Wednesday Night Open Thread

I’m a little busy tonight, so this will have to be quick. Here is your thread for the night, with World Series Game One representing the big event. Adam Wainwright and Jon Lester is your pitching matchup (8pm ET on FOX). Talk about that game or anything else here. Enjoy.

Am I the only one who is angrier that the Boston fans get to enjoy a WS than that the specific Boston players get to play in one? Fans have less class than an abandoned schoolhouse.

    • UncleArgyle says:

I hear ya. Some (most) Sox fans are just too annoying. I’m pulling hard for the Cards

    • Reuben Sierra's Chains says:

Sox fans are the WORST!! Their inferiority complex when it comes to the Yankees is really bad. Yet of course they won’t admit it.

Their team is in the W.S. and all many of them can talk about is how bad the Yanks were instead of how good of a season their own team had. Pathetic Shitheads.

    • Robinson Tilapia says:

There are about as many annoying Sox fans as there are annoying Yankee fans. Stick to the ones who gave a shit long before 2004, or the ones who wouldn’t otherwise be assholes no matter who they were rooting for.

I don’t care who wins. The baseball season long ended for me. If anything, I’d be happy if my friends who are Sox fans were happy, but that’s not to be confused with actually rooting for them.

      • WhittakerWalt says:

Intellectually, I know that’s true. But right now I just feel like every Sox fan is as annoying as Psycho Trish.

  2. JohnnyC says:

No worries. Red Sox Nation will not enjoy their WS loss to the Cards. Fortunately they will not bring the “World Series Cup” back to Bahston. At least Bloomberg knew his trophies from his cups.

  3. Pinkie Pie says:

This is a terrific World Series matchup between two historic teams that have both had seasons as exciting as they were dominant. It’s a real shame that I can’t enjoy it because one of those teams happens to be the Red Sox.

  4. Alkaline says:

    Soo…how’s everyone doing?

  5. CashmanNinja says:

I’m cheering hardcore for St. Louis. I simply hate the Red Sox. Even if I weren’t a Yankee fan I would still despise that team. Just everything about them ticks me off and I absolutely cannot stand how they’ve had (and have) some of the most prolific power hitters in modern history who were linked to roids, yet you NEVER hear about it. Manny was caught several times and notice how Ortiz is always in the discussion. I get that A-Rod cheated (several times), but if it’s wrong for 1 then it is wrong for all. That’s what annoys me about their fans. They simply brush that all aside, but their hate on A-Rod and Andy is unreal.

  6. Mike Myers says:

Shouldn’t beltrans giant mole count as the 10th batter?

  7. Reuben Sierra's Chains says:

The key is to get at least one of these 2 at Fenway. I think the Cards can win all 3 back home so that would wrap this crap up in 5 games.

  8. Need Pitching & Hitting says:

    horrible call

  9. nycsportzfan says:

    Waignwright fucking blows.

  10. Wheels says:

    What a horrible error.

  11. nycsportzfan says:

So you got Light hitting kozma making a error, and light hitting Robinson bobbles the ball in CF probably allowing Ortiz to score. Good moves matheny.

  12. SDB says:

I can’t fucking stand Mike Napoli.

  13. Joey C says:

They should take Kozma out behind the stadium after the game and shoot him. Cards desperately needed to win game one. This could easily cost them the series.

  14. nycsportzfan says:

This sucks. We don’t even know if St Louis will score 3runs. I wanted to see a good game, and now St Louis is gonna be behind most, if not all of the game.

  15. The Ghost of Eddard says:

These two clubs really offer the blueprint for success that the Yankees should follow. People always give the excuse that the Yankees can’t draft and develop because they’re always picking at the bottom of the draft. Well, so have the Sox and the Cardinals for the past decade.

The Cardinals show that you don’t have to give into a superstar’s contract demands. Let him walk and now you’re in the WS without that albatross contract. The Sox show that you can sign smart FA pieces to mesh with your farm talent. They signed Napoli, Victorino, Gomes, we signed Wells, Overbay and Hafner. It’s no shock that the Sox destroyed us this season.

    • Cool Lester Smooth says:

The Red Sox made a once in a lifetime salary dump and had a protected pick this year, so they not only had more than enough money to sign Napoli, Victorino and Gomes, they didn’t have to give up anything to do it.

  16. Cool Lester Smooth says:

    Ugh, I’m torn.

On the one hand: I’ve lived in Beantown for 15 years and we could really use a win right now.

On the other hand: Fuck the Red Sox.

    Eh, who am I kidding?

    Go Cards!

  17. nycsportzfan says:

The Cards look completely unraveled..lol Its kinda funny to watch a WS, that is supposed to be the best of the best, have a team look so moronic through a 1inning so far..

  18. nycsportzfan says:

You guys see the news of Yanks showing interest in Shin Soo Choo?

