Now do your thing Mo.
The offense really saved Joba and Girardi tonight.
Girardi? What did he do wrong?
He made CC Sabathia hang an 0-2 slider after getting Utley to swing and miss at the first two. He also made Joba Chamberlain throw that fastball not far enough inside.
SI.com says that was A-Rod’s biggest hit of his career. Thoughts?
WTF, WHY DOES THIS HAPPEN?
Never say die.
As soon as I saw Johnny battling, I knew it wasnt over.
This team doesnt die. 3 more.
MO-NEY TIME!
Damon with a single and 2 SBs, Teixeira gets on with HBP, and ARod singled in the go-ahead run. (h/t Murti)
Hilarious!
Seriously, no matter what, A-Rod is a “True Yankee” now and no one can EVER deny that
Whoops forgot to add thats Scott Boras’ lead come true!
He’s been a true Yankee ever since he was traded for Alfonso Soriano.
HIP HIP!!!! someone on here posted earlier that the Yanks would win 7-4….that dude is the maaaaaan!!!
We shall see.
Right now, I’m liking our chances.
/Understate’d
FN EPIC!
Nice job Po, another bonehead running mistake!
/syke’d
Give this man a plaque in Monument Park.
Did ARod just earn his stripes?
He earned them with that hr off Nathan.
I think he just just earned a few extra ones.
He’s a fucking zebra now.
And if not that, fuentes. and if not that, the huge homer yesterday. he’s beyond earned it.
No! Until he wins other 3 World Series for NY, he will not be a “true” Yankee.
/Dumbass’d
/Brazilian Yankee’d
(based on reading the comments this postseason)
Why are the Yankees going to win the World Series?
Cause we are the balls.
The Centaur strikes again
I lol’ed
This team is all that and a bag of chips.
It’s not a homer but maybe he’s Mr. November.
unreal. my wife broke out the defibulator and i live!
fibula is a bone in your shin-did she brake it? If so, then you needed a defibrillator
Kate Hudson owes ARod her back door for that one.
IETC
Yankee wives = open season after this.
His teammates love winning.
3 more outs.
From thread number zero:
Prediction Time:
Sabathia 6-2/3 IP, 2 ER, 4 H, 3 BB, 8 K. 108 Pitches. Win.
Blanton 5-1/3 IP, 6 R (5 ER), 9 H, 2 BB, 3 K. 85 Pitches. Loss.
Final Score: 7-4, Yanks.
Mo knows. Oh yes, Mo knows.
Listen to Brother Joe D.
Prophet.
thread number 0?
Yah, I figured I’d call it Thread #0 to differentiate it from the first spillover thread (“Thread #1″?)
Sorry, I majored in Computer Science back in the day. Force of habit.
JOLTIN’ JOE, I love it!
Pretty damn close, man.
There have been so many awesome moments in this postseason.
This team is too good. They are invincible.
Foolish Phillies, you can’t ice Mo by making home come out to U2.
Joba is in line for the most undeserved win ever.
He prefers that we just call it “the vulture.”
I really think Jorge let them throw him out so we could get this over with and I could get some sleep….THANKS JORGE
We got this baby. Tomorrow, time to tee off on Cliff Lee.
Shhhhh.
That inning was either going to be remembered as the re-birth of Lidge (and the “choke” of A-Rod) or the arrival of A-Rod (and the death of Lidge).
It was sooooo the arrival.
Joba will get the win
that’s just wrong
Yankees will get the win, that is right
I stand corrected
Very Very Wrong!!
But he did get 2 K’s before giving up that homer…
Maybe they can give him 2 Holds instead of a Win?
Hooooooooo!
That was a serious inning. I love how there were no shots of Manuel guffawing in the dugout. And Joe Buck sounded so sad…
I hope Leche is ok.
Any word?
Arod puts the “no to you phillies” in november.
Whoever predicted this game 2 or 3 threads ago was ridiculously close thus far….
We shouldn’t have gotten so worked up about Manuel’s comments about Rivera. He’s just so used to watching Lidge that he thinks all closers are garbage. Poor Uncle Charlie.
But…but…but… based on 3 saves in “TEH POSTSEASON” he’s back!
It just doesn’t get any more exciting than this. The only thing better than this fantastic level of competition is to see the Yanks win #27.
You just can’t ask for better baseball than this.
A-YANKEE
TRUTH!!!!
Looks like the Phillies will test Charlie Manuel’s theory.
