Game 101: The Newest Ranger

The Yankees have yet to make a single move leading up to the trade deadline, but their primary competitors for a wildcard spot sure have. The Orioles have added both Scott Feldman and Francisco Rodriguez, and earlier this week the Rangers acquired Matt Garza from the Cubs. The same Matt Garza who will start against the Bombers tonight, his first appearance with Texas.

New York is certainly familiar with Garza given all his time with the Rays. He’s made eleven starts (and one relief appearance) against the Yankees in his career, and they generally hit him hard — 4.48 ERA (~4.85 FIP) in 66.1 innings with eleven homers allowed. All of that damage was done by a much different offense, however. The Yankees have not faced Garza since 2010, and during his time with the Cubs he transformed himself from a four-seamer/slider pitcher to a four-seamer/two-seamer/slider guy. Adding those little running fastballs can make a big difference. Here’s the lineup Garza will face tonight:

  1. CF Brett Gardner
  2. RF Ichiro Suzuki
  3. 2B Robinson Cano
  4. 1B Lyle Overbay
  5. DH Vernon Wells
  6. SS Eduardo Nunez
  7. 3B Brent Lillibridge
  8. LF Melky Mesa
  9. C Chris Stewart

And on the mound for the Yankees is left-hander Andy Pettitte. He’s allowed at least four runs in seven straight starts and has a 5.04 ERA (3.63 FIP) in nine starts since coming off the DL. Opponents have hit .295/.329/.436 against him during that time.

It’s another Texas-hot day in Dallas, but the sky is relatively clear and no rain is expected tonight. The Yankees are missing the rain by a day or two — it’s supposed to pour in Arlington at the end of the week — which is good because having to come back to town for a makeup game would have been a nightmare in the second half. The schedule is rather tight. Anyway, first pitch is scheduled for 8:05pm ET and can be seen on YES. Enjoy.

  • Eddard

I love this no Travis Hafner lineup. Melky deserves to keep playing. That Nuney-Lillibridge combo is a winning one as was proven last night. We just might have a shot against Garza if Andy shows up.

    • 28 this year

If Andy doesn’t make it to the ballpark, I am sure Adam Warren can do better than 4 runs in 6 innings.

    • Shittyshittybangbang

Nuney / Lillibridge a winning combo ?! Whoa, love that optimism brah ! And it would be a “win” combo. But if they pull-it-off one-mo-again, then…, watch out !

    • Robinston Tilapia

Nuney and Lilly World Tour, bitches!

    • OldYanksFan

Dude… how can use use the words ‘Lillibridge’ and ‘winning’ in the same sentence????

  • KD

Yanks may have made a move. A move against A-Rod.

    • handtius

yeah, stonewall your best right handed 3B option, and possibly your best right handed hitter period (for power at least).

  • Dan

How often does Cashman tell the Steinbrenners “I told you so” regarding A-Rod? It has to be at least once a day at this point.

    • https://twitter.com/AngeloInNY Angelo

Yeah, it’s really annoying when ownership of a team tries to make decisions on what players to sign. Let the baseball people do their job. Plain and simple.

      • ExitCashman

You mean like when George wanted to sign David Ortiz after he left the Twins and Cashman told him not to? Or when we had Rafael Soriano to fill in last year when Mo was injured? Both owners and GMs make mistakes.

        • mustang (The Has Beens & Wannabes Bunch 2013)

          ooops

        • Dan

Can’t blame Cashman on not expecting Ortiz to totally naturally become a hall of fame caliber player with zero chemical aids, whatsoever. And if there were any chemical aids, he took them totally by an accident . . .

And he and Giambi would have given the Yanks one of the best fielding First Base tandems in the past 30 years.

And Soriano was overpaid, I would have preferred the draft pick (I’m just glad they were able to get one back). Can’t fault Cashman on wanting to pass when he only ended up being valuable as Mo insurance. They could have found Mo insurance for millions of dollars less.

        • WhittakerWalt

Ortiz was a spare part who was released by the Twins. No one expected him to become this. He was a scrap-heap pickup in the purest sense.
It would be like if Ben Francisco had turned into Ken Griffey Jr. after we signed him.

