Game 58: Just Win (Again)

Last night’s win over the Indians felt like a million bucks, but now the Yankees have to do it again. One win does not halt a skid as we learned with last Friday’s victory over the Red Sox. The Bombers need to string a few more of these things together and get on a little bit of a roll as the weather warms up. Here’s the lineup that will face left-hander Scott Kazmir…

  1. CF Ichiro Suzuki
  2. SS Jayson Nix
  3. 1B Mark Teixeira
  4. DH Robinson Cano
  5. LF Vernon Wells
  6. 3B Kevin Youkilis
  7. 2B David Adams
  8. RF Lyle Overbay
  9. C Chris Stewart

And on the mound is the former Hazelwood West High School Wildcat, right-hander David Phelps. He’s coming off that disastrous five-run, one-out start against the Mets.

The weather is lovely in New York, so there won’t be any trouble getting in a full nine innings tonight. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm ET and can be seen on YES locally and MLB Network nationally. Enjoy.

Injury Update: Eduardo Nunez (setback) tried to swing a bat today and suffered another setback. He’s headed for various tests and won’t be back anytime soon.

  1. Robinson Tilapia says:

Prussia would never fear Scott Kazmir.

  2. BigBlueAL says:

Hope for alot of K’s from Phelps tonight. Not exactly the best defensive lineup the Yankees can throw out there.

    • The Doctor says:

I guess with Swisher, Reynolds, and Santana in the heart of the lineup you can probably count on at least a few, but it does seem like a bit of a gamble. Overbay will really have to hold his own without Gardner’s flat out stupid range covering some of right.

    • trr says:

not by a long shot. Hope for a bounce back start from Phelps

  3. The Doctor says:

Benching Gardner hardly seems like the best way to win, especially when Overbay’s in right field. Just have to hope Phelps can keep the ball on the ground until the inevitable defensive replacement.

    • trr says:

Not really a benching, more a day off, I’d say

      • The Doctor says:

Oh I know I’m not implying anything negative, I just use the term benching to describe any time they’re on the bench instead of the field. Maybe a bit confusing. Still, I wouldn’t say this is the right day for a day off either.

    • LarryM Fl says:

Can not figure out Girardi’s lineups. Why not Gardner in CF. He did get a nice two RBI hit last night. Romine has three hits in the last two games.

  4. LarryM Fl says:

If it was not for bad luck Eduardo would have no luck at all.

    Go Yanks!

  5. Pasta says:

Just have this strange feeling that phelps throws a no hitter tonight.

  6. trr says:

Ichiro leading off, an interesting wrinkle. Overbay in RF vs. LHP?
Adams back at 2B….I guess Girardi is thinking about the Day game tomorrow.

    • The Doctor says:

Didn’t even think about the fact that it’s a lefty on the mound. Not sure how you can really justify having Overbay instead of Gardner out there. Sure, Brett needs rest occasionally but this is a pretty crucial time to turn things around, I’m sure he’d survive a couple more days.

Can’t say batting Vernon ahead of Youk makes any sense to me either.

      • Repo Man says:

Youk should probably be batting at the top of the order in place of Ichiro or Nix. That is a completely punchless 1-2, and Youk mashes lefties.

        • jjyank says:

Youk mashed lefties. It could still be small sample noise, but he has a -24 wRC+ against LHP so far this season.

That said, I do think he’ll come around on that front. But let’s not use the present tense for the time being.

    • Laz says:

Agree. At this point Overbay is useless vs most lhp.

  7. Robinson Tilapia says:

    Christ, that defensive alignment tonight.

I defer all questions and comments on Nunez to Eddard this evening.

  8. Repo Man says:

Cano and Gardner are the two most valuable Yankee position players over the last few years via fWAR. If your two best position players need a day off, why pick the same day? Is this really about finding more PA’s for Overbay?

  9. Cuso says:

Double digit runs tonight. Young and Adams go yard. Yeah I said it.

  10. Winter says:

While I don’t like taking Gardner out of the lineup just as he seems like he might be heating up, I understand it. He’s played every inning of every game for the last 11 games, with no off-days in that stretch (although there was the rain game).

