Yomiuri sends Yankees $1.2M for Albaladejo
ByWell check this out. According to a report passed along by MLBTR, the Yomiuri Giants have sent the Yankees $1.2M for Jon Albaladejo. Albie finalized his deal with Yomiuri yesterday. I didn’t expect the Yanks to get anything out of the move other than a free 40-man roster spot, so this is a pleasant surprise. Granted, $1.2M isn’t much in the grand scheme of things, but it’s just about enough to cover the salaries of Jesus Montero, Frankie Cervelli, and Ramiro Pena next season.

so essentially its 3 free players?
You sure that’s not in Yen?
$1,200,000 = ¥14,278.92
¥100,847,963.29 = $1,200,000
Oops switch the signs in the first equivalent and those are right.
Can we add that to the new Jeter contract offer and say take it or leave it?
Or better yet…
Cashman: We’ll offer 3/50.
Close: Still not enough to get it done.
Cashman: …AND the rights to Jonathan Albaladejo.
We still have to pay Francisco Cervelli next year? Damn.
cervelli’s 2010 OBP > A-Rod’s, Granderson’s, and Swisher’s.
I’m not a big fan of cervelli, I’m just sayin’. That’s not too bad for a backup catcher.
It’s not bad for a backup catcher, but in 2010, Cervelli was not the back-up catcher. He got the majority of the playing time behind the plate. If Cervelli is the true “play once-a-week” back-up, I’m fine with him. But if he has to catch over 700 innings again, it’s a problem.
Agreed. That’s why I’m pretty happy to have Cervelli on board for 2011 – his playing time should be greatly reduced with Montero in the mix.
Every fist pump should be an incentive to lower the contract as close as possible to $0
Perhaps they’d be interested in a certain lefthander whose future is so bright he has to wear shades?
Sweet use that 1.2 mil too sign Tony Womack…argh i mean Derek Jeter
yeah, I said it in the last thread:
Tony Womack 2005: .249/.276/.280, 50 OPS+, -1.7 bWAR.
.261 wOBA, 57 wRC+, -2.3 fWAR.
2010 Derek Jeter >>>>>> Tony Womack. Probably not enough >s there. Not that I think they should give whatever, but this is insanity the other way.
Bobby Meachem is better than Jeter right now! Didn’t you get the memo?
