Game 103: Alive on the deadline

By

Last night’s frustrating loss aside, the Yankees are still sitting pretty atop the American League East. They bolstered their bench by acquiring Jerry Hairston Jr. earlier today, though he’s not going to arrive in time to be in uniform tonight. Cody Ransom lives to see another day.

Shelley Duncan has been called up to add some righthanded pop to the lineup, although you have to wonder how long he’ll be around with Hairston coming aboard. Jon Albaladejo was optioned out to make room for Shellster on the roster. I haven’t seen confirmation anywhere, but it’s safe to assume either Xavier Nady or Chien-Ming Wang was moved to the 60-day DL to free up a 40-man spot.

Young southpaw Clayton Richard was scheduled to start for the White Sox tonight, but he was traded to San Diego in a package for the injured Jake Peavy this afternoon. Long reliever DJ Carrasco will make the start instead. Here’s the starting nine:

Jeter, SS
Damon, LF
Teixeira, 1B
A-Rod, 3B
Matsui, DH
Posada, C
Cano, 2B
Melky, CF
Hinske, RF

And on the mound, Sergio! Mitre.

let’s go yanks, lets get em tonight

    final score prediction?

    7-4

    • http://www.retire21.org Mike R. – Retire 21

I’ll take the over on that prediction.

  • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

They’re actually playing this game? I figured they would have just closed up shop for the season and gone home, since the Red Sox just won the freaking World Series by trading for Victor Martinez, who is going to hit .400/.500/.800 down the stretch and Casey Kotchman, who once hit 5 grand slams in one inning.

    • Mike bk

u would think that was the case reading some of this panic…you forgot how hairston is going to hit .000 strike out every time and commit an error on every ball hit in his direction.

    • Salty Buggah

You mean 5 5-run HRs (Platinum slams?)

      • whozat

Is that like…a normal Denny’s grand slam with a duck breast on top?

      • JMK

        It’s Uranium Slam.

        So good, it’s turning Japanese.

      • Mike bk

        ok, thanks.

      • pat

        Would you say he’s uninspiring?

    • Marcus

When are folks going to start posting pitch by pitch updates of Montero’s at bats? That’s what I’m waiting for.

  • Nick L

Failed my Road Test today, I could use a big win from the Yanks.

    • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Optimist Prime

Fail once, try again. I got lucky with mine, I shouldn’t have passed.

    • Johan Iz My Brohan

Taking mine on August 12th, what part did you mess up on?

      • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

Meh, drove around with my eyes closed, killed a couple of guys. No biggie.

        • pat

Leaned out the window, killed a guy with a trident.

      • Nick L

i did perfect the whole time, the last turn was a left hand turn at a intersection… I made the turn and apparently the guy thought the oncoming traffic was to close when i turned so he failed me for not yielding the right of way.. so in other words i cut of the oncoming car… but he must have been drunk because the car was no where near us.

        • Salty Buggah

Damn, he was tough. I got lucky. I was going 10 under and then 15 over, hit a sidewalk, almost missed a stop sign but he reminded me, didn’t know what some of the signs were, and probably several other mistakes. But I’m pretty good now, I hope.

          • Nick L

this guy was literally making fun of me for making that turn afterward. easily the biggest douche i ever met.

        • Nick L

The worst part is that im picking up my car tomorrow morning, and the next road test available isnt until september. But enough about this, lets talk some Baseball.

    • JMK

Don’t feel bad. I somehow passed despite being able to only parallel park. Good luck on your next run.
      /From Jersey…No cop, no stop
//Has never used a turn signal
      ///Be afraid, be very afraid

    • Salty Buggah

I hope they win today too.

I was nervous so I hit the sidewalk when turning but luckily the guy was nice and didn’t mind it and I was lucky there was no traffic whatsoever. It’s OK, you will get it.

    • Riddering

I passed mine on the first try but had to listen to my road test guy tear me down for 15 minutes about how he didn’t want to let me on the road yet couldn’t take enough points off to fail me.

That was six years ago and I have yet to kill anyone with my vehicles! Suck on that, you old grumpy geezer.

