Injury Updates: Sabathia, Beltran, Kelley

5/30-6/1 Series Preview: Minnesota Twins
Game 53: Back Home

The Yankees open their three-game series with the Twins in a few hours, but first here are some more injury updates courtesy of Bryan Hoch, Chad Jennings, and Jeff Roberts:

  • Carlos Beltran (elbow) took batting practice on the field today and felt no discomfort. It seems increasingly likely he will avoid surgery. Beltran will need to play in some minor league rehab games before rejoining the team. He won’t do anything more than DH at first.
  • Shawn Kelley (back) threw his first bullpen session since hitting the disabled list today and everything went fine. He’ll need a minor league rehab outing or two before rejoining the club.
  • CC Sabathia (knee) will visit the doctor today and they’ll determine the next step in his rehab process. Joe Girardi said everything is going well so far.

Once again, reasonably good news. Hoping things continue along the same path till they’re fully healthy and contributing positively to the team’s win total (hopefully for the remainder of the season).

These injury updates are looking like the anti-2013. Every injury last year seemed to not improve and/or be season-ending. So let’s hope to avoid that, and hopefully I didn’t just jinx every injured Yankee from here on out.

  • Yangeddard Solarte

Carlos, Kelley and Pineda will be huge boosts to the ballclub. CC is doing just fine on the DL. Whitley and BGDP are the 4 and 5 now.

    • ron

Agree. Forgot CC was on the team. I hope he gains back the 50 pounds that left with his velocity.

      • vin

        That’ll help his knee problems.

  • TWTR

They are saying 50-50 with Beltran, which to me means, no one knows.

  • Jonathan

I was really hoping for Beltran/Pineda/Kelley joining the team for the road trip in KC (which is the only place I get to see them every year) so 2/3 wouldn’t be bad. Shouldn’t take a long rehab assignment if there aren’t any setbacks…but there’s the real issue.

for all i care, sabathia should just stay on the damn permanent disabled list.
