Game 45: No More Dome
Yanks & Twins suspended due to rain

In what could easily be the final minor league start of his career, Stephen Strasburg will face the SWB Yanks this Saturday. Let’s all hope that Jesus Montero does something amazing that day.

Triple-A Scranton (3-1 loss to Louisville)
Greg Golson, LF-CF: 1 for 4, 1 R, 1 K
Curtis Granderson, CF: 0 for 3, 1 K – played seven innings in the field by design …. the plan is to have him take tomorrow off, play Thursday, then rejoin the big league team on Friday
Eduardo Nunez, SS: 2 for 4, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 K
Jesus Montero, C: 1 for 4 – threw out two of three baserunners
Jon Weber, DH & Reegie Corona, 2B: both 1 for 3
Chad Huffman, 1B-LF, Reid Gorecki, RF & Matt Cusick, 3B: all 0 for 3
Ivan Nova: 6 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, 7-5 GB/FB – 44 of his 81 pitches were strike (54.3%) … he left his last start after getting hit by a comebacker, so it’s good to see he wasn’t hurt too bad
Zack Segovia: 2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 2-2 GB/FB – 27 of 38 pitches were strikes (71.1%)

Double-A Trenton (4-0 win over Erie)
Justin Christian, LF, Dan Brewer, RF, Kevin Smith, 1B & Edwar Gonzalez, DH: all 1 for 4 – Brewer K’ed once … Smith scored a run & K’ed
Austin Krum, CF: 2 for 2, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 HBP
Brandon Laird, 3B: 0 for 4 – he’s still 14 for his last 37 (.378)
Jose Gil, C: 1 for 3, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 BB
Luis Nunez, SS: 2 for 3, 2 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 SB
Justin Snyder, 2B: 1 for 3, 1 K – hopefully some regular playing time with David Adams on the shelf will kick start his offense
Lance Pendleton: 7 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 4 K, 11-6 GB/FB – 16 H & 4 ER allowed in his last 23.1 IP
Josh Schmidt: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, 2-3 GB/FB

High-A Tampa (10-3 loss to Lakeland)
Jack Rye, RF, Jose Pirela, SS & Addison Maruszak, 1B: all 0 for 4 – Rye & Maruszak each K’ed once, Pirela twice
Bradley Suttle, 3B, Melky Mesa, CF & Trent Lockwood, DH: all 2 for 4 – Suttle stole a base, scored a run, K’ed & committed a fielding error … Mesa hit a solo jack, scored another run, K’ed & threw a runner at first … Lockwood drove in two & K’ed twice
Corban Joseph, 2B: 1 for 4, 3 K – 44 K in 45 games
Dan Kapala: 5 IP, 9 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 3 BB, 2 K, 1 HB, 9-2 GB/FB – hooray groundballs
Adam Olbrychowski: 2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 3 WP, 0-4 GB/FB
Trenton Lare: 1 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, 2-0 GB/FB

Low-A Charleston (1-0 loss to Greenville, walk-off style)
Jimmy Paredes, SS, J.R. Murphy, DH, Zoilo Almonte, RF, Kelvin Castro, 2B & Justin Milo, LF: combined 0 for 15, 6 K – Castro got hit by a pitch & stole a base … that’s a 1-2-3 & 8-9 hitters, so it was  five consecutive batters of nothing after the 1st inning
Luke Murton, 1B & Rob Lyerly, 3B: both 1 for 4 – Lyerly doubled, got caught stealing & committed a walk-off throwing error
Kyle Higashioka, C: 1 for 3, 1 2B, 1 BB, 1 K
Ray Kruml: 1 for 3, 2 K, 1 SB
Schaeffer Hall: 8 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, 15-6 GB/FB – shame he couldn’t get a win out of a performance like that
Ben Watkins: 0.2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 0 K, 1 WP, 1-1 GB/FB – the walk was intentional

I’d like to suggest we take down the Montero watch (bust) and replace it with the Jimmy Paredes watch. Who’s with me?

    • http://richardiurilli.wordpress.com/ Richard Iurilli

I suggest Justin Christian. We can have a picture of that time he fell down against the Angels.

  • http://richardiurilli.wordpress.com/ Richard Iurilli

    Montero’s line against Strasburg:

    3-4, 2 HR, 5 RBI.

