- The week started with three games against the Orioles. Greg Bird hit a big home run in an 8-6 win on Labor Day, but the Yankees wasted Masahiro Tanaka’s gem in Tuesday’s 2-1 loss. Bad defense led to Wednesday’s 5-3 loss.
- The Blue Jays came to the Bronx for an extremely important four-game series next. Thursday’s opener was rained out, then Luis Severino got crushed in Friday’s 11-5 loss. Saturday’s doubleheader featured a 9-5 loss in the first game and a 10-7 loss in the night game. Rough. Tanaka stepped up and led the Yankees to a 5-0 win yesterday.
- Injury News: Mark Teixeira (leg) is done for the season with a small fracture. Nathan Eovaldi (elbow) will not pitch again during the regular season due to inflammation, but may return for the postseason. Brett Gardner (shoulder) missed a few days with soreness but has since returned to the lineup.
- Chris Capuano, Chris Martin, Slade Heathcott, and Gary Sanchez were all called up from Triple-A Scranton throughout the week. Tyler Austin cleared waivers and was outrighted to the minors after being designated for assignment when rosters expanded.
- Brian Cashman indicated the Yankees will pass on big name free agents this coming offseason. The Yankees are among the teams scouting Korean first baseman Byung-Ho Park.
- Assistant GM Billy Eppler will interview with both the Mariners and Angels for their GM openings.
- The 2016 schedule was announced. The Yankees will open the season at home against the Astros.
