Game 103: Alive on the deadline
ByLast night’s frustrating loss aside, the Yankees are still sitting pretty atop the American League East. They bolstered their bench by acquiring Jerry Hairston Jr. earlier today, though he’s not going to arrive in time to be in uniform tonight. Cody Ransom lives to see another day.
Shelley Duncan has been called up to add some righthanded pop to the lineup, although you have to wonder how long he’ll be around with Hairston coming aboard. Jon Albaladejo was optioned out to make room for Shellster on the roster. I haven’t seen confirmation anywhere, but it’s safe to assume either Xavier Nady or Chien-Ming Wang was moved to the 60-day DL to free up a 40-man spot.
Young southpaw Clayton Richard was scheduled to start for the White Sox tonight, but he was traded to San Diego in a package for the injured Jake Peavy this afternoon. Long reliever DJ Carrasco will make the start instead. Here’s the starting nine:

I figured they would have just closed up shop for the season and gone home, since the Red Sox just won the freaking World Series by trading for Victor Martinez, who is going to hit .400/.500/.800 down the stretch and Casey Kotchman, who once hit 5 grand slams in one inning.
u would think that was the case reading some of this panic…you forgot how hairston is going to hit .000 strike out every time and commit an error on every ball hit in his direction.

i did perfect the whole time, the last turn was a left hand turn at a intersection… I made the turn and apparently the guy thought the oncoming traffic was to close when i turned so he failed me for not yielding the right of way.. so in other words i cut of the oncoming car… but he must have been drunk because the car was no where near us.
Damn, he was tough. I got lucky. I was going 10 under and then 15 over, hit a sidewalk, almost missed a stop sign but he reminded me, didn’t know what some of the signs were, and probably several other mistakes. But I’m pretty good now, I hope.
this guy was literally making fun of me for making that turn afterward. easily the biggest douche i ever met.
The worst part is that im picking up my car tomorrow morning, and the next road test available isnt until september. But enough about this, lets talk some Baseball.

I hope they win today too.
I was nervous so I hit the sidewalk when turning but luckily the guy was nice and didn’t mind it and I was lucky there was no traffic whatsoever. It’s OK, you will get it.
I passed mine on the first try but had to listen to my road test guy tear me down for 15 minutes about how he didn’t want to let me on the road yet couldn’t take enough points off to fail me.
That was six years ago and I have yet to kill anyone with my vehicles! Suck on that, you old grumpy geezer.

No. Some people realize that overpaying for guys that wouldn’t have made the team a lot better is pointless.
And for guys who WOULD have unquestionably been better than our 3-5 starters right now, we would have had to give up one of our starters or Hughes. Which also doesn’t really help.
Apparently, Cashman is one of those people so I trust him.

So, um, I understand it’s ridiculous to overpay, but let’s not try to sugarcoat it completely. It seems pretty clear that Mitre isn’t going to cut it. Obviously, you’re not going to give up Jackson, Montero, etc. for Jarrod Washburn, but it’s clear that Mitre isn’t the answer.

Another problem with Mitre sucking is that it will make them more reluctant to skip Joba so that he can start in the playoffs. They’re not going to skip Joba so that Mitre can go out there and get killed.

Michael Kay, stop acting like the Pirates were some juggernaut. Were Sanchez, Wilson, LaRoche, Grabow, etc. going to be part of the next good Pirates team? It amazes me how this escapes people.
