The view from the afternoon
ByOpening Day is fast approaching. (Photo by flickr user Daniel, Peralta)
With the new stadium set for a Feb. 17 completion date, the construction crews in the Bronx are coming down the home stretch. Zell’s Pinstripe Blog has one of the last sets of construction photos, and things look great.
We can see a shot of the new Gate 4 and a glimpse of Babe Ruth Plaza. The entrances to the new stadium look quite fancy as well.
Meanwhile, across the street at the House That Ruth Built, some initial destruction has commenced. It looks like the old ticket booths will be the first to go. As late as my senior year in high school, those tiny blue booths still sold gameday tickets. The old stadium appears to be roped off forever.

Seeing those pictures of the old ticket booths make me sad.
I wonder how tight the security for the old Yankee Stadium is during the wee hours of the morning.
Tight as Al Bundy squeezing some chick’s huge foot into a tiny Size 6 shoe.
Yeah, I don’t know what the security is like but I feel like sneaking in to enjoy every part of the stadium one more time. I could also go on the field, go in the clubhouse , and take some souvenirs from around the stadium.
Hey, a man can dream.
Never did the tour?
I did, it was fun, I want more.
Really? I just wanted to steal some shit. But yeah, I guess that would be cool too.
Hey Jamal… i took something…

I’m a people person. I deal with the customers so the engineers don’t have to. Don’t you get that? What the hell is wrong with you people!
PC load letter…WTF does THAT mean?
When I went on the tour in November, I … um … found out that a rock from Monument Park somehow made it home with me.
Does that rock have any identifying characteristics that indicate it may be from Yankee Stadium, or does it look like any other rock from someone’s backyard?
(Ben, plug your ears for this conversation, you don’t want to have to turn anybody in for anything.)
I took a piece for the Parthenon when I went to Greece. A medium sized rock was on the ground and I took it .
By that’s depressing….

… and yet exciting at the same time, right?
Right? I’m a mixture of melancholy for the old building being shuttered and dismembered but STOKED for the new one, which looks all sorts of awesome. Aren’t you?
Why are they playing an exhibition game in February in NY? I’d be surprised if any veterans come up.
They’re playing the Exhibition game in April.
What? No 2 Gate 4′s?
Yankee Stadium was the only place in the world to have TWO Gate 4s. (People would think I was insane on their first trip to the Stadium when I would say meet me between the two Gate 4s).
I demand another Gate 4.
Will RAB header change when they do tear down Yankee Stadium?
does this affect me in any way?
Yes, it affects you. We all agreed that we weren’t doing this anymore (changing your handle to ask questions of other real people in the first person).
