Update: Gardner leaves game with strained left oblique

Yankees rally late for win over Orioles but lose Gardner to injury

11:50pm: Gardner will have an MRI in New York tomorrow and is out at least a few days. I wonder if they’ll be able to keep him around as a pinch-runner/defensive specialist if it’s not too severe.

9:18pm: Gardner has a left oblique strain, the Yankees announced. That’s bad, oblique injuries can last for several weeks and even months if they’re severe enough. Gardner has been very good this year and even though the lineup is deeper and more powerful, he set the tone from the leadoff spot, and then you have his defense on top of that. Big, big loss.

8:40pm: Brett Gardner left tonight’s game for an unknown reason. He struck out looking in the top of the first and was replaced in center field in the bottom half of the inning Very weird. Maybe he was ejected for arguing balls and strikes? I hope so, an injury would be bad. Stay tuned.

Ejected for having a dirty look on his face – that’s what I’m sticking with.

Curry is saying he grabbed at his oblique on the check swing.

MLB says left oblique sustained swinging during 1st AB

Dammit. Awful injury that can linger. It’s like the dreaded high-ankle sprain in football.

Sterling and Waldman just reported left oblique strain.

    Are we cursed?

That’s a swift kick in the nuts. I’d complain about the timing, but was there really a “good” time this season to have that happen to Brett?

    Crap. Corn-riddled crap.

the injuries have been so ridiculous that making the play-in game would be comparable to going 125-50 in 1998

  • Brian Strawman

You forgot to write “injuries are a part of baseball” and “nobody is going to feel sorry for the Yankees.”

  • Darren

I wonder if he’ll be able to be a defensive replacement and/pr pinch runner before he’s ready to swing.

  • Mickey Scheister

I think Ichiro has better range in CF than Grandy. Doubtful we’ll see him there.

wouldn’t running on a bad oblique be a very bad idea?

I noticed are Disabled list and Orioles before the game tonight and it was crazy how longer ares was and that didn’t include Gardy..

What a huge loss Gardner would be! In this lineup, hes a great table setter and speed demon. This one could hurt alot.

Didn’t nunez take forever to come back from oblique?
