Brazilian Yankee says:

Now do your thing Mo.

The offense really saved Joba and Girardi tonight.

Girardi? What did he do wrong?

Rob H. says:

He made CC Sabathia hang an 0-2 slider after getting Utley to swing and miss at the first two. He also made Joba Chamberlain throw that fastball not far enough inside.

Esteban says:

SI.com says that was A-Rod’s biggest hit of his career. Thoughts?

Esteban says:

WTF, WHY DOES THIS HAPPEN?

gxpanos says:

As soon as I saw Johnny battling, I knew it wasnt over.

This team doesnt die. 3 more.

Reggie C. says:

Salty Buggah says:

Damon with a single and 2 SBs, Teixeira gets on with HBP, and ARod singled in the go-ahead run. (h/t Murti)

Hilarious!

Seriously, no matter what, A-Rod is a “True Yankee” now and no one can EVER deny that

Salty Buggah says:

Whoops forgot to add thats Scott Boras’ lead come true!

He’s been a true Yankee ever since he was traded for Alfonso Soriano.

ansky says:

HIP HIP!!!! someone on here posted earlier that the Yanks would win 7-4….that dude is the maaaaaan!!!

Joe D. says:

We shall see.

Right now, I’m liking our chances.

/Understate’d

claybeez says:

Nice job Po, another bonehead running mistake!
/syke’d

Ghost of Scott Brosius says:

Give this man a plaque in Monument Park.

Justin says:

Did ARod just earn his stripes?

Mike Pop says:

He earned them with that hr off Nathan.

HolyGhostClaw says:

I think he just just earned a few extra ones.

Chris says:

He’s a fucking zebra now.

Ghost of Scott Brosius says:

And if not that, fuentes. and if not that, the huge homer yesterday. he’s beyond earned it.

AdamParker says:

No! Until he wins other 3 World Series for NY, he will not be a “true” Yankee.

/Dumbass’d

Sam P. says:

/Brazilian Yankee’d

(based on reading the comments this postseason)

Mike Pop says:

Why are the Yankees going to win the World Series?

Cause we are the balls.

Esteban says:

The Centaur strikes again

alittleblackegg says:

Riddering says:

This team is all that and a bag of chips.

It’s not a homer but maybe he’s Mr. November.

baka nakamura says:

unreal. my wife broke out the defibulator and i live!

larryf says:

fibula is a bone in your shin-did she brake it? If so, then you needed a defibrillator :-)

DontChaKnow says:

Kate Hudson owes ARod her back door for that one.

Riddering says:

Yankee wives = open season after this.

His teammates love winning.

Dave G says:

Joe D. says:

From thread number zero:

Prediction Time:

Sabathia 6-2/3 IP, 2 ER, 4 H, 3 BB, 8 K. 108 Pitches. Win.

Blanton 5-1/3 IP, 6 R (5 ER), 9 H, 2 BB, 3 K. 85 Pitches. Loss.

Final Score: 7-4, Yanks.

Mo knows. Oh yes, Mo knows.

Doug says:

Listen to Brother Joe D.

Evil Empire says:

crapula says:
Joe D. says:

Yah, I figured I’d call it Thread #0 to differentiate it from the first spillover thread (”Thread #1″?)

Sorry, I majored in Computer Science back in the day. Force of habit.

Riddering says:

JOLTIN’ JOE, I love it!

JMK aka The Overshare says:

Pretty damn close, man.

AndrewYF says:

There have been so many awesome moments in this postseason.

DreDog says:

This team is too good. They are invincible.

Doug says:

Foolish Phillies, you can’t ice Mo by making home come out to U2.

Accent Shallow says:

Joba is in line for the most undeserved win ever.

Pasqua says:

He prefers that we just call it “the vulture.”

slappy white says:

I really think Jorge let them throw him out so we could get this over with and I could get some sleep….THANKS JORGE

PsiFighter37 says:

We got this baby. Tomorrow, time to tee off on Cliff Lee.