THAT’S HOW WE ALWAYS FUCKING DO IT. Who’s surprised? Who doubted that shit was going to happen? I didn’t.
Everyone was saying the L.
So pathetic that they always have more confidence in our opponent than us.
2 to go.
2 more.
2 outs
3-1 here we come!
2 more
Jimmy Rollins: “I meant Yankees in 5.”
A-RING
Anyone who jumped off the bandwagon after game 1…. PLEASE STAY OFF.
NEVER DIE
bingo
Lidge’s confidence must be shot now too.
Not to mention his manager’s in him.
“Not to mention his manager’s in him.” … is that why they call him Uncle Charlie?
/disturbing’d?
seriously, why would some of you ever give up on this team?
Exit light. Enter night. Take my hand, Jimmy Rollins. You’re off to Never-Never land.
ONE MORE!
Is it not the height of irony that a fat guy’s last name is “Stairs”
i wonder how the greatest hitter in the world, matt stairs, would do against joe saunders’ unhittable demeanor?
Once again Joe Buck sounds like his dog just died. One more out.
J-Roll sure has Mo figured out, doesn’t he.
1 more for 3-1 come on Mo
Rollins has figured out how to pop-up against Mo
One of these days he’s going to hit a flyball to the outfield.
Is that the best you got Jimmy?
Boy Rollins hit the shit out of that one!
One more out.
Alright. Hawaii 5-No is the last batter. RIP Phillies.
girardi has done fine tonight. joba just left a pitch down the middle. offense came thru…
Disagree. But thank Mo these are the Yankees, and they don’t need competent managing to win.
What are you claiming Girardi did wrong?
Only one thing. Mariano should be in for 6 outs there. I did not see that home run coming, and I was hoping Joba would get it done. But he should not have been in, with a one run lead, for any of those hitters. Mariano Rivera is possibly the greatest pitcher ever, and he should be in. The only reason not to use him for more than 3 outs is that you’re leaving some in the tank for tomorrow. This is wrong. This was the pivotal game, the game we needed to win, to win this series. Managing this game with even the slightest consideration for tomorrow’s game, based on the circumstances in this series in terms of the games and the pitching matchups (adv. yanks today, adv. phils tomorrow), was completely wrong.
Rollins really smacking the ball
now it’s official
of the 8 playoff teams, 7 closers now have blown saves
Mo = deity
not sure that was a save oppurtunity……was it?
yes–he pitched a full inning
1 out away. Praise be to Mo.
Joe Buck sounded like his favorite dog died when he said “take a commanding 3-1 lead”
Watch and learn, Lidge, watch and learn.
Pedro Feliz just saw his statue next to Rocky disappear before his eyes.
SUCK IT PHILLIES FANS !!
Your win over my G-Men has not gone unpunished!
well we know headcase Lidge is shot for the rest of the series
lmao… ESPN headline:
A-Rod again…
boo-ya baby!
A.J. v Lee tomorrow? Could be a L but I am so confident.
COULD BE A MOTHERFUCKIN W, BUDDY!!!!!!!
#27 is happening.
“By the way, Brad Lidge told me Tuesday at Media Day that the Phils believed they could pitch effectively to Alex. So far he’s been right. Of course, we haven’t seen Lidge in a game yet.” – Kim Jones in the chat from the other day
The Yankees win!
GAME BITCHES!
Jug-you-ler.
Ball game over! Yankees win!! THHHHHEEEEE Yankees Win!!!
Thus ended the lesson.
I can’t wait to see the Philly papers tomorrow… screenshots please!
So many sad faces with their ugly red hats. Makes me feel good.
So many ugly faces with their sad red hats. Makes me feel good.
(fixed that for you~)
ONE.
MORE.
GAME.
You can’t fuck with us. Mo is the best ever.
WOO! One win away, boys. Don’t bother letting it come back to the stadium, we can wait to see you until the parade.
A-ROD!
Well that was a great game.
We have deities on the Yankees.
The Phillies try their best but they just can’t steal our fire.
Whoops! I guess he (and the rest of the Phasn’t figured out Mo yet…
WIN! Hell YEA!!!!!!
Wow. Infuckingcredible. I love this team.
And that was the moment Phillies fans have been dreading since June, right?
Also, I almost hope Lee does his job tomorrow, because I fear for their safety if they win the Series here.
ah the look of defeat on thier faces sooooooooooooo worth it
Abso-F&**kin-lutely great. This team is awesome.
