John Sickels of Minor League Ball recently sat down with Yankees president of baseball operations Mark Newman to chat about the team’s farm system. They of course hit on all the usual suspects – Jesus Montero, Manny Banuelos, Dellin Betances, Andrew Brackman, etc. – but also spoke about the next wave of prospects, so to speak. Newman discussed Slade Heathcott‘s strikeouts, Mason Williams‘ potential, Gary Sanchez‘s everything, plus a ton more. He also compares a certain infield prospect to a young Robbie Cano, but you’ll have to check it out to find out who.

not to be that guy or anything, but Robbie Cano at that stage in his career was not really thought of as special by many people. Still, I like Feliz

He’s pretty special now though. That’s the point.

      • Jerome S.

Yeah, but at Feliz’s age, Cano had ceiling but like, zero probability. I don’t think that’s what Newman is trying to say, but I would like to hear more specifics about him.

Would be great if Melk 2.0 can really put it all together

Would be great if guys like Nova, Liard, Mesa, Warren, Noesi, Phelps get off to great starts so their trade value goes up in time for trade season.

Hanging onto the B’s & the C’s (Montero, Sanchez & Romine) would be awesome while acquiring a top-of-the-rotation starter.

What would be great would be if Nova and Garcia got off to great starts, so that we didn’t need to seek out a top of the rotation starter by trade, and could wait for the B’s instead…

    Good read, excellent interview.