  11. Eddard says:

I have full faith in BGDP tonight and Overbay has his back in RF.

    • jjyank says:

I’m curious. Did you have faith in him 5 days ago? Because if you did, you might want to change it up a bit. Like Plouffy riding the bus. Baseball fans are a superstitious lot.

      • Eddard says:

Yes I did. Name me one pitcher who hasn’t had a clunker every now and then. Look at him, striking out guys right and left.

        • jjyank says:

My point wasn’t actually pointing out your man-crush on Phelps. Which, by the way, is kind of weird. What I was saying, was a light hearted attempt to inject some old-meme into Eddard World. I suppose that was a swing and a miss on your end, though.

    • Winter says:

Here is what Eddard said before Phelps’s last start:

With a 3 game slide and the offense sputtering so much it’s no surprise that Girardi will hand the ball to BGDP to turn the ship around.

And here is what he said during that start:

I can’t believe he gave up a hit to Ike Davis. Take him out and boo him off the field. He’s no longer BGDP.

      And after the start

Dave Phelps… has lost his BG monicker for now.

What exactly did Phelps do to earn “BG” status back?

  12. Anderson Silva says:

anybody else getting a “temporary unavailable” message on mlb.tv for the yankees game?

  13. Mykey says:

Already an improvement over last start.

  14. Wheels says:

    Good start

  15. Need Pitching & Hitting (but mostly hitting) says:

Overbay in the OF against a LHP makes my head hurt.
So does Jayson Nix batting second.

  16. Dalek Jeter says:

Barely paying attention, but it must be a typo that our two worst hitters in the lineup are hitting 1&2 right?

    • The Real Greg says:

No because David Adams is actually a worse hitter right now than Jayson Nix.

      • Need Pitching & Hitting (but mostly hitting) says:

        Based on?

        • The Real Greg says:

          Nix .243 BA .311 OBP
          Adams .242 BA .266 OBP

Pretty even in batting average but a major differential in OBP.

          • Need Pitching & Hitting (but mostly hitting) says:

            Nix: 613 OPS, 66 wRC+
            Adams: 653 OPS, 73 wRC+

            vs. LHP
            Nix: 300/406/300 101 wRC+
            Adams: 444/474/556 185 wRC+

            • The Real Greg says:

The OPS difference comes from the slugging percentage differential.

It just seems though that Adams has been in a major funk and the league has figured him out.

I would prefer Youkilis in the two hole. But I’m not going to complain about Nix.

    • Get Phelps Up says:

Ichiro has very good numbers against LHP this season, Albeit in a only 62 PAs.

  17. The Real Greg says:

It just seems like Cano has been in a slump forever.

  18. Pasta says:

Oh, let the sun beat down upon my face
    And stars fill my dream
I’m a traveler of both time and space
To be where I have been
To sit with elders of the gentle race
    This world has seldom seen
They talk of days for which they sit and wait
    All will be revealed

Talk in song from tongues of lilting grace
    Sounds caress my ear
And not a word I heard could I relate
    The story was quite clear

  19. Pasta says:

    Bigger puss
    Stewie or Nunez

  20. Pasta says:

    There goes the perfect game

  21. The Real Greg says:

Phelps had a Hughes moment. Can’t put away hitters.

  22. hogsmog says:

Is Giambi getting cheers or boos?

  23. FEED.ME.MORE! says:

My irrational love for Jason Giambi will never die.

“My heart will go on” by Celine Dion plays in the background.

  24. Jersey Joe says:

Looking at the lineup just now…why isn’t David Adams batting 2nd? He needs ABs to get out of his mini-slump, and what makes Nix better than him?

  25. Pasta says:

Pineda sitting at 93 with nasty stuff in a little over a month! Bye bye flyball phil.

    • Jersey Joe says:

If the FO trades Hughes, I wonder what they could get from him. It’s not like the Yankees would get a compensation pick, but Hughes has quite a bit of potential. I wonder if we could send Hughes to the Padres in exchange for Nick Hundley? Maybe?? Doubtful, but that trade has some upside for both teams. Maybe if we toss in a little bit the trade could go through, and Hughes would be able to prove himself in Petco.