So, uh, anyway. The moral is: go get ‘em next time!

  • Salty Buggah

I hope the bats come out swinging and Mitre performs to his FIP. Oh and Go Orioles, for this series.

  • Manimal

Am I the only one still worried about our Starting pitching situation? Some people are content relying on waivers just because the economy is bad.

    • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Optimist Prime

      I’m more curious than worried.

      • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

        That.

Do I think we should do something? Yeah. Am I going to go ripshit about Cashman doing nothing when there’s still a month of waiver deals left and the problem is still theoretical and not actual? No.

    • whozat

No. Some people realize that overpaying for guys that wouldn’t have made the team a lot better is pointless.

And for guys who WOULD have unquestionably been better than our 3-5 starters right now, we would have had to give up one of our starters or Hughes. Which also doesn’t really help.

    • Salty Buggah

Apparently, Cashman is one of those people so I trust him.

  • Salty Buggah

Tex: “I don’t think anyone can complain about bringing in CC (Sabathia), A.J. (Burnett) and myself. Guys are stepping up for us this year. Joba (Chamberlain) is stepping up, Phil (Hughes) is stepping up. We’ve got everything we need here.”

“I said from the very beginning of the season, we have everything we need to win here,” Teixeira said. “I think we’re showing that. When we play our best baseball, we’re going to win. We just have to keep working hard and play well the next two months.”

Yet, some are still jumping off the ledge for not making a trade that would hurt as we would have had to overpay for many players that they. (And if the prospects we trade blossom, they will still complain that we should not have made the trade)

    • dkidd

that quote makes me like tex even more

    • Salty Buggah

      *they wanted

  • Manimal

Could we see Shelly pinch hit tonight?

    • whozat

More likely they see him start against a lefty tomorrow or the next day. I figure I’d PH swisher against a lefty if they put one in.

  • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Optimist Prime

    I can’t find my bookmark =(

  • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

So, assuming that Melky keeps starting the lion’s share of the games when Gardner gets back, our 4 man playoff bench is gonna be:

    LF/CF/RF/pinchrunner – Gardner (L)
    LF/RF/DH/1B/3B/pinchhitter – Hinske (L)
    C – Molina (R)
    2B/3B/SS/LF/CF/RF – Hairston (R)

    Not bad. Splits:
    RHP 177 PA .277/.351/.406 | LHP 54 PA .267/.365/.378 – Gardner
    RHP 112 PA .250/.357/.427 | LHP 34 PA .321/.441/.571 – Hinske
    RHP 49 PA .222/.271/.356 | LHP 12 PA .400/.500/400 – Molina
    RHP 238 PA .255/.303/.389 | LHP 103 PA .253/.310/.418 – Hairston

  • JMK

Anyone see the Winners of the trade deadline video on ESPN? You’ll never believe this but Peter Gammons thought the Sox were the big winners of the deadline.

    http://espn.go.com/video/clip?.....id=2521705

  • J.R.

Not sure how many people watch the Giants, but there will be a fight tonight or tomorrow.

After Sanchez threw at Utley and they retaliated the next inning. Mark my word, fight tonight or tomorrow.

  • Johan Iz My Brohan

Ortiz at it again 3-0 Sox

    ROIDSSSS

  • Salty Buggah

So what are the chances we get Duchscherer? I mean, what other team may place a claim on him?

    I really want him.

    • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

I’m most worried about the Angels. I hope they make a move for Jon Garland first.

  • dkidd

as much as i’d like another pitcher, it would be great to see andy come up big in a playoff game one last time

  • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Optimist Prime

So the Sox called up a guy named McBeth.

      Marcus McBeth?

The Sox added a Latino player and a black player on the same day? That’s gotta be a sign of the apocalypse.

      • dkidd

        they thought he was irish

      • Salty Buggah

But they gave up a Mexican (LaRoche, yea his dad is Mexican not French) to add another white guy (Kotchman) so it’s all even.

        • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

          Good point.

Plus, Kotchman is already rocking the Red Sox Whiteguy Douchebeard, so he probably counts double.

