Gardner out longer than expected

By

Earlier this week, the Yanks updated the world with their plans on Brett Gardner, and we overlooked that news. Basically, Gardner is going to be out for longer than originally expected. The doctor told him this week to keep his splint on for another seven days. With this delay, it is unlikely that the Yanks’ speedster will see action prior to September 1 but should be back by Labor Day. In reality, though, as long as Gardner is healthy enough to run for the Yankees in October, he’ll be available to play a big role for the team in the playoffs.

I just want him to be perfectly healthy come playoff time.

  2. Dela G says:

yeah i would love for him to run on the red sox in september when they come back to the stadium

  3. Jake H says:

Gardner could play a huge part in October.

Kind of sucks, hopefully that thing heals up right with the slpint on.

With no “real” backup centerfielder, I wonder if it is a given that Ajax will get a substantial amount of starts to spell Melkster. Centerfield is probably one of the tougher positions to play on the legs, day in day out (aside from catcher). Melk could surely use the rest and I’m not too content with J-Hair out there 2 times a week.

but if he’s not on the roster come September 1 he can’t be on the pl…..oh forget it..the yankees will make up somekind of injury on someone

    • He’s on the DL. He’s perfectly eligible for the post-season. They don’t need to “make up” some kind of injury.

    • jsbrendog says:

i thought if you were on the roster at any point you were eligble for the playoff roster.

      • Ed says:

To be eligible you have to be on the 25 man roster, the major league DL, the bereavement list, or the suspended list on August 31. (Thanks Ben for the full list)

If you don’t meet that criteria, you can still possibly be on the postseason roster as long as you are in the organization by August 31 (essentially, September acquisitions don’t count)

Players eligible for the postseason but on the disabled list may be replaced on the postseason roster by anyone else in the organization by August 31. The date a player is added to the disabled list is irrelevant here. Wang and Nady can both be replaced on the postseason roster. Someone disabled on the last day of the season – or even during the postseason – can be replaced as well.

If by healthy enough to “run” you mean “start in centerfield because he’s the better defender and gets on base more than Melky Cabrera” I wholeheartedly agree.

  7. Bill R says:

Why is it that ONLY The Yankees players constantly have set backs!?

  8. Bo says:

It would be nice if they had someone that could play some CF to spell Melky.

  9. whitey says:

I don’t care if he can spell Melky:), I want Gardner back to start!:)

  10. Joba or Hughes-To-the-pen says:

Who cares about Brett Gardner. What is he a .226 avg hitter for he’s carrer?Just like Cody Ransom and Shelly Duncan many Yankees love these bad Yankee prospects.

Care about Marte coming back not crappy Brett Gardner.
