I’m going to spend the next few days with family and stuff and I hope to forget all about baseball for a little while. I’ll post any breaking news or whatever, otherwise this open thread will carry you through the holiday weekend. Here are some links worth checking out:
- With teams all having similar front offices structures — almost every club is run by an analytically included Ivy League grad — and oodles of information, how does anyone find a competitive advantage? Matt Gelb polled some executives, including Brian Cashman, and it seems the biggest differences between teams now is scouting.
- As a player, Alex Rodriguez had very few fans despite his greatness. Even a big portion of Yankees fans didn’t like the guy. As an announcer though, A-Rod has received praise from everyone. Ben Reiter looked at A-Rod’s broadcasting career and what has made him such an instant success.
- Sam Miller wrote about Mike Trout’s recent AL MVP win and what it all means in the big picture. Trout’s legacy, the voting process, all that stuff. Sam’s great. Give it a read.
- And finally, a non-baseball ink: Shane Bauer spent four months as a guard at a private prison in Louisiana and wrote about it. Pretty crazy stuff.
Happy Thanksgiving, folks. I hope you have a great weekend wherever you are.
