Heyman: Yankees have not yet called about Kendrys Morales

By

Via Jon Heyman: The Yankees have not yet called the Mariners and asked about the availability of Kendrys Morales. Seattle is hesitant to become a seller though, and GM Jack Zduriencik told Heyman he is “not shopping anyone.”

Morales, 30, is hitting .279/.339/.462 (126 wRC+) with 13 homers in 363 plate appearances this year. He is owed roughly $2.5M through the end of the season and will become a free agent this winter. Morales makes an awful lot of sense for the Yankees, who could use his switch-hitting bat in the middle of the lineup to both balance things out and break-up the lefties. He could also play first base, where Lyle Overbay has been okay, or DH, where Travis Hafner has been awful since May.

Good because they should be selling.

Yeah, 2 games back of the Second Wild Card slot, starting lineup finally getting healthy, THAT’S when you sell.

  4. Don’t understand why they don’t want to be sellers…Do they really think they are going to be better than Oakland or Texas, or anyone in the AL East for the final wild card spot? Fuck Jack Z. #bitchesgonnabitch

I really don’t believe any reports about who is or isn’t calling who unless a trade is completed or pending physicals, because these reporters aren’t in the room when calls are/aren’t made and GMs can tell them anything and then turn around and do the opposite. I mean why would it benefit Jack Z to say that people are available publically?

Wow I really hope that that’s just trying to drive up prices because not selling when you’re 12 games out of a playoff spot and have the 4th worst record in the AL is really dumb, even by Jack Z’s standards.

My thoughts are Jack Z will want something substantial for Morales, is that worth it for a rental? Hal won’t spend the money to resign him, not with Teixeira still around.