          • Salty Buggah

Yep so no progress up in Boston

            • Esteban

Theo should be fired! He clearly went against the organizational mandate to only acquire white players to create a team that mirrors its fanbase.

  • Joba or Hughes-To-the-pen

Why do we need Jerry Hairston JR?Whats the difference between him and Eric Hinske or Cody Ransom.

Sometimes when Cash doesn’t get what he’s looking for he does deals just for the sake of doing it.THere not one reason to have this guy.

    • whozat

He’s a better hitter than Cody Ransom
He can play many, many more positions than Eric Hinske
He can back up in CF

It’s like you didn’t even bother to think about it for a second.

      • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

Which leads me to the response I was going to go with:

        http://www.google.com

    • Salty Buggah

Says you. Hinske is a RF/3B/1B. Ransom is a 3B/SS/maybe 2B. Hairston is everything except catcher and pitcher.

    • Johan Iz My Brohan

He can play all positions, infield and outfield (with the exception of catcher of course. It makes Cody Ransom useless.

      • Peedlum

I disagree completely. Cody Ransom was already useless. This move had no effect on that.

    • VO

Joe Girardi won’t play Hinske in any position except right.

      • whozat

Honestly…it’s hard to think he’s wrong. Look up how much Hinske has played anywhere else recently, and how poor he’s been defensively.

  • dkidd

nick green with another error. the universe is starting to make sense again

  • Mr. Max

Girardi is talkin about how much flexibility he’ll have with Hairston AND Ransom. Gulp.

    • cjc

I just don’t get the hard on he has for this guy

    • whozat

Soon, he will lose his precious Ransom…muahahahaha…

      • Mr. Max

The point is, unless Cash does what he wants without talking with Girardi, or maybe Girardi is trying to support Ransom, Ransom is not going anywhere. That would SUCK.

        • whozat

So…you’re thinking they’re going to release Hinske when Gardner comes back?

      • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

Yeah, when Gardner gets back there’s just simply zero room left for him at all.

Gardner >>> Hinske >>> Hairston >>> Ransom, and we can only keep 3.

        • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

I hope Cash is able to tell Jeter he’s taking Ransom of his bench.

      • http://www.puristbleedspinstripes.com Rebecca-Optimist Prime

This one count has been found guilty of a crime he didn’t commit, sentenced to execution but first they’re going to torture him to reveal his accomplices.

So they strap him to a table and then encase his legs in wood panels and use a hammer to drive in wedges that would break the bones.

Except because the count has been so nice to the executioner, the executioner uses fake wedges made of leather.

          . . . . . torture without pain?

(OK, fill in the blank for me people)

  • Yankee1010

Ball 1 didn’t miss. That was a strike.

If they’re going to shift on Thome, shift. It killed them last night and it wouldn’t have necessarily made a difference there, but if they’re going to put Cano in RF, Jeter has to shift more. It’s ridiculous.

    • Mike bk

said that last night. guess they didnt learn.

    • Luis Polonia

Exactly. You defeat the purpose of the shift if you don’t move the SS over…that drove me nuts last night.

  • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

Huh, I didn’t remember the little tidbit that Orlando Cabrera’s agent put a clause in his one-year deal with the A’s barring the team who has his rights from offering him arbitration this offseason.

    http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/.....brera.html

So, getting Ladendorf from him was a savvy move, since there will be no draft pick compensation when he departs.

    • Mike bk

not to mention the money saved in the meantime. probably lose a few more games and get a higher draft pick too.

who gets pulled first mitre or carasco with these pitch counts

    • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

Mitre’s not really on a pitch count, just an effectiveness count.

I am curious to see how long Ozzie lets Carrasco go, though. He’s not really a fan of these newfangled concepts like “pitch counts” and “counting in general” and “strategy” and “thinking”.

      • Mike bk

well the point was he is throwing so many pitches at this rate he would only go about 3.

  • cjc

my god this is hard to watch Trachsel like

  • Luis Polonia

Well, is anybody that surprised? Mitre is a career journeyman starter who hasn’t ever been very good.