Pasqua says:

Pasqua says:

That inning was either going to be remembered as the re-birth of Lidge (and the “choke” of A-Rod) or the arrival of A-Rod (and the death of Lidge).

It was sooooo the arrival.

JGS says:

Joba will get the win

that’s just wrong

Yanks 4 Life says:

Yankees will get the win, that is right :)

JGS says:

HolyGhostClaw says:

Very Very Wrong!!

But he did get 2 K’s before giving up that homer…

Maybe they can give him 2 Holds instead of a Win?

rbizzler says:

Hooooooooo!

That was a serious inning. I love how there were no shots of Manuel guffawing in the dugout. And Joe Buck sounded so sad…

Yanks 4 Life says:

I hope Leche is ok.
Any word?

crapula says:

Arod puts the “no to you phillies” in november.

JoeFromBayRidge says:

Whoever predicted this game 2 or 3 threads ago was ridiculously close thus far….

We shouldn’t have gotten so worked up about Manuel’s comments about Rivera. He’s just so used to watching Lidge that he thinks all closers are garbage. Poor Uncle Charlie.

But…but…but… based on 3 saves in “TEH POSTSEASON” he’s back!

Bob Stone says:

It just doesn’t get any more exciting than this. The only thing better than this fantastic level of competition is to see the Yanks win #27.

You just can’t ask for better baseball than this.

mike c says:
HolyGhostClaw says:

E-ROC says:

Looks like the Phillies will test Charlie Manuel’s theory.

Evil Empire says:

THAT’S HOW WE ALWAYS FUCKING DO IT. Who’s surprised? Who doubted that shit was going to happen? I didn’t.

Mike Pop says:

Everyone was saying the L.

So pathetic that they always have more confidence in our opponent than us.

claybeez says:

Mike Pop says:

Klemy says:

Jimmy Rollins: “I meant Yankees in 5.”

mustang says:

Anyone who jumped off the bandwagon after game 1…. PLEASE STAY OFF.

NEVER DIE

Jake H says:

Lidge’s confidence must be shot now too.

Klemy says:

Not to mention his manager’s in him.

IowaYank says:

“Not to mention his manager’s in him.” … is that why they call him Uncle Charlie?
/disturbing’d?

seriously, why would some of you ever give up on this team?

Joe D. says:

Exit light. Enter night. Take my hand, Jimmy Rollins. You’re off to Never-Never land.

Doug says:

Is it not the height of irony that a fat guy’s last name is “Stairs”

mike c says:

i wonder how the greatest hitter in the world, matt stairs, would do against joe saunders’ unhittable demeanor?

ansky says:

Once again Joe Buck sounds like his dog just died. One more out.

PsiFighter37 says:

J-Roll sure has Mo figured out, doesn’t he.

cjc says:

1 more for 3-1 come on Mo

Esteban says:

Rollins has figured out how to pop-up against Mo

Riddering says:

One of these days he’s going to hit a flyball to the outfield.

Yanks 4 Life says:

Is that the best you got Jimmy?

Jay says:

Boy Rollins hit the shit out of that one!

JMK aka The Overshare says:

Alright. Hawaii 5-No is the last batter. RIP Phillies.

paulc says:

girardi has done fine tonight. joba just left a pitch down the middle. offense came thru…

Ghost of Scott Brosius says:

Disagree. But thank Mo these are the Yankees, and they don’t need competent managing to win.

Keanu Reeves says:

What are you claiming Girardi did wrong?

Ghost of Scott Brosius says:

Only one thing. Mariano should be in for 6 outs there. I did not see that home run coming, and I was hoping Joba would get it done. But he should not have been in, with a one run lead, for any of those hitters. Mariano Rivera is possibly the greatest pitcher ever, and he should be in. The only reason not to use him for more than 3 outs is that you’re leaving some in the tank for tomorrow. This is wrong. This was the pivotal game, the game we needed to win, to win this series. Managing this game with even the slightest consideration for tomorrow’s game, based on the circumstances in this series in terms of the games and the pitching matchups (adv. yanks today, adv. phils tomorrow), was completely wrong.