    • Mike Axisa says:

      flyball phil

As if Pineda isn’t an extreme fly ball pitcher himself. But at least he’s coming off major shoulder surgery, he’s a lock to pitch better than Hughes!

  26. Wheels says:

    Damn you Swish!

  27. Cy Pettitte says:

@Buccigross Outside the Lines has learned that MLB is preparing to suspend Alex Rodriguez, Ryan Braun and others connected to Biogenesis clinic in Miami

    oh boy….

    • The Real Greg says:

Well forget ARod for the year.

Just dump him and eat the money. See if Adams can develop.

    • Jersey Joe says:

      Nice.

    • Pasta says:

Wont happen they have no evidence its all in Arods safe.

    • Roadgeek Adam says:

I don’t question its truthfulness, but any other sources to back that?

(Just the Wikipedian in me to make sure we have more than one source.)

    • Eddard says:

Good. Both Hal and Cashman went out of their way recently to bash Arod so hopefully they’ll banish him from the team like the WS winning Giants did with Melky.

    • Jimmy McNulty says:

Hopefully they can find a way to void the contract. Or at least get it not to count against the luxury tax. Can they even suspend someone that hasn’t tested positive.

    • Cy Pettitte says:

      T.J. QuinnVerified account
      ?@TJQuinnESPN
BREAKING: MLB will seek to suspend A-Rod, Ryan Braun and about 20 players connected to Miami clinic. Founder Tony Bosch agreed to cooperate.

20 players, wow this is gonna be ugly

      • Roadgeek Adam says:

More ESPN. But I’d like to know the 20 not named Alex Rodriguez and Ryan Braun.

        • Get Phelps Up says:

The players who might ultimately face discipline from MLB include: Rodriguez, Braun, Cabrera, Colon, Grandal, Nelson Cruz, Francisco Cervelli, Jesus Montero, Jhonny Peralta, CesarPuello, Fernando Martinez, Everth Cabrera, Fautini de los Santos, Jordan Norberto, and a number of players who are either identified by code names or whose names appear in other documents not obtained by “Outside the Lines.” All are currently on major-league rosters but for Puello, a top outfield prospect for the New York Mets who is playing in Class AA Binghamton.

  28. Mykey says:

    Poor Vernon.

  29. The Real Greg says:

Now I just want to be sure? What was the connection between Cano and that clinic? I know there was one, but I forget what it was.

  30. Mykey says:

Who decided this hat thing was a good idea?

  31. Roadgeek Adam says:

This Al & Michael thing is hillarious.

  32. Eddard says:

I could watch 3 straight hours of Michael Kay trying on different size hats.

  33. Pasta says:

Nix just ruined the no hitter

  34. Anderson Silva says:

Jayson Nix, still not very good at baseball

  35. Pasta says:

Nix and stewart turds in the Yankee punchbowl.

  36. SDB says:

I feel more comfortable when the ball’s going to Loverbay in RF than when it’s hit towards Nix.

  37. Mykey says:

Impressive move for a righty there, Phelps.

  38. Wheels says:

He had an awesome pick off of Jose Bautista at second base a couple weeks ago too.

  39. SDB says:

    This could be interesting.

Disappointing to see Cervelli’s name at the bottom of the piece among the suspected clients. That could mean a hell of a lot more of Stewart…

  40. Eddard says:

That’s why Overbay is in RF.

  41. Pasta says:

Can MLB SUSPEND nunez too tired of his rehab stories.

  42. The Real Greg says:

Here is a possible list of players facing suspension.

Rodriguez, Braun, Cabrera, Colon, Grandal, Nelson Cruz, Francisco Cervelli, Jesus Montero, Jhonny Peralta, CesarPuello, Fernando Martinez, Everth Cabrera, Fautini de los Santos, Jordan Norberto,

Montero is the interesting one. Wonder if the Yankees kind of suspected him using.

  43. Troll says:

Enrique Iglesias doubles, Jackie Chan Jr. homers, and Daniella Nava single. Bam, bam, bam. I hate the Red Sox more and more with each passing day.

