RAB 2009 Trade Deadline Chat

  1. Tony says:

    V-Mart is a Red sox

  2. Stryker says:

did the chat crap out for anyone else?

  3. Adam says:

wtf, they didn’t even have to trade buccholz?

    • Stryker says:

How do teams keep letting Boston not part with their top prospects? I have to hand it to Theo, he has done so well in giving up lower level guys.

    • Slu says:

And the Phillies didn’t have to trade Drabek for Lee. Shapiro is not going to be popular. He trades two of his best players, one of which is the current Cy Young winner, the other plays a premium position, and he can’t get a number one prospect for either of them?

    • Adam says:

it just seems like everyone wants joba or hughes, but boston can get away with masterson who can’t get lefties out.

    • Tank the Frank says:

Via MLBTR – 1:35pm: MLB.com’s Jonathan Mayo says (via Twitter) pitchers Nick Hagadone and Justin Masterson are in the deal. Gut reaction: nice haul.

Nice haul????? For whom? An average reliever at best and an A-ball prospect for V-Mart? Not to mention the Tribe sent Cliff Lee to the Phillies for a grand total of zero pitchers with any major league innings. Great prospects no doubt on the Lee trade…but still. The Tribe is pissing me off here.

  4. Jake H says:

I wonder if Mike forgot to plug his laptop in again.

  5. VO says:

Yankee traded for Halladay and Mike had a heart attack.

    • Mike Pop says:

Has to be more, that doesn’t seem like enough. Does it?

    • gxpanos says:

      Not enough. Cant be.

    • Raf says:

      Masterson has that much value?

      • Johan Iz My Brohan says:

he gets hit hard by lefties

        .313 baa

        that’s bad.

      • Hova says:

This is getting sickening. Teams ask the Yankees for guys like Joba, Hughes and Montero, but give away VMart for Masterson and Hagadone??? This is bullshit.

You know what? Fcuk every other team in baseball. I want the Yankees to buy everyone. If teams wanna play hardball with the Yankees in trades, we’ll just buy everyone with our zillions of dollars. An all-star player at every position, and Cy Young winners at every spot in the rotation.

        So freaking pissed.

    • Tank the Frank says:

      Tommiesmithjohncarlos a/k/a Ridiculous Trade.

    • I Remember Celerino Sanchez says:

I don’t want to sound like a paranoid Yankee fan, but it seems to me that if the Yanks wanted VMart, it would have cost more than Robertson and Betances (fair comps?).

      • No, not fair comps. Masterson >> Robertson, and Hagadone >>> Betances.

Not horrible comps, but I’d trade Robertson and Betances for Masterson and Hagadone straight up if offered.

        • I Remember Celerino Sanchez says:

Fine, I exaggerated a bit. Melancon and ManBan? Whatever, it’s not enough for VMart. And, more to the point, the Indians would have insisted on Hughes/AJax to make that deal to the Yanks.

I know I’m being irrational. It just feels like the league is either stuck in a 20-year time warp and thinks the Yanks will stupidly drop their top prospects for other team’s cast-offs (I know you want to write “Ken Phelps!” tjsc), or there is an attitude of, “Fuck the Yanks, they can sign CC, A.J. and Tex in the off-season, so I’m sure as hell not trading with them unless they pay $1.50 on the dollar.”

And you know, I’d almost be fine with either of those scenarios, if they weren’t giving people to the Sox for $.75 on the dollar.

          Rant … done.

    • Salty Buggah says:

Indians = Dumbasses…that’s complete bullshit. Masterson gets crushed by lefties and hagadone is so far away. Horrible trade if that’s the case. You need at least one more prospect in there.

  6. lily-bk says:

wow this shit really sucks. red sox just got better by adding v=martinez. and what did the yankees do absolutely nothing. no staring pitcher or reliever.

  7. Tank the Frank says:

1:47pm: ESPN’s Jayson Stark says the price for Bannister is similar to that of Jarrod Washburn – “big league-ready starter, pitching prospect with upside.” He says the Yanks maintain mild interest.

Does that mean both a big league starter AND prospect?

  8. John Duci says:

Its really fucking pissing me off how the Sox held onto Bucholz and still got V-Mart. Thats bullshit, fuck you Cleveland.

    • Hova says:

Agree 100%. If we asked for him, they would have asked for at least Joba or Hughes.

Like I said above. I don’t care anymore. Spend spend spend. Buy every freaking player that hits the market. Stupid fans from other teams want to complain about us buying everyone? Well other teams get guys like Washburn and VMart for pennies on the dollar, while they impose a “Yankee tax” on our team.

After the 2010 season, I want the Yankees to add at the minimum Carl Crawford and Roy Halladay.

    • Tank the Frank says:

Might as well ask for Sizemore in exchange for Z-Mac, A-Jax, Melancon, and WDLR.

It’s right in line with the rest of their trades. No major leaguers. No # 1 prospects.

  9. GG says:

This whole financial constraints thing is really interesting, I guess this is what its like to be the fan of some other team

  10. CR says:

Last minute deal – montero, jackson, zmac and dunn for Halladay. Would you do it??

  11. CR says:

Deal is done for Sox – Martinez for Masterson, Hagadone and Price (AA pitcher). Seems a little light.

  12. nathan says:

Anyone else getting a scrambled chat window, i also get a loading error.

  13. yankeegirl49 says:

Yanks got Jerry Hairston Jr. Start the parade now LOL

  14. p2 says:

The Red Sox owners had some nerve tagging the phrase Evil Empire on the Yankees. They have become what they have criticized. How many legitimate 1B do they have now?

  15. p2 says:

Jerry Hairston Jr is actually a good pickup, no? He can take the place of Ransom.

    • Alfred says:

I hate ransom! He’s garbage and JoeRardi, clueless bastard he is, should have Pena up in the majors. Why have prospects who have shown they can play in the bigs when ur not goin to play em.? How the hec is Ransom up and Pena down? Cant wait for this clueless mgr to get fired or quit… imagine where we’d be with a GOOD, COMPETENT MGR??????????

  16. Alfred says:

Jerry Hairston…? SMH! WE NEEDED A RELIEVER AND OR A STARTER!!! Pettite makes me cringe when he pitches and he’s a long man disguised as a starter. Joba just hasn’t shown much as a starter and Hughes, albeit great as a reliever, is a STARTER!!! THE ONE WE NEED NOW!!! And all this Cashman idiot does is get JERRY F***N HAIRSTON?!!!

    • Charlie says:

      is this a joke?

    • For lack of a more creative name... Alex says:

Why are you mad about getting Hairston? Cash didn’t do this move to put us over the edge in the AL East. He just got a significant upgrade over Cody Ransom.
-Joba had a 2.76 ERA as a starter last year and a 3.58 this year.
-We WILL get a pitcher off a waiver wire move in August.

  17. yankeegirl49 says:

How do Yankees fans have the nerve to complain about what Boston does, when most of our recent championships come from buying other teams players. Imagine us in a salary cap sport, earning our wins instead of buying them. Second level team.
