This post has been up for five hours with no comments and I don’t want Mike to feel like his late work has gone to waste, so…

I admit this might be the first time I’ve ever seen James Pazos’ name, which might be kind of sad considering this is apparently the second season he’s been in the Yankees’ minors.

    • Tim B

Agreed. Never heard of this guy before. Maybe they are converting Austin to a 1Bman. Maybe he could be Teixeira’s future replacement. Regardless he had a good game according to the numbers Mike posted.

    • Robinson Tilapia

Probably a guy Mike keeps off the DOTF posts due to his status.

Five hours and no comments? Well, no pitchers means no wayne.

  • SRB

Maybe Austin @ 1B will work- However, I watched him a few times this year and he had a laser for an arm in rightfield- Hate to waste that

    • TheEvilUmpire

I think his stint at 1B is just a sign of a minor leaguer developing more versatility as he approaches the majors. I’m not reading too much into it.

      • Preston

I think it has everything to do with the roster make-up of the team. There are a lot of other OFers on the team and Austin has experience on the infield. As much as you’d like him to be getting reps in the OF getting the AB’s after the missed time is much more important.

  • Govin

I’m guessing Tyler’s going to do well in Arizona . I’m very happy about the hitters the Yankees sent down there this year. All three have a chance to really thrive in this leAgue. With the pitchers, I didn’t even know must of them existed ,but who knows maybe there’s a diamond in the rough somewhere.

  • Laz

Maybe they have Austin at 1B for selfish reasons, getting him more at bats. The only other 1B on the team is Villalona, who has fallen off a cliff since being a top prospect 4-5 years ago.

    • I’m One

who has fallen off a cliff since being a top prospect 4-5 years ago.

Wait … that can’t be. He’s not with the Yankees, I checked. Based on what I read here almost daily, only Yankee prosepects fall off the cliff after being highly rated.

      • Robinson Tilapia

When the Yanks sign him as AAA insurance, they’ll be accused of dumpster diving. When the guy then hits .330 in AAA, they’ll be accused of not knowing what they’re doing because they’re keeping him down in AAA. When they then bring him up…..

        • I’m a looser baby so why don’t you kill me?

Come on man, you can’t leave me hanging like that!

          • W.B. Mason Williams

            He’ll get injured, naturally.

        • RetroRob

          It’s been four hours, man.

We’re all out our computers clicking refresh, refresh, refresh, hoping for the sentence to be completed!

  • Conor in China

Maybe it’s to ensure that he gets more plate appearances. There are probably more teams sending outfielders and third baseman than first baseman. I don’t know that for sure, it’s just that first baseman aren’t usually considered prospects.

Anyway, hopefully he and the other farm hands have great seasons there.

    • JohnnyC

“first baseman aren’t usually considered prospects”

Unless, of course, they have a Smoak-type bat. Or are in the Red Sox organization.

  • Pseudoyanks

How about some video? I want to see if Fat Mason can run.

  • John C

If Mason W. doesn’t hit better in this league, I’d start to be concerned

    • Bo Knows

Don’t see why, yes it’s environment is conducive for offense, but the pitchers while most aren’t top pinnacle prospects are still a bunch of guys that are AA or AAA caliber guys than would still be better than most of the guys Williams had seen in A+.

Also the fact that Williams turns into an ichiro like slasher during game situations instead of actually following through like he does in BP isn’t going to be good for hitting line drives, or scalders.

      • Samuel

        This.

At this point in his games, Williams is such a wussy type hitter. Slap, slap, no use of legs in driving the ball. Doesn’t pull a thing.

  • RetroRob

Be interesting to see where Austin starts in 2014. His mediocre numbers at AA suggest a return there for more seasoning, but the Yankees know more about his health and other issues, so a strong showing the AFL and in ST might mean a bump to AAA.

  • Samuel

Austin is playing first base to enhance his versatility. He is an intelligent baseball player, who could gain valuable experience at a new position. I wouldn’t put it past the organization to also play him a little at third base next spring.

And Austin will always be one of those emergency backup catchers.

With 12 and sometimes 13 man pitching staffs in baseball, teams NEED more versatility.

    Austin will be pretty good.
