB, 1 K
  • 3B Dante Bichette Jr.: 2-3, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 K — nine hits in his last 23 at-bats (.391)
  • RHP Cesar Vargas: 5 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 7/4 GB/FB