        • https://twitter.com/AngeloInNY Angelo

Of course, everyone knew Ortiz was going to become one of the best offensive 1B/DH’s in the game. Also, Soriano was overpaid and had a very player friendly contract. The Yankees didn’t sign him because Mo got hurt. Unless they can predict the future.

You’re analysis is invalid. Baseball people make more informed decisions much more often than owners.

    • Anderson Silva

It sure was a bad move, but its not like Cashman has made great moves himself. Look at this team,

      • ExitCashman

        Yoooouuuuuuukkk!!!!!!

  • Crime Dog

Soooo if Arod ever comes back the move is Hafner for Arod right?

  • ExitCashman

Brian Cashman just released a statement on YES.

This problem is easy to identify: Mr. Rodriguez has not been conversing with Alex lately.

  • Dan in Athens

Chicago beat writers confirming that Soriano has agreed to be dealt to certain teams, including the Yankees.

Credit mlbtraderumors.com and the twitter links included.

  • Leg-End

Overbay at cleanup. Make a trade already.

  • trr

Remember when you could just talk BB? About the game? This crap gets old real fast, real fast….

  • nycsportzfan

Ichiro with a nice ripped single.

  • Anderson Silva

1-0 hanging slider, should have swung.. Cano is having some terrible ABs lately. Back to the cold streak

  • nycsportzfan

I knew Cano was gonna completely kill this inning. We finally get guys on in front of him and he has a joke of a at bat. Those are the kinda AB’s that lose ya games.

    • WhittakerWalt

Where have you been the past month when Cano was carrying our offense?

      • Robinston Tilapia

        Remedial grammar.

        • nycsportzfan

No one cares about grammar on a messege board. Mike makes tons of spelling errors weekly. This entire thread has grammar errors all over it.

Look at you for example. Mr. Grammar himself, yet your on here way to much and obviously have no life. Grammars really doing you wonders! Maybe you should worry about getting a job, no??lol

  • Anderson Silva

    Can’t believe Ichiro didn’t go

  • Dalek Jeter

Anybody else having trouble with the sound cutting in and out?

  • nycsportzfan

Nice at bat Overbay, u fucking loser! If you can’t lay off that pitch, then fucking retire! Jesus, these dudes are amateurs.

  • Anderson Silva

Wells up, threat over. It was nice having 2 baserunners.

Really looking forward to having Cano not produce with men on for the next ten years

    • Dan in Athens

Before that AB, Robbie was hitting .333/.440/.595 with RISP this year. What exactly do you expect out of him?

      • WhittakerWalt

Clearly Cano should never make out again, not if he wants to earn that fat paycheck.

      • https://twitter.com/AngeloInNY Angelo

Facts are ineffective on trolls, don’t waste your time.

    • Lukaszek

Because a .333/.440/.595 line with RISP clearly is not producing

  • forensic

    Well, that sucked.

  • http://www.flickr.com/photos/roadgeek Roadgeek Adam

What else is new, the negativity parade is always first to the scene.

Glad to see Gardner pass Mantle. Who is next on that list?

    • Anderson Silva

We should really be positive about our superstar choking with men on base.

      • http://www.flickr.com/photos/roadgeek Roadgeek Adam

        IT’S THE FIRST INNING.

        Get that straight.

      • Dan in Athens

333/.440/.595 with RISP this year for Robbie. 2010 to 2012, .304/.392/.529.

Maybe some actual baseball knowledge would be useful before posting.

        • Robinston Tilapia

          Thank you.

        • https://twitter.com/AngeloInNY Angelo

To be fair, that means Robbie is failing to do anything with runners on base .550 percent of the time, which is bad.

          Glass half empty ;)

          • https://twitter.com/AngeloInNY Angelo

            .560 percent*

        • Mr. Roth

Keep your fancy facts and numbers out of this. Conjecture is the way real men analyze baseball.

        • Lukaszek

Get out of here with your logic. Your common sense is not welcome

  • nycsportzfan

That overbay at bat is just way to fucking annoying! I’ve never seen so many putrid at bats then this season.

