Nah, we usually start up a new thread after 300-350 comments.
I just meant in relation to the last open thread spill over.
Ah, my bad. Yeah I wasn’t around that night.
TWSS?

Melancon seems REALLY happy to be Batman.

No, Reggie, winning a title in 2009 with Hughes in the bullpen will NOT convince Brian Cashman to keep the status quo and leave Hughes in the pen for 2010, thus necessitating adding another starter.
Cashman’s been 100% rock solid on the fact that both Phil and Joba are starting pitchers. Phil will not be in the bullpen in 2010. The two of them will join CC and AJ in the 2010 rotation. The only question that remains is will the 5th member be Pettitte or not.
did cashman tell you he wouldnt change his mind. or that hank or hal wouldnt change it for him.
Oh boy. I’m getting my popcorn ready.
Should I cue up the “Scott Feldman” line? Or the “different era” line? Or the “arbitrary” line?
It’s getting to the point where we’re going to be paralyzed by having TOO MUCH primo material…
Go with arbitrary. We used different era a lot in the last thread
Hank and Hal are smart enough to trust Cashman as their baseball man and go with his decision.
(Well, Hal is, at least, but he overrules Hank, so that part of it is moot.)
Maybe if you post the Yankees as Godfather characters list, he’ll get it.

i have no idea what any of this means. get back to me when you make one for scarface characters.
Why am I not surprised that you like Scarface better than the Godfather. Utterly unshocking.
Didn’t we recently have a conversation about how ridiculously overrated Scarface is?
The Godfather…the only time in history that a great film has a sequel that is just as good if not better.
overrated? you have to be joking. it is one of my favorite movies all time. it is unreal how good it is. once it was made the godfather was overshadowed immediately. i refuse to see that relic of old gangster movies.

Matt ACTY/BBD says:
Didn’t we recently have a conversation about how ridiculously overrated Scarface is?
Probably.
Scarface is either the best bad movie ever or the worst good movie ever. One way or the other.
This much is true, though: If I was marooned on a desert island with a VCR and two tapes, one being The Godfather and the other being Scarface, I’d use the tape from the Scarface cassette as a pulley in a complicated, Swiss-Family-Robinson style bicycle power generation machine to watch The Godfather all day long on my VCR.
I didn’t see The Godfather until these guys pushed me to see it last fall. It’s absolutely amazing and one of the three best movies I’ve ever seen.
Scarface is entertaining, but it doesn’t even hold a candle to The Godfather. Do yourself a favor and see it, then see number two.
alex gonzalez says:

If only there was a way to quantify how good Scarface is, eh? Sadly, just like Dwight Gooden’s 1985 campaign, there is no way at all to measure how good things are. None.
Also, if you watched The Godfather and came away thinking it was just a gangster movie, you have missed the point by about as far as one can miss a point.
Matt:
Yeah I thought about star wars as soon as I posted that.
so:
the
onlyfirst time in history that a great film has a sequel that is just as good if not better.fine i guess i will see it. if only to realize what a great movie that scarface is.
Not only is The Godfather better than Scarface…
Scarface is better than Scarface.

ICWUDT.
Carl Pavano = Appolonia
Perfetto.
Levine as Fredo is perfect. Torre doesn’t deserve that good of a role though.
Sure, he does. Pentangeli is PERFECT for Torre. Think about it.
+5
cashman also said our starting first baseman was nick swisher.
He also said our CF was Bubba Crosby, then BOOM Johnny Damon happened
right so who is to say he doesn’t say hughes is our fifth starter. then boom, we have brandon webb and hughes is a setup man.
Because those are comments made during the offseason designed to act as a smokescreen for free agent negotiations.
The “Joba and Phil are starters” line is a constant and persistent refrain across the entire organization that doesn’t have any significant reason for it to be doubted.
it could be a smokescreen for an offseason move with free agent negotiations. how can you say it may not be.
Except that there isn’t anyone out there who is worth a big contract. Webb isn’t guaranteed to be a FA anyways, and if he is a FA, be concerned
Smokescreens are temporary not long term. The Yankees have never wavered from Joba/Phil being starters. If it was a smokescreen, the smoke would have cleared by now, and that sure hasn’t happened.
maybe it was a real policy at one point. then they saw what kind of starter joba is and how hughes is in the bullpen. maybe they then changed their minds.
it could be a smokescreen for an offseason move with free agent negotiations. how can you say it may not be.
Smokescreens don’t last 3 years long.

