JOBA!!!
Draft signing grumblings

With Joba now smiting hitters in the bigs, Ian Kennedy flies solo as the only Yankee farmhand on BA’s Hot Sheet this week. Another Baby Bomber is mentioned in the “Helium Watch” section, and it’s about time he started to get some love.

Triple-A Scranton (5-4 win over Buffalo in 11 innings)
Brett Gardner: 1 for 5, 2 R, 1 BB, 1 K – threw a runner out at first…damn
Alberto Gonzalez & Kevin Reese: both 2 for 5, 1 RBI, 1 BB – Gonzalez scored a run & tripled
Angel Chavez: 2 for 6, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 3 K
Bronson Sardinha: 3 for 6, 2 K
Andy Cannizaro: 2 for 3, 2 BB
IPK: 6 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 4 BB, 2 K – one of those walks was intentional…not his best night, but it’s still only the 3rd time this year he’s allowed 3 or more ER in 23 starts
Sean Henn: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K – 17 of 20 pitches were strikes…damn
Edwar: 2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, 1 HB – 16.17 Kper9…but he did blow the save
Brian Bruney: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K – 12 of 16 pitches were strikes…

Low-A Charleston (8-4 loss to West Virginia)
Hit Streak Hilligoss: 3 for 5, 1 2B, 1 RBI – 11 for his last 22 with 3 doubles and homer
Seth Fortenberry & Josue Calzado: both 1 for 5 – Fortenberry K’ed twice…Calzado once
Chase Odenreider: 1 for 3, 1 R, 1 BB
Joe Muich: 2 for 3, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 K – had been 4 for his previous 35
Paul Patterson: 3.2 IP, 8 H, 7 R, 7 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, 1 HB, 1-6 GB/FB
Garrett Patterson: 3.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, 5-0 GB/FB

Double-A Trenton, High-A Tampa & Short Season Staten Island all had  scheduled off days.

Rookie GCL Yanks (4-3 win over GCL Phillies)
Abe Almonte: 0 for 3, 1 BB – breaks 9 game hit streak in which he went 14 for 33
Prilys Cuello: 1 for 4, 1 K
Zoilo Almonte: 0 for 4
Brandon Laird: 3 for 4, 2 R, 1 2B – 13 for his last 29 with 11 RBI
Jesus Montero: 1 for 3, 1 R, 1 BB – rock solid 11-8 K/BB ratio in 22 games
Kelvin Castro: 2 for 4, 1 RBI
Manny Barreda: 5.1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 2 K
Lance Pendelton: 2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K – 2005 fourth rounder is working his way back from Tommy John surgery

Slow night, so here’s how some of the bigger names in the Dominican Summer League are doing:
Jose Pirela: .280-.383-.377 with 7 2B, 2 3B, 3 HR, 22 RBI, 15 SB and a 33-15 K/BB ratio in 55 games – depending on who you ask, he’s the Yanks’ best prospect down in the Dominican
Jahdiel Santamaria: .337-.422-.521 with 12 2B, 5 3B, 3 HR, 36 RBI, 9 SB and a 13-23 K/BB ratio in 48 games – besides having a really cool name, this kid’s one to keep in mind and look out for next year when he comes to the States…he’s got some serious ability
Carlos Urena: .233-.306-.421 with 9 2B, 7 HR, 27 RBI, 3 SB and a 52-11 K/BB ratio in 44 games