    • Reggie C.

Embarrassing immature 20 year olds in AAA isn’t a tall task for Strasburg. I think Montero suffers his first 3K game in a long while. Heck, he’ll commit at least 1 error too.

      • Pete

again with the “montero is immature” stuff. What, exactly, is your evidence of that?

        • Brian in NH

all based off of one story about not hustling down to first. clearly this kid has the mentality of a 13 year old because he didn’t run out a ground ball

          • http://twitter.com/riddering Riddering

Yeah, it’s not like Jorge Posada has ever done that! Oh, wait.

Tampa has no answer for Furbush

They needed this guy: http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/s/shinera01.shtml (safe)

    • http://richardiurilli.wordpress.com/ Richard Iurilli

I am amused by the fact that you marked a Baseball-Reference link as safe.

      • Johan Iz My Brohan

Anytime you link to anyone who was in any way affiliated with the Mets, you better be careful.

    • http://conservationvalue.blogspot.com Jon G

Heck, if my last name was “Furbush”, I’d be really good at throwing things very hard too. Couldn’t have been an easy childhood…

  • DreDog

If Strasburg is pitching on the 4th, I will be at that game!

  • phughesisgod

Scranton beating Strasburg would be great and would piss ESPN off to the fullest extent. Should be even more incentive to beat him. Hopefully Jesus is the first to own him. You can do it, Jesus Montero. Show the world who the true #1 prospect in baseball is!!!

    • Brian in NH

well it looks like jesus is starting to come around on both sides of the ball now. doesn’t have that “oh so important” hit streak, but he’s been slowly building his average. And throwing out two baserunners is a little impressive unless opposing AAA managers feel like they can run on montero with David Ortiz like speed…

  • Angelo

Axisa, when is Man-Ban coming back? I miss that guy…

    • Angelo

Can anyone answer this question for me? I’m guessing I should just search for the answer myself, but I’d appreciate anyone making that easier for me.

      • Angelo

Nevermind I forgot that he had an appendectomy. No time table for his return.

  • ADam

“Curtis Granderson CF: 0 for 3, 1 K – played seven innings in the field by design …. the plan is to have him take tomorrow off, play Thursday, then rejoin the big league team on Friday”

Marking the end of Randy Winn’s tenure as a Yankee…

    • Bryan

      Mo I hope so.

Why would you weaken an already shallow OF pool just to keep an inexperienced-in-the-outfield Kevin Russo in New York?

      • http://www.mystiqueandaura.com Steve H

This. If Russo is an upgrade over Winn, as a #4/#5 OF impact will be very minor, and you lose depth. Plus, Russo’s development will be hurt sitting on the bench as opposed to getting regular AB’s and innings all over the place in AAA.

    Furbush…..haha. Poor guy.

    • http://www.mystiqueandaura.com Steve H

The mom jokes he had to deal with growing up must have been brutal.

  • Chris

What’s Shaeffer Hall’s ceiling? The guy is having a great year.

    • Angelo

He’s nothing special. He’s just an older player dominating younger competition is what I’ve heard.

Still, he’s having a nice year. Good for him.

  • CraftyLefty

The Official Scorer changed his ruling on the game-ending play in Charleston; no more error for Lyerly.

  • Sleepykarl

Dang tomorrow Charleston faces my old high school teammate. He was our version of AJ, threw back to back no hitters, but hit 4 and walked 4 in the first one and hit 2 walked 5 in the other.

  • http://conservationvalue.blogspot.com Jon G

OK, who gets the call from the farm to replace Aceves? We can’t just keep Boone Logan on the roster. Somebody like Sanchez or even Melancon (if he can finally stick) would be much more intriguing to me.

    What’s the move..?

  • Dave M

“Tampa has no answer for Furbush”

    That’s OK because I do. It’s called a razor.

  • Rob Has No Innings Limit

Why do I feel like it’s three weeks between each of Andrew Brackman’s starts?

  • Bobby’s World

How about Trenton 16-6 this month a half a game out of first.

As far as who gets the call up for Aceves it will be Nova.

    • Brian in NH

speaking of records…perhaps a nice little addition to the DotF would include the team’s record. yeah? maybe? maybe a record? yeah?
