RHP Jonathan Holder has been activated off the Triple-A Scranton disabled list, the team announced. That’s good. Always like to have healthy MLB options stashed in Triple-A. D.J. Eberle says Holder was out with a lower back injury. Those are no fun. At least it wasn’t his arm.

Triple-A Scranton (8-3 win over Rochester)

  • CF Mason Williams: 2-5, 1 2B, 2 RBI, 1 K
  • 2B Starlin Castro: 2-4, 1 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 K — played seven innings in the field, as scheduled … he still hasn’t played a full nine innings at second base, though the Yankees could’ve been taking it easy on him today in anticipation of activating him tomorrow
  • 1B Greg Bird: 1-3, 1 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 2 BB, 1 K — he and Castro hit back-to-back homers against former big leaguer Chris Heston … here’s video of the back-to-back jacks
  • 3B Miguel Andujar: 1-5, 1 R, 1 K
  • LF Jake Cave: 2-3, 1 R, 1 RBI, 2 BB
  • LHP Jordan Montgomery: 3 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 3 K, 4/0 GB/FB — 31 of 47 pitches were strikes (66%) … the short start was by design to control his workload … it is in no way a coincidence he is lined up with Jaime Garcia … my guess is Montgomery will make one more short Triple-A start in five days, then rejoin the rotation once rosters expand on September 1st
  • RHP Jonathan Holder: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 1 K — 14 of 25 pitches were strikes (56%)

Double-A Trenton (5-1 loss to Richmond)

  • LF Jeff Hendrix: 2-3, 1 K, 1 HBP — 29-for-63 (.460) in his last 16 games
  • 2B Nick Solak: 2-3, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 HBP — 18-for-50 (.360) in his last 13 games
  • SS Thairo Estrada & CF Rashad Crawford: both 0-4, 1 K — Estrada committed a fielding error
  • 1B Ryan McBroom: 0-1, 2 BB
  • LHP Daniel Camarena: 6 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 4 K, 4/9 GB/FB — 62 of 92 pitches were strikes (67%)

High-A Tampa Game One (10-1 win over Lakeland) makeup of yesterday’s rainout

  • 2B Hoy Jun Park: 1-3, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB
  • SS Kyle Holder: 2-4, 2 R, 1 RBI — he’s been tearing the cover off the ball for a good two months now
  • DH Matt Holliday: 2-4, 1 R, 2 RBI — 3-for-7 the last two days after starting his rehab assignment 0-for-10 … Jon Heyman says Holliday took the team out to a big fancy dinner, so that’s cool
  • CF Trey Amburgey: 2-4, 1 R
  • C Donny Sands: 1-3, 1 R, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 2 K, 1 E (throwing) — third homer of the year for a kid who’s been billed as a low power/high contact guy
  • RF Alex Palma: 2-3, 1 R, 1 2B
  • RHP Adonis Rosa: 6 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 8 K, 1 WP, 3/7 GB/FB — 74 of 106 pitches were strikes (70%)

High-A Tampa Game Two was postponed due to a power outage at George M. Steinbrenner Field. I’m not sure when they’re going to make this game up. The last series of the season is against Lakeland, so that’s a good bet.

Low-A Charleston (2-1 loss to West Virginia, walk-off style)

  • SS Diego Castillo, LF Dom Thompson-Williams & 2B Oswaldo Cabrera: all 1-4 — Cabrera stuck out and stole a base
  • RF Isiah Gilliam: 0-4, 2 K
  • 1B Dermis Garcia: 1-3, 1 R, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K — 14 homers in 54 games this season and 27 homers in 134 career games
  • RHP Nick Green: 5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 5 K, 8/0 GB/FB — 46 of 66 pitches were strikes (70%) … 24th start of the season and only his third scoreless start

Short Season Staten Island (3-0 loss to Aberdeen)

  • RF Timmy Robinson: 1-4, 1 K
  • RHP Juan De Paula: 6 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 7 K, 4/6 GB/FB — 51 of 84 pitches were strikes (61%) … he’s allowed three hits in his last three starts and 19 innings

Rookie Pulaski (7-6 loss to Danville in seven innings)

  • 2B Eduardo Torrealba: 1-3, 2 RBI, 2 BB
  • C Saul Torres: 1-6, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 2 K
  • 1B Eric Wagaman: 1-4, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 SB
  • SS Jesus Bastidas: 0-4, 1 R, 1 BB — got picked off first
  • RHP Gilmael Troya: 6 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 8 K, 2/1 GB/FB, 1 E (throwing) — 54 of 73 pitches were strikes (74%) … 50/18 K/BB in 50.1 innings

Rookie GCL Yanks East (5-4 win over GCL Tigers West, walk-off style)

  • SS Jose Devers: 0-4, 1 BB, 1 SB, 1 E (throwing)
  • CF Robert Javier: 1-4, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 K
  • DH Canaan Smith: 1-5
  • LF Jhon Moronta: 1-4, 1 RBI, 1 BB
  • 3B Jose Carrera: 2-4, 1 R, 1 2B, 2 RBI, 1 BB, 2 SB, 1 E (throwing) — walk-off two-run double
  • RHP Roansy Contreras: 4 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, 1 HB, 3/3 GB/FB

Rookie GCL Yanks West (10-6 win over GCL Tigers East)

  • DH Miguel Flames: 1-5, 1 R, 1 K — that’s an 18-game hitting streak
  • RF Juan De Leon: 0-3, 1 R, 2 RBI, 2 BB, 1 K
  • CF Jonathan Amundaray: 3-5, 1 R, 1 2B, 2 RBI — 5-for-9 the last two games after a 2-for-21 (.095) stretch
  • RHP Jonathan Munoz: 5 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K