You’re right, he’s our 5th starter and we shouldn’t expect much.

But I don’t think it’s too much to ask to have a game that’s watchable.

  • Jose

One strike from finishing the inning with nobody on to 1 run scored and the bases loaded. That got out of hand fast.

    • Yankee1010

Yep. Brick killed a man. With a trident.

  • Dela G

    oh shit

cmon surge, lets get out of this inning

    pretty please?

  • John Duci

    3-2 count 2 outs… FASTBALL!!!

  • Johan Iz My Brohan

    godddddd

  • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

    Finally.

  • Dela G

    thank you jesus

  • chriskeo

Thank mo, those were a scary 29 pitches

  • John Duci

All things considered Mitre will sign up for that.

  • DGeezy

    woo mitre survived that

  • E-ROC

After all that, Mitre gave up only one run.

  • Mike bk

    bring on Josh Towers…lol.

    • Johan Iz My Brohan

      no thanks.

    • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

In all seriousness, the next option is probably Romulo Sanchez.

      • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

I would think it’s Aceves. I would hope it is, anyway.

        • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

Well, I was referring to the next option not currently on the 40-man. I think Romulo making an emergency start may scare them less than Towers or Igawa.

  • Charlie

whether he survived that inning or not, i just don’t think Mitre is good enough to be in the Yankees starting rotation.

  • Luis Polonia

On the bright side, tonight seems like a good night to get Melancon some work. Let’s just hope he’s pitching with a big lead.

  • Johan Iz My Brohan

    First pitch swings <3 Cano

  • Salty Buggah

8 pitches to get 2 outs. 21 pitches to get the 3rd but allowed a run in the process.

  • cjc

its like a battle to see who gets pulled first we should place bets

  • Tony

I can’t wait for people to tell me Mitre is a solid option as they point to his FIP

  • Johan Iz My Brohan

If Cano stole, then Melky grounded out moving Cano to third I would like that, but Melky failed to wait for Cano to steal. Bad Melky

  • acb

thank god the white sox suck. boston would have had mitre out of the game in the 1st.

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

You obviously haven’t seen how Boston’s offense has been performing this month.

      • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

Or the month before that, or the month before that.

      • Luis Polonia

But aren’t we supposed to have an irrational fear of all things Boston?

        • Jose

I’m afraid of Tea Parties because of Boston.

          • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

I’m afraid of tea parties because of Sean Hannity and Karl Rove… but that’s a different story.

        • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

Well, I do have a crazy phobia of my beard waking up, biting me on the chin, and then scurrying back to the forest where I found it.

  • Salty Buggah

The offense needs to keep hitting (no more DPs, lets get Carrasco out of this game) and hopefully Mitre settles down from here.

  • Johan Iz My Brohan

    Shelley looks bored =(

  • chriskeo

Wang hit the 60 day DL, according to Kay

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Did Kay just say Shelley is out of options? He’s an idiot.

And Hinkse could’t hit a breaking pitch if his life depended on it.

    • BigBlueAL

Hey fans! I’m an idiot. Who but!

    • chriskeo

Yes he did just say that, 10 seconds after he said they would shelley down tomorrow for hairston

    • Mike bk

might be a dumb question. why bring up shelley with hairston coming tomorrow to then have to dfa him?

      • Charlie

why would they have to dfa him if he’s not out of options?

        • Mike bk

well obviously they dfa’ed him before since he was off the 40 man, so i guess he didnt have options.

      • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

        A) We called up Shelley before the Hairston deal went through
        B) We don’t really give a crap about DFAing Shelley, which means he’d probably clear waivers and go back to Scranton anyway, because who else is gonna take him?

  • cjc

who the fuck is that at first and what did they do with konerko bs

  • cjc

oh some more grit for ya 5-4 O’s

  • Charlie

yea john smoltz!!! I thought he “couldn’t” fail

  • Jose

Why did Smoltz not retire a Brave? He is a shell of his former self.

    • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

      C.R.E.A.M.

      • Tom Zig

        Cash rules everything around me?