Overbay and Wells are a couple of fucking chumps!

  • Anderson Silva

Pettitte is gonna get crushed, again

  • Leg-End

1 pitch, 1 hit. Come on Andy, give yourself an easy start for once.

  • Eddard

Texas did the same thing yesterday, bunting in the 1st inning. We’ve finally met a manager dumber than Girardi.

    • Anderson Silva

bunting against Pettitte is actually smart, he move like he’s 90 years old

  • nycsportzfan

Pettittes season is reminding me alot of Jamie Moyer, when he stuck around to long. Its just batting practice.

  • Rolling Doughnut

    Shit together Andy let’s go.

  • Dalek Jeter

    …hooray.

  • Cy Pettitte

Pettitte is the master of 2 out runs allowed, it’s fucking sickening

  • Anderson Silva

so you are allowed to get runners on and then drive them in. AMAZING!

  • Pseudoyanks

Here’s the statement from Brian Cashman as passed along by the Yankees…

“I heard via a text message this afternoon from Alex Rodriguez that he had retained a doctor to review his medical situation. In media reports, we have since learned that the doctor in question has acknowledged that he did not examine Mr. Rodriguez and that he was not retained to do a comprehensive medical examination of Mr. Rodriguez. Contrary to the Basic Agreement, Mr. Rodriguez did not notify us at any time that he was seeking a second opinion from any doctor with regard to his quad strain.

“As you know, it is the Yankees’ desire to have Alex return to the lineup as soon as possible. And we have done everything to try and accomplish this.

“As early as Friday, July 12, when I suggested to Alex that we move his rehab from Tampa to Triple-A Scranton (at Buffalo), Alex complained for the first time of “tightness” in his quad and therefore refused to consent to the transfer of his assignment. Again, last Sunday, Alex advised that he had stiffness in his quad and should not play on Sunday or Monday. We sent Alex to NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital for an MRI which evidenced a Grade 1 strain.

“As always, we will follow the rules and regulations set forth in the Basic Agreement, and will again re-evaluate Alex in Tampa tomorrow, as our goal is to return him to the lineup as soon as he is medically capable of doing so.”

    • Dalek Jeter

Poor fucking writing. Either Alex or Mr. Rodriguez. Pick one, Yes.

      • Robinston Tilapia

        That does drive me batshit.

      • Dan in Athens

Mr. Cashman’s English professors from Catholic will not be pleased. I’m sure the nuns have been by to whack him across the knuckles for this.

        • Lukaszek

Isn’t he Jewish. I heard somewhere that he was Jewish…

          • Pseudoyanks

Not sure but there are Jews at Catholic Colleges/Universities. There were many at mine.

            • Pseudoyanks

OK, not many, but some. OK maybe a few. Alright actually I knew one.

        • Dalek Jeter

          That would’ve made me angry.

    • forensic

Returning by August 3rd would be much appreciated. Thanks!

  • Leg-End

Time for Pettitte to take a phantom trip to the DL and sort out whatever he needs to sort out.

Let’s see what Pineda has, or just get Phelps up quicker.

  • Improbable Island’s Dirty Midget Whores

It’s all right. I already factored in a bad Pettitte first inning into this game. Go bullpen (he may or may not allow a lot more runs but I doubt he makes it 6 innings).

  • Robinston Tilapia

I just tuned in. I thought it was 8-0 Texas from reading this.

    • http://www.flickr.com/photos/roadgeek Roadgeek Adam

Yeah well, negativity parade here is mad that Cano, Overbay and Wells failed to score at least 1 run and that Andy got some hits.

    • Dalek Jeter

Call Kenny Loggins, Robinston Tilapia, cause you’re in the Danger Zone.

      • Robinston Tilapia

I’ll let Robinston know when I see him.

  • Leg-End

Just looked up Pettitte’s first inning stats for the year, not including tonight.

    7.41 ERA
    .351 BA
    .934 OPS

    Ouch.

    • Dan in Athens

I thought you had found my high school pitching stats. Ouch indeed.