Ghost of Scott Brosius says:

Rollins really smacking the ball

JGS says:

now it’s official

of the 8 playoff teams, 7 closers now have blown saves

Mo = deity

Alex S says:

not sure that was a save oppurtunity……was it?

JGS says:

yes–he pitched a full inning

Alan says:

1 out away. Praise be to Mo.

The Only Yankee Fan in Nebraska says:

Joe Buck sounded like his favorite dog died when he said “take a commanding 3-1 lead”

yankees=warriors says:

Watch and learn, Lidge, watch and learn.

Yanks 4 Life says:

Pedro Feliz just saw his statue next to Rocky disappear before his eyes.

Reggie C. says:

SUCK IT PHILLIES FANS !!

Your win over my G-Men has not gone unpunished!

cjc says:

well we know headcase Lidge is shot for the rest of the series

AdamParker says:

lmao… ESPN headline:

A-Rod again…

Mike Pop says:

boo-ya baby!

A.J. v Lee tomorrow? Could be a L but I am so confident.

Evil Empire says:

COULD BE A MOTHERFUCKIN W, BUDDY!!!!!!!

#27 is happening.

Opus says:

“By the way, Brad Lidge told me Tuesday at Media Day that the Phils believed they could pitch effectively to Alex. So far he’s been right. Of course, we haven’t seen Lidge in a game yet.” – Kim Jones in the chat from the other day

JMK aka The Overshare says:

AdamParker says:

Ball game over! Yankees win!! THHHHHEEEEE Yankees Win!!!

mustang says:

Thus ended the lesson.

Bushido216 says:

I can’t wait to see the Philly papers tomorrow… screenshots please!

MikeD says:

So many sad faces with their ugly red hats. Makes me feel good.

Doug says:

So many ugly faces with their sad red hats. Makes me feel good.

(fixed that for you~)

SS says:

Evil Empire says:

You can’t fuck with us. Mo is the best ever.

Alan says:

WOO! One win away, boys. Don’t bother letting it come back to the stadium, we can wait to see you until the parade.

NYFan50 says:

Well that was a great game.

Riddering says:

We have deities on the Yankees.

The Phillies try their best but they just can’t steal our fire.

Salty Buggah says:

Whoops! I guess he (and the rest of the Phasn’t figured out Mo yet…

WIN! Hell YEA!!!!!!

Accent Shallow says:

Wow. Infuckingcredible. I love this team.

And that was the moment Phillies fans have been dreading since June, right?

Also, I almost hope Lee does his job tomorrow, because I fear for their safety if they win the Series here.

cjc says:

ah the look of defeat on thier faces sooooooooooooo worth it

Bob Stone says:

Abso-F&**kin-lutely great. This team is awesome.

E-ROC says:

8 pitch save. Uh, Charlie Manuel, I don’t think your Phillies can hit Mariano Rivera.

Holy shit what a fucking game! Joe Buck sounds heartbroken. Poor wittle guy. Artie Lange must be loving it.

yankees=warriors says:

Yup, and speaking of A-Rod drilling pitches, he should drill one into the booth to get him.

yankees=warriors says:

I even believe they’ll get to Lee tomorrow.
Go AJ~

Joe D. says:

WE.

WILL.

NOT.

BE.

STOPPED.

He’s not here, so had to help out.

Souter Fell says:

I can almost smell it

charlespoet says:

Start spreadin’ the news and chillin’ the champagne… 27 is now my favorite number.

AdamParker says:

I’ve had “27″ in my work password for 2 years now… very soon I’m gonna have to change it to “28″.

ansky says:

Fuck yeah!!!!

Charlie Manuel: “we can hit Mariano Rivera”

immediately after that statement locuts devoured his crops and his liquour turned to blood.

Moral of the story?…NEVER insult God.