I’ll start taking you seriously when you start presenting some evidence.
Evidence? What about what he sees with his own (two I presume) eyes?
Just stop responding to him. It’s much easier than taking him seriously.
what evidence do you have other than cashman saying so. no one knows what this organization will do. not even some of the people in it. i just hope they make the right decisions before it is too late. who knows though. the game is changing from cashman’s style.
my eyes told me so
the game is changing from cashman’s style.
What does this even mean?
it means he the team he built, that won 95 games with 2 weeks left to go in the season, obviously sucks
when i say cashmans style i mean his team construction. does he ever consider how chemistry of a team is going to work. i just hope that he doesnt have those basement statheads trying to figure everything out for him now rather than someone who can watch a game and get a sense for what is going on in the game. box score watchers never know as much as someone at the game. if i had 200 million dollars i could make a team that would win 100 games. i would look a lot towards chemistry and guys who know how to win in the playoffs. a lot people can get to the playoffs. it takes a special kind to win in the playoffs. gene michael knew what he was doing when he made those teams years ago. i like that and the torre years. the fabrics of the game were altered in those years by that one man.
Can you please tell us what A-Rod did to you that you hate him with such passion? Did he snub you for an autograph? Intercept a package of Pettitte’s HGH in the mail? Kill a dog? Cost your favorite pitcher a win?
No clue. None.
my dislike is related to a personal experience but it is beyond that.
Winning leads to chemistry
Chemistry doesn’t necessarily lead to winning
did the san francisco giants have chemistry in 2002.

Reggie Jackson and Billy Martin once fought in the dugout.
did the san francisco giants have chemistry in 2002.
Your obsession with the 2002 Giants is fascinating. Especially since you keep using them to illustrate your points and they’re always wrong; the 2002 Giants always illustrate how your points are incorrect. As I’m sure they will here, as well.
You’re fascinating.