8 pitch save. Uh, Charlie Manuel, I don’t think your Phillies can hit Mariano Rivera.
Holy shit what a fucking game! Joe Buck sounds heartbroken. Poor wittle guy. Artie Lange must be loving it.
Yup, and speaking of A-Rod drilling pitches, he should drill one into the booth to get him.
I even believe they’ll get to Lee tomorrow.
Go AJ~
WE.
WILL.
NOT.
BE.
STOPPED.
He’s not here, so had to help out.
I can almost smell it
Start spreadin’ the news and chillin’ the champagne… 27 is now my favorite number.
I’ve had “27″ in my work password for 2 years now… very soon I’m gonna have to change it to “28″.
Fuck yeah!!!!
Charlie Manuel: “we can hit Mariano Rivera”
immediately after that statement locuts devoured his crops and his liquour turned to blood.
Moral of the story?…NEVER insult God.
1 More baby!!
Hell, f’ing yeah! Man, that was some game. Some rollercoaster. Some, Never Say Die!
hope those philly fans go back and read rollins’ remarks about how they got rivera figured out. fuck off punk!
LET’S FINISH THIS TOMORROW!!
I’ve got a good feeling.
Lets see what bullshit ass excuses Manuel and the rest of the Phillies will have now!!
Maybe they’ll throw Lidge under the bus. It is the possible the herd, with backs against the wall, will turn one of their own.
if they win the WS tomo when is the victory parade? Wednesday?
That’s what, 13 pitches for six outs in the last 24 hours? This Mo guy is gonna have a bright future in baseball.
Jimmy Rollins, any comments on your prediction for the Series?
YANKEES IN 5
BONG
I’m glad Mo was able to over come the Phil’s figuring him out. Whewwwwww…
can joe sound more depressed
Jimmy Rollins you do mean the Yanks will close it out on your home?
a-rod was pissed they hit him so many times.
made them pay.
That had to feel great for him.
1 more Yanksssss
“The tenacious at bat of Johnny Damon” … well put, Alex.
i LOVE listening to a-rod talk. you can tell he learns new words every couple weeks and tries to drop them into conversation as much as possible
“You’re one win away from stop getting drilled.”
“I hope so.”
Can we give the MVP award to Brad Lidge? Its so much fun seeing him fail. Love it.
Is Fox finally gonna give Johnny some love?
mvp so far?
Burnett? Mo?
I think it has to be Mo.
Mo.
but…an outstanding, world series clinching performance by AJ – even if Mo saved it – I feel would merit AJ the MVP award.
Absolutely. If AJ goes, let’s say, 7 IP 2ER tomorrow, and they win, I think he should get it.
None right now in my opinion.
MO
If Burnett dominates tomorrow, I’d give it to him. Otherwise, Mo.
Charlie Manuel.
Ryan Howard.
I hope A-Rod dominates tomorrow so he can get it.
Rosenthal: You’re one win away from not being drilled anymore.
Confused A-Rod: …Let’s hope so.
Yea..thought AROD answer that perfect..
The team needs to get his back and hit the ball…only way they are going to get back at the phillies (like they did in the 9th
)
a-rod = god
Johnny… thanks for everything tonight!
You really kept your head up after that tough first serious..and you carried us this game!
Phillies in 5? Not so much.
Phillies in 6? Not so much.
Phillies in ain’t gonna happen.
FUCK YEAH!
This team is like a Boa Constrictor. Relentless.
Jimmy sure handled Mariano.
Fucking jackass.
Brad Lidge = true Yankee
yanks in 5, lidge will be awarded WS MVP
Should the Yanks be nice and let this go to six?
Will Philly set itself on fire if the yanks beat them on their turf?
I love gentrification!
Stay classy RAB.
Being here pitch by pitch with you guys makes the WS that much better.
See you guys tomorrow night !
+1,000,000,000,000
It was worth the Joba HR because it makes the victory all the much sweeter for the Yankees, and bitter for the Phillies and their fans.
And hopefully it’ll teach Joba to stick with the fastball if its been utterly overpowering.
The homer was on a fastball.
Yeah, but after getting ahead 1-2, he threw two poor sliders. Then at 3-2, everyone knew the fastball was coming. He took a little off it, and didn’t locate it well.
Agreed, that was the key to the at bat, he needed to go with the fastball on 1-2 and 2-2. it worked against werth and ibanez.
Agreed.
Steaks and blowjobs for everyone, Joba’s paying!