      • http://www.flickr.com/photos/roadgeek Roadgeek Adam

There’s actually a lot of those for pitchers. Maybe not as outrageously high, but a lot of pitchers seem to struggle in the first inning, in the AL and NL.

        • Robinston Tilapia

Was it Glavine or Smoltz who was notorious for bad first innings? I forget.

          • http://www.flickr.com/photos/roadgeek Roadgeek Adam

            Glavine.

    • Shittyshittybangbang

Got it ! Bring him in to start the 2nd inning ! Crisis averted, and ur welcome.

A-Rod and the Yankees have such a weird, resentful relationship, full of lies and public statements of passive-aggression. It reminds me a lot of my parents when I was growing up.

New Park or Totonno’s is always good

      • Robinson Tilapia

There’s a Totonno’s on the island? Same owners as the Coney Island one?

        • Lukaszek

Nah talking about the one on Coney. He mentioned he was on Long Island, so maybe he was in a part that’s not too far away from Bk.

          • Robinson Tilapia

They actually had two other locations in Manhattan for while, so it wasn’t far-fetched that they’d have something on the island. Wasn’t even remotely the same quality, though.

      • Pseudoyanks

Totonno’s looks good but that’s on the wrong Island…Coney. If I make it to Brooklyn, I’ll give it a try. I have an Uncle Totonno (we call him Uncle Tony.)

Totonno’s is definitely one of the originals and still puts out a quality pizza. I believe they’ve re-opened after Sandy damage as well.

I don’t think I’ll get to Brooklyn on this trip, but thanks and if I get there next time, I’ll ask for recos.

Do you know anything about Christie’s Jamaican Patties in Prospect Heights? Is it good enough to go there all the way from Flushing?

            • Robinson Tilapia

I live a block and a half from Christie’s. I love a patty on coco bread from them like nothing else. I don’t consider it a destination in and of itself, though. Maybe plan a day in the park or at the museum as well?

              • Lukaszek

                Ahh ok thanks.

Also just in case anyone is looking for good ethnic food, Queens Boulevard in Sunnyside has a ton of great restaurants, and I really mean a ton. The stretch from 39th to 50th streets legitimately has like fifteen places worth checking out. Arriba Arriba, Salt&Fat, Ariyoshi, Turkish Grill are the ones that immediately come to mind, but there’s a lot more. Most are on the boulevard itself, but a couple are on the side streets just to the north. If I lived in the area I imagine I’d gain a hundred pounds lol

Stewie didn’t get that one, but I liked that he ran as hard as he could. Are you watching, Cano? This is what real baseball players do. If I were picking teams out at the sandlot, I might pick Stewie before Cano, to be honest. Stewie is the type of guy who makes a team a team, makes everyone else play better, does what he can to win. He’s more important to a team’s success than some flashy ‘star’ like Cano.

Having two of those would be nice.

Texas’s pickups are impressive. Not really scared of what the O’s have added. They’ve stuck with the pack, but those teams may look even tougher now.

No, can’t be. I thought they said Nix homered in Minnesota.

      • Former ACE MannyGeee

Holy shit, it was true. Nix on June 25 was the last RHP to hit one out. July 14 was the last homer by this team all together by Ichiro.

        • Robinson Tilapia

That’s what this team is lacking in: professional ballplayers.

    • BigBlueAL

Yankees havent homered since before the All-Star break.

Wow. An entire injury update and not a fucking peep from Ken, Cone or Meredith about ARod.

Way to totally blow your credibility.

And the evil empire extends its tentacles even into the broadcast booth.

I couldn’t be more in support of ARod. Fuck the Yankees (management)

    • Robinson Tilapia

I hate to fuck with your righteous anger, Darren, but they mentioned the doctor earlier tonight.

I wouldn’t expect much out of YES. They’re there to promote the team, just like ESPN is there to promote….

      • Darren

Ok, I take it back! :) But still, it’s kind of pathetic. And I can’t imagine talking about ARod (however briefly) would have a negative effect on promoting the team.

What did they say earlier? Any new news? it would be nice to see him in the lineup. No HRs by an active righthander since Chris Stewart (!!!!) on May 15.