I think he is trying to argue that because the 2002 Giants had Cody Ransom on their team, they made it to the World Series. And since we also had Cody Ransom on the team, we too will win lots of games and go far in the playoffs.
‘if i had 200 million dollars i could make a team that would win 100 games. i would look a lot towards chemistry and guys who know how to win in the playoffs.’
really? id love to see your roster
really? id love to see your roster
Yeah, he’ll post it as soon as he has the time to post it.
*cough*bullshit*cough*
‘if i had 200 million dollars i could make a team that would win 100 games. i would look a lot towards chemistry and guys who know how to win in the playoffs.’
And my team that focused on strikeout pitchers, a dominant closer, and high-OBP players with good defense up the middle + power and OBP in the corners would annihilate your team.
“And my team that focused on strikeout pitchers, a dominant closer, and high-OBP players with good defense up the middle + power and OBP in the corners would annihilate your team.”
Hmmm, I think I’ve seen this year with those qualities.
Damnit. *a team this year
Didn’t Bonds and Kent hate each other so much that they never talked? I also seem to remember some altercation in the dugout.
I think Jeter and Arod hate each other more no?
Plus the whole team hates Joba. Posada doesnt like AJ. Swisher talks too much. The pies arent professional. CC doesnt want to be in NY. Cano is lazy. Tex just took the money.
Um i think i covered all the chemistry ‘problems’ on the Yankees.
gene michael knew what he was doing when he made those teams years ago. i like that and the torre years. the fabrics of the game were altered in those years by that one man.
World Series as GM:
Brian Cashman: 3
Gene Michael: 0
Yes, but Michael altered the fabrics of the game.
Just like George Costanza.
Different era.
And completely apples and oranges.
At the time, he was.
right, so right now hughes is a starter for next year. but when next year comes around he may be in the bullpen. things change between seasons. people make moves during the offseason.
How many times did he say that, and how many times did he say that Joba and Phil are starters and the organizational plan focuses on developing them as starters?
It’s an intensity and a plausibility issue.
so the more he says something the realer it makes it. if he yells something does that add to the legitimacy.
no that only works for sean hannity
Leave politics out of this. Plus Bill O’Reilly, Rush Limbaugh, and Mark Lavin all do more yelling than Hannity.
since its an open thread pretty sure i can bring in whatever i want. he was in my mind cause i saw him on tv 20 minutes ago, its a big deal, it was a joke.
Im not being a jerk or anything, just sayin that people get sensitive about politics over here.
its not*
people get more worked up about Joba than they do politics
Also, getting another starter most likely (and should) means the end of Andy Pettitte’s tenure as a Yankee, not Phil Hughes’ departure from starter to reliever.
Only situations where Joba and/or Phil go to the pen
For 1 of the 2 to go to the pen:
The Yankees mysteriously and miraculously obtain Zach Grienke AND Roy Halladay
For both:
The Yankees mysteriously and miraculously obtain Zach Grienke AND Roy Halladay AND Felix Hernandez
Actually, I think just acquiring Greinke would be enough for one of them to go to the pen.
The trade for Greinke would probably include at least one of Joba or Hughes. After KC got them, they would immediately be put in the pen to set up for Soria.
No, KC would keep Joba or Hughes in the rotation. They may be dumb, but they’re not THAT dumb.
Dayton Moore is still there.
Not even Dayton Moore is dumb enough to trade Zack Greinke for an elite young pitching prospect and then put that prospect in the bullpen. The good, kind, patient people of Kansas City would assassinate him.
So you’re saying there is a chance?
So basically a string of impossible events would have to occur before one of the two wound up in the bullpen.
Yes. You’d have to build a Rube Goldberg machine.
Hank’s a nobody in the organization. The media runs to him because they want quotes, but he hasn’t had a say in the baseball ops for two seasons now.
And hasn’t given the media his new phone number, so the media has stopped running to him. When is the last time he said….anything?
I doubt the Yanks are going to pick up a reliever on the market. Lots of down years from good relievers all around and Valverde is going to get paid more money elsewhere.
I’m not advocating the status quo should the Yanks win the WS. But i wouldnt be surprised if Cash simply said: “We’re sticking with what works.” Especially should someone like B-Webb hit the market , i think sticking with the quo makes it easier.
if Cash wanted to keep things ‘easy’ he wouldnt just kept Joba in the pen. but obviously thats not his plan, he wants to try to get the full potential out of both arms.
DRob and Ace stepped up this year, someone will next year.
If B-Webb hits the market, and he’s got good medicals, and Cash is like “Holy fuckballs, I HAVE to have this guy, he’d get him.
And he’d then NOT resign Andy Pettitte, because he already has his 5-man rotation: CC, AJ, Webb, Joba, and Hughes.
Hughes will NOT stay in the bullpen for 2010. Not. Gonna. Happen.

That was the worst pass ever.
Followed by a crappy kick.
That Red Zone possession = Cano against Olson today.
No, I’m pretty sure that probably happened in the Raiders-Chiefs game.
That pass had nothing on it .. maybe it slipped from his hand. Definitely a weird moment in a fine game from Eli till that point.
Does anyone love Jerry Jones more than Jerry Jones?
“A lot of people died in the tsunami, but don’t worry, I didn’t.”
Heh.
wow, can i see some Giants Defense?
Romo EPIC FAIL
Steve Smith just Wayne Brady’d Orlando Scandrick.
Steve Smith, ftw.
Now play defense.
Steve Smith just broke some ankles.
Mario Manningham is bringing some srs pwn tonight.
My favorite football term:
“Sluggo”
Manningham is good
Giants Defense working hard on this drive. Got a sick feeling the ‘Boys running game is gonna come up with another TD.
OH SHIT YOU SAID IT AND THEN IT HAPPENED
Two words: BRANDON. WEBB.
i’ll start taking pats on the back this time next year.
Yeah, who cares about that, say something worthwhile that we really want.
Tell me that I’m about to have a threeway with Esther Baxter and Melyssa Ford.
but Melyssa ford drives a Honda Accord ….
you can do waaay better