  44. Pasta says:

Going to need a catcher too
    Hughes and Joba for mccanns

  45. SDB says:

Good grief. Stewart can’t fucking run, can he? Second amateur baserunning mistake in the last couple of weeks.

  46. Mykey says:

Nice hit Stewart, but God can he be stupid on the bases.

  47. Wheels says:

    Oh Stewart

  48. The Real Greg says:

Why wasn’t Overbay going home during the rundown?

    • Anderson Silva says:

no chance.. they were watching him all the way. Fuck Stewart and his stupidity.

    • sangreal says:

Because they would’ve just thrown home. There are times when a rundown can help, but that wasn’t one of them

    • Mykey says:

They were doing a good job looking him down during the rundown. I was looking for that. Plus, he’s not the most fleet of foot.

      • trr says:

In fairness, he was reading the height of the throw, thinking it’d go through; but yeah, a runner with better instincts wouldn’t have done thar

  49. Pasta says:

    Stewart =turd in punchbowl

  50. Anderson Silva says:

Even he does something good, he screws it up immediately. What a fucking lost cause.

  51. Eddard says:

Even when Stewart does something good he makes sure to balance it out by doing something stupid.

  52. The Real Greg says:

Actually in the end, it’s just a sacrifice.

    That pays.

  53. Mykey says:

What the hell is going on out there?

  54. The Real Greg says:

Can’t tell if Stewart would have scored on that. But I’m entering FALLACY territory

  55. Eddard says:

4 base hits in the inning and Chris Stewart had to run into the only out.

  56. Troll says:

    Ortiz tripled . . .

Jesus Christ . . . plays for the Red Sox apparently.

  57. Wheels says:

    Tex!!!

  58. Mykey says:

Ahh I love having this Tex back.

  59. The Real Greg says:

    MY GOD

  60. Get Phelps Up says:

    Tex!!!

  61. Need Pitching & Hitting (but mostly hitting) says:

    Tex!!!!!
    Again!!!!
    Hooray for crooked numbers!!!

  62. SDB says:

    TEX! Hell yeah!

  63. Cy Pettitte says:

    that was crushed, nice.

  64. Anderson Silva says:

    fuck yeah TEIX!!!

  65. Leg-End says:

Rampant offense! Is this real life?

  66. Eddard says:

    ANOTHER HR FOR TEIXERA!!!!!

  67. BigBlueAL says:

Safe to say its nice to have Tex back.

  68. nycsportzfan says:

    Ya Texy!!!!!

  69. Anderson Silva says:

now if only they can get Cano, the good hitter, back

  70. Troll says:

Is Cano ever going to come back from this slump? It’d be nice to have a solid trio in the middle of the lineup.

  71. Pasta says:

Everyone call francessa tomorrow and bitch about Cano

  72. Eddard says:

I guess all of that outrage over the 1-2 hitters was all for nothing. Ich and Nix did their jobs. They got on base and Teixera did the damage.

  73. Pasta says:

Oh god please let chris davis and poppy be in the 20.

  74. I'mVernonI'mVernon4U says:

Lyle who? Just kidding, I love Lovebay. But yes Tex!!

  75. The Real Greg says:

Was Tony Pena still on the ’97 Indians?

  76. The Real Greg says:

    LEADOFF WALK

    SMH

  77. Anderson Silva says:

nice 5 pitch walk to open the inning.. Phelps meltdown coming soon

  78. Dan in Athens says:

OTL reporting that MLB is going for 100 games for each guy, claiming the use is one strike and the lie to MLB when asked is the second. Lawsuit time.

    • CountryClub says:

Not if it’s in the CBA.

      • Dan in Athens says:

The lawsuits will be similar to those used by the Williams DTs for the Vikings, only to seek an injunction while the guys seek to avoid the penalties. Those lasted more than 2 years, effectively blocking the discipline in PED cases under the NFL’s CBA. Never underestimate the use of injunctive remedies, even to block arbitration of issues – which of course defeats the purpose of arbitration.

  79. Kramerica Industries says:

This “Red Sox are the best team in the AL” routine has seriously gotten old by now.

