Checking in on Joba's start today

I don’t think I can handle another Tyler Clippard start; he’s been borderline abysmal. 18 ER and 40 baserunners since he beat the Mets in his debut, a span of only 21 innings. I’d rather take my chances with Igawa…

I wrote that before I saw this. Great minds think alike.

Triple-A Scranton (3-2 win over Charlotte)
Kevin Reese: 1 for 3, 1 BB, 1 K
Bronson Sardinha: 2 for 4, 1 R, 1 HR, 2 RBI – 8 of last 9 hits have gone for extras
Omir Santos: 1 for 3, 1 K
rest of lineup: combined 0 for 20, 1 R, 1 RBI, 5 BB, 7 K – Shelley Duncan got the RBI on a bases loaded walk
Matt DeSalvo: 7 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 7 K – 55 of 78 pitches were strikes (70.5%)
Edwar Ramirez: 1 IP, a bunch of zeroes, 2 K – 16.30 Kper9 this year
Jim Brower: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K

Double-A Trenton (7-2 win over Reading)
Brett Gardner: 1 for 4, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 BB, 1 SB – BA went from .211 to .259 in the 8 games he’s played since coming off the DL
Cody Ehlers: 0 for 3, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 K – BA went from .222 to .220 in the 15 games he’s played since coming off the DL
Shawn Garrett & PJ Pilittere: both 2 for 4, 2 R, 1 K – Garrett had a solo shot
Justin Christian: 1 for 4, 1 3B, 4 RBI
Mini-Moose Kennedy: 5 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 9 K, 5-1 GB/FB – 142 K in 112 IP as a pro, counting what he did in Hawaii (terrible pick, why didn’t they take Dan Bard and his 16-30 K/BB ratio?!?!)
Jeff Kennard: 3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 4 K

High-A Tampa is off until Monday for the All-Star break. The Eastern Division team beat their Western counterparts 8-4; if you know your geography, you know which side the Tampa guys were on (somehow an All-Star game took only 2 hours and 23 minutes to play). Here’s what they did:
Reegie Corona: 1 for 3, 1 R, 1 K – started at short and led off, pulled in the bottom of the 5th
Kevin Russo: 1 for 4, 1 RBI, 1 K- started at second, batted 8th, and played the entire game
Frankie Cervelli: 0 for 1- entered the game as a defensive sub in the bottom of the 7th
Eric Wordekemper: .2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K – pitched part of the 8th, all 5 pitches he threw were strikes
Dan McCutchen didn’t pitch because he just threw 6 innings on Thursday. Ian Kennedy also didn’t pitch, for obvious reasons.

Low-A Charleston (2-0 win over Augusta)
Hit Streak Hilligoss: 2 for 4, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 2 SB
Austin Jackson: 0 for 4, 1 K – 0 for his last 14 with 5 K
Chris Malec: 0 for 3, 2 K
Seth Fortenberry: 1for 3, 1 R, 1 2B – on pace for 53 XBH, very nice for a guy who was a speedy leadoff hitter in college
Kyle Anson, Eduardo Nunez & Kevin Smith: all were 1 for 3 – Anson had an RBI, Smith scored a run
Grant Duff: 5 IP, 6 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 3 K, 1 WP
Jesse Hoover: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, 2-1 GB/FB – this is just awesome, Jesse Hoover’s pitching in actual affiliated games again…you have no idea how happy/excited I am…
Jon Hovis: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K – K/BB ratio now at 30-2

Yankee draftees in the College World Series
Taylor Holiday, 1B, UC Irvine (19th rd): 0 for 3, 1 HBP, 2 LOB in Irvine’s heartbreaking loss to Arizona State
Matt Morris, LF, UC Irvine (23rd): 1 for 4, 1 R, 1 K

Louisville takes on Mississippi State in the Loser’s Bracket tomorrow, so it could be the last hurrah for Isaiah Howes.
