Update: Mark Teixeira gets three stitches in pinkie, x-rays negative

By

10:50: X- rays came back negative and Teixeira received three stitches in his pinkie. Not too bad.

10:29pm: Teixeira is getting stitches and will likely go for x-rays, Joe Girardi announced. He will definitely not play tomorrow and it’s unclear what will happen after that.

10:16pm: Mark Teixeira left tonight’s game after either having his left hand stepped on or his fingers bent back (or both) while sliding into home plate in the bottom of the eighth. YES showed him holding a towel over his fingers, so hopefully it’s nothing more than a cut. Either way, the Yankees can’t really afford to lose their best power hitter and only real first baseman. Stay tuned for updates.

Actually, Gardner is the best power hitter on this team. He’s a beast.

  • Septhinox

This dude would tear an acl walking his dog.

    • n0exit

You know, that’s not really a freak injury, I’m sire many people have injured their knee walking their dog.

  • Farewell Mo

Tex is turning into Nick Johnson right before our eyes.

    • WhittakerWalt

      OMG

    • Too_Many_Idiots

      So his OBP is increasing?

    • WhittakerWalt

      With 300 more homeruns.

  • Yankee Fan 1

I love Tex, I really do. But these injuries are getting frustrating.

  • forensic

    Stitches, out tomorrow.

Amputation hasn’t been ruled out yet.

  • RhapsodyInBlue

I guess Tex is done for the season.

    • gordo

great picture. my son’s middle name is gehrig

  • TWTR

Tex needs to speak to some hockey players.

  • Slu76

Jesus people – stop jumping to conclusions. It almost seems like people want him to get hurt for an extended period of time around here. Fact is that while he has been banged up a bunch this year, he hasn’t missed a big chunk of time yet, has played through a lot of injuries and has been pretty productive coming off major wrist surgery. Let’s wait until the medicals come back before we bury him for the season.

    • Havok9120

Yeah, I get the frustration at all the injuries and Tex’s general brittleness, but we should probably at least wait until we know it isn’t just a cut before we call the mortician.

I hope Forensic wasn’t the only one being sarcastic.

    • Guest

Damn, and I was just getting set to play…

  • Kentucky Bomber

It just never stops, even after what should be a tremendously satisfying win over a big time pitcher. This collection of geriatrics and dust bin refugees is wearing me out.

    • Too_Many_Idiots

Because young players never get stitches.

      • n0exit

They also never get injured sliding into home.

  • Marcus Kelligrew

I hope Tex will be OK. he can’t seem to carch a break.

  • Linden Walker

What the hell is Girardi thinking? This is the second time he’s moved Headley to first and put Prado at third. This makes NO sense. He is moving our best defensive infielder out of position and putting an inferior defensive player in his spot. So, he’s weakening two spots for absolutely no reason. Why not just put Prado at first? Headley had 2 innings total of 1B time before this week and Prado has 56 games of career experience at 1B. I don’t understand why he keeps doing it, and it’s an even worse move on a night like tonight where he did it for the 9th inning. I don’t get why he does this, and it’s bugging the crap out of me. What’s the logic here? Can anyone explain it?

    • Slu

      A couple of guesses:

      1. Moving Prado out of RF does improve the OF defense.
      2. If the game gets to extra innings, would you rather have Ichiro, Prado and Headley in the lineup or Prado, Headley and Ryan?

      • forensic

Prado has more experience at 1B than Headley. They’re downgrading and playing out of position at more places putting Prado at 3B and Headley at 1B.

        • Slu

I’m not saying it’s right, I am just trying to figure out Joe’s logic. And you are right – I did ignore the obvious solution of just moving Prado to first and bringing in Ichiro to play right.

          • Chip

Also, Martin grades out as an above average third baseman so it probably isn’t a huge difference and you get a solid glove over at first as well.

            • n0exit

Exactly, it’s about the cumulative effect of all the moves. Two small downgrades is better than one huge downgrade.

    • n0exit

There metrics probably say that headly plays a better first than Prado and Prado plays a better third than first therefore the decrease at third and first combined is less than the decrease at first if Prado play first. Prado must really suck at first.

      • forensic

There aren’t any metrics for Headley at 1B since he’s played a grand total of 3 innings there in his entire career before the Yankees. At least Prado has a few hundred innings there.

        • n0exit

Okay well they probably looked at Prado stinking up first really bad and thought headly would be a better option, especially if Prado plays a half decent third. The point is they have more info than us. Its not entirely inconceivable that this is the best alignment.

    • AskMeAboutMyCandyBars

      The binder knows all.

    • Walter E. Kurtz

It makes me want to pull my teeth out….. Love for a reporter to ask THAT one…….

  • Keyser Soze

But he needs that pinky to hold his juice glass daintily.

    • vicki

juice?? this is how rumors get started.

      • Keyser Soze

I don’t know what this means. I was refering to his juice press comercials.

  • Jorge Steinbrenner

Let me see….how do we blame Tex’s hand getting stepped on on Tex himself?

