2010 Draft: MLB Bonus Baby Mock Draft
ByI’m not sure if you’ve stumbled across it yet, but SBN Nation launched a new draft-centric site not too long ago called MLB Bonus Baby. They recently posted a first round mock draft (their fifth, actually), and have the Yankees taking Texas A&M righty Barret Loux, who I admittedly don’t know very much about. He’s a big boy at 6-foot-5, 220 lbs, and MLB.com’s draft report says he’s 91-94 with good command and a changeup that serves as his best pitch. As you can see from the video, that little hesitation gives his delivery hella deception (/Carig‘d). Not for nothing, Loux signs like the ideal Damon Oppenheimer pick; college pitcher with command, size, and stuff.
Anyway, don’t take the mock draft to heart, it’s far too early to know who’s going where. However, it does serve as a nice snapshot look at how players are being valued at the moment, and where their stock sits. Check it out.

I know D-Opp (works for A-Rod) likes college arms, but if Hughes is the protoype, why not another HS arm? Would’ve worked great with Gerritt Cole if we signed him. I’d rather have someone we can work with, rather than a Stoneburner/Warren type who is 22 before he hits high A. Those guys are Pirates trade bait, not Yankees front liners.
There’s only so many highschool players you can pick before you start to hurt their development by not giving them enough time with the coaches. Guys like Stoneburner (round 13) and Warren (round 3) still have upside and a much better chance of producing in the majors or being included in trades to teams like the Pirates.
It’s pretty tough to get that kind of pitcher in the draft for the Yanks. They always pick last. They lucked out with Hughes I believe which is explained here.
Joba was an injury risk which let him fall all the way to the Yankees in their compensatory pick.
Brackman too was a huge risk when the Yanks got him. The Yanks could always go IFA for these top pitching prospects too. There’s Arodys before he got traded, JoRam, and ManBan.
Just get us someone that can throw 100, fart & grunt.
Even better get pitcher who always lets out a huge guttural grunt before he farts the ball out at 100+ mph.
He’s gotta have an awesomely uncommon name, too. Like “Rollo Worthington” or something.
TriK Killingsox???
Omar, thanks for giving the Sox the 20th overall pick, you jerk.
Seriously. It wouldn’t kill your team to hold him, offer him arb and net the draft picks which would be better than the bag of balls you received for him.
Omar FAIL.
The whole trade was just idiotic. They were way out of playoff contention, had Ike Davis in the minors and still gave away Wagner for Chris effing Carter.
Omar FAIL
this is his middle name
I’ve been going to that site for awhile before it was on SBN. Andy is really really informed.
Yep,they just switched over to SBN (which is too bad, really) a few weeks ago. Good stuff there.
