Vazquez lands with the Marlins
ByVia MLBTR, Javy Vazquez has agreed to a one-year deal for some unknown amount of money with the Florida Marlins. It makes sense, NL team in a big park nice and close to his home in Puerto Rico. Javy still has to pass a physical before the deal becomes official and the Yankees get their extra draft pick, and I guess that’s not a given considering his utter lack of stuff at the end of the season. Either way, I wish him luck and hope the Yankees get to face him in the 2011 World Series.

I really hope he kills it.
Me too. I’ve always liked Javy. Hopefully he returns to past form.
+1 Javy’s seems like a good guy. Would love to see him pitch well again, especially against the Mets or Phills.
I don’t care, I just hope he pitches in a way that is advantageous to the Yankees (poorly against NYY, well against Tampa, the Sox, or other WC contenders)
This’d be fine too. Though I don’t think the Marlins play the Yankees or Sox next year. Might play the Rays in the way the Yankees play the Mets every year.
Yeah, I’m pretty sure the Marlins play the Rays every year.
Words well said! I’ve always been a Vazquez fan since we got him from the Expos. Things just didn’t work out well for him in the Bronx. Hang in there Javy!
If he can regain his 2009 form, Vazquez and Josh Johnson could be a pretty nasty 1-2 punch.
Good luck Javy.
Face him in the WS so that he gets so close to a championship he can smell it but we sweep the Marlins and knock Javy out in the first inning of whatever game he starts?
If he regains 2009 form, Vazquez would be reaching Pavano type, not coming back to the Yankees ever status, in my book.
But I wish him the absolute best with the Marlins.
He has already reached not-coming-back status with the Yankees.
Can we pray that pick outperforms Arodys in the future.
That’s not completely out of the question. This year’s draft will apparently be stacked with talent.
Last year when I said “I hope someone makes Javy sleep with the fishes” this is NOT what I meant. ;P
Hope he does well…professional guy. He just can’t cut it in NY.
Yay pick.
this
Hope he bounces back in 2011.
Good luck to Javy. He didn’t work out here but I always thought he was an OK guy.
marlins/vazquez in the WS? i like our odds
Depending on how the rest of the offseason plays out, there’s a decent chance the Marlins end up being the worst team in the NL East.
I am already a really big fan of pick 35-38.
rosenthal has the deal at $6-$7M
Bye.
Wait… the Marlins just traded Vazquez for the entire Mariners lineup…
(this is a joke, btw)
I hope not…the marlins are 2-0 in the world series.
SSS buddy. Granted, I wish all but the best for Javier Vazquez. One of the good strikeout pitchers I watched while growing up.
Honestly, once a player leaves pinstripes I could care less how he does with another team. Especially a team that beat us in a world series.
