A-Rod wants to stay in the Bronx
ByNewsday’s newest Yankee beat writer Kat O’Brien has the story on A-Rod. Said the super-human third baseman, “I want to stay in New York, no matter what.” If the image-conscious A-Rod is serious and doesn’t mind giving up a few bucks to stay in pinstripes, that’s the best news I’ve heard since, well, yesterday when the Yanks announced Hughes as tomorrow’s starter. This April has shown us all that Alex Rodriguez is the biggest piece to the Yankees offense. They gotta keep him.
A-Rod is absolutely carrying this team right now. He leads all of baseball with a 25.2 VORP, which is nothing new for him. But the next highest player is Andy Pettitte at 8.3 and then Giambi at 6.5. If Alex were traded for the likes of Manny Aybar and Chone Figgins like some knuckleheads wanted last year, the Yankees would probably be 5-12 or worse.
