That angers me.
Thank you! Now I know I’m not the only one who has spent the last few weeks bitchin’ to myself because that bad call could come back to kill us.
Easily the worst call of the year. Imagine if that actually comes back to haunt us. That cost us a huge run in that game.
If everything would’ve fell into place without any errors, had the right call been made, the game would’ve went like this:
Bloomquist caught stealing, end of inning.
Top of 9th:
Johjima singles to right.
Ibanez flies out.
Sexon strikes out.
Guillen grounds out, ending the game.
But, of course, nothing is ever assumed.
I love this website and I read it everyday, but while we are ripping Bill Madden for knee-jerk journalism, did anyone notice the grim prognostications for Bobby RBI Abreu and Washed-Up Mo Rivera?
Still, the overarching point about Torre’s dimming star, was and is true. Hopefully this is is his last year as 5-time (?) champion skipper, so that next year’s manager isn’t surprised by guys like Edwar and Joba…
Yeah, but Moses, the difference between us and Bill Madden is that I’m happy to admit I was wrong. I was wrong about Abreu. His strong second half and resurgence is a bit of a surprise considering his trends and age. As for Rivera, I’m still not sure how much longer he’ll be effective considering his age and tenuous help, but he’s not washed up this season at least.
Let’s see Bill Madden say he was wrong.

The difference is that we (and by we, I mean bloggers in general) take the half-second of time required to research our topic. We at RAB got on Bobby Abreu because he was hitting .230 at the time, and heck, we never harped on Mo when he struggled (that’s the easy way to anger the Baseball Gods).
Madden critized the Yanks’ farm system without one iota of knowledge about what was going on down there. Then 6 weeks later he writes a nice puff piece about it like the first article never happened. Ridiculous.
It’s very frustrating that idiots like that are having their garbage spread around while having the audacity to critize bloggers and claim that they’re ruining sports writing because “anyone with internet access can blog.”
The concept of FJM, simply put, is brilliant.

I love FireJoeMorgan. Shit, I reread half the stuff there just for a second laugh.
While that picture does make me angry…going 2-8 in our last 10 games in April, or 4-6 to end May, or 3-7 to end June will have a lot more to do with costing the Yankees the playoffs than that one solitary call.
Even though looking at the picture sucks, Yanks have benefited from awful calls also throughout the years. Stuff like this eventually evens out.
Relaunch, I was just saying to Mike that Mariners fans actually saw that call as retribution for one made last year, in which Jorge was clearly out but called safe. The rains came after that, delaying the game, which eventually ended with a Yanks W.
This was the worst call I have ever seen
Didn’t mean to touch a nerve–there is a reason I read RAB everyday and Bill Madden virtually never. I just pointed out Ben’s comments on Abreu and Mo at the time because it’s just a little ironic, whether or not Ben is willing to admit his mistake and writes with greater authority than bilious Bill, that the post in retrospect was slightly knee-jerk and alarmist.
That’s it. Poking a little fun because unlike Bill Madden, RAB can laugh at itself and be no worse for the wear. By no means was I trying to indict the world of blogging, especially not in favor of the mainstream new york media…
Get over it… How about if the Yankees didn’t blow so early in the season they would be in first place…