  80. Eddard says:

STRIKE EM OUT THROW EM OUT! Brilliantly executed.

  81. Need Pitching & Hitting (but mostly hitting) says:

    Look at Stewie being useful.

  82. nycsportzfan says:

Flaherty is right on the money tonight with his calling of this game. THis is one of the best announced games i’ve heard Flaherty and Leiter call to be honest.

  83. The Real Greg says:

Kay just made a point that I was about to make.

Stewart has been mediocre defensively except when it comes to throwing out base stealers. 50% so far this year.

  84. nycsportzfan says:

    Youk!

  85. Dan in Athens says:

    Stewmendous.

  86. The Real Greg says:

    Interesting,

Not counting Tex or Youk, who has the second highest OBP in this lineup?

    It’s Chris Stewart at .323

    • Eddard says:

Offensively he’s really not that bad for a backup catcher and that’s what he is. I don’t know why people get on him so much as a hitter because he’s about where he should be. Romine is a much worse hitter at this point in his career. It’s defensively and on the bases that Stewart makes too many blunders.

      • Dan in Athens says:

He’s a very good backup, and like most backups, like Nix, he gets exposed as a full time guy. They are both a little above replacement, and not guys you want starting full time. The hatred for both of the them is bizarre. It’s not like the Yankees are paying him 7 million plus or they are playing at replacement level.

        • The Real Greg says:

Well if I read this right, the reasons are:

Nix because Sterling and Waldman are founding members of the Jayson Nix fan club.

Stewart is a bit tougher, but I think it’s because the Yankees traded George Kontos for him and a lot of people liked Kontos.

To add, Kontos has struggled this year for the Giants.

  87. The Real Greg says:

Now normally we would be complaining about not getting extra runs there.

    But not with this offense.

  88. The Real Greg says:

    And another lead off walk.

  89. The Real Greg says:

Might want to get the pen up now

  90. Need Pitching & Hitting (but mostly hitting) says:

    wtf Phelps

  91. Eddard says:

Come on Phelpsy. Get through this inning and get the W. Get a K and a DP.

  92. Pasta says:

Oh god not Logan i dont want this game booned

  93. Pasta says:

Can you suspend montero in AAA thats like a vacation for those guys.

  94. Need Pitching & Hitting (but mostly hitting) says:

    wtp

  95. SDB says:

It is high, it is far… it is caught by Stubbs.

    Thanks, Ma and Pa.

  96. Havok9120 says:

Wow. Nice camera work there YES.

  97. Pasta says:

    You know
If Nix dosent double clutch the throw to first
He has a no hitter going.

  98. Eddard says:

BGDP showed up tonight and gave us everything we could ask for and more. 6 IP of 1 hit ball.

  99. Get Phelps Up says:

This game seems like it’s 8-0.

  100. Troll says:

Sox have led off the last three innings with a homerun. >:(

  101. trr says:

Hoping that ball hit by Adams would go, he could really use a hit

  102. Dan in Athens says:

How can a guy with a minor league career 10 percent walk rate not walk one time in 65 ABs?

  103. Wheels says:

    Don’t screw this up, Joba.

  104. Need Pitching & Hitting (but mostly hitting) says:

Nice bounce back game by Phelps.

  105. The Real Greg says:

3 out of the last 4 innings leadoff walks.

  106. Pasta says:

    Joba can go with Hughes

  107. Pasta says:

At this point id rather see clairborne or kelly.

  108. SDB says:

Hell of a showing from Phelps. Now I just hope the bullpen locks this down.

Meanwhile, WTF is going on in Boston? 14-3, and Iglesias and Jackie Jesus Jr. are apparently crushing it.

  109. teddy says:

    thanks ump

  110. Pasta says:

Hanging slider lucky please get someone up.

  111. The Real Greg says:

Red Sox have scored 15 runs against Texas in 6 innings.

They have 6 doubles, 1 triple, and 4 homers.

  112. Pasta says:

Joba about to give it all back fat loser.

  113. Need Pitching & Hitting (but mostly hitting) says:

    Fuck Joba.

  114. SDB says:

    Goddamnit Joba.