LET’S HEAR IT FOR NEW YORK, NEW YORK, NEW YORK.
Haha, A-Rod the hottest topic on Twitter right now.
remember when the Phillies figured out Mariano Rivera?
5 outs over 2 days and only 13 pitches thrown
Haha.
he was misquoted, the quote left out they they had figured out how to hit popups
Can you believe that ESPN is still showing coverage of the NFL?
I mean come on !!!
finally !!
Its only the fucking world series
Annoying, yes. But don’t even let it get to you.
Our time will be here tomorrow night.
I’m not, but damn how many times are they going to talk about Brett Favre.
They totally suck I can’t believe they call themselves the world leader in sports what a joke.
ESPN is making themselves friggin’ irrelevant in baseball!!
That asian girl on Fox 5 news has a nice rack.
My wife knows i have a thing for her…
She is very skinny too.. wonder if they are real:)
Ok focus on the post game
I officially have a case of the vapors.
clearly a victory for the phillies because mo had to come out and throw 8 pitches.
Such fucking brilliance, I’m basically speechless.
Damon was so fucking clutch today.
Just back from my cousin’s – watched the Giants lay a Giant egg… then this. Mo, I love this team.
Damon unhinged Lidge… then Alex and Jorge come through in the biggest way. No way not to love this – but to quote Howie Rose from 1994, there’s one more hill to climb
Joba gets the win. He didn’t deserve it but was anyone else actually really encouraged be what we saw from him? He was throwing gas and looked dominant except for that one pitch.
yes. location on that pitch killed him. but we saw some of the old joba there.
Hid attitude is totally Joba, but he’s still missing three mph on his fastball. He used to be 98-100 out of the pen.
Since thats probably his last outing this year( only AJ and Mo will pitch tomorrow) It will be interesting to see what Joba’s velocity is next season.
go to YES for the postgame. Charlie Manuel up at the mike. Cranky bastard.
Ozzie Guillen: Phillies in ten!
A moment of silence for Brad Lidge’s career. Again.
I’m so glad Lidge was put in there … I knew he couldn’t contain the Yankees.
Ozzie Guillen called it: Phillies in 10
it’s a fricken even number, of all the numbers he could have picked
The angry, cranky manager of the Phillies now speaking.
Heh.
Pedro is not so Feliz anymore.
Nicely done.
I got tuesday off (gotta love teacher’s schedule), if they win tomorrow night i am getting hammered!
wow Charlie Manuel is pissed
Does Charlie Manuel have a cohesive thought or a cohesive sentence? He belongs in a home.
You mean that’s not Roscoe P. Coltrain?
He sounds like a vet describing how he watched his platoon die
I love Bobby V. He makes sportscenter watchable.
I know its already a done deal but would you guys feel better with Gaudin in Game 5 and a rested AJ in Game 6?? Im still a bit worried if Yankees lose Game 5 about Pettitte on short rest in Game 6.
No thanks. Let’s stomp on them.
Gaudin v Lee is a joke.
Kay trying to bait A-Rod into saying something bad.
On ESPN, Bobby V. really upset that the Phils blew it, and then Ravech complains about how many “time outs” they took, regarding the mound trips. Nice, guys. Nice.
I’ve never found Bobby V. to be a Yankees-hater, I think you have to give him a little more leeway. Do you guys disagree? I’ve always, post-Mets of course, thought Bobby V. was fine towards the Yankees.
I agree. If anything, he’s been generally positive toward the Yankees and he’s sent a few messages over the years that he’d love to manage them.
TOTALLY agree.
Did Ravech really?
Jeebuz
Nah, Bobby V just said, “I’m sorry, but it looked like the Phillies let it get out of control, they needed a mound visit to get everything under control before the A-Rod AB.” And the “I’m sorry” seemed to be an apology for criticizing the Phillies, if that makes sense. Bobby’s rough around the edges, but he’s actually been pretty unbiased by ESPN standards.
Rough around the edges in the sense that he’s not that good on TV yet. He’s still a little uncomfortable. But youre right about Ravech, screw him.
You think? I think he’s pretty good on TV. He’s done it before, and he’s certainly not lacking for insight, confidence or personality.
No way, he certainly has insight, and he’s the smartest guy on there. I just think he’s too…smiley? And he talks for longer than he needs, and the transition away from him is always weird as a result.
Has he done TV before? Or do you mean as a manager? Because I think those are two very different beasts, press conferences as a manager and studio work.