  • Salty Buggah

damn, only 30 pitches for Carrasco.

    Cmon Mitre, quick efficient inning.

  • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

    Eric Hinske?

That’s Kevin James and you know it.

  • Salty Buggah

OH boy, cmon Mitre. No walks

  • Dela G

man this kid is hard to watch

    • Charlie

he’s not really a kid, the guy’s 28. and yea, he is hard to watch

  • Riddering

Wow. They just played Duran Duran “View to a Kill”. That brings back good memories, none of them involving Chris Walken.

  • Yankee1010

Looks like the offense is going to have to score plenty more runs at this rate.

  • cjc

    batting practice

  • BigBlueAL

So what will it take to get Hughes into the rotation again????

    • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

Nothing more than wisdom, perspective, and courage.

    • Mike bk

well now it will take 2-3 weeks to stretch him out.

  • DGeezy

ugh this is going to be a long night with mitre on the mound

  • Russell NY

This has loss written all over it. And bullpen in the 4th inning.

  • cjc

    sure why not

  • Tony

Sergio Mitre is unbelievably bad. I don’t care if he magically escapes this game with 1ER. I don’t care what his FIP is. He sucks. Bad. He sucks real bad.

  • For lack of a more creative name… Alex

How the hell did that happen again?

  • frank

Mitre may not make it out of this inning.

  • Yankee1010

    PFP tomorrow?

  • E-ROC

    OMG! Seriously?

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

    Oh great googily moogily.

  • Riddering

The White Sox are fucking with the infield grass between innings.

  • cjc

they ruled that a hit what a joke

  • Salty Buggah

    Oh boy

  • Yankee1010

The White Sox’ scorer is as bad at his job as Hawk Harrelson is at his.

  • Dela G

oh lord, everyone is falling on there

  • cjc

this could be 6-3 real quick

  • Salty Buggah

    cmon DP

  • Johan Iz My Brohan

Triple play and I’ll grow my pubes…

  • Charlie

this is really yucky. and i don’t care what you guys think, surely the yankees will soon realize that hughes has to start. and they seem to have been stretching him out lately, too

    • Luis Polonia

I think they may be slowly realizing it. They’ve been using him for more pitches lately. I think PeteAbe posted something about his usage earlier today.

  • Tony

When will Arroyo clear waivers? Do not fricking tell me Mitre is the same thing.

  • Salty Buggah

    NO bases loaded walk please!

  • Johan Iz My Brohan

    FUCK THIS

  • http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/ The Artist

It’s not easy to raise your ERA when you go in with 7.04, but John Smoltz has figured out a way to do it.

    http://espn.go.com/mlb/boxscor.....=290731101

Such depth. Wait till Penny and Beckett shoulder’s go kablooey like they did last year.

    • Mike bk

u really think watching mitre right now is a good time to mock other people’s pitching?

      • pat

Smoltz was lauded as the second coming. Mitre is nothing.

        • Mike bk

last i checked smoltz is there 5, mitre is our 5. whatever hype is meaningless. results r results.

  • E-ROC

    Beckham just missed a hanger.

  • cjc

Shelly getting sent down won’t have anything to do with Harriston they are going to need arms tomorrow god damn 43 pitches

  • Brazilian Yankee

Now I see why Cash didn’t trade for a pitcher. Mitre is a beast.

  • BigBlueAL

Cant wait to see this rotation once Joba is no longer in it due to his innings limit.

  • Charlie

oh, motherfucker. this guy is just awful. he’s like an even worse post-DL 2009 CMW. only one who never has or likely will find success in the majors

  • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Fucking idiot Melky, throwing to the wrong base yet again.

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Actually, never mind, Jeter never bothered to go to second for the throw.

      • Mike bk

no that was on cano. jeter is to cut 3rd. cano is to cover 2nd not go to 1st.

  • Yankee1010

Jesus. Both runners moved up? Unreal. The defense needs to pick it up.

  • Dela G

    oh my god

    this is terrible

  • cjc

terrible judgement from Melky but I guess when the pitcher take 6 hours between pitches you can lapse bit

  • Brazilian Yankee

Nice of the Yankees to let the guy on first advance to scoring position.