DontChaKnow says:

claybeez says:

Hell, f’ing yeah! Man, that was some game. Some rollercoaster. Some, Never Say Die!

baka nakamura says:

hope those philly fans go back and read rollins’ remarks about how they got rivera figured out. fuck off punk!

The Only Yankee Fan in Nebraska says:

LET’S FINISH THIS TOMORROW!!

I’ve got a good feeling.

BigBlueAL says:

Lets see what bullshit ass excuses Manuel and the rest of the Phillies will have now!!

Doug says:

Maybe they’ll throw Lidge under the bus. It is the possible the herd, with backs against the wall, will turn one of their own.

Alex S says:

if they win the WS tomo when is the victory parade? Wednesday?

Jersey says:

That’s what, 13 pitches for six outs in the last 24 hours? This Mo guy is gonna have a bright future in baseball.

Marcus says:

Jimmy Rollins, any comments on your prediction for the Series?

mike c says:

trueblue says:

I’m glad Mo was able to over come the Phil’s figuring him out. Whewwwwww…

Souter Fell says:

can joe sound more depressed

Jimmy Rollins you do mean the Yanks will close it out on your home?

Mike Pop says:

a-rod was pissed they hit him so many times.

made them pay.

Klemy says:

That had to feel great for him.

Yankeefan91 Arod fan says:

Evil Empire says:

“The tenacious at bat of Johnny Damon” … well put, Alex.

pete says:

i LOVE listening to a-rod talk. you can tell he learns new words every couple weeks and tries to drop them into conversation as much as possible

Klemy says:

“You’re one win away from stop getting drilled.”
“I hope so.”

Hova says:

Can we give the MVP award to Brad Lidge? Its so much fun seeing him fail. Love it.

Will says:

Is Fox finally gonna give Johnny some love?

TLVP says:

mvp so far?

Burnett? Mo?

Klemy says:

I think it has to be Mo.

Evil Empire says:
Evil Empire says:

but…an outstanding, world series clinching performance by AJ – even if Mo saved it – I feel would merit AJ the MVP award.

Jersey says:

Absolutely. If AJ goes, let’s say, 7 IP 2ER tomorrow, and they win, I think he should get it.

Mike Pop says:

None right now in my opinion.

ClayBuchholzLovesLaptops says:

If Burnett dominates tomorrow, I’d give it to him. Otherwise, Mo.

ansky says:
ClayBuchholzLovesLaptops says:

TJ says:

I hope A-Rod dominates tomorrow so he can get it.

Will says:

Rosenthal: You’re one win away from not being drilled anymore.
Confused A-Rod: …Let’s hope so.

Yanks21 says:

Yea..thought AROD answer that perfect..

The team needs to get his back and hit the ball…only way they are going to get back at the phillies (like they did in the 9th :) )

Dela G says:

Yanks21 says:

Johnny… thanks for everything tonight!

You really kept your head up after that tough first serious..and you carried us this game!

Count Crapulent says boo to you sir says:

Phillies in 5? Not so much.
Phillies in 6? Not so much.

Evil Empire says:

Phillies in ain’t gonna happen.

vin says:

FUCK YEAH!

This team is like a Boa Constrictor. Relentless.

Hugh Jassman says:

Jimmy sure handled Mariano.

Fucking jackass.

Count Crapulent says boo to you sir says:

Brad Lidge = true Yankee

mike c says:

yanks in 5, lidge will be awarded WS MVP

Hall and Nokes says:

Should the Yanks be nice and let this go to six?

Souter Fell says:

Will Philly set itself on fire if the yanks beat them on their turf?

JMK aka The Overshare says:

I love gentrification!

Yanks 4 Life says:

Stay classy RAB.
Being here pitch by pitch with you guys makes the WS that much better.
See you guys tomorrow night !

Yanks21 says:

MikeD says:

It was worth the Joba HR because it makes the victory all the much sweeter for the Yankees, and bitter for the Phillies and their fans.

vin says:

And hopefully it’ll teach Joba to stick with the fastball if its been utterly overpowering.