I mean he’s done TV before, as a professional, not as a manger. He was definitely on ESPN at some point before this year, after his stint with the Mets. I think he was a Baseball Tonight guy at some point.
He’s just smarter and more witty than everyone else on ESPN so he stands out and looks weird to you. It’s just that he’s actually good, and is surrounded by horrendous idiocy.
I would really like someone with a BRAIN to realize that they were doing that because they thought the Phillies were stealing pitches. Like its not that fucking hard to figure it out. . .
Shit like that drives me nuts. Ravech is by far the biggest fucking red sox homer on that stupid station.
Let’s see. We play 7 months to get here, they may be stealing signs and the announcers are upset about conferences on the mound? Idiots. I hope it upsets whoever is batting as well. When Eiland comes out to the mound-you can read his lips-need to cover up better. I read his lips and he said-hurry up I wanna Hoagie….
Maybe Lidge should have gotten a trip or five.
So think the stadium is going to be open tomorrow?
Jeeezzzzz…Charlie Manuel is red as hell.
I have never seen Mo that fired up, EVER!
Manual is a sour-puss dickwad.
“I’ve answered that like 10 times in the past two days. Maybe 25 times.” (Talking about Cliff Lee pitching on 3 days rest)
hey, the yankees had a 3 run lead in the 9th, should Girardi have brought in Hughes?
no?
crickets….
+1
People complaining about going to Mo… sigh.
Abraham just killed on Twitter
http://twitter.com/PeteAbe/status/5355876108
He’s so witty.
this is amazing
Wow. John Kruk basically saying the Yankees out-teamworked the Phils.
Sick Sleeveless shirt Johnny
That was 7 1/2 innings of boring baseball, followed by 1 1/2 innings of thrillation!
I don’t think it’s all such a big deal, but with the Yankees now needing just one win, I wish they would give the ball to Gaudin tomorrow. Burnett on short rest is just not a good matchup vs Cliff Lee, but Burnett on an extra day’s rest, with Pettitte on regular rest available for setup work, vs Pedro, is very favorable.
There is really only one way the Yankees don’t win this World Series: they have three bad starts in a row. Throwing the next 3 guys on 3 days rest is one way to court just such a disaster.
hey dude, what’s up?
Ha, +27.
The 2009 Yankees are not the 2004 Yankees. The 2009 Yankees are going to win a 27th World Series.
that doesn’t mean you willingly concede a game.
Who’s talking about willingly conceding a game? I’m not. I go with the top 3 all on short rest, we’ll win one of those games.
That’s not true. If you’re trailing by 2 in the 6th, do you bring in Mo to close the game? Of course not. At some point, you do concede, because you need to value the next game more than the current game. The question is when do you concede?
The critical time is now, because, as unlikely as it is (and I started this by saying I don’t think it matters a whole lot), once Burnett takes the mound you run the risk of all 3 of those guys pitching sub-standard baseball. And that’s the only way the Yankees lose this series.
They are…but admit it now–there is some small chance that Burnett, Pettitte and CC all toss up stinkers against a really good hitting team. Now think, if Burnett pitches on 5 days rest instead of 3, with Pettitte behind him on 4 days if needed, against Pedro, in Yankee Stadium–how do they lose that game?
Yeah, and there’s a small chance Rivera bl… hahahaha, I can’t even type that.
Damon is jacked. Damn.
Ha, on ESPN Johnny just gave a pseudo shout-out to JoePos.
Yeah, that was a nice little gesture.
Johnny Damon has Rosenthal-itis; what an awkward interview he is.
Sounds like a former stutterer, which Im pretty sure he was. He’s learned not to speak until feels he can get it out.
Rosenthal just has no sense of rhythm.
Yeah, he was a former stutterer. I am too.
I didn’t know that.
I am an ass.
I am surprised you didn’t know. It’s come up here on RAB many times before and I know you are a RAB regualr. I give Johnny a LOT of credit for overcoming his difficulty.
Holy cow Gammons looks like he’s a skeleton. His nose is purple. Get him some hot tea, stat!
If we are winning tomorrow.. Mo pitches 2 innings..
AGREED. We play today, we win today. Mariano gives us the best chance to do that.
Kruk and Gammons are pathetic in their refusal to give the Yankees credit. Bobby V. says the Phillies’ poor performance isn’t a coincidence, that the Yanks are making them play that way. Fuckin’ right, Bobby.
Definitely agree with you. But hey, it’s all good if the Yanks close it out. Kruk’s a colossal waste of space.
