Looking forward, looking back

By Benjamin Kabak

As part of his ongoing series of organizational reports, the Biz of Baseball’s Devon Temple profiled the Yanks yesterday. While the piece covers familiar ground — a fruitful offseason, the new stadium — Temple makes an interesting comparison between the Yankees and just about every other team in baseball. The Yanks’ value, according to Forbes, has tripled over the last decade to well over $1 billion, and when we compare the Yanks to the Marlins, “the Yankees are a brand and the Marlins are a team in the National League East.” Along with money come expectations, and soon we’ll see how the 2009 Yankees face those too.

But but people tell me baseball needs a salary cap because the Yankees buy up all the FA’s. Its sad how “polar opposites” those two teams really are but I been arguing with people for years about how Florida makes little to no effort in keeping a consistent team.I mean do they really expect people to keep coming back to the stadium when they offload players after a championship.

What else do you really expect Florida to do, though? They have no fan base and no revenue stream that supports the team. Even during their title runs, the stadium was half empty. If they paid the big bucks to retain all those Kevin Browns and Gary Sheffields and Al Leiters and Josh Becketts, they’d have gone bankrupt.

ALEX BROTHER SAYS: ALEX OUT FOR A MONTH:

is this the same source that said we signed Manny?

i guess if he has the cyst surgically removed, this isn’t implausible, but we should probably wait until the Yankees say something.