  115. Wheels says:

    Fuck Joba.

  116. Mykey says:

    Thanks Joba.

  117. Eddard says:

Go back on the DL Joba

  118. I'mVernonI'mVernon4U says:

    Godamn it Jobber

  119. Pasta says:

    Fat loser

  120. The Real Greg says:

Cant blame Joba. The slider was down and away and the Indians get a cheapie.

  121. Pasta says:

Id rather they just trade him and let clairborne be the 7 inning guy.

  122. teddy says:

joba pathetic performance, of course yanks have only scored in 1 inning

  123. The Real Greg says:

Look at where the pitch is located. That is not a bad pitch.

  124. Dan in Athens says:

That was Ichiro’s fault. If he was 12 feet tall or had a rocket up his ass he would have caught that.

  125. mustang (The Has Been & Wannabes Bunch 2013) says:

Well at least he can look at speed of pitch and the ball leaving the park at the same time.

    • mustang (The Has Been & Wannabes Bunch 2013) says:

Well at least he can look at the speed of pitch and the ball leaving the park at the same time.

  126. your mom says:

    Fuckin Joba.

  127. Need Pitching & Hitting (but mostly hitting) says:

    Insurance runs please.

  128. The Real Greg says:

Of course only one other guy here is looking at where the pitch was located instead of throwing slurs at him.

  129. I'mVernonI'mVernon4U says:

No runs in his last 13 appearances? Logan is…good??

  130. teddy says:

    hafner not pinch hitting because

  131. Need Pitching & Hitting (but mostly hitting) says:

    lol…Reynolds defense.

  132. SDB says:

Time for Nix to lay down a bunt now.

  133. The Real Greg says:

Now have Nix bunt. Can’t pinch hit because they have no one to play 2nd.

  134. Rolling Doughnut says:

Reynolds forgot Ichiro can still run.

  135. I'mVernonI'mVernon4U says:

    Small ball!

  136. Pasta says:

Yes finally breaks the boech clinic story

  137. Rolling Doughnut says:

From what I gather, Joba’s line is two walks and the inevitable jack. What a surprise.

    • Need Pitching & Hitting (but mostly hitting) says:

      only 1 walk

      • Dan in Athens says:

Again, I hate Joba, but the pitch was on the black and the HR was off the end of the bat and just a good job by a strong major league hitter. The HR was not because Joba screwed up.

        • Rolling Doughnut says:

OK I didn’t see it but he put two guys on and I bet he got away with a hanger or two. Jobber is the BP version of Phil Hughes.

  138. Mykey says:

Oh what a time this would be Cano.

  139. SDB says:

Meanwhile, 17-3 over in Bah-stun, and Stephen Drew, Iglesias and Jackie Jesus Jr. combining for 6 runs, 7 hits and 7 RBI between them. The Rangers should be ashamed.

  140. Rolling Doughnut says:

    Robbie time to get large.

  141. Mykey says:

    Sheesh Robby. Sheesh.

  142. Need Pitching & Hitting (but mostly hitting) says:

    Not cool, Robbie, not cool.

  143. SDB says:

    Ugh, Robbie. Just… ugh.

  144. Rolling Doughnut says:

    Jeez Robbie.

  145. The Real Greg says:

Cano losing money by the second.

  146. your mom says:

    Cano……

  147. Need Pitching & Hitting (but mostly hitting) says:

    Andrew Marchand
    ?@AndrewMarchand
Sr. Yankee official told me team has been informed Cano “is not” in danger of being suspended in Biogenesis scandal

  148. WhittakerWalt says:

    SO much fail.

  149. I'mVernonI'mVernon4U says:

Oof. Can’t squander opportunities like that.

  150. Wheels says:

Welp, it’s now in DRob’s hands.

  151. your mom says:

Fuckin Cano. Pathetic. Pedroia would’ve came thru there.

  152. Bacon swag and cheese says:

Will the real Robinson Cano please stand up?

  153. WhittakerWalt says:

LOL Sterling thinks Cano still hits lefties.

  154. Wheels says:

    And the leadoff walk.

  155. Need Pitching & Hitting (but mostly hitting) says:

    Fucking lead off walks.