Will says:

The homer was on a fastball.

vin says:

Yeah, but after getting ahead 1-2, he threw two poor sliders. Then at 3-2, everyone knew the fastball was coming. He took a little off it, and didn’t locate it well.

Ghost of Scott Brosius says:

Agreed, that was the key to the at bat, he needed to go with the fastball on 1-2 and 2-2. it worked against werth and ibanez.

AdamParker says:

Doug says:

Steaks and blowjobs for everyone, Joba’s paying!

Joker, The says:

LET’S HEAR IT FOR NEW YORK, NEW YORK, NEW YORK.

Salty Buggah says:

Haha, A-Rod the hottest topic on Twitter right now.

Tom Zig says:

remember when the Phillies figured out Mariano Rivera?

5 outs over 2 days and only 13 pitches thrown

Mike Pop says:

Esteban says:

he was misquoted, the quote left out they they had figured out how to hit popups

mustang says:

Can you believe that ESPN is still showing coverage of the NFL?

I mean come on !!!

mustang says:

finally !!

Its only the fucking world series

Mike Pop says:

Annoying, yes. But don’t even let it get to you.

Our time will be here tomorrow night.

mustang says:

I’m not, but damn how many times are they going to talk about Brett Favre.

They totally suck I can’t believe they call themselves the world leader in sports what a joke.

Bob Stone says:

ESPN is making themselves friggin’ irrelevant in baseball!!

JMK aka The Overshare says:

That asian girl on Fox 5 news has a nice rack.

Yanks21 says:

My wife knows i have a thing for her…

She is very skinny too.. wonder if they are real:)

Ok focus on the post game

Count Crapulent says boo to you sir says:

I officially have a case of the vapors.

JFH says:

clearly a victory for the phillies because mo had to come out and throw 8 pitches.

bonestock94 says:

Such fucking brilliance, I’m basically speechless.

JMK aka The Overshare says:

Damon was so fucking clutch today.

scooter says:

Just back from my cousin’s – watched the Giants lay a Giant egg… then this. Mo, I love this team.

Damon unhinged Lidge… then Alex and Jorge come through in the biggest way. No way not to love this – but to quote Howie Rose from 1994, there’s one more hill to climb

PaulF says:

Joba gets the win. He didn’t deserve it but was anyone else actually really encouraged be what we saw from him? He was throwing gas and looked dominant except for that one pitch.

JFH says:

yes. location on that pitch killed him. but we saw some of the old joba there.

MikeD says:

Hid attitude is totally Joba, but he’s still missing three mph on his fastball. He used to be 98-100 out of the pen.

PaulF says:

Since thats probably his last outing this year( only AJ and Mo will pitch tomorrow) It will be interesting to see what Joba’s velocity is next season.

Count Crapulent says boo to you sir says:

go to YES for the postgame. Charlie Manuel up at the mike. Cranky bastard.

JMK aka The Overshare says:

Ozzie Guillen: Phillies in ten!

Pasqua says:

A moment of silence for Brad Lidge’s career. Again.

Evil Empire says:

I’m so glad Lidge was put in there … I knew he couldn’t contain the Yankees.

The Only Yankee Fan in Nebraska says:

Ozzie Guillen called it: Phillies in 10

DFD says:

it’s a fricken even number, of all the numbers he could have picked

MikeD says:

The angry, cranky manager of the Phillies now speaking.

ansky says:

Pedro is not so Feliz anymore.

Pasqua says:

Souter Fell says:

I got tuesday off (gotta love teacher’s schedule), if they win tomorrow night i am getting hammered!

cjc says:

wow Charlie Manuel is pissed

Count Crapulent says boo to you sir says:

Does Charlie Manuel have a cohesive thought or a cohesive sentence? He belongs in a home.

ansky says:

You mean that’s not Roscoe P. Coltrain?

Souter Fell says:

He sounds like a vet describing how he watched his platoon die

Reggie C. says:

I love Bobby V. He makes sportscenter watchable.