        • Robinson Tilapia

I mean, it wasn’t exactly an attempt to report the news. They showed the statement from Dr. Gross saying he cannot clear him to play, he should not count as a second opinion, etc.

There’s only so much I expect from YES. I expect anything outside of what’s said off-the-cuff during broadcasts to be fluff. Honestly, I’m fine with that. I know what I’m getting.

        • Former ACE MannyGeee

Feinsand just reported the Yankees will re-examine A-Rod tomorrow, if that helps you at all.

          • Robinson Tilapia

Wouldn’t you love to be at that examination?

            • ARod’s Quad

I’ll be there and report back. But I feel pretty good.

              Or do I?……

              MWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!

              • Steel Rod

                WHACK!

          • Darren

Yup, thanks! I expect to see him play Friday.

  • Robinson Tilapia

    This is an exciting game.

    • Dalek Jeter

The sarcasm is strong in this one.

      • Robinson Tilapia

Pseudoyanks might be able to get his Long Island pizza tonight at the rate this is going.

Hell, if this game continues 1-0, Matt might mistakingly show up after the game ends.

        • Pseudoyanks

Nah, I don’t get in until tomorrow. Nothing but that Casserole they call Deep Dish in these parts tonight.

  • Cy Pettitte

    hahaha that was awesome

  • Robinson Tilapia

I fucking love you, Brett. Never get slow.

  • Dalek Jeter

    cue the Yakhety Sax!

  • Wheels

    Nice baserunning Gardy!

  • Dan in Athens

We were one more bounce away from Sportcenter’s Number 1, not top 10.

    • Robinson Tilapia

Yup. One catcher not covering home away….

  • Eddard

YES! We’ve got a shot to score a run thanks to the error. Just put the ball in play!

  • Dan in Athens

    A fly ball? Please?

  • Robinson Tilapia

Ichiro: “b-b-but when Brett did that, he got to third base….”

  • Jake

I think we all know we are not scoring

    • The Real Greg

      Ummmm…

  • Dan in Athens

    Fuck one.

  • OldYanksFan

    PLease ROBBIE!!!!!!!!

  • Robinson Tilapia

I sense an avalanche of negative vibe if Robbie doesn’t drive him in.

  • Robinson Tilapia

Thank you, Robbie. You can all sit down now.

  • Cy Pettitte

lol at pitching to Cano. idiots.

    • Former ACE MannyGeee

Garza’s been in The NL for a minute, he didn’t get the memo.

  • Dalek Jeter

stupid, lazy, unclutch dominican…wait I mean YAY ROBBIE!!!

    • Dan in Athens

Who was the guy in San Fran who got fired for the “brain dead Carribeans swing at pitches in the dirt?”

      • Dalek Jeter

        Haha, I have no idea.

        • Former ACE MannyGeee

“Brain dead Caribbean hitters hacking at slop nightly” ranted Bay Area sports radio talkshow host Larry Krueger about why the San Francisco Giants are playing poorly this year. He also said 70-year-old manager Felipe Alou had a brain “had turned to Cream of Wheat.” For his “racist” and “ageist” comments, he was promptly suspended (although nobody could explain what race “Caribbean” players are). Manager Felipe Alou refused to accept Krueger’s apology and continues to demand that he be fired.

          2005

          • Dalek Jeter

Wow. Just wow. I know we joke here, on the internet, under pseudonyms, in jest…but we don’t get paid to broadcast our ideas to 1000s. Gotta be smarter than that.

      • Lukaszek

        Larry Krueger

  • http://www.penuel-law.com/ Cuso

    Atta boy

  • Lukaszek

Damn, if only Cano hustled that would’ve been a triple

  • Dan in Athens

Why don’t you walk him and go for the DP? Thanks Ron.

    • The Real Greg

Apparently managers named Ron like to do that.

    • your mom

He took a line at the beginning of the inning.

  • Winter

If Brett Gardner had been batting, that would have been a double.

  • Eddard

Tie ballgame! Now they just have to find a way to put another one across and then hand it to Kelley, Drob and Mo. No Boone Logan.