Exactly!!!
the twins didnt play their game the angels didnt paly their game now the phillies arent playing their game give some credit tho the yanks
Right on can you believe that spin.
Kruk’s tantrums please me.
WAHHHHH!!! TEAMS KEEP MAKING MISTAKE AGAINST THE YANKEES!!! WAHHHHHH!!!
Mystique and Aura, bitches.
I can hear Kruk tomorrow:
“The 2008 Phillies would beat the 2009 Yankees.”
Damn, he didn’t even wait till tomorrow. He just said 2008 Lidge would strike out Damon in the 9th.
I can just picture trying to invent a time machine in his garage just for these situations.
Mystique and aura have nothing to do with it. The Yankees are just awesome.
Exactly. Mariano Rivera, Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez, Johnny Damon-these are Hall of Fame caliber players, playing their best. And everyone else follows their lead. That’s why we win.
Damon is borderline. Don’t get me wrong—I like JD, but if given a vote, I wouldn’t put him in The Hall.
Damon’s DNA strands should be a shoo-in to the HOF.
/Boras’d
If he gets to 3000 hits he is a shoe in. The hits, runs, and SB’s are sick.
And I forgot HR’s.
Jorge.
Is Melky OK? Did anyone hear what happened?
We. Got. This.
Good night.
Ravech: Lee’s going tomorrow, so there’s certainly enough to hang your hat on if you’re a phillies guy.
What a joke.
Christina. Park.
Nice.
Oh yeah. Me rikey.
Ravech and Kruk are painfully trying to make a case for the Phillies.
Bobby V. harping on Lidge for not throwing sliders to A-Rod. Love it. Kruk / Ravech making excuses for Lidge.
Gammons: ‘The Phillies aren’t playing, in this series, the way they played all year.’
(Implying that the Phillies are shitting the bed, discounting the value of the Yankees’ victories so far.)
Kruk: ‘I agree. None of the teams the Yanks have faced – Twins, Angels, Phillies – have played their best against the Yankees… (dismissively) Is it just that the Yankees are that good?’
(Again, discounting the value of the Yankees’ victories so far.)
Bobby Fucking Valentine: ‘Yes.’
Bobby Valentine… I have a man-crush on you. Baseball innovator and independent, master of disguise, inventor of the wrap-sandwich, and voice of reason amidst the collection of mouth-breathers on ESPN. You are the man.
I wish Bobby V were my father-in-law.
Not father?
BOBBY VALENTINE: “I DONT believe in coincidences. YES.”
My hero.
The whole fucking thing just floor me I just don’t have the words.
ESPN suits will probably fire him for complimenting the Yankees now. Stay tuned for the reinstatement of Steve “Sea Donkey Slayer” Phillips.
Quite descriptive. Haha.
ietc
Mitch Williams: Lidge had 48 saves last year, you take away Carlos Ruiz from behind the plate, he might not have had 25 saves…
now you know why Molina is catching tomorrow. this is how ballplayers think.
Goddamn, Bobby V is hurling motherfucking TRUTH BOMBS.
<3 that man.
He’s calling it like it is. And he’s right.
is mo sick?
It appears that he is. Coughing…heat pad. I think he doesn’t care, though.
Nah, he’s doing his best Michael Jordan impersonation.
I think part of it with the media is that they have to tout the losing team’s chances in order to ensure continued interest in what’s going on.
+1 for succinct explanation of perceived slights towards the Yankees in the media
ESPN has hit ROCK BOTTOM.
It’s not that Yankees are good it’s that everyone else is playing so bad.
FUCKING UNBELIEVABLE.
It tells you something when Bobby V is the only voice of reason
I NEVER watch them.
It tells you that Bobby V. won’t last on ESPN. I hope he lands a MLB managerial job in the offseason before the suck of BBTN infects him too.
And that Bobby V is only there because Steve Phillips is a poor man’s Roger Sterling.
Burnett becomes a yankee legend if he closes it out tonight!
Check out this AP report: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/.....id=4615163
In what universe is the crowd’s A-Rod-steroids chant relevant in a short article about the Yanks and Phils getting warned about pitching inside after the Phils plunked A-Rod for the 2nd time in 2 games? Embarrassing (for the AP).
Phillies fans are obviously Rhode Scholars.
It’s “Rhodes Scholars.”
I’m obviously a Rhodes Scholar. (fail)
Haha, way to roll with the punches. Well-played.