BigBlueAL says:

I know its already a done deal but would you guys feel better with Gaudin in Game 5 and a rested AJ in Game 6?? Im still a bit worried if Yankees lose Game 5 about Pettitte on short rest in Game 6.

Mike Pop says:

No thanks. Let’s stomp on them.

Gaudin v Lee is a joke.

Mike Pop says:

Kay trying to bait A-Rod into saying something bad.

Will says:

On ESPN, Bobby V. really upset that the Phils blew it, and then Ravech complains about how many “time outs” they took, regarding the mound trips. Nice, guys. Nice.

I’ve never found Bobby V. to be a Yankees-hater, I think you have to give him a little more leeway. Do you guys disagree? I’ve always, post-Mets of course, thought Bobby V. was fine towards the Yankees.

MikeD says:

I agree. If anything, he’s been generally positive toward the Yankees and he’s sent a few messages over the years that he’d love to manage them.

Mike Pop says:

Did Ravech really?

Jeebuz

gxpanos says:

Nah, Bobby V just said, “I’m sorry, but it looked like the Phillies let it get out of control, they needed a mound visit to get everything under control before the A-Rod AB.” And the “I’m sorry” seemed to be an apology for criticizing the Phillies, if that makes sense. Bobby’s rough around the edges, but he’s actually been pretty unbiased by ESPN standards.

gxpanos says:

Rough around the edges in the sense that he’s not that good on TV yet. He’s still a little uncomfortable. But youre right about Ravech, screw him.

You think? I think he’s pretty good on TV. He’s done it before, and he’s certainly not lacking for insight, confidence or personality.

gxpanos says:

No way, he certainly has insight, and he’s the smartest guy on there. I just think he’s too…smiley? And he talks for longer than he needs, and the transition away from him is always weird as a result.

Has he done TV before? Or do you mean as a manager? Because I think those are two very different beasts, press conferences as a manager and studio work.

I mean he’s done TV before, as a professional, not as a manger. He was definitely on ESPN at some point before this year, after his stint with the Mets. I think he was a Baseball Tonight guy at some point.

He’s just smarter and more witty than everyone else on ESPN so he stands out and looks weird to you. It’s just that he’s actually good, and is surrounded by horrendous idiocy.

Jamie says:

I would really like someone with a BRAIN to realize that they were doing that because they thought the Phillies were stealing pitches. Like its not that fucking hard to figure it out. . .

Shit like that drives me nuts. Ravech is by far the biggest fucking red sox homer on that stupid station.

larryf says:

Let’s see. We play 7 months to get here, they may be stealing signs and the announcers are upset about conferences on the mound? Idiots. I hope it upsets whoever is batting as well. When Eiland comes out to the mound-you can read his lips-need to cover up better. I read his lips and he said-hurry up I wanna Hoagie….

Riddering says:

Maybe Lidge should have gotten a trip or five.

ShuutoHeat says:

So think the stadium is going to be open tomorrow?

Henry Triana says:

Jeeezzzzz…Charlie Manuel is red as hell.

Z says:

I have never seen Mo that fired up, EVER!

Jay says:

Manual is a sour-puss dickwad.

“I’ve answered that like 10 times in the past two days. Maybe 25 times.” (Talking about Cliff Lee pitching on 3 days rest)

steve (different one) says:

hey, the yankees had a 3 run lead in the 9th, should Girardi have brought in Hughes?

no?

crickets….

Mike Pop says:

+1

People complaining about going to Mo… sigh.

Tony says:
Randy A. says:

Ghost of Scott Brosius says:

Doug says:

Wow. John Kruk basically saying the Yankees out-teamworked the Phils.

Esteban says:

Sick Sleeveless shirt Johnny

MattG says:

That was 7 1/2 innings of boring baseball, followed by 1 1/2 innings of thrillation!

I don’t think it’s all such a big deal, but with the Yankees now needing just one win, I wish they would give the ball to Gaudin tomorrow. Burnett on short rest is just not a good matchup vs Cliff Lee, but Burnett on an extra day’s rest, with Pettitte on regular rest available for setup work, vs Pedro, is very favorable.