    • Robinson Tilapia says:

      Casting a wide net.

I feel the same way I do about Mike’s post on Maholm/Drew yesterday. This isn’t the way they were talking last offseason. That’s mighty encouraging.

      • SDB says:

Yeah, Choo’s not a guy I really want to see on the roster, but I like that they’re actually looking at options other than just waiting for bargains from the basement.

  19. ClayDavis says:

Well Joe David did fail a drug test a few seasons ago. Seems fairly obvious he went back on the juice……(Joe Buck grabs and puts his hand over the mic) Shh come on Tim you know there is a directive from Selig to never bring that up. Ever.

  20. HateMclouth (formerly I'mVernon) says:

Why exactly has Mike fucking Napoli turned into Babe Ruth? It feels like every time the Sox scores its because of him. Really annoying. Beard doesn’t help.

  21. nycsportzfan says:

Kozma boots another one..lol The cards would be even more awesome if they didn’t always seem to have some light hitting defensive player who screws them. It seems they always got Kozmas, and Ryans, and Robinsons, and Shumakers…etc, who end up killing them at some point.

This Kozma dude dosen’t even look like a ML player. Looks like my downstairs neighbor, the garbage man..lol

  22. nycsportzfan says:

Waignwright smiling after that dropped pop up and how devestating its turning out to be, makes me sick. What a clown he is!

  23. SDB says:

Is Kozma worse than Eduardo Scissorhands?

  24. SDB says:

    Jesus christ.

Is this team the Astros in disguise?

  25. nycsportzfan says:

These guys have the best defensive team in baseball???lol

  26. lee says:

hmmmm…. cardinals rank dead last in pretty much every defensive metric. now i see why.

  27. Brian L says:

    Wainwright getting rocked!!!!!!!

  28. nycsportzfan says:

Baseball players are wuss’s. How in the world is Beltran even sore after that? All he did is walk back to a padded wall and reach his glove over and make a catch..lol Jesus!

  29. UncleArgyle says:

Ah Fenway Park, where the opposition always seems to forget how to play baseball. It’s unreal the amount of stupid errors the Sox beneift from.

  30. Dars says:

Here is a conspiracy theory: Boston will win no matter what because they want to give the city something to lift them up after the bombing events. My own opinion obviously I do not have proof other than the bizarre circumstances.

No team that I can remember was so dominated in a postseason as the Tigers dominated the Red Sox in the ALCS.
Game 2, Tigers ahead 5-1 with the bases loaded, the Red Sox about to be down 0-2 and likely in a deep hole and Joaquin Benoit throws a fastball for the first pitch, right exactly where Ortiz likes it and hits a grand slam that ties the game. Any Little Leaguer knows you pitch around the other team’s best hitter in that situation. A walk has you still up 5-2 and you let the batter hit what you want not what he likes. Boston was done and by a very bizarre play that goes against baseball logic wins in cardiac fashion.

Game 6, Tigers up and dominating and the Red Sox with the thought of facing Verlander in a game 7. A clear strike to Bogaerts is called a ball and he is allowed a walk, then a likely double play booted by the magician SS the Tigers got from the Red Sox a couple of months before and who will get a ring anyway and then 3 straight curveballs to a player who was not even hitting his weight until he hits the third one out for another grand slam. Little league pitchers know you never throw the same pitch twice not to say three times, needless to say a set-up man in a crucial game.

I am not buying into this Red Sox magical season. Make your own opinion but I stopped believing in professional sports a long time ago. I certainly do not trust the guy who allowed steroids to taint the sport and years later comes back hunting them with a vengeance……

  31. nycsportzfan says:

Fuck you David Freese! How did he miss that 1-0 92mph fastball belt high right down broadway?

  32. Pat D says:

    Fuck this couch.

  33. Jimmy says:

Keep your filthy paws off of that couch!

  34. Pinkie Pie says:

5-0 Red Sox after 5 innings? Really, Cardinals? I was right not to watch this game.

  35. WhittakerWalt says:

I may not be able to watch the rest of this series.

  36. Wheels says:

    Haha, Dumpster blows the shutout.

  37. 461deep says:

Two good evenly matched teams but Cards in a meltdown tonight. Sox needed win tonight to beat Wainwright gives them much better chance to win series. One side note, praised Cardinals pen did not impress that much and need to do better later inclose games. Beltran injury could affect his swing even if he plays. Clay if cannot be effective in game 4 could spell doom. Kid carries big load for Cards tomorrow.
Bogaerts looks better as he gets ABs under his belt is ripe for a breakout game soon. Same for Craig who needed this game to shake off effects of layoff. Just a guess but tomorrows winner will win series in as Cards won’t 4 of 5 and Sox will only need 1 win in St. Louis.
