I am really disappointed to have missed out on the Sterling bashing today. I was just commenting on this when, after Rodriguez ended the game over the weekend with a home run, Sterling worked in 4 or 5 catch phrases in a row, while totally disregarding everything on the field. Rodriguez did not smile into the dugout, or launch his helmet into the air, or get greeted by Swisher 10 feet before home plate. There was no celebration, no pie in the face.

Edwar scares me more than Veras. Veras has no idea where it is going, but that makes it difficult on hitters as well. When he stinks, I feel like it moves slowly enough for the Yanks to get him out of there. Edwar, on the other hand, has hitters just sitting on his stuff. If they are wrong, he K’s them, but if they are right, things get ugly in a hurry.
Veras’s problem is walks, Edwars is walks, and having a very hittable fastball.

3.7 hr per game this year at the new yankee stadium. 1.8 or so last year. Obviously, still early, and that number has come down over the last few weeks (tonight doesn’t help), but it is still a lot.

Ok, time for an elementary lesson in probability and statistics. Too many people seem to believe the ‘He’s due’ argument, or that the ‘Law of Averages’ implies that someone who’s 4-4 will make an out or someone batting .200 MUST go .400 for the next month because he’s a career .300 hitter.
At bats are not perfectly independent, but it’s rather safe to say that someone being 4 for 4 does not make it LESS likely for them to get a hit in their 5th at bat.

I know it’s early but can we say the relative success of Pena and Cervelli as rookies can be largely attributed to being unheralded guys who came in under the radar with no pressure to perform? Or is it just too small of a sample size and we’re all falling in love with them too early?
I dont think most of us are falling in love with them too early, cause most of us know what they are- guys who probably aren’t going to hit much but will field the hell out of their positions. That is what we are seeing, and the fact that they dont look to be overwhelmed at the plate is just a plus. It is nice to see the Yankees are at least able to find some bench players for the future in their system.
Sample size. .200 at Trenton don’t necessarily lie.
in 58 ABS, last year in 73 he hit .315
he’s neither, like most catchers he’s in that .250 range
If you want to use Cervelli’s 16 games at Trenton from this season to prove he is a .200 minor league hitter, why not look at the 21 games last season and conclude he is a .315 hitter? The .200 at AA is just as small a sample as his good sample here.