  156. The Real Greg says:

This bullpen needs to be whipped for leadoff walks.

  157. WhittakerWalt says:

Could we maybe walk fewer batters?

  158. your mom says:

    Lead-off walk again. Awesome.

  159. Wheels says:

    Unreal.

  160. Eddard says:

Robertson and Joba are going to blow this win for Phelps.

  161. SDB says:

Ugh. Such a good start from Phelps, and now this…

  162. teddy says:

thanks for nothing joba and cano, cleary cano isn’t in pedroia class

  163. The Real Greg says:

They need this win badly. To get a string going. Otherwise the malaise will continue.

  164. your mom says:

    DRob, future closer.

  165. Need Pitching & Hitting (but mostly hitting) says:

    Lucky.
    One more please.

  166. Cy Pettitte says:

    DRob so fucking lucky wow

  167. WhittakerWalt says:

I knew we weren’t going to score that insurance run last inning. That was an easy prediction. Couldn’t have predicted this D-Rob meltdown, though.

  168. Mouse says:

    We were lucky there.

  169. Defensive Indifference says:

    Garbage time. Bro.

  170. Rolling Doughnut says:

The baseball gods have intervened in our favor. They will demand a sacrifice, I suggest ARod

  171. WhittakerWalt says:

Better to be lucky than good, sometimes.

  172. Wheels says:

    Whew

  173. SDB says:

    Quite the Houdini act there.

  174. Cy Pettitte says:

I know Mo is Mo but still insurance run(s) please. They’ve flirted with disaster almost every inning.

  175. The Real Greg says:

They don’t call him Houdini for nothing, I suppose

  176. your mom says:

We need some luck cause there ain’t much offensive skill right now.

  177. Need Pitching & Hitting (but mostly hitting) says:

Cano vs. LHP since last year: 232/297/348, 75 wRC+ in 360 PA

A franchise player really shouldn’t require a platoon partner.

    • The Real Greg says:

I honestly believe that his performance in the Home Run Derby has clouded his mind to want to hit home runs.

Thusly not worried about going the other way against lefties, thus the lower average.

      • WhittakerWalt says:

He’s definitely become pull-happy. I’ve never seen so many weak grounders hit to second from Robbie.

  178. Eddard says:

Girardi told Robertson he got lucky and he needs to start pitching a lot better. Don’t walk the lead off man. Attack them

  179. Need Pitching & Hitting (but mostly hitting) says:

    Whole lotta WTP this game.

  180. Leg-End says:

D-Rob’s face looked like Romine and Gardners after that lightning strike.

  181. WhittakerWalt says:

The Sterling Tease strikes again. Does this guy even know what a homerun looks like?

  182. Roadgeek Adam says:

You’re kidding, four possible home runs for outs thus far. Can we have at least something leave.

  183. your mom says:

Wells is useless at this point. Hope Grandy heals fast.

  184. The Real Greg says:

Rangers are pitching Daniel Murphy in the 8th inning at Fenway

  185. The Real Greg says:

And MIke Carp K’s LOOKING after a Nava Double

  186. your mom says:

    Brignac rules!!!

  187. teddy says:

don’t understand not pitch hitting hafner and moving nix to short and cano to 2nd and lose the dh

  188. Roadgeek Adam says:

Word is Clay Rapada was released by the organization.

  189. Need Pitching & Hitting (but mostly hitting) says:

    Domination.

  190. Wheels says:

    Chill out Avilas.

  191. Get Phelps Up says:

Aviles wasn’t going to do anything against Mo anyway.

  192. I'mVernonI'mVernon4U says:

Closer than it had to be, but its officially a streak!

  193. trr says:

    Mo!
What will we do without him?

  194. your mom says:

    Thank Mo.

  195. ClayDavis says:

Alex Avila is a bit of a punk

  196. Leg-End says:

Aviles wouldn’t have hit Mo with a paddle anyway.

  197. Rolling Doughnut says:

2 in a row. Thanks to Mo.

  198. ClayDavis says:

    Haha Aviles that is.

  199. Musky Gift Basket says:

    ink mo one more year