    • n0exit

I’m getting a little lightheaded just thinking about it.

    • WhittakerWalt

He’ll do everything he can to play through it, then reinjure it and get called a pussy. Because Mick Taylor thinks he’s “soft.”

      • Too_Many_Idiots

And then complain because we didn’t sign the washed-up player du jour last winter.

        • WhittakerWalt

What are you talking about? Grady Sizemore is lightning in a bottle… if only CashWOMAN had some courage to make that signing.

          • Too_Many_Idiots

            Free Travis Hafner!

      • Jorge Steinbrenner

Open challenge to have Mick Taylor place his hand on the ground and have a 250 pound man run up to him and step on it in cleats.

    • vicki

stephen A. thinks he provoked it.

    • Havok9120

See, with DRob having had a day’s rest last night, and with the pitching staff owning the Tigers this week, there was really no NEED for that extra run. He could have sat tight at third. But because of his idiot baserunning and stat padding, we lose our only first baseman for God knows how long.

He just doesn’t think while he plays.

      • WhittakerWalt

        He’s a compiler!

        • MartinRanger

Can you have injury compilers? I think Stephen’s brother would be at the top of that leaderboard.

          • Deathstroke Heathcott

The GOAT of injury compiling. Carl Pavano.

        • gordo

          test- wtf this sucks

  • Dave Mancuso

If something can happen to Teixeira, it will.

  • bernbabybern

    Out one week per stitch?

  • Andy Phillips Reborn

Okay. I guess Prado’s at first and it’s Zolio Almonte’s time to shine.

    #TeamZolio

    • Havok9120

      We can certainly hope.

    • TopChuckie

But they never put Prado at first, always Headley to 1B, Prado to 3B. Anyone know why? Has Joe been asked?

      • TopChuckie

Sorry, didn’t see this was discussed below. I’m going to blame the new system.

      • Havok9120

I’m hoping it comes up at tonight’s presser. I’d like to know the reasoning as well.

      • Cuso

        Headley is taller?

    • Deep Thoughts

You could at least spell the guy’s name right. It’s P-A-R-D-O.

      • TopChuckie

The announcer from SNL is playing first base? What’s his UZR?

  • Bolek

    Whew!

  • Chip

Could have been much much worse. Hopefully he’ll only miss a game or two

  • Dave Mancuso

I really hate that we have to use Disqus now. I have no idea how to switch to my RAB handle (Cuso). And now everyone knows my name.

    • Jorge Steinbrenner

You’re a handsome fucking devil, though.

      • Dave Mancuso

        Lol. Thanks!

        • Dave Mancuso

And I just used “lol” on RAB. Shoot me, please.

          • Jorge Steinbrenner

            Any candy offers yet?

    • n0exit

Hover over profile pic and edit profile. I think.

    • Jorge Steinbrenner

You aren’t able to create an account with your email address, and not utilize an existing social media account? I was.

      • Dave Mancuso

Apparently I used all 3 of my existing emails to create different disqus accounts over the last 3 years. I so rarely use the disqualification sites because they’re frustrating

        • Havok9120

I do hope you figure it out and stick around though. Would suck to lose RAB regulars to the switchover.

          • forensic

I guarantee they’re going to lose several, especially if the bugs for it and the overall site aren’t worked out.

            • Jorge Steinbrenner

I need to see how this works out on the work laptop. Phone worked fine. Biggest concern was always work with Disqus. If I was still at my previous job, this would have been trouble for commenting/great for my productivity.

            • Havok9120

              You can’t leave either.

              NO LEAVING.

              • Jorge Steinbrenner

Co-sign, especially since we now know you’ve been posting on Yankee blogs since the age of text browsers and PINE.

                • forensic

lol, ah the good old days…

                  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kRTMWzVoT_U

                  • forensic

And apparently I’ll never figure out how to just get the video to appear rather than the link.

                    • forensic

lol, and now that I replied with that, the video actually appears. What the hell???

                    • Havok9120

It was showing as a video for me the entire time.

                      Kinks. We has them.

                  • OldYanksFan

Simply one of the greatest bands in Rock history!

              • Deathstroke Heathcott

Well, there are some people that we can allow to leave…

                • Havok9120

                  Hmmm….

                  Mayhaps.

          • Dave Mancuso

Thanks. I will stick because I love RAB. Just uncomfortable with my name and face being super visible.

            • Havok9120

Yeah, if there’s any way you can change that, you probably should.

There are a handful of people on here that know me, but I prefer keeping that number fairly small.

            • OldYanksFan

              Why don’t you just:
              1) Get a new EMail account from Yahoo or GMail.
              2) Create a new DISQUS account
              3) Don’t use this new account for anything other than RAB
              Don’t follow, don’t lead, don’t do nuttin.
Just use it to LogIn here.
I NEVER post my last name on the internet.
I don’t even enter it for Credit Card transactions (and they are still approved)
I simply don’t know why ANYONE would post real personal information on the Internet.

        • Jorge Steinbrenner

But it does raise my concern as to whether I’m able to use other Disqus sites. I don’t really want to be JS on EVERY site out there.