Anyone hear if they’re opening the Stadium tomorrow night for Game 5? Would love to be there for a clincher.
I think they are. I’m gonna see what I can do about going. It sucks living so far though.
AJ wants his WS MVP. This ends tomorrow.
It’s Arod’s to lose.
Not after the no-hitter.
well played.
actually, if Mo gets a save tomorrow, he’ll win.
no doubt in my mind.
I was thinking damon actually
lmao whos talking??? arod
I know everyone is discussing the analytical ineptitude of ESPN’s baseball talking heads (though not Bobby V), but you guys are masochists. Why do you willingly subject yourselves to obvious stupidity?
Watch MLB Network. They’re not amazing, but they’re a heck of a lot better than ESPN.
I agree. I think ESPN is unwatchable. I’m not a huge fan of MLB either but at least I can watch it.
Thats what Im watching now. Granted guys like Harold Reynolds and Joe Magrane arent exactly geniuses but they do seem to be more neutral with their analysis.
Unfortunately for them they have all ex-players and sometimes their lack of any knowledge and usage of sabermetrics really does make some of their analysis laughable.
I don’t get MLB network, but I get ESPN.
That’s too bad. However, I should stress that you do have the internet and there are a ton of great sites that offer solid analysis. You already know of one.
After a big playoff win, if you’re watching the game on TV, you don’t cruise around to all the channels and check out the post-game shows to bask in the victory a bit? I rarely watch ESPN or any of the sports shows (other than games), but I definitely like checking out the post-game shows after the Yankees win in the playoffs.
I check out YES and every blue moon, MLB. Never ESPN, though. I definitely see the appeal to checking all of them out, but meh, I just can’t see anything of value in ESPN. I’ve completely boycotted them.
Also, by the time these games are over, I’m usually in bed. Can only bask for so long until I realize that I have work early in the morning.
I never watch ESPN, but after everyone freaked out about Kruk last night I figured I’d check it out to see what’s going on over there.
But dude… Look, I’m glad we have the MLB Network. It’s a cool thing to have, no doubt. But let’s not act like the guys on MLB Network are so much better. They’re all morons, too. They’re just not as offensively idiotic as Kruk, Gammons and the ESPN peanut gallery (excluding the great Bobby V. – Fairfield County represent – of course).
Agreed. MLB isn’t great by any stretch, but there are more analysts (with what seems to be a lesser degree of bias) and I think they have more of a stomach for advanced metrics. Ultimately, they’re still only the lesser of two evils. I generally prefer to just check out sites (and this one is great, for sure) for analysis. ESPN is solely for entertainment value.
Just as I type this they all lobby for Chad Gaudin to pitch the next game.
Hmm…I don’t feel as confident in my previous post anymore.
Yeah… Obviously this is a matter of taste, so there’s no right or wrong answer… But I think you’re overestimating the MLBN crew a bit. Their whole panel are members of the baseball flat-earth society.
I might be overestimating them. There’s a very good chance of that. I think they just put a bit more thought into their analysis than ESPN. They discussed the weird strike zone tonight, the HBP on A-Rod, the individual match-ups and look beyond the pale of basic numbers far more often than ESPN. Again, they’re not very good, and I don’t want to make it sound like I’m putting forth that assertion.
I’d bet the RAB crew along with you, TSJC, Moshe, Artist, Rebecca, Andy in Sunny, whozat, some of the Steves and Mikes and others I’ve forgotten, could put together a MUCH, MUCH better TV analysis. Unfortunately, my childish, feeble brain is attracted to all the bright colors on television and you guys (and gal) aren’t there.
ESPN back to the NFL and Brett Favre.
It’s funny as shit.
yeah what world series? Favre got booed in Green Bay!
Well they do have some coverage on espn news like a fucking step child.
That was a great moment in the press conference, everyone laughing.
what was?
It really is some bullshit when basically everyone but Bobby V on ESPN talk about everything the Phillies did wrong and how they are still in the series.
When the Yankees won 4 out of 5 from 1996-2000 all everybody talked about was how good the Yankees were and how easy it was to root for this group of players etc. Now it seems everyone is so obsessed with the payroll and have embraced this Yankees as the Evil Empire bullshit it is really making the national media coverage of them a joke.
Only the “stats” guys on ESPN like Neyer and Keith Law flat out just say they are the best team in baseball period and have predicted them to win every series this postseason (even though they do constantly rip Girardi as a manager).