  • Elton Cod

I actually had faith in Cano there. I mean, even if he grounded out for not running hard enough, he would have gotten Gardner home.

  • BigBlueAL

For the love of God no more Overbay at cleanup. Of course the problem is who the hell do you put instead….

    • your mom

      PRONK.

  • Dalek Jeter

That stupid directv commercial leads me to a very existential question: would you go to your own funeral, if you could?

    • Former ACE MannyGeee

Nah. I wouldn’t want to see my mother cry over me. However, I would want to see a copy of the attendance sheet. THAT would intrigue me.

    • Darren

nah, i don’t wanna see a gaggle of crying penthouse pets.

      • Former ACE MannyGeee

And by penthouse, we all assume you meant barnyard.

        • Darren

The pent was superfluous, just regular house pets.

  • http://www.penuel-law.com/ Cuso

Ron Washington: “Cano ain’t that great. It was the right decision. That first baseman dey got don’t necessary…ily…necessily ground into dat double play like you think, you know. We gets Cano out the way we do.”

  • your mom

    Shutdown inning needed here.

    • OldYanksFan

      Wishful thinking

    • your mom

      Well, shit. Fuck AJ!!!!

  • Cy Pettitte

you have gotta be fucking kidding me

  • Eddard

Andy is just awful. A HR allowed to Pierzinski on a 1-2 count? Really?

  • The Real Greg

    FAILURE

  • GardyTime

It’s been a pleasure watching Gardner run the bases this year. Him and Ichiro can really cause havoc on the basepaths together. One bright spot in a crap year do far.

  • Winter

Do the Rangers use the Natural music for their HR?

  • http://www.penuel-law.com/ Cuso

    Bah

  • nsalem

AJ is hitting over .333 now vs Pettitte in over 30ABs. Why is Cone and Singleton surprised?

  • BigBlueAL

I hate blaming the pitching for losing low scoring games when the offense is the main culprit but shit the Yankee pitchers lately sure have had a bad habit of blowing leads and giving up go-ahead runs late in games.

    • Elton Cod

That tends to happen a lot when your team almost never gives you a 2-run lead, rarely gives you a 1-run lead, and usually just ties it at 0-0, 1-1, or 2-2. It’s much easier to do at 1-1 than 6-2.

      • BigBlueAL

Totally agree, thats why I aint mad at Pettitte. Although last night and Sunday the Yankees did blow 3-0 leads.

  • The Real Greg

But wait, the Rangers can’t win 2-1? You can’t do that in the AL

    • Dalek Jeter

I forgot I was watching a little league game and the game ends after 6 innings. OH WAIT.

      • Improbable Island’s Dirty Midget Whores (formerly RRR)

Why do you respond to Greg? His trolling has gotten more and more obvious as the season as gone in. I think he even called Cashman “Cashit” or something once.

        • Robinson Tilapia

The landmines have been very easy to avoid this thread.

    • Need Pitching & Hitting (but mostly hitting)

      Not consistently.
Unless they’re consistently facing the Yankees offense.

  • Former ACE MannyGeee

In fairness to Pierzinski, my fantasy team REALLY needed that home run. You’re welcome Dalek

    • Dalek Jeter

I don’t care about your matchup. It has no effect on me.

      • Former ACE MannyGeee

Truth. This one is for JJ….

  • Frank

Both runs scored with 2 outs. That’s tough to swallow if they wind up losing 2-1.

    • nycsportzfan

Fuck this offense! Seriously, you can’t score more then 1run off a guy making his 1st start for his new team! Garza’s good, but not 1unearned run good..lol Jesus Christ!!

  • Robinson Tilapia

    Time to bail Andy out.

  • Improbable Island’s Dirty Midget Whores (formerly RRR)

This team is so damn frustrating.

  • Former ACE MannyGeee

When did Vernon Wells become Loverbay on the base paths?

  • your mom

Can’t be mad at Pettitte. 2 runs in 6 innings is good. We all know the offense is to blame here. They’d be getting shutout of it weren’t for Garza’s error.