(stunned)
http://gallery.celebritypro.co.....andy-5.jpg
Yep.
Still alot of time left on the clock though. Just need a FG guys…
For that, Reggie, I hope Luke Scott spontaneously combusts.
my pants just got tighter. … uhh… no homo?
I starting to hate Collinsworth. Is this guy an ex-Cowboy or something? There’s an annoying pitch to his voice whenever he names a Cowboy player.
Meh, he’s just smarmy. He’s like that all the time, it’s part of his charm (apparently).
Eli is on fiyah! Just need a FG now.
C’mon G-Men. YA’LL SOOOOOOOO CLOSE !! FINISH IT!
The Cowboys CBs are getting cut up by Steve Smith and Mario Manningham.
You heard me.
Here we go! cmon baby!
Only Mike Shannahan can successfully freeze a kicker.
talk about icing a kicker! damn it!!!!
JEFF FEAGLES = WIN.
ERGH — TYNES = WIN
mixed up my kickers right der.
Hardy Win Fellas. hardy win.
I was all “I wonder if he’ll be able to hold the snap and get it set up properly for the kick”, but then I remembered that Tony Romo wasn’t the Giants holder, and I realized that it would be fine.
http://www.theonion.com/conten.....ets_eating
Yeah!!
maybe they should send Tony Romo to the AFL, he obviously thinks he has a roster spot locked up no matter what.
AFL folded, no? UFL works though
crap you’re right. when does that UFL start anyways?
I think it starts on the first Sunday of Who Cares.
Good news for the Giants: You just beat your archrival in a big divisional game.
Bad news for the Giants: Tom Coughlin isn’t taking you out for steaks and blowjobs.
Oddly enough, Coughlin’s ringtone is actually the sound of him punching a homosexual. Funny how that works.
Lawrence Tynes just beat the Cowboys twice.
Oh man, what a game. That shaved a few months off my life for sure.
in all serious though, eli made that drive happen. btw, if there was a ufc type fight between mark sanchez and eli manning, who do you think would win? My money is on sanchez.
btw, if there was a ufc type fight between mark sanchez and eli manning, who do you think would win?
Nick Swisher.
Nick Swisher is currently ranked 12th in the AP college football poll.
Big Pharma and the HMO lobby give the Yankees money to pay Nick Swisher’s salary to keep him from fixing healthcare.
Nick Swisher performs a tumbleroll when he enters any room. Not for protection, but because it looks cool as hell.
Now ….
Is Justin Tuck going to be alright? Flozell Cheapshot Adams pulled a bitch move with that trip.
They should have saved all of that money and bought a new qb instead.
i’m sure this has been mentioned, but Joba’s comments after the game were just crazy. there’s something wrong with the way he approaches the game. i’ve defended him and i still think he can be good, but someone pitching this badly and not admitting it at all needs to get some tips from a guy like burnett or something. i really can’t stand joba anymore
I love how people kill Joba when he says stuff, yet, when AP says “I only made one mistake” (while giving up 4+ runs), or tries to blame homers on the stadium, no one even thinks twice about it.
Joba is not a wordsmith. Do people really need for him to say “not only am I embarrassed for not helping my team, but I suck. I’m the worst pitcher ever. They should demote me. I eat babies. I can’t take one positive out of this game or out of this season.”
Holy Mo.
So you’d rather him go out there and be like “Oh man, I fucking sucked today.” And that would solve what, exactly?
It would make me FEEL better! I could be righteously angry!