Honestly its the natural progression of things. The yankees back then were what the red sox were the past few years. They were a team that hadn’t won in a while, and they came together and started dominating baseball. No one cared about payroll (or steroids for that matter) and now after having been on “top” for a long time the media is trying to downplay the yankees as much as possible.
The yankees as all of us know on RAB are great for baseball because even if theyre talking crap about the yankees, theyre still talking about the yankees.
I am a college student living in Boston. I am a DIEHARD yankees fan, have been my entire life. I know more than most everyone what its like to have to “defend” the yankees and their “spending habits”. Ive accepted that people just hate the yankees because they are the best. They have a great organization capable of spending the millions they do. The fan base is loyal which again contributes to them being able to spend like they do. You just gotta roll with the punches…people will eventually always hate the top dogs, and the yankees simply are the top dogs.
I empathize. I’ved lived in Boston for 19 years as a Yankee fan. It’s actually a LOT of fun if you have a thick skin. Granted . . . it was much more fun before 2004, but I’m a fan and defend my team to the MAX.
Hang in there.
You’ve got the right attitude, I wish more people were able to put things into perspective like that. It’s especially cool coming from someone who’s relatively young. All the commenters around here who use arguments like ‘well you’re young so you’re part of a different generation and you’ve never seen the Yankees lose and I’m smarter than you because I’m older’ should take note, this kid just shamed you.
(I did college up in Boston, it’s definitely an annoying experience as a Yankees fan. Getting out of NY gives you some good perspective on all the Yankees issues and hatred out there, though.)
The whole thing is a joke. I’m not one of these guys who is into the homer thing like on YES or 880.
but if your the world leader of sports you have to do better then Brett Favre and the world is playing bad vs. the Yankees.
Was that ninth inning hit the biggest of A-Rod’s career?
yes.
Jeter would be my MVP no?
Damon if he has another big game tomorrow?
If AJ wins tomorrow it will be him. If not yeah offensively right now it is Jeter or Damon. If Mo though saves the 4th win could be him since it would give him 3 saves in the series.
For me right now its Mo, but AJ could snatch it tomorrow.
Its gotta go to Mo
Your right guys. Dunno how I forgot about MO!
I have been a Yankee fan all my life. Win or lose, I’m a Yankee fan. If they want to spend $30 Million on payroll or $500 million on payroll, I don’t care. I’m still a fan.
But this is NYC. It’s the TOP market in the country and the media and fans here are BRUTAL. Not an easy place to play in. The Steinbrenners gave us all this year, players, a stadium etc. And I don’t care what anyone says about them. I love the Yankees and I thank the Steinbrenners.
And this is New York bitches. Get used to it.
Everyone forgets the fact that the Orioles had the highest payroll in baseball in 1994 and the Yanks were running away with the division until the friggin strike happened. Spending lots of money, in and of itself, does NOT make for a World Series Champion.
WE know that…but the world doesn’t want to know that. They just refuse to give Yankees their props.
Holy shit Harold Reynolds just made a great point. He says hold back AJ for Game 6 because in Game 5 they will have an offense with Molina, Gardner if Melky is injured and the P (Burnett).
Im more worried about whoever starts Game 6 for the Yankees if necessary but I forgot about how bad the bottom of the Yankees lineup will look tomorrow especially if Melky is out.
AJ + poor offense in bottom of the lineup >>>>>>>>>>> Gaudin + a little better offense.
Yeah but again you do have to think about the possibility of Game 6 if necessary and Pettitte on short rest is not too appealing.
Hopefully they win tomorrow, AJ wins and is the MVP and we say who gives a shit about Game 6.
Does Girardi really bench Posada for a potential clincher?
…don’t answer that.
Forget about the order of the games for a second… You have to win 1 of the next 3 games. Do you think your chances of doing that are better when you start (a) Gaudin, AJ and CC, or when you start (b) Pettitte, AJ and CC?
Give me (b), please. To me that’s a no-brainer.
Or, Girardi could just play Posada.
Problem solved.
Did someone here piss off TSJC? He’s been sending a few tweets but no rabbing? Who said what to him?
I dont even know his name on Twitter.
arod if he has a big game tomorrow
Those of you watching the MLB network or YES during the WS just missed live coverage of Brett Favre taking a shit on ESPN.
LOL
good night ALL.
PS The yankees will make it even hard for all the haters tomorrow.
Remember when we were 0-8 against Boston and everyone was jumping off the ledge?
Wait a sec, Yanks are still in it?
I thought they came in 3rd and missed the playoffs.