  • DavidAdamsIsGod

Coney talks about that ’95 Game 5 a TON.

You can tell it bothers him to this day.

    • BigBlueAL

When MLBN did their 20 greatest games that game was one of them. Piniella and Cone were the people interviewed. Coney really was great when talking about the game and how much to this day it still haunts him. The fact it was Mattingly’s last game I think adds to the pain of that loss.

    • Dan in Athens

Which is why Yankee fans love him. He cared a ton.

I proudly wear my 36 jersey to all games.

  • BigBlueAL

Sure would be nice to have Soriano and Grandy following Cano in the lineup instead of freaking Overbay and Wells.

    • The Real Greg

      Blame the Cubs

      • your mom

Blame Cashman. Blame Girardi. Blame Arod.

        • Former ACE MannyGeee

Blame it on Rio. Blame it on the rain

          Blame it on de A-a-a-a-a-alkahawl…

  • Former ACE MannyGeee

This 1st pitch shit just reeks of desperation

    • WhittakerWalt

      Bad hitters have short ABs.

  • Former ACE MannyGeee

Nice, another error leads to another base runner. And that’s an ultra rare error on Beltre.

  • your mom

    Stupid first pitch swinging.

  • Robinson Tilapia

They actually do score runs some days. Really.

  • BigBlueAL

Axisa’s favorite Girardi move, leaving the SP out there too long and allowing him to allow a couple of baserunners before removing him.

    • Robinson Tilapia

That’s probably every blogger’s favorite manager move.

  • Felipe Menace

How is Mitch Williams allowed to speak on live television?

  • your mom

Bad job there letting the 8th and 9th batter get on board. Gotta K the side and rally against Cotts in the 8th. Piece of cake.

  • Eddard

I said yesterday they have to take that game to avoid being swept and it appears that will be the case. Andy and Girardi blew it again. Hiroki may throw up goose eggs for 9 innings tomorrow but Holland will throw them up for 10 and they’ll lose 1-0.

    • Winter

Care to put a wager on that outcome?

      • Dalek Jeter

No no no no no. Don’t get him riled up. He’s baby crazy.

        • Former ACE MannyGeee

I’ve seen that movie and, spoiler alert, it ends with a closet full of my suits on fire!

          • Winter

I wish you’d been wearing one.

            • Dalek Jeter

WHO WOULD WEAR AN ON FIRE SUIT?!

              • Winter

                Cosplay enthusiasts!

  • Frank

Anyone see Tim Hudson’s injury? Pretty gruesome.

    • Felipe Menace

It looked awful, his entire ankle from where the top of his timberlands woulda been bent. Ouch!

    • Dan in Athens

I’m in GA (not Greece). No one wants to say it, but everyone is thinking that his career is over.

  • Former ACE MannyGeee

Texas announcers insist on calling Nelson Cruz ‘Nellie’… It’s driving me nutso

    • your mom

And it’s even worse when you hate the guy too.

  • Cy Pettitte

stuff wise, this is one of the worst outings I’ve see for Kelley. looks like he has nothing

    • Cy Pettitte

and he gets out of it anyway

  • handtius

kelly, the new mini robertson. not as good, but damn can he get out of some shit.

  • your mom

Wow no K that inning for Kelley? I’m really starting to like him a lot. What a pickup by Cashman.

  • Dan in Athens

So Kelley becomes DRob next year, DRob closes. Assuming Arod eats a big suspension, and the Yanks pay Soriano’s salary this year more than next, 189 may work.

Also, I hate this annoying girl in the wind power commercials.

  • Aníbal Violence

I blame A-Rod for the spider I just killed in my laundry room.

  • Former ACE MannyGeee

Pronk on the inevitable pinch hit pants shitting. At least he grounded out sharply…

  • Cy Pettitte

can Joe Nathan blow 2 saves in 2 days? (assuming he’s available)

  • your mom

Should have just let Steawart hit.

  • Sad stat

Is Pronk really 2 for his last 47????!!

    • OldYanksFan

      No, but last 28 days: .161 .242 .214 .456

  • Eddard

They could have sent up a tree stump and it would have had a better chance of getting on base than Hafner did there.