          • Dave Mancuso

You will be. That’s why I’m stuck in this dilemma. Created the handle (my name) in a hurry for MLBTR and I’m stuck with it here.

            • Jorge Steinbrenner

HMMM. May make me rethink the handle. WE WILL GET THERE, CUSO.

              • Cuso

Fixed. It is possible to find it – depending on which device you use, that is.

    • vicki

your cover was blown when you followed jordan brink. mine too, before i unfollowed that jinx fucker.

      • Dave Mancuso

        Ha! Guilty as charged.

    • Betty Lizard

You can change your profile name.

Oh, and Discus? Stands for Demonic Infected Satanic Cursed Unusable Suckage.

It is the work of the devil I don’t believe in.

      • Jorge Steinbrenner

Try to block it from showing what other sites you post on as well. That’s showing right now.

        • Betty Lizard

          I rest my case.

      • Havok9120

You are not allowed to leave. Ever.

        • Betty Lizard

          Ars longa, vita brevis. :-)

      • vicki

betty, if there was a bright moment in all the ruckus it was you showing up to REGULATE.

      • AskMeAboutMyCandyBars

As I live and breathe. Don’t I know you?

    • Ninja0980

I hate it because some of the great threads from the past on this site are now gone for good.

      • Havok9120

        I had not considered that.

        Now I am sad.

        SadnessNinja.

      • TopChuckie

I think they said the old comments will eventually show up again.

    • TopChuckie

I’m pretty sure you can change your name in the settings, but it most likely will change everywhere else you use Disqus.

    • Cuso

Ok. Got the name but fixed. Now just to get my mug off the screen, somehow.

      • TopChuckie

        Avatar, also in the settings.

      • Deathstroke Heathcott

Aww, I miss your mug. :(

        • Cuso

If it stayed much longer, I would’ve been recognized and someone would’ve called the Unsolved Mysteries hotline…

          UPDATE!….

          • Deathstroke Heathcott

It’s funny, I remember seeing your full name and face earlier before you had changed it. But now I only remember your full last name and the rest of the information is gone from my head. I don’t know what that says about my short-term memory though…

  • NYPOTENCE

Dammit Tex, you just so damn fragile. SMH

  • dickylarue

The glass horse lives to gallop again! Daniel LaRusso’s gonna fight!

  • TheStraw

Glad I avoided most of the drama here the last few days. Nice win tonight for the team. Tex certainly is starting to remind me of Glass Joe from the old boxing video game.

    • gageagainstthemachine

Can you imagine if they had let you play as Mike Tyson AGAINST Glass Joe what would have happened to that poor fool!?!

  • WhittakerWalt

I admit that Tex seems to have no luck but bad luck sometimes, but is it really a sign of “fragility” that he needs stitches after having his hand get spiked? Isn’t that the same thing that would happen to anyone? He’ll be back in a couple of games, raring to go. How many of you can say you’d be back in uniform so quickly?

    • Chip

Ellsbury got his hand stepped on and stayed in like a man, Tex is clearly just weak

Seriously though, this is not really that big of a deal. Sounds like he wants to play tomorrow but I’m sure Girardi will sit him a game or two

      • TopChuckie

Two hands stepped on in two days, time for the unwritten rules.

    • dickylarue

For 23.5 million he should have the regenerative powers of Wolverine. I don’t think that’s unreasonable to expect.

      • Havok9120

Yes. The positive correlation between human healing time and annual salary is well documented.

These are facts, and they support this assertion. The defense rests.

        • dickylarue

If he would just get bitten by a vampire and turned, this all would get cleared up and Girardi could rest him during day games.

          • Havok9120

            IETC

        • Jorge Steinbrenner

          Alex Rodrigue…..
*crumbles up paper and throws it in large pile*

        • Cuso

Sweet. I’m asking for a raise at work so I can get over these flu symptoms.

    • n0exit

You’re right, but people don’t buy pitchforks for show you know, they gotta use them at any opportunity they get.

  • Lisa Kazmier

I figured it was a lasceration.

  • BigDavey88

Surprise! Not that big of a deal after all.

… Well, that actually is a surprise. Come back soon Tex!

  • Dan A.

    “They called me Mr. Glass.”

  • Dr. Pants Lendleton

Thank goodness, I got worried about Fragile boy going down for more games.

    • WhittakerWalt

Yeah, what an asshole he is trying to creatively slide around the tag to score an insurance run. What a waste of space that guy is.

  • Bill

Three stitches is not good news. That’s borderline DL material. Tex can’t get out of his own way at this point.

    • OldYanksFan

I don’t know what your issue is here.

The throw beat Teix to the plate. It was only his dangerous slide that had him get injured. And when it happened, he was much more concerned that he should be called Safe, than he was about his finger.

Getting injured by going ‘All Out’ does NOT make you injury prone.

Guys who get injured doing normal baseball activity (swinging the bat, running to first, etc) are injury prone…. not guys who are involved in a collision.

  • pepespizza
