Heathcott & Ramirez help Thunder to a win

Game 31: Coors Field
Rockies shutout punchless Yanks in series opener

RHP Mikey O’Brien has been promoted to Double-A Trenton according to Josh Norris. The Thunder have a full rotation, so it’ll be interesting to see what happens there. I suppose this could be the end of the ill-fated LHP Francisco Rondon as a starter experiment, especially since they line up to pitch on the same day.

Late Updates: 3B Rob Segedin has an impingement in his hip, according to Norris. Hence the whole season-ending thing. Also, Norris says RHP Caleb Cotham has indeed been promoted to Triple-A and will start Thursday.

Triple-A Scranton (3-1 win over Indianapolis)

  • 2B Corban Joseph: 1-4, 1 R, 1 2B
  • CF Melky Mesa: 0-4, 4 K — 49 strikeouts and four walks this year
  • LF Zoilo Almonte: 1-4, 1 K
  • 3B Ronnie Mustelier: 0-4, 1 RBI, 2 K, 1 E (fielding)
  • RHP Brett Marshall: 6 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 4 BB, 8 K, 2/5 GB/FB — 58 of 92 pitches were strikes (63%) … 21 walks in 31.1 innings
  • RHP Mark Montgomery: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 0 K, 1/2 GB/FB — only ten of 21 pitches were strikes (48%) … seven walks in his last 7.1 innings

Double-A Trenton (5-1 win over Binghampton)

  • LF Ramon Flores: 0-4, 1 K — stuck in a little 6-for-37 (.162) rut
  • C J.R. Murphy: 1-4, 1 R, 2 K
  • CF Slade Heathcott: 2-4, 1 R, 3 RBI, 1 K — eight hits in his last 28 at-bats (.286), so he’s starting to come around a bit
  • RHP Jose Ramirez: 4 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, 1 WP, 1 HB, 4/1 GB/FB — 53 of 84 pitches were strikes (63%) … he was 91-96 mph with the fastball
  • RHP Danny Burawa: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, 3/1 GB/FB — 15 of 27 pitches were strikes (56%)

High-A Tampa (4-2 loss to Fort Myers)

  • CF Mason Williams: 0-4, 1 K
  • LF Ben Gamel: 1-3, 1 2B, 1 BB
  • 2B Rob Refsnyder: 2-4, 1 RBI — 16 hits in his last 38 at-bats (.421)
  • DH Gary Sanchez: 0-4, 2 K — six hits in his last 39 at-bats (.154)
  • RHP Corey Black: 4 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, 1 HB, 4/2 GB/FB — 41/11 K/BB in 34.2 innings
  • RHP Matt Daley: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K — this was his fourth appearance, so I have to think he’ll join the Triple-A team soon

Low-A Charleston was rained out. The game will not be made up.