  • your mom

If Nathan is not available who’s closing? Scheppers has got some serious heat.

  • nycsportzfan

So annoying to here Garza get standing ovation for shutting down this double AA lineup.

    • your mom

Sssshhhhhhhh. The crowd doesn’t know that.

      • nycsportzfan

        true, but annoying still.

    • Former ACE MannyGeee

It’s a law, like water or dinosaurs.

  • Winter

Is there a reason they left Garza in to pitch to Hafner and then brought in the lefty? I mean, it worked for them, but still.

  • your mom

    Ichiro hit a HR please.

  • Dan in Athens

    No Nathan tonight.

  • your mom

Please don’t tell me Joba is pitching.

    • Former ACE MannyGeee

He’s like a homeless, ethnic Santa Claus

  • Cy Pettitte

wow Nathan for a 3rd straight night?

    • Former ACE MannyGeee

Which excites the shit out of me

  • Winter

So much for Nathan not being available…

  • Eddard

Just get it back around to Nuney and he’ll take care of Nathan. Just get it to Nuney.

  • The Real Greg

Once again, I request that Axisa goes Shakespearean when describing the offense tonight.

    • Dalek Jeter

I’m sorry, your authority isn’t recognized in Fort Kickass.

  • Dan in Athens

Coney with an awesome gambling reference.

  • Cy Pettitte

Kelley’s stuff hasn’t been great so Joe leaves him in for a 2nd inning to throw 40 pitches. lol.

    • The Real Greg

What are you talking about? Have you seen Kelley’s numbers?

      • Cy Pettitte

tonight. he does not have his good stuff tonight, it was pretty obvious in the previous inning.

      • Rolling Doughnut

Kelley’s stuff was not great tonight. That’s the point I think.

    • your mom

Yeah I didn’t understand leaving him in for another inning.

  • your mom

    Nathan is pitching? Me likey.

  • trr

Might as well be 13 -1

    • Winter

Yeah, because what are the odds of the Yankees scoring two runs of Joe Nathan?

      • your mom

Despite our success against him, the odds are still shitty.

      • Improbable Island’s Dirty Midget Whores (formerly RRR)

Pretty damn low, considering their offense sucks, the odds of them doing what they did last night is slim in any case, and it was dependent on an incredibly lucky wild pitch.

Anything CAN happen, but it’s just about over.

        • OldYanksFan

          96.36552% chance of being over. That’s +/- 0.0001%

          • Now Batting

Definitely higher than that. Your number encompasses all games ever played, so an average major league offense.

      • trr

        Let’s watch ‘n’ see

  • nycsportzfan

Stop talking about Soriano, and get em! Jesus! Before this seasons just about toats, please?

  • Dalek Jeter

Brent certainly has a flair for the dramatic play.

  • BigBlueAL

Since returning from the All-Star break Yankees have been outhomered 8-0. Playing in Fenway and Arlington. Just wow.

    • trr

      Just ow

      • Winter

        Just how?

  • Eddard

If Eduardo Nuney gets a chance to hit we’re going to win this ballgame, but I can just see Robbie, Lyle and Vernon going down without much of a fight.

  • OldYanksFan

No reason to run hard there….

  • trr

    Lefty/Lefty, no fair

  • Eddard

They’re only going to let Nathan pitch against Wells so he can get the save but not face the lefties.

    • your mom

He can’t get the save. Good job swinging the bat Overbay.

      • Winter

I’m pretty sure if he get’s Vernon Wells out, it’s a save. And let’s face it, who couldn’t get Vernon Wells out?

        • Winter

          Joe Nathan, apparently.

      • trr

        That is a save situation

  • Winter

My internet died, how the fuck are there two outs already?

    • trr

’twas our offense that died, Winter

  • Lukaszek

It feels as if though the Yankees haven’t had a homerun for what seems like weeks now, oh, wait…

  • your mom

How did Nathan get the save getting one out with a two run lead?

    • trr

      That’s the rule, Mom

    • forensic

The tying run was on deck when he came in.

  • Dan in Athens

    That sucked.