There is really only one way the Yankees don’t win this World Series: they have three bad starts in a row. Throwing the next 3 guys on 3 days rest is one way to court just such a disaster.

the 2004 Yankees says:

hey dude, what’s up?

Evil Empire says:

The 2009 Yankees are not the 2004 Yankees. The 2009 Yankees are going to win a 27th World Series.

steve (different one) says:

that doesn’t mean you willingly concede a game.

Evil Empire says:

Who’s talking about willingly conceding a game? I’m not. I go with the top 3 all on short rest, we’ll win one of those games.

MattG says:

That’s not true. If you’re trailing by 2 in the 6th, do you bring in Mo to close the game? Of course not. At some point, you do concede, because you need to value the next game more than the current game. The question is when do you concede?

The critical time is now, because, as unlikely as it is (and I started this by saying I don’t think it matters a whole lot), once Burnett takes the mound you run the risk of all 3 of those guys pitching sub-standard baseball. And that’s the only way the Yankees lose this series.

MattG says:

They are…but admit it now–there is some small chance that Burnett, Pettitte and CC all toss up stinkers against a really good hitting team. Now think, if Burnett pitches on 5 days rest instead of 3, with Pettitte behind him on 4 days if needed, against Pedro, in Yankee Stadium–how do they lose that game?

Tony says:

Yeah, and there’s a small chance Rivera bl… hahahaha, I can’t even type that.

Mike Pop says:

Damon is jacked. Damn.

gxpanos says:

Ha, on ESPN Johnny just gave a pseudo shout-out to JoePos.

Doug says:

Yeah, that was a nice little gesture.

Doug says:

Johnny Damon has Rosenthal-itis; what an awkward interview he is.

gxpanos says:

Sounds like a former stutterer, which Im pretty sure he was. He’s learned not to speak until feels he can get it out.

Rosenthal just has no sense of rhythm.

DreDog says:

Yeah, he was a former stutterer. I am too.

Doug says:

I didn’t know that.

I am an ass.

Bob Stone says:

I am surprised you didn’t know. It’s come up here on RAB many times before and I know you are a RAB regualr. I give Johnny a LOT of credit for overcoming his difficulty.

Sam P. says:

Holy cow Gammons looks like he’s a skeleton. His nose is purple. Get him some hot tea, stat!

Yanks21 says:

If we are winning tomorrow.. Mo pitches 2 innings..

Ghost of Scott Brosius says:

AGREED. We play today, we win today. Mariano gives us the best chance to do that.

Chili Davis says:

Kruk and Gammons are pathetic in their refusal to give the Yankees credit. Bobby V. says the Phillies’ poor performance isn’t a coincidence, that the Yanks are making them play that way. Fuckin’ right, Bobby.

Sam P. says:

Definitely agree with you. But hey, it’s all good if the Yanks close it out. Kruk’s a colossal waste of space.

mantlearod11 says:

the twins didnt play their game the angels didnt paly their game now the phillies arent playing their game give some credit tho the yanks

mustang says:

Right on can you believe that spin.

Tony says:

Kruk’s tantrums please me.

WAHHHHH!!! TEAMS KEEP MAKING MISTAKE AGAINST THE YANKEES!!! WAHHHHHH!!!

Mystique and Aura, bitches.

DreDog says:

I can hear Kruk tomorrow:
“The 2008 Phillies would beat the 2009 Yankees.”

DreDog says:

Damn, he didn’t even wait till tomorrow. He just said 2008 Lidge would strike out Damon in the 9th.

I can just picture trying to invent a time machine in his garage just for these situations.

Mystique and aura have nothing to do with it. The Yankees are just awesome.

Ghost of Scott Brosius says:

Exactly. Mariano Rivera, Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez, Johnny Damon-these are Hall of Fame caliber players, playing their best. And everyone else follows their lead. That’s why we win.

