Open Thread: March 6th Camp Notes

The Yankees improved to 6-0 on the road during Grapefruit League play this afternoon. Two hits apiece for Aaron Hicks and Adam Lind, and one hit apiece for Giancarlo Stanton, Didi Gregorius, and Greg Bird. Stanton had a double. Everyone else singled. Aaron Judge went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts. Billy McKinney had the game’s big blow, a three-run homer in the ninth.

Jordan Montgomery started and walked four in 3.2 innings, but only allowed one run. Jonathan Holder allowed a run in 1.1 innings and Chasen Shreve retired four of the five batters he faced. Cody Carroll struck out the side in order in his inning of work. The Yankees walked seven batters this afternoon, mostly due to Montgomery. Here is the box score and here are the rest of the day’s notes from camp:

  • Nothing new on Jacoby Ellsbury (oblique) and Clint Frazier (concussion). Both were scheduled for some light work today and that’s about it. “It’s just (see) how they respond to the added workload,” said Aaron Boone. [Brendan Kuty]
  • There’s still no favorite for the second base job, according to Boone. “I’ve been pleased with everyone we’ve had over there to this point,” he said. Not sure what else a manager is supposed to say on March 6th. [Erik Boland]
  • Boone said that, in a perfect world, he’d bat a lefty between Judge and Stanton, but “nothing’s for certain.” He also said the Yankees have thought about batting Judge leadoff. “It’s something that I’ve at least considered and we’ve talked about,” said the skipper. [Kuty, David Lennon]
  • Not surprisingly, Chad Green is out of the running for a rotation spot, and will soon transition back into his multi-inning relief role. “He was so good in (that role) last year,” said Boone. [Kuty]
  • The Yankees will be on the other side of Florida to face the Mets tomorrow afternoon. That game will be televised. Domingo German is starting and most regulars will stay in Tampa rather than make the long bus trip. Dillon Tate, Tyler Wade, Gleyber Torres, Miguel Andujar, and Estevan Florial are among those heading to Port St. Lucie. [Kuty, Mike Mazzeo]

Here is the open thread for the night. MLB Network is showing the Rockies and Mariners live tonight, plus all the local hockey and basketball teams are in action except the Islanders. Talk about anything except religion or politics here. Thanks in advance.