    • http://www.riveraveblues.com Mike Axisa

Jeter never bothered to go to second, Podsednik walked in to second on the sac fly.

      • Mike bk

i repeat cano is supposed to cover 2nd not 1st. jeter is supposed to cutoff for 3rd.

  • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

Had Melky Cabrera thrown to the right base, this game would still be tied.

    • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

I sit corrected. I should be blaming Jeter and not Melky.

  • ChrisS

I think the Sergio Mitre experiment is over.

    Hughes.

  • Jose

This front office is an embarrassment. We should have picked up Halladay. Forfeit this game and go home, sell the team and move them to Fargo.

  • VO

Well, at least Ace can go today.

  • charlespoet

I am so glad we picked up Hariston today and no pitching.

    • Luis Polonia

Because it’s impossible to pick up a pitcher after today.

  • Tony

When are they going to teach Melky about cutoff men?

    • http://twitter.com/tsjc68 tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Upside

There was nobody to throw to at second.

      • Mike bk

cause for some reason cano rotated to 1st?

      • Tony

No, he wasn’t “on” second, but he wasn’t standing in the 3rd base coach’s box either. You don’t throw there. Melky consistently ignores/misses/overthrows cutoff men.

  • Yankee1010

So, um, I understand it’s ridiculous to overpay, but let’s not try to sugarcoat it completely. It seems pretty clear that Mitre isn’t going to cut it. Obviously, you’re not going to give up Jackson, Montero, etc. for Jarrod Washburn, but it’s clear that Mitre isn’t the answer.

Can we please get Hughes stretched out?

  • Johan Iz My Brohan

My Mitre Meter is running out, time to get give Mitre a ticket out of here.

  • cjc

this is sick just sick its really hard to suck anymore

  • Dela G

    oh lord

    flood gates

  • BigBlueAL

Youkilis gives the Red Sox the lead with a HR.

  • Charlie

goddamnit. if there’s any one who still defends having mitre in the rotation over hughes, i’d love to hear why

  • charlespoet

    Sergio Ponson Mitre

  • acb

why isnt swisher warming up in the bullpen yet?

    • Charlie

      cause its 4-3?

      • ChrisS

in the second and most everything Mitre has thrown, for strikes, has been rapped hard.

  • E-ROC

Mitre is hanging these pitches. Geez.

  • DreDog

I kinda miss IPK. Thanks Mitre.

  • No Halladay

    Mitre is out

  • charlespoet

and David “The Solution” Robertson warming up. ugh!

  • Buddy

so… this is the number 4 starter when joba reaches his innings limit.

if so. this is not a playoff team.

  • r.w.g.

Hughes should probably be in the rotation.

But what if he doesn’t pitch well again? Then what do we do?

  • Yankee1010

Another problem with Mitre sucking is that it will make them more reluctant to skip Joba so that he can start in the playoffs. They’re not going to skip Joba so that Mitre can go out there and get killed.

  • E-ROC

Just get out of the inning.

  • cjc

“he’s not going to long for this game”

really Al god now I see how you got this job how could YES not hire you with gems like that

  • No Halladay

Well, maybe Mitre gives up 5 or 6 runs, maybe we score 11

  • Brazilian Yankee

And the worst thing about this situation is Mitre will get at least 2 more starts.

  • Johan Iz My Brohan

    Fuckin O’s

    Hughes to rotation NOW!

  • charlespoet

Ok time for the offense to put up a 5 spot and end this ridiculous display.

  • bobmac

Who would be the next call up to start from the minors?

  • Dela G

    attaboy mitre

    on to the third!

  • Yankee1010

Michael Kay, stop acting like the Pirates were some juggernaut. Were Sanchez, Wilson, LaRoche, Grabow, etc. going to be part of the next good Pirates team? It amazes me how this escapes people. Those guys had been there for years and they didn’t sniff .500. But, yeah Michael, keep them there because they were making the 1927 Yanks quiver.