JMK aka The Overshare says:

Damon is borderline. Don’t get me wrong—I like JD, but if given a vote, I wouldn’t put him in The Hall.

Riddering says:

Damon’s DNA strands should be a shoo-in to the HOF.

/Boras’d

DreDog says:

If he gets to 3000 hits he is a shoe in. The hits, runs, and SB’s are sick.

DreDog says:

And I forgot HR’s.

steve (different one) says:

aj says:

Is Melky OK? Did anyone hear what happened?

Mike Pop says:

We. Got. This.

Good night.

Ghost of Scott Brosius says:

Ravech: Lee’s going tomorrow, so there’s certainly enough to hang your hat on if you’re a phillies guy.

What a joke.

Reggie C. says:

Christina. Park.

Nice.

JMK aka The Overshare says:

Esteban says:

Ravech and Kruk are painfully trying to make a case for the Phillies.

Sam P. says:

Bobby V. harping on Lidge for not throwing sliders to A-Rod. Love it. Kruk / Ravech making excuses for Lidge.

Gammons: ‘The Phillies aren’t playing, in this series, the way they played all year.’

(Implying that the Phillies are shitting the bed, discounting the value of the Yankees’ victories so far.)

Kruk: ‘I agree. None of the teams the Yanks have faced – Twins, Angels, Phillies – have played their best against the Yankees… (dismissively) Is it just that the Yankees are that good?’

(Again, discounting the value of the Yankees’ victories so far.)

Bobby Fucking Valentine: ‘Yes.’

Bobby Valentine… I have a man-crush on you. Baseball innovator and independent, master of disguise, inventor of the wrap-sandwich, and voice of reason amidst the collection of mouth-breathers on ESPN. You are the man.

Doug says:

I wish Bobby V were my father-in-law.

JMK aka The Overshare says:

Reggie C. says:

BOBBY VALENTINE: “I DONT believe in coincidences. YES.”

My hero.

mustang says:

The whole fucking thing just floor me I just don’t have the words.

ansky says:

ESPN suits will probably fire him for complimenting the Yankees now. Stay tuned for the reinstatement of Steve “Sea Donkey Slayer” Phillips.

JMK aka The Overshare says:

Quite descriptive. Haha.

steve (different one) says:

Mitch Williams: Lidge had 48 saves last year, you take away Carlos Ruiz from behind the plate, he might not have had 25 saves…

now you know why Molina is catching tomorrow. this is how ballplayers think.

Doug says:

Goddamn, Bobby V is hurling motherfucking TRUTH BOMBS.

<3 that man.

Sam P. says:

He’s calling it like it is. And he’s right.

Souter Fell says:
crapula says:

It appears that he is. Coughing…heat pad. I think he doesn’t care, though.

ansky says:

Nah, he’s doing his best Michael Jordan impersonation.

Ghost of Scott Brosius says:

I think part of it with the media is that they have to tout the losing team’s chances in order to ensure continued interest in what’s going on.

Marcus says:

+1 for succinct explanation of perceived slights towards the Yankees in the media

mustang says:

ESPN has hit ROCK BOTTOM.

It’s not that Yankees are good it’s that everyone else is playing so bad.

FUCKING UNBELIEVABLE.

It tells you something when Bobby V is the only voice of reason

crapula says:

Reggie C. says:

It tells you that Bobby V. won’t last on ESPN. I hope he lands a MLB managerial job in the offseason before the suck of BBTN infects him too.

Doug says:

And that Bobby V is only there because Steve Phillips is a poor man’s Roger Sterling.

aj says:

Burnett becomes a yankee legend if he closes it out tonight!

Check out this AP report: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/.....id=4615163

In what universe is the crowd’s A-Rod-steroids chant relevant in a short article about the Yanks and Phils getting warned about pitching inside after the Phils plunked A-Rod for the 2nd time in 2 games? Embarrassing (for the AP).

Randy A. says:

Phillies fans are obviously Rhode Scholars.

JMK aka The Overshare says:

It’s “Rhodes Scholars.”
