Answer: Ian Kennedy, Steven White, Kei Igawa
Question: Who are the three candidates to replace Mike Mussina in the rotation if he struggles on Monday?
i think thats highly unlikely
I don’t see Moose being replaced, either. But if he was to be, I would bet on White.
that completely goes against doctrine theyve used for the past 10 years
I should have qualified the answer with an “according to the New York Post.” I too find it hard to believe that the Yanks would go with Igawa or an untested rookie over Mussina no matter how much he struggles. That would lead me to believe that Joe Torre had been replaced with a bizarro version of himself.
lol good point its not totally impossible
A month ago I would’ve bet the house Moose would start every fifth game for the rest of ’07…lately…not so much.
It seems more and more like JT is now in Dubya mode. The front office congress seems to be calling the shots on personnel, and they appear to be capable of overriding JT’s veto power.
Wishful thinking on my part? Maybe…but I never got the feeling that JT willingly parted with Myers or Proctor. Eight weeks ago, everyone and their mother was insisting the rumor about Joba being called up to pitch out of the BP couldn’t possibly be true.
Cash and co., who now appear to be firmly seated on the throne once occupied by King George III, are interested in two things 1) money and 2) winning (which goes back to 1). The Yankees annual playoff revenue is in danger — I think Cash knows that and he is not going to be afraid to roll the dice if Moose becomes an obvious albatross.
The biggest impediment to a change is actually the fact that really, none of the options look all that good either. I don’t think Kennedy is ready. But one more Moose outing like the last and I would actually consider welcoming Igawa back — BLECH!
Idk, think about it, if moose falls and his salary just becomes another unneeded expense than cash takes a big hit. I would bet anything that Cash boy is praying for a dominant moose this monday.
surprised to read this, didnt realize moose was on the outs despite crappy starts
I’m sure he is — Cash would like nothing better than to NOT have to do something. But if it doesn’t work out…let’s put it this way: Two playoff games in HTRB almost covers Moose’s salary for the season with revenue when you take into account tickets, concessions, programs, souvenirs, and TV.
Yes, Cash is rooting for Moose to make the problem go away — but I don’t think he’ll hesitate to throw him under the bus if he has to. JT, on the other hand, would never do it on his own.
White or Kennedy would require a move on the 40 man roster. Not likely to happen.
Not so, Mr. Faded Glory. Mussina starts on Monday. Five days after Monday is September 1, at which point they can bring up White or Kennedy without making a 40-man move.
